***

Hunter had found an apartment and was signing the paperwork, she'd told Tim when he returned home the previous night, he was fine with it knowing he'd see Hunter everyday but she knew he was a little upset at that and so was Hunter, not that either of them will admit it.

She would move into the apartment in a few days, when she went to get the keys and such, Lexi however would be staying with Tim, something the two adults were grateful off, seeing as Hunter's renting the apartment so Lexi's social worker wouldn't allow it.

***

She walked into the briefing room and sat down beside Tim, everyone was chatting amongst themselves, when Grey walks in the room and up to the podium. "Everyone have a seat," the ones standing towards the back found seats to sit in and Grey moved and stood at the side of the podium facing the three rookies. "Today is a special day for our rookies. 'Cause today we switch things up," Grey walked down the table Nolan, Jackson and Lucy were sitting at, Grey clasped his hands as he looked at them. "That's right. Everybody gets a new training officer," Nolan and Lucy share a look. "Nolan, you'll be riding with Officer Lopez," Nolan looks behind him at Angela who smiled slightly at him, Grey moved towards Jackson. "West, you'll be riding with Officer Bradford," Tim scowls for a moment before schooling his features as Jackson looks behind him. "And Chen, you'll be with Bishop," Lucy looks over her shoulder as Talia after resigning herself to the fact that she's stuck with the woman today.

"That's not all. Officer Lawrence," Grant looked up at the mention of his name. "You'll be riding with Chen and Bishop," Grant nods, wondering why he and Hunter were being dragged into the switch. "Detective Lopez, you'll be with Lopez and Nolan." Grey said to Hunter who nodded her head.

"But learning how to navigate a new T.O. is not your only challenge. By the end of next shift, I expect every rookie to uncover something personal about their training officer," both Talia and Tim shifted in their seats, they liked playing things close to the vest. "Something they don't want you to know," Nolan's eyebrows raised for a moment upon hearing that. "This will be a test of your investigative instincts and your fortitude," Grey moves back up to the podium and stands behind it. "Best insight will win a day off. Worst one handles Saturday night cavity searches," Nolan, Lucy and Jackson all looked disgusted at that while the other officer talked amongst themselves about it. "That's it. Good luck." Everyone stood up.

***

The rookies go and collect their gear while their TOs are watching them with Hunter and Grant. "Is the kid really a rock star?" Tim asked Angela.

"Jackson? Yeah. He's better prepared than any rookie I've ever had." Angela said.

"Screw prep. How is he out on the street?" Tim asked.

Hunter opened her mouth to answer, which Angela noticed after a moments hesitation speaks before her sister could. "So far, so good," Hunter frowned at Angela protecting Jackson but says nothing.

Hunter turns to Talia. "What about Nolan?" She asked.

"He's a talker." Talia replied. Hunter sighed at that, she and Grant held conversations in their shop but the way Talia said it, showed that he had a habit of talking when it wasn't wanted nor needed.

***

Nolan moves toward the driver's side of the patrol car but sees that Angela is already there, Hunter's already in the seat at the front behind the center console where the radio was, that way she wasn't seated in the back if they arrested someone. "Oh. Uh, usually Officer Bishop has me drive. She feels it's a better way to evaluate how I -" Nolan trailed off seeing the look on Angela's face.

"This is my shop. I drive." Angela states.

"Copy that. So..." Nolan once again trailed off as he moved to the passenger side.

"Hunter and I were raised by a single mom. Everything she and I owned was hand-me-downs from our four brothers, so I care about what I wear and how I look as does Hunter but this isn't about her. Now you don't have to spend the next two days hunting for insight." Angela said, knowing that this wasn't about Hunter and gaining insight into her but Angela felt like she had to inform him.

"I don't think that's how Sergeant Grey wanted me to gain insight." Nolan comments.

"Are you a teacher's pet, Boot? 'Cause I thought I was gonna get a change of pace with you." Angela said.

"Uh, no, ma'am. Just looking to get the most out of the experience." Nolan said.

"Good. Because if I win you Grey's day off, you're gonna fix my garage door. I heard you were a contractor." Angela states.

"Yeah, no, happy to help. Probably gonna need a little more than "She likes nice clothes" to win this thing," the two get in the car. "So, where are we off to?" Nolan asked.

"Court. Hunter and I have to testify in a trial. Should take a few hours," Nolan opens his mouth and Angela gives him a look. "Quiet time, starting now." She said.

***

Tim and Jackson are riding together, driving down a street. "This is gonna be a great day. I was glad when Sergeant Grey paired us up." Tim said, trying to distract Jackson.

