"Going to see Isabel today?" Hunter asked she walked into Tim's house at around 7 in the morning.

"Woah, five minutes to 7, why bother going home at all?" Lexi asked Hunter as she looked up from her phone.

"Yes I am." Tim said, taking Lexi's phone out of her hand replacing it with a plate and placing the phone down on the bench.

"Is this some need for closure?" Lexi asked as she took a bite of food.

"No." Tim answered, although he sounded uncertain.

"Hmm, you sound uncertain." Hunter said with a smile.

Angela and Wesley are getting dressed to go to work. "We didn't really think this through." Wesley comments.

"I totally forgot what today was." Angela said putting a shirt on.

"I probably should've picked a less loaded day for our first sleepover." Wesley said.

"Um - I didn't get you a gift." Angela said choosing a pair of earrings to wear.

Wesley sits down on the bed to put his socks on. "Oh. Well, then it's gonna be super awkward when your presents get here. I guess I can still cancel the violinist," Wesley and Angela chuckled. "I'm kidding," Wesley stands up. "Forgot it was Valentine's Day, too. So, we'll just have to settle for this. Hmm," Wesley kisses Angela. "When can I see you again?" He asked buttoning his shirt up.

"Um - Saturday?" Angela asked putting earrings in.

"Oh, I have to drive up to Salinas Prison to meet a client. You could come with. Make a weekend out of it." Wesley said.

"Sounds romantic." Angela said.

"Could be." Wesley replied.

"Um, maybe next time." Angela said.

"You're not having second thoughts about dating the enemy, are you?" Wesley asked.

"Defense attorneys aren't the enemy. They're just a pain in the ass we have to deal with on the daily." Angela replied.

"Cause we hold you accountable." Wesley said.

"Because..." Angela pauses.

"Uh-huh?" Wesley asked.

"Nope. Not going there. That's my gift to you." Angela said.

"Well, wish me luck. I'm going in front of Judge Bollard this morning. He eats defense attorneys for breakfast." Wesley said.

"If anyone can charm him, it's you." Angela said.

Wesley chuckled. "Mmm." And he kissed Angela again before leaving.

"All right, we know what today is. The most dangerous day of our year." Grey said.

"Valentine's Day, sir? Really? Not Black Friday, not New Year's?" Nolan asked.

"That's right, Officer Nolan. Breakups and broken hearts. Jealousy and revenge. All make for a perfect storm of heightened emotion and dangerous situations. Hell, sometimes violence can find you minding your own business at dinner." Grey said.

Hunter, Angela, Talia and Grant all shared the same confused look, that last part sounded personal. "Sir, again, I can't tell you how sorry I am." Nolan said, Hunter raised an eyebrow as did Angela and the two shared a look.

"I'm not the one that needs the apologies, Officer Nolan." Grey said.

"Yes, sir. Please apologize to your wife for me. If you'd like me to make you another reservation -"

"I traded shifts for last night off. The night you ruined." Grey interrupts Nolan.

"Yes, sir.

"Uh, sir? I don't see my T. O." Lucy said, glancing at the TO table, where Grant had now sat himself.

"Officer Bradford's taken a personal day." Grey explained.

"You're kidding. Tim hasn't taken a personal day in his entire life." Angela said, sharing a look with Talia and Grant, Hunter had already known the reason and she wasn't going to tell anyone.

"Be that as it may, he's off today. So, Chen, you'll be assigned to the front desk. All right. That's it. Everybody be safe out there." Grey said.

Isabel is waiting on the steps as Tim comes walking up to her. She looks healthy. "Hi," Isabel chuckles. "I didn't think you'd come." She said.

"Yeah, I almost pulled a U-turn," Tim chuckles as well. "Twice."

"Glad you didn't." Isabel said.

"You look great." Tim comments.

"For someone who got shot in the head." Isabel said, as she touched the part of her head where she was shot and then tucked some hair behind her ear.

"No, I-I mean you look like you again. How are you feeling?" Tim asked.

"The beginning was really rough, but it would've been worse if I didn't already go through withdrawal in the hospital." Isabel said.

"I'm proud of you for seeing it through." Tim compliments.

"You didn't think I would." Isabel realised.

"No. But I-I hoped I was wrong." Tim said.

