***

Hunter was sitting in the hospital room, having allowed Lexi to stay at Tim's house by herself, so long as she promises to go to school the next morning and calls her when she gets there, which she did so, Hunter left her alone but told her to call if needed.

***

The next day, Tim stirs and looks over seeing Hunter with her arms on the edge of the bed, and using them as a pillow for her head. Tim carefully woke up Hunter, who grinned and messaged Angela and Talia.

Later, Tim is putting on his civilian clothes. A nurse comes in with a wheelchair, Tim grimaces at that while Hunter chuckled and grabbed the keys. "Checkout time, Officer." the nurse said.

"Yeah, no. I'm walking out of here." Tim states as he eyed the wheelchair disparagingly.

"Hospital policy." the nurse replied.

"I don't care." Tim said. The nurse and Hunter give him a look and he relents.

***

The nurse is pushing the wheelchair down the hall, Tim sits on his phone while Hunter walks beside the wheelchair. "So, is your girlfriend driving?" the nurse asked Tim.

"Not his girlfriend." "Not my girlfriend." Tim and Hunter both said at the same time. The nurse frowned curiously at that, normally family or a girlfriend are someone's medical contact but she said nothing.

"But, I'd say so," Tim looks up at Hunter. "You've got the keys right?" Hunter nodded. "Yes, Hunt's driving." Tim replied, before looking back down at his phone.

"I can't believe my sister was the one to tell me you were getting out and not you." Angela huffed, pretending to be offended, Tim looks up seeing Grant, Angela and Talia in front of him, all in civilian clothes while Hunter laughs slightly.

"It's because he doesn't need our help or Hunter's 'cause he's a tough guy, but we're here anyway." Talia said.

"Who doesn't need anybody's help." Grant adds with a smirk.

Tim looks done as Hunter goes over to hug her sister and friends. "Are you three done?" he asked.

"No. Smile." Angela said with a grin that Tim and Hunter knew all too well, she, Grant and Talia joined Hunter, and the nurse at Tim's wheelchair for a selfie with all the women smiling while Tim looks annoyed. Hunter just grinned at him.

***

Lucy walks into the briefing room. "Hey." She said when she saw Grant.

"Did you break up with him yet?" Grant asked cutting to the chase.

"Uh- Look, I appreciate you looking out for me." Lucy was saying when Grant interrupts her.

"Oh, Chen, you misunderstand. I did you a solid. You only get but one. You want to sabotage your career before it starts, that's on you now." Without another word he walked to his seat and Lucy dodged the bouquet that Nolan throws behind him as she walked towards her chair, Grey walked in eyeing the bouquet.

"What do you think that was about?" Hunter asked her sister softly, Angela just shrugged and Hunter made a mental note to ask Grant what he was talking to Lucy about when they go on patrol.

"All right, the honeymoon's over," Grey walked up to the whiteboard and wrote three numbers on the board saying them as he goes. "3, 5, 21. Officer Nolan, you care to guess what these numbers represent?" Grey asked turning towards Nolan.

"Combination to your heart, sir?" Nolan asked jokingly, Lucy bites her lip to stop herself from laughing while there were scattered chuckles around the room.

"3 is the number of opportunities you had to disable Runaway Bride's car yesterday. 5 vehicles were damaged because you failed to do so. And the last number. Officer Bishop?" Grey asked, turning his attention to Talia.

"$21,000 in property damage the city has to pay." Talia said, somewhat reluctantly.

"Correct. All in all, Officer Nolan's first pursuit reveals room for improvement." Grey said.

"Yes, sir." Talia said.

"Onward. Officer Chen is in need of a training officer until Tim Bradford is cleared for duty. Officer Scott Wrigley, you get the nod," Lucy turned around to Wrigley nodded to her slightly, Lucy gave a small wave in return. "That's it. Stay safe out there," everyone starts standing up when Grey remembers something and calls out to three of his officers. "Oh, Lopez, Lopez, West, see the captain on the way out."

Hunter and Angela shared a look as Jackson walked up to them. "What do you think she wants?" he asked.

"Nothing good." Angela said.

***

Hunter, Angela and Jackson all walk into Zoe's office, she's reading a file while the three sit down across from her desk, Zoe looked up at the three of them. "I was reading over your report on the Officer Bradford shooting. First off, none of you had your body cams on, which I understand. You were under fire. What I don't understand is how both Lopez's emptied one magazine each both striking the suspect in the leg, but Officer West, you didn't fire a single shot."

Hunter opens her mouth, which Angela notices and cuts her off before she can speak. "If I may. Officer West did not have a protected position from which to fire, so I urged him to stay down while Hunter and I engaged the suspect." Hunter shoots Angela an annoyed look.