"You were?" Jackson asked, looking over at Tim in surprise.

"Yeah. Being a police officer is in your DNA. It's gonna be my privilege to -" He slams on the brakes. "I've been shot! Where are you, Boot? I'm bleeding to death. You have to call for help. Where are you?" Tim asked loudly.

"North Mansfield, cross street is Beverly Boulevard. There's a medical center on Third Street, but I would see that you were taken to Cedars," Tim looks over at him. "Better trauma center. And the best coffee in L.A. is two blocks down," Tim starts driving again. "So, all the stuff about -" Jackson trailed off.

"The only thing that's gonna make me happy is breaking your spirit." Tim said, Jackson swallowed.

***

Lucy was feeling uncomfortable, riding with two people that knew about her relationship with Nolan. "Look, uh -" Lucy was going to say when Talia interrupted her, Lucy liked Nolan, but was she willing to risk everything for him?

"Save it." Talia said.

"But -" Lucy tried to say again.

"Bishop said save it. You want to risk your reputation to get it on with Nolan, that's your call. She only care if it impacts your performance." Grant speaks, interrupting the argument before it started.

"It won't." Lucy reassured them both.

"Good, then there's nothing left to talk about. And don't even think of looking for insight into me." Talia said.

They continue in silence for a minute, then Lucy takes a look at the license plate on the car in front of them. "Registration is expired on that tag." Lucy said.

"Call it in." Grant said.

Lucy picks up the radio. "7-Adam-15, show us at a vehicle stop at Loma Linda and Fountain. Blue Outback, 2-Sam-Adam-Mary-5-6-4."

The Outback has pulled to the curb. "7-Adam-15, that vehicle is suspected in a hit and run." Dispatch said. The occupants of the Outback leap out of the car and start running in different directions.

"7-Adam-15, four occupants just bailed, heading north and south." Lucy said into the radio before she gets out of the patrol car to chase them.

"Get the driver, Boot! I'll cut them off." Talia said.

Two of the fugitives duck down a side walkway. Lucy is running and looking but doesn't see any of them until she spots a pair of sneakers on someone hiding behind a car. "LAPD, get up. Hands behind your head. Turn around. Don't move." She cuffs him as Talia pulls up in the patrol car.

Grant gets out. "What are you doing? Bishop told you to get the driver." He said.

"This guy was right here. Am I in trouble for catching a criminal?" Lucy asked, sounding confused.

"What was his crime?" Grant then turned his attention to the man. "Who were your friends in the car?" He asked.

"I never met them before. They just saw me walking and gave me a ride." The man said.

"Then why did you run?" Lucy asked, sounding annoyed that he ran for what appeared to be no reason.

"'Cause everyone else did." The man shrugged.

"Did you find anything on him when you searched him?" Lucy shakes her head. "Driver's the only one we can legally tie to the vehicle. You should know that. Page 117 of your rook book. Cut him loose." Grant said and Lucy uncuffed the man.

***

Angela, Hunter and Nolan walk through the foyer of the courthouse. Nolan is looking around. "Never been to the courthouse before. This is exciting." He comments.

"That feeling will pass. We caught this break and enter 10 months ago. Since then, it's been two preliminary hearings, two motions to suppress. It's endless." said Hunter gesturing between herself and Angela.

"Hey, Lopezes. Looking good." Officer Dikta yelled to the two sisters.

"Thanks. How's your wife?" Hunter asked causing the man to go silent, she turns to Nolan. "This is the only place in L.A. where you can find all the law enforcement agencies together. LAPD, Highway Patrol, Sheriff's Department, everyone acting like the top of the food chain," the three officers stop walking and Hunter nods her head to someone. "See that guy with the comb-over?" Nolan looks at the man. "They call him Hot Stuff. Know why?" Hunter asked him.

"Nothing comes to mind." Nolan said.

"'Cause he somehow managed to get sriracha in his eyes while he was driving. Ended up in Echo Park Lake," Angela said, the three of them chuckled, Angela looked around and saw another officer. "Oh, and that's Officer Davis. She collects American Girl dolls and uses them to recreate scenes from 50 Shades," the grin on Nolan's face faded and he looked horrified.

"She's single, if you're wondering." Hunter said teasingly.

"Thank you. How do you two know all this?" Nolan asked.

"Ah, well, if you want to keep secrets, don't work in law enforcement." Angela said, looking up at Nolan.

"Unless you're a good liar." Hunter added.