"Yeah, well, I thought about leaving every day." Isabel admits.

"What made you stay?" Tim asked.

"I found something I wanted more than a fix. For you to see me sober and for Hunter as well but she can't come." Isabel said.

"Something tells me Hunter's going to keep in contact you." Isabel smiled. "Well, guess my job here is done," Tim laughed. "See ya."

"Come on." Isabel said after some laughter.

"All right." Tim said, following Isabel into the rehab area.

Hunter, Grant, Talia and Angela walk up to the kit desk. "Shouldn't you be at the front desk, Boot?" Angela asked Lucy.

"Oh. Right. Sorry. Muscle memory," Lucy turns to the Quartermaster. "I don't need the gear today, so - sorry." She said, moving past Hunter.

"Ladies, Gentleman!" Hunter, Grant, Angela and Talia all given him a and look and Nolan hastily corrects himself. "Officers, I'm having a little get-together tonight. Love if you could join." He said.

"Nah." Hunter said shaking her head.

"I've got plans." Grant said, Hunter turns her head and looks at her partner with a raised eyebrow.

"Pass." Angela said.

"Officer Bishop?" Nolan asked turning to his TO.

"Don't even bother with her." Angela said.

"You have plans?" Nolan asked.

"Yes." Talia said.

Angela turned to her friend. "No." She said.

"Don't start." Talia said. She walks away.

Angela follows her. "Talia." She said.

"What comes after awkward?" Nolan asked Jackson.

"That." Jackson replied.

"Anyway, we need to sign our gear out." Hunter said moving to speak to the Quartermaster and signs out the equipment and hands it to Grant who then goes to set up their shop.

***

Hunter and Grant are holding their coffee's as they walk back to their shop. "So, who're you going out with?" Hunter asked.

"Her name's Daisy." Grant said.

"And if this becomes serious. I get to meet her." Hunter said.

"Deal." Grant said.

A man comes running down the sidewalk wearing nothing but a mask, chased by another man wielding a golf club. "You better run! You better run!" The man with the golf club yelled.

"Good God. Men should never run naked." Hunter said looking repulsed.

"I'll kill you!" Golf Club Man yelled.

"Looks like Valentine's Day is starting early." Grant comments as he and Hunter place their coffees on the hood of their shop.

"You're tackling the naked one!" Hunter yelled as she and Grant chase the two men.

***

Hunter and Grant are hauling the formerly naked man into a holding cell. "Indecent exposure?! Her husband was chasing me. What was I supposed to do?" The man asked.

Angela, who's also placing someone in a holding cell with Jackson comments. "Not sleep with his wife?" Hunter and Grant laugh before leaving Angela sees Wesley being brought in. "Hey, what happened?" She asked.

"I barely got into my opening statement with Judge Bollard. He kept interrupting me. Words were exchanged. He held me in contempt." Wesley said.

"I'll take him off your hands and book him." Angela said to Wesley's arresting officer.

"Fine by me." the officer said.

"Ooh, I recently had a dream like this." Angela said holding the cuffs.

"Oh, yeah?" Wesley asked.

"Uh-huh." Angela sits across from Wesley, grinning.

Jackson decides three's a crowd. "I'm, uh, I'm gonna go get a snack." He then walks out.

"All right, counselor. I'm gonna need you to empty your pockets." Angela said.

"Uh-huh." Wesley replied.

"And take off your tie and your shoes and socks. Do it nice and slow for me." Angela adds.

"You're enjoying this way too much." Wesley comments as he removes his tie.

"Uh-huh. So what exactly did you say to piss off the judge?" Angela asked.

"I was listing cases of extreme use of force by law enforcement trying to set precedent." Wesley said.

"Mm, let me guess, he ruled those cases were immaterial." Angela said.

"Over and over. It was relevant. By the time my client got to booking, his arm was broken." Wesley explained.

"Was he resisting arrest?" Angela asked.

"Even if he was, that doesn't give you permission to hurt him like that." Wesley said without thinking.

"Give me permission?" Angela asked, sounding offended.

"No, I didn't - I didn't mean it like that." Wesley said.

Angela stood up and knocked on the call, she called out to the other officer. "Hey! I changed my mind. You book this guy. I got work to do." Angela makes a beeline out of the Holding area.