***

Tim and Jackson pull up and park under an overpass where a grey sedan is waiting. "I had us attached to a raid. Figured you didn't get a round off the day I got shot, so you'd be itching to throw some bullets around," Jackson shifts slightly. A man in plain clothes gets out of the other car and approaches Tim. Three other men follow him. "Detective Singh." The two men shake hands.

"Bradford. When are you gonna make the jump out of patrol, huh?" Singh asked.

"Never. I work for a living." Tim said.

"Yeah," Singh laughed and then noticed Jackson. "This West's kid?" He asked.

"Yes, sir. Jackson West." Jackson said.

"You ready to mix it up, son?" Singh asked.

"Yes, sir." Jackson said.

"Good. We got a known gunrunner two blocks up. We can pin at least three murder weapons on him. We're gonna put eyeballs on his place, make sure he's home, then we go in hot." Singh said.

"You're rolling with the big boys now, Boot." Tim said as they all went to Singh's car.

***

Nolan sits on a bench in a deserted courthouse hallway, studying his rook book. Two officers pass by with a prisoner in an orange jumpsuit cuffed between them. Nolan sneezes. "Bless you." The prisoner said.

"Thank you." Said Nolan.

The officers and prisoner walk around the corner. Nolan hears the sound of grunting and bodies falling, gets up to investigate, pauses, goes back to the bench to get his manual. Just then the prisoner runs back around the corner on his own and knocks Nolan down. The manual goes flying.' Nolan starts after the prisoner, then runs back to pick up the manual, whose pages have come loose and spread out on the floor. "Shoot. Officer needs help! Prisoner on the loose!" Nolan yelled. The prisoner finds a stairwell and disappears down it. Nolan chases him but is hampered by his efforts to catch pages falling out of the manual. "Stop! Police!" He yelled.

***

Nolan, Hunter and Angela stand outside talking. "Sorry. I tried to catch the guy." Nolan said.

"Well, now we got to find him. Fugitive's name is Nestor Garcia. He's a mid-level drug dealer looking at 10 to 20 if he's convicted. Residence is in Boyle Heights. I volunteered us to check it out." Hunter said.

Angela eyed the disheveled manual. "Leave that in the locker next time." She advised.

"Officer Bishop suggested -" Nolan started to say, pausing when he saw Angela and Hunter's glares, which made them look more like sisters than they normally did.

"Do I look like Officer Bishop?" Angela asked.

"No." Nolan replied.

"Grey switched it up so you guys get a different perspective. Angela and mine's is you do your homework at home." Hunter said.

***

Singh is sitting in his car with Tim, Jackson, and one other man, watching the suspect's house. "Heard you caught a bullet." Singh comments.

"Went right through me. Barely worth mentioning to you," Tim speaks to Jackson. "Singh's been stabbed six times." He said.

"Nine. It was a busy summer." Singh said looking out the window.

"I'll say," Jackson goes silent for a moment. "So, have you known Officer Bradford long?" He asked.

"Don't answer that. Watch Commander's got him looking for insight into his T.O." Tim said, glaring at Jackson.

"Copy that," Singh looks behind him at Tim. "But my silence won't be cheap." He said.

"You're not getting my Dodger tickets. ..." Tim said, off Singh's look. "One game. That's it." Tim agreed.

A pizza delivery person comes to the door of the house and someone answers the door. "The gunrunners are at home. We're in business. Let's go gear up." Singh said.

***

Angela, Hunter and Tim walk up to a house in a nice-looking residential neighborhood. "Do you, uh, date cops?" Angela looked at him confused. "I'm not asking - I mean, just trying to get some insight. You know, that, um, CHP officer at the courthouse was hitting on you." Nolan tried to revise what he asked.

"It's not worth it. That guy can run around racking up trophies, but I date one cop, and I get a rep, so I fish in other pools." Angela said.

Hunter knocks on the door. "Nestor Garcia, police. Come out." She yelled.

"What if we were to talk to the local merchants?" Nolan suggested, he nods toward the kid manning a lemonade stand next door.

"All right." Angela and Hunter agreed. They go over to the stand.

"Hey, how much?" Nolan asked.

"A dollar." The kid said.

"A little steep, but all right. Thank you," Nolan takes a sip and his face contorts. "Mm. Didn't expect it to be so, uh, thick." He said, trying to not offend the kid.

"You know the family next door?" Hunter asked.

"Sure. The dad's a drug dealer," Hunter, Nolan and Angela all look at the kid confused. "My mom gets really talky when she has Chardonnay." The kid shrugged.

"Have you seen him around today?" Nolan asked.

"No, he's probably at the thing." The kid said.

"What thing?" Angela asked.

"Buy some more lemonade and I'll tell you." The kid bargained.

"Are you trying to extort a law enforcement officer?" Hunter asked.

"No, it's basic supply and demand. I have something you need, so I can set the price." The kid replied.

"At least he's getting a quality education." Nolan said.

"Too bad he won't get the same one in juvenile detention. You got a permit for this lemonade stand?" Hunter asked the kid.

"He's at his daughter's birthday." The kid answered.

"Garcia it's a Spanish last name meaning his family's from Mexico, it's his daughter's quinceañera." Hunter realised. "Seeing as it's a giant celebration, he's probably in the town hall." Hunter added.

***

Nestor Garcia escorts a young lady, his daughter, Sofia in formal dress to the dance floor, amid applause and smiles from a crowd. "There he is. What's the party for again?" Nolan asked.

"His daughter's quinceañera," Nolan looks at Hunter, confused. "15th birthday." Hunter said, basically translating what it meant.

"Oh, sorry. We don't get a lot of those in rural Pennsylvania. It's fun," there's more applause for Sofia as she and her dad start to dance. "Aww. He escaped custody to share a dance with his daughter. That's kind of sweet." Nolan said.

"It's selfish, 'cause now her memory of this is gonna be us arresting him in front of her entire family. He did it for himself, not her." Angela said.

"That never occurred to me." Nolan said.

"That's because you had a dad who was around." Angela states.

Hunter notices Nolan shift slightly and thought for a moment that maybe Nolan didn't have a dad who was around. "Let me guess. Your dad was M.I.A., show up when it's convenient, bring a toy, act like a savior." Nolan drawled.

"It was a stuffed animal. Last ones he brought, Hunter and I fed to them both to garbage disposal. And then he got cancer." Angela said.

"So do we let them finish the dance?" Nolan asked.

"Of course. I'm we're not monsters." Hunter said.

Garcia catches sight of the three cops. Nolan nods at him to indicate that he can finish the dance and Garcia looks grateful.

***

Grant, Talia and Lucy are walking and talking. "You told me to go after the driver, and I deviated from your instruction. It won't happen again." Lucy said to Talia.

"Mm-hmm." Talia hummed, Grant didn't say anything, he just watched as it unfolded.

"You don't believe me?" Lucy asked.

"I believe you do what you want and you rationalize it after." Talia replied.

"I don't take your advice, and then you you punish me? How is that right?" Lucy asked.

Grant pinched the bridge of his nose, knowing it was all going to go to shit. "Boot, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what's happening here." Talia said.

"So enlighten me." Lucy ground out.

"Learning how to be a cop is the hardest thing you'll ever do. And instead of focusing everything you have on the task at hand, you split your focus to be with Nolan. And you risk losing it completely if you're ever found out. You think you're the first rookie to date a cop? This city is littered with the failed potential of rookies like you." Talia explained, Grant shifted, having already warned Lucy that dating as a fellow rookie and cop while being a rookie was a bad thing.

"With all due respect, ma'am, there are no other rookies like me." Lucy said, Grant sighed at that.

"Don't fool yourself, Boot. They're all like you. And the only ones who make it through are the ones who take their job so serious that they put everything else aside." Talia said.

***

Tim and Jackson are moving stealthily on the sidewalk surrounding the gunrunner's house. "On your toes, Boot. These guys are armed for war." They come upon a barred fence with a large dog that barks and growls at them. "Early-warning system." Jackson pulls something from his pocket and tosses it over the fence. The dog goes after it. "You just happened to have that on you?" Tim asked looking at Jackson, confused as to why he had dog biscuits.

"Of course not. My dad taught me to carry dog biscuits. Thought he was pulling my leg, but that just worked like gangbusters." Jackson said.

They move around outside a wooden fence and hear the confrontation going on inside the house. "Police!" Singh yelled.

There's gunfire in the yard behind the fence and the bullets are penetrating the wood. Jackson cringes down and covers his head; Tim moves over to the barred fence to return fire. "Let's go, Boot! What's wrong? Are you hit?" Tim asked looking at Jackson.

Jackson shakes his head.

"Clear!" Singh yelled from inside the house.

"Through the yard!" Another man yelled.

"Clear here!" Another man also yelled.

Singh comes out of the house and walks over to Tim. "Two down inside. You guys okay?" Singh asked.

"Yeah." Tim turns to glare at Jackson, who's out of Singh's line of sight.