"Angela, I didn't mean that." Wesley said but Angela ignored him and the other officer came in.

"Let's go. Okay." The officer said grabbing Wesley's possessions.

Isabel and Tim are walking in the rehab area, past other family members sitting on benches and drinking coffee. "Look, I don't want to talk about it, either, but it's part of my recovery." Isabel said as she and Tim walked on a bridge.

"Can't you just admit all your sins to your therapist?" Tim asked her.

"I already have. The whole point is to make amends with the people that I've hurt. And I hurt you most of all." Isabel explained.

"And telling me about all the horrible things you did is gonna make it better?" Tim asked.

"No. But only through honesty can you learn to trust me again." Isabel said, rubbing a hand up and down her arm.

Tim stops walking and stands across from Isabel. "Isabel, you you didn't do those things because you're a bad person. You did them because you're a drug addict. And addicts lie, they cheat, steal. They betray everyone around them. It's hard-wired into their DNA." He said as they keep walking away.

"So, are you saying you can never trust me again? Because I'll always be an addict." Isabel asked.

"No. I'm saying that you hurt me because of the drugs. And you won't hurt me now because you're clean." Tim said.

"You can't know that." Isabel argued, stopping them both walking any further.

"Sure I can. If you want to tell me how you left signed divorced papers on our dining table three years ago or if you want to tell me how you put our IRA into your arm after you left or how you robbed the neighbors when it ran out, go right ahead." Tim said.

"Things are always so black and white with you. It's -" Isabel was saying, in a frustrated tone.

"Comforting?" Tim supplied as an answer.

"Maddening," Isabel sighs. "Look, when we got married, I felt this huge weight to live up to your standards." She said.

"I never asked you to." Tim argued.

"You didn't have to. I didn't want to disappoint you. And all I ever did was fail." Isabel said.

"7-Adam-20, reported domestic at 1238 Mid-Wilshire and Western." Nell said via the radio.

"Thanks Nell." Grant said grabbing the radio.

Hunter pulls up outside a house, it's all quiet inside but Hunter and Grant grab their guns anyway and sneak around the building, the blinds are closed so they can't see in.

The two walk to the backdoor and Grant pounds on it. "LAPD, open up!" He yelled. There was no noise in the house and it seemed no was coming to open the door.

"Kick it down." Hunter said, moving backwards so she doesn't get injured when the door gets kicked open. Grant does what Hunter told him to do seeing as she's his boss.

Grant and Hunter walk carefully in the house looking around holding their guns up when they notice two people lying on the floor, seemingly dead. "Check her pulse, I'll check his." Hunter said.

Grant nodded and walked over to the woman, checking the pulse. "Dead." He said looking at Hunter.

"Same with him, it seems they killed each other." Hunter said looking around.

"I'll call in the Homicide Team." Grant said standing up.

"Yep and we'll still be here until they arrive." Hunter said.

"Which basically means we could be here all day." Grant comments.

Angela has stopped to talk to Wesley. "I spoke to the court clerk. The judge is still not ready to let you go. You must have really pissed him off." Angela said.

"Yeah, I seem to have that effect on people. Look, I'm sorry, okay? I get a little carried away sometimes, but I know you're a good cop." Wesley said.

"Most of us are." Angela said.

"Agreed." Wesley replied.

"You get out early enough, I'll let you take me out to dinner. I don't need anything fancy.' Angela said, softening slightly.

"Uh you know, I already made plans. I thought I couldn't see you, but, um, I could cancel." Wesley said.

"No, it's it's not a big deal. I gotta get back out there." Angela replied.

"Okay." Wesley said and Angela closed the door.

Angles goes back out to the Booking desk. She looks at a clipboard, stops as if to think, then goes to the lockers in rows behind the desk. She opens one, extracts a bag of personal effects, and pulls a phone out of the bag. It's Wesley's, and she sees on the calendar app that he has "Dinner with Melanie" entered for that evening. She puts it and the bag away.

Isabel and Tim are sitting on a bench in the garden. "You haven't said a word for an hour. You're allowed to be angry with me. You're supposed to be. I deserve it." Isabel said to him.