***

"So, uh, did you two have a quinceañera?" Nolan asked the Lopez sisters.

"Yep, I had my in '98, she had hers in 2004 and let me tell you, we looked good at our respective ones." Hunter said, holding her food as the three of them stand outside the food trucks.

"Who did you two dance with? 'Cause you said single mom." Nolan remembered.

"Our abuelo," Nolan looked confused. "Her dad." Hunter translated.

"Oh." Nolan said.

"He made us laugh the whole time, I was like six at the time of Hunter's quinceañera but I still remember Mom's face, boy was she pissed and she was pissed with him at mine because he did the same thing there too." Angela explained.

"I wish I was there, but I was in Fallujah." Hunter remembered, she remembered wishing she was at her sister's birthday rather than fighting a war but she also knew that she'd never change the fact that she joined the Army.

Tim drives up in his patrol car and screeches to a halt. He jumps out and heads for Hunter and Angela. "Lopezes!" He yelled.

Hunter turned to Nolan. "Give us a minute."

"Why? What's going on?" Nolan asked.

"Just do it." Angela snapped.

Nolan walks away as Tim walks up to Hunter and Angela. "The hell were you thinking letting me hit the streets with a broken rookie?" Tim asked looking between the two women.

Hunter sat down and leaned on the table with her arms and looked over at Tim. "Woah, don't drag me into this. I'd've ratted him out if Angela hadn't stopped me."

"He's not broken." Angela interjects.

"He froze when the bullets started flying. You gonna tell me the same thing didn't happen with you the day I got shot? While Hunter was helping you?!" Tim questioned.

"I thought I helped him get past it." Angela admits.

"Well, you didn't. Now he's my problem. Not for long." Tim spat out.

"I lied to Andersen to cover for the kid. If you out him, my career is over, too and Hunter's even though she didn't want to cover for him. So if you out him, it'll be my fault that Hunter's career's over." Angela said.

Hunter looked up at the mention of her name silently listening to the argument while eating her lunch.

"Well, that was stupid," Tim goes silent for a moment. "All right, look. I know just the neighborhood to take him to. He'll self-destruct by the end of the day, I'll catch him on my body cam, he'll be done. No one will know about you." Tim said as Angela sat down beside Hunter.

"His father's a commander at Internal Affairs." Hunter reminds him softly.

"I don't care. Boot's a menace." Tim replied.

"This is exactly why I didn't tell you. You think Jackson's father won't blame you for the kid's failure? This is political whether you like it or not." Angela argued.

"What do we do? Leave him on the streets? Hope he doesn't get you killed?" Tim questioned.

"No. I don't know. He could be a good cop, h-he's smart. He has instincts you can't teach. There's potential." said Angela, looking over at where Tim's shop was parked.

"Screw potential." Tim spat, he started walking off.

That's when Hunter spoke up. "Tim. What are you gonna do?" She asked.

"I don't know." Tim shrugged.

Nolan is standing beside Tim's shop, talking to Jackson, who is sitting in the car. "Listen, you're gonna make it through this, okay? Lucy and I are gonna help you." He tried to reassure his friend.

"How?" Jackson asked.

Tim walked up to the two of them. "Walk away, Boot." Tim said to Nolan.

"Officer Bradford -" Nolan tried to say.

"I gave you an order." Tim interrupted.

"Listen to me. He's worth fighting for. You and the Lopezes know it." Nolan said, Tim just turns to get in the car.

***

"7-Adam-15, female juvenile reports being held against her will. Owens and Arlington. Code 3."  Dispatch said.

The patrol car pulls up in a parking lot where there's a film crew and a trailer. "What's going on?" One of the film men asked.

"We got a call. Young girl said she was being held captive at this location." Grant said walking over with Talia and Lucy.

"Are you kidding me? Sarah's holding us hostage. We're bleeding money every minute she won't come out of the trailer." The man replied.

"We need to see her." Talia said. They follow the man over to the trailer, where Talia raps on the door. "LAPD. Open up."

The door opens and a young girl stands in the doorway. "Am I in trouble?" Sarah, the girl asked.

"Are you being held hostage?" Talia asked.

"No." Sarah replied.

"Then yeah, filing a false police report is kind of a crime." said Talia.

"I'm sorry. I-I didn't know what else to do. I don't want to be here anymore. I hate it." Sarah said.

"Is someone making you?" Lucy and Grant asked at the same time.

"My foster mom. She's an agent. She's been putting me up for things ever since I was placed with her. I just want to be back with my real mom, but Alice won't even let me talk to her." Sarah said.

Alice, the foster mom, comes running up. "Sarah, are you okay? W-What happened?" She asked looking frantic.

"Let's talk over here." Talia said.

"Wh- I- I don't understand. - Is something wrong?" Alice asked sounding confused.

"She says you're making her do this." Grant said.

"That's ridiculous. She agreed to try it. I-I'm just trying to teach her a sense of responsibility and a work ethic. I do that for all the kids I foster." Alice explained.

"Sarah also said you're keeping her from her birth mother." Lucy jumped in.

"Her birth mother is an alcoholic who just got out of prison. She's in no position to care for that girl." Alice said.

"All right, give your information to Officer Chen. We'll follow up with the state." Talia said.

"Right." Alice agreed.

Talia and Grant walk over to Sarah who was still in the trailer. "Here's my card. If you have a real problem, give me a call." Talia said handing it to Sarah while Lucy looks over at the three of them.

"Thanks." Sarah said.

***

Nolan, Hunter and Angela are getting out of their patrol car. "Guess you were right about cops and secrets." Nolan comments.

"Yeah, I should've taken my own advice." Angela said.

"For what it's worth, you covering for Jackson was a stand-up thing to do." Nolan said.

"It was selfish, not noble. I did it to protect myself." Angela states.

***

Tim is changing clothes in the locker room when Jackson comes in. "Sir. I am more committed to this job than anyone you've ever trained. I'm gonna get past this." Jackson said.

"We ain't playing dress-up here, Boot." Tim replied.

"So, what's the plan? Out me to Andersen? Drop me off in gang territory? What, public execution? All that I'm asking is that you try and fix me instead of just throwing me away." Jackson said.

"I don't do lost causes. Now, if I were you, I'd prepare for tomorrow to be your last day on the job." Tim replied before walking away, leaving Jackson by himself.

***

The next day, Tim and Jackson walk down the hallway of an apartment building. "So, are you gonna tell me my fate, or are you just gonna torture me all morning?" Jackson asked.

"You really in a hurry to find out?" Tim asked.

"No." Jackson said.

Tim knocks on the door of #17. "Who is it?" The man inside asked.

"Officer Bradford." Tim said.

"I.D." The man said.

Tim looks at the peephole. "You're looking at us through the peephole, Wallace. Just open up." Tim ordered.

Wallace opens the door. "Who's he?" He asked at the same time as Jackson asked. "Who are you?"

"My new Boot. Have you been out of the apartment recently?" Tim asked Wallace.

"The downstairs buzzer's broken. Can you fix it for me?" Wallace asked.

"Fix it yourself," Tim turned to Jackson. "I'll be in the car." Tim said.

"What - What am I supposed to do?" Jackson asked.

"Talk to Wallace." Tim walks away. About twenty minutes later, Jackson returned from talking to Wallace, neither men say anything, Tim just starts the engine and drives off.

***

Talia, Grant and Lucy are back at the precinct putting their bodycams on. "Okay, look, I told Nolan." Lucy said.

"Told him what?" Grant and Talia asked.

"Not what you two want me to tell him, but that you both know." Lucy replied.

Grey walks over to the three of them. "Bishop. Got a little girl looking for you. Says she's following up on the 911 call you took yesterday." Grey leads them into the bullpen area.

"Is that the foster kid?" Lucy asked.

"Sarah, yeah," Talia turns to Lucy and Grant. "Wait in the shop," Talia walks up to Sarah. "Come on." The two of them walk somewhere private.

***

Sarah is talking to Talia in an interrogation room. "I talked to my mom last night. She said she wanted me back. But Alice is blocking her." Sarah said.

"It's not her call, Sarah. I spoke with Social Services this morning. Your mom just did six months for a hit and run." Said Talia.

"She's clean now. She told me." Sarah said.

"I hope so. But she's gonna have to sustain it a while before they put you back with her." Talia said, sitting on the table while talking to Sarah.

Sarah scoffed. "You're just like the rest of them." She stands up.

Talia raised an eyebrow. "Sit down. I grew up in the system - four foster families by the time I was your age, each of them worse than where you are now. At first, I was angry all the time. It was unfair, you know? Every other kid got to have a happy childhood. But you got to get past that. You've been placed in a good home with a foster mom who's trying to help you be independent, teach you a skill so you don't have to rely on anyone. The sooner you stop feeling sorry for yourself and do what has to be done, the better off you'll be." Said Talia.