"I don't want to be angry. I just want Isabel back, the one from before. But I can't have that. You know, for the last three years, everyone's told me to just give up on you, everyone except Hunter. To let you go 'cause you were you were gone anyway. But I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it, I mean, what kind of person would I be if I left you when you were lost? Even if you left me. But you're not lost anymore. And I will always be a reminder of your lowest point of that shame you felt when you put that needle in your arm. This is the end and it always has been even before you left me." Tim said.

Isabel nods, reluctantly, and they both stand. They stand there for a minute in awkward silence. Isabel starts to weep. "Look, I should, uh - I should get on the road." Tim said.

"Okay." Isabel said.

"But, uh, you're doing great here." Tim said.

Isabel puts her arms around him and they hug. He turns to leave. "Hey, um -" Isabel's voice breaks.

"Yeah?" Tim asked prompting her to continue.

"Thank you and tell Hunter thanks as well." Isabel said.

"For what?" Tim asked.

"For never giving up on me." Isabel said.

"Yeah." Tim walks away, leaving Isabel standing there, crying.

It's dark by the time the homicide team arrives, luckily Grant and Hunter are able to knock off early seeing as the couple were dead by the time the two of them arrived. "Thank god we can leave, you can make your date with Daisy. Tell me how it goes." Hunter said.

"Relax, you might even meet her one day." Grant said.

"Uh-huh, I better." Hunter replied.

Grant and Hunter laughed as they walked to their respective locker rooms.

***

Tim is walking along the hall, morose, when he runs into Hunter. "Hey, how'd it go. What are you doing here, though?" She asked.

"It went well. I just, uh I needed to take my mind off some stuff as you know, so I figured a stack of paperwork would do the trick." Tim said.

"Well, I was gonna head home and watch trashy TV with Lexi, wanna join?" Hunter asked.

"No. No, I'm not feeling very social." Tim replied.

"Tim. Are you okay?" Hunter asked.

"Yeah," Tim turns away to continue walking as does Hunter when Tim turns back. "Hunt?" He asked.

"Yeah?" Hunter replied.

"Look, I have no right to ask this, but I really don't want to do paperwork right now. And the thought of going back to my almost empty house is unbearable, so if you'd be up for a totally platonic Valentine's Day drink - I could use a friend." Tim suggested.

"I can do that." Hunter said with a smile.

"Thanks." Tim replied and the two walked out together.

***

Angela, in street clothes, unlocks the cell where Wesley waits. "Judge says you can go." Angela said.

"About time." Wesley said.

"You should still be able to make your date with Melanie." Angela said venomously.

"How exactly did you know about that? Ah. Let me guess. You performed an illegal search of my phone." Wesley realised.

"I did it as a civilian, not in conjunction with a case, so it's not an illegal search." Angela said.

"Does that make it better?" Wesley asked.

"No." Angela said sounding dejected.

"Melanie is my stepmom. My dad died last year. She was gonna be alone, so I'm taking her out to dinner." Wesley said.

"Oh. I really screwed that up, didn't I?" Angela asked.

"Yep." Wesley walked away.

***

Hunter and Tim did go out drinking together, making sure that they Ubered to the bar rather than drove and now Hunter was sitting at home in bed when she gets a call from Wesley. Hunter answers it, placing it on speaker. "Hey, Wes. How're you doing?" She asked.

"Your sister, the one that you said would be good to set me up with assumed I was cheating on her when she searched my phone." Wesley said sounding rightfully pissed off.

"Wait a sec. You and Angela are dating? And then she screwed it all up by searching your phone?" Hunter asked.

"Yep, I had dinner with Melanie." Wesley explained.

"And Angela looked at your calendar and assumed the worst." Hunter said.

"Yeah." Wesley said.

"I'm gonna talk to her, but don't brush her off. She has a hard time trusting people ever since our dad left, I'm the same." Hunter said.

"You sound like my clients." Wesley said.

"Excuse me?" Hunter asked incredulously.

"Never mind, good night Hunter." Wesley said before hanging up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really enjoyed this episode, it was one of my favourites.

Like I've said before this is about Hunter and by proxy Tim, so Hunter will be guarding the money with the rookies and her partner.

Grant's girlfriend, Daisy will be a recurring character eventually. I'll give her a face claim when I decide to introduce her (I already know who it'll be).

Grant and Lucy live in the same building but on different floors so they've never actually crossed paths outside work.