Lucy and Grant are listening in the observation room, they shared a look, only the latter knowing that Talia was in foster care as it was something very few people knew.

***

"Lopezes, Nolan." Zoe said walking to the three officers as they head up the stairs to her office meaning they stop in the middle to talk.

"You wanted to see us?" Hunter asked.

"The quinceañera felon you picked up yesterday, Nestor Garcia? He's requested to speak with you three." Zoe said.

"Why?" Angela asked.

"A.D.A. thinks it's connected to a plea deal he's trying to cut," Hunter, Nolan and Angela all shared a look. "She's bringing him in from the courthouse now. You let me know how it goes." Zoe said.

"Yes, ma'am." Nolan replied.

***

Hunter, Nolan and Angela sit in an interrogation room with Garcia and his lawyer. "I want to thank you for yesterday. That dance meant a lot to my daughter, and the fact that you let me finish, that means a lot to me," Nolan, Angela and Hunter all look at each other for a moment. "So, to reward you, I have a gift. A drug deal is going down this afternoon large shipment," Hunter, Angela and Nolan look interested. "The kind of bust that'll get you noticed." Nolan glances over at Hunter and Angela.

"And you're just giving us this because we were nice to you?" Angela asked.

"No, I'm doing this to reduce my sentence," Hunter hummed in acknowledgement. "But I'm giving it to you because you were nice to me. So, you'd better hurry up, call the D.A. to make a deal, because the exchange is going down in two hours." said Garcia.

***

Nolan, Hunter, Tim, Angela, Grant, Grey, Talia, Jackson are all in the breifing room, Talia was standing beside Grant, Tim was sitting on one of the tables with his leg on one of the chairs, Hunter was sitting beside him, Jackson standing beside Tim and Nolan standing beside where Angela was sitting, Lucy was standing beside her.

On a table was a carpark and there were some cars, Grey was walking around the room as he told them what was going on. "Okay, according to Garcia, the exchange is going down at Stoneson Home Supply on Sunset." Grey said.

Lucy took her notebook out and moved to stand near Grant as she looked at the table. "They're gonna make a drug deal in the parking lot in broad daylight?" She asked in disbelief.

"Box stores are the perfect cover. Busy parking lots, multiple exits. They hide in the chaos." Tim and Hunter said at the same time.

"At 1500 hours, a car loaded with 80 kilos of cocaine driven up from Mexico will land in the parking lot. The driver will walk away. A runner for the buyer will climb behind the wheel and drive off. The whole thing takes 90 seconds." Grey said as he continued to pace around the table.

"According to Nestor, the shipment is in a red Civic with Nevada plates." Angela said from where she was sitting.

"Now, the parking lot only has two access points, here and here," Grey points onto the table. "Officer Bradford, you'll be parked out of sight over there," he moves and points somewhere else. "Officer Bishop, you'll have all eyes on this exit here." Grey said.

"And what about us, Sergeant? What's our position?" Hunter asked.

"We need to know exactly when the car lands, so we need eyes on the whole parking lot. You will be with me here." Grey said pointing somewhere else on the table map thing.

Hunter strolls up to Grey, whom she's just "pulled over" on the street. "License and registration?" She asked having fun.

"This ain't dinner theater. Relax," Hunter laughed slightly at that. Grey looks through the scope. "I think I see our welcoming party," Grey grabbed the radio. "A RAM, three Hispanics inside, heads on a swivel. No sign of our red Civic yet. Stand by." Grey said.

***

"Copy that." Tim said, responding to what Grey had said.

"Thanks. For, uh, not outing me to Grey. I had a good talk with Wallace." Jackson said.

Tim looked over to Jackson. "Great. Can you promise me you're cured?" He asked.

"Of course not." Jackson said.

"Then if things go sideways on this bust, you do not get out of this shop. Do you understand?" Tim asked him.

"Sir -" Jackson tried to say.

"Look, the only answer here is "yes." I cannot rely on you to have my back, and I will not have your death on my head. Got it?" Tim interrupted.

"Yes, sir." Jackson said.

"I really like him. I've never been serious about anyone before, and I'm playing it casual, but the thought of ending it, I don't want to. But then I heard you tell Sarah to stop feeling sorry for herself, and to just, you know, make peace with her situation, and I realized I can't just run from a hard decision," Grant winced at Lucy admitting she eavesdropped, at least she didn't dump Grant into it. "I have to face it head-on. I'm sorry." Lucy said, Grant looked at Talia wondering what her response would be.

"How exactly did you hear that?" Talia asked.

"I might have wandered into observation while you were talking to her. Sorry." Lucy said, looking over at Talia.

Grant muttered. "We purposely walked in." Luckily for him Talia didn't hear, neither did Lucy.

"Look, I appreciate you being honest with me about Nolan. More importantly, I think you're finally being honest with yourself. That's all Grant I were looking to provoke - an informed choice." Talia said.

"Here we go. Red Civic, Nevada plates, entering parking lot." Grey said into the radio.  A man parks the Civic and gets out, walking away. The men in the truck get out and one of them gets into the Civic and starts the engine.

"Go, go, go!" Angela yelled, Hunter's already joined Nolan and Angela.

Hunter uses the patrol car to block the Civic from escaping, with Talia on the other side, but the driver of the Civic plows through the landscaping and takes off down the street. "7-Adam-15, going after the red Civic." Talia said over the radio.

Hunter, Angela and Nolan get out of their shop as the men in the truck get out and start shooting. A woman walking through the parking lot is shot in the leg and goes down. "Aah!" The woman scremed.

"Ma'am! Stay down!" Nolan yelled.

***

"Stay in the car." Tim said to Jackson, Tim gets out and approaches the shootout on foot.

***

"I'm opened up!" Hunter and Nolan yelled.

"Let's go! I got you!" Angela continues to advance on the shooters as Nolan and Hunter reach the victim.

"Stay down!" Hunter yelled to the woman.

***

Tim is spotted by one of the shooters, who fires on him as he takes cover behind a car.

***

The woman groaned, Hunter managed to get to her. "I got you." Hunter, Nolan and Angela get the victim into cover behind a truck and continue firing on their adversaries.

"I can make it. I can get in there." Hunter said.

"For reload!" Angela yelled.

"I got you two! - Ready?" Hunter asked.

"Yeah. Got you." Nolan and Angela said at the same time.

Hunter crawls under a couple of vehicles, gets hold of a shooter's ankles and pulls hard. The shooter goes down, hitting his head on the way.

***

Tim is pinned down by another shooter when a patrol car comes up and literally runs the man down. He lies unconscious on the pavement as Jackson steps out of the car. "One suspect in custody." He said into the radio. Tim looks back at Jackson, looking slightly confused and impressed at the same time.

***

"7-Adam-15, in pursuit of red Civic heading east on Chapman." Talia said into the radio.

Lucy manages to PIT the Civic, which crashes into a divider. The trunk pops open and powder flies out. "That is a lot of coke." Grant comments. Grey meanwhile had picked up the guy who dropped off the civic.

It was dark outside the bullpen and officers were scattered around, waiting for the night shift officers to take over, the TOs and Hunter and Grant were sat at a round table and Grey was standing in front of the rookies who were all standing with their hands clasped behind their backs.

"The moment of truth is upon us. End of shift. Time to come clean. What did you learn about your T.O.s? Officer West." Grey said stopping in front of Jackson.

Jackson looked over at Tim who was looking at Hunter and the two were talking about something. "Sorry, sir. I was unable to gain any insight into Officer Bradford." He said to Grey.

"That's disappointing," Grey walks towards Lucy and stops in front of her. "Officer Chen?" He asked.

"I, too, failed in my assignment, Sergeant." Lucy said.

"All right," Grey walks up to Nolan. "All right, that leaves you, Officer Nolan. You can literally say anything and win the contest." He told him.

"Sorry, sir. Just as stumped as the others." Nolan said.

"Okay, fine. So no one wants extra credit," Grey steps back to address the three rookies. "I guess we'll start at the basics. Tomorrow morning, you will have a quiz on your rook books. Study hard, 'cause 80 percent is considered a fail in my house. Dismissed." He said.

***

The group breaks up into conversations and all disperse, Angela and Tim walk past the staircase. "Looks like I fixed your rookie for you." Tim comments.

"Thanks. And I didn't get you anything." Angela said looking at Tim.

"The only thing I need is for you not to lie to me again." Tim said.

Hunter walked over to the two of them. "So, is your friendship fixed?" She asked.

"It was never broken." Angela and Tim said.

Hunter chuckled. "Yeah, I know." Hunter then walked off to the women's locker room.

Angela and Tim watched her go, Angela then looked at Tim. "You should tell her," Tim looks down at Angela, raising an eyebrow confused. "Don't act confused, you know what I mean." Angela said.

Tim rolled his eyes. "Good night, Angela." Tim walked off to the men's locker room.

So, I know the Roundup is TOs and Rookies but I'm gonna involve Hunter and Grant as well just for the fun of it.