"Is there anything that you would like to add?" Zoe asked Hunter and Jackson.

Hunter shook her head, biting her lip to keep her mouth shut while Jackson spoke. "No, ma'am." he said.

"Okay. Get back to work." Zoe said.

Hunter, Angela and Jackson leave the office.

***

The three of them walk down the stairs and Jackson speaks to Angela. "Thanks." Jackson said.

Hunter said nothing, if Angela hadn't intervened the red head would've ratted Jackson out.

"I didn't do it for you. The golden boy with the VIP dad flunks out on my watch, I can wave detective goodbye. I just hope protecting you doesn't get me killed." Angela said.

***

Hunter walked into the Sally Port garage, noticing how Grant had set the shop up causing her to smile slightly. "Thanks for setting up the shop." Hunter said as she made her way over to Grant, who smiled slightly.

"You're not a rookie anymore, if Tim was your partner instead of me I know for a fact that he would set up the shop," Grant looks at her. "After I spoke with him, obviously." Hunter amends.

"Exactly." Hunter said as she got in the drivers seat.

***

Once they're on the street Hunter decides to speak. "So, what were you talking to Lucy about this morning?"

Grant shifts, gripping the steering wheel slightly tightly. "Nothing." He said his voice clipped.

"Sure." Hunter said sarcastically as she grabbed her phone out and started texting Tim about what they should have for dinner with Lexi and to go to the diner that Wrigley drops his rookies at while he goes to eat mac n cheese.

"Fine," Grant huffed, hating the silence. "It was about Chen and Nolan." He said.

Hunter looked up from her phone, having placed it on the phone holder in the shop. "What about them?" She asked.

"She and Nolan are dating, Talia knows already." Grant said.

Hunter whistled. "She's gonna get a rep if this gets out. If she wants to date cops she needs to become a well decorated cop in the department. Hell, dating cops is against the rules if it's not above board and you're in their chain of command."

"I warned her, but they haven't broken up yet. Talia knows, so she might talk to her eventually." said Grant.

"Ooh, pull up outside the diner, Wrigley'll be here soon and so will Tim." Hunter said, pointing at the diner through the windscreen, Grant chuckled.

***

Wrigley and Lucy are sitting in a patrol car, lurking around a corner watching for stop-sign runners. "A morning of rolling-stop citations should take us nicely into lunch." Wrigley said.

"We're gonna sit here all morning?" Lucy asked, sounding slightly disappointed.

"Hey, writing tickets is the heart of the job." Wrigley said.

"Do you want to, uh, quiz me or something?" Lucy asked, adjusting her seatbelt.

"Nope." Wrigley said.

Lucy sighed and looked out the window.

***

Wrigley leads Lucy into the diner, she looks around confused. "Great morning, Officer Chen. I'm gonna drop you here for lunch." Wrigley said.

"What?" Lucy scoffed.

"Oh, uh, I like to go home to eat, you know, get these wool pants off, air things out. Be back in 40." Wrigley said, he then left the diner.

Lucy sighs and walks over to order her food, a few moments later Hunter walked in and sat across from her, Lucy raised an eyebrow in confusion when she noticed Tim sitting beside her.

"Why the long face, Boot?" Tim asked.

"Hey. What are you doing here?" Lucy asked both of them.

"Hunter tells me you got Wrigley, he always dumps his rookies here while he goes home to eat mac and cheese in his undies." Tim said.

"So, what, you came to check on me?" Lucy asked.

"I live around the corner. I was getting takeout." Tim said.

Hunter rolled her eyes at the blatant lie. "So, how's it going?" She asked.

"It's good. Officer Wrigley is, um - Yeah, he's - he's cautious." Lucy said.

"He's what we call a slug, just doing his time, allergic to real police work." Tim said and Hunter nodded in agreement.

"Yeah. Yeah." Lucy said.

"You must like the quiet, though." Tim said.

Lucy didn't have time to answer when the radio went off. "Wilshire units, store owner called with suspected shoplifter. Caucasian male, yellow track suit. 314 Franklin Drive." Someone on Dispatch said, it was probably Nell Forster.

"That's three blocks from here, Boot." Tim said.

"What, a-am I supposed to respond? My T.O.'s not here, and I don't have a car." Lucy said in disbelief.

"You've got legs, don't you?" Hunter asked.

"7-Adam-21 responding on foot." Lucy said into her radio, she then stood up and left the booth quickly.

"Uh, skipping out on the bill?" Tim asked after her.

"No, no," Lucy quickly dropped some cash on the table and takes off again. "Right. Uh, whatever." she said not caring about how much she dumped.

"Run, Boot! Run!" Tim yelled.

Hunter rolled her eyes and ate some of the chips that Lucy had left. "Right, I better get back to patrol."

"Yep. I'll see you tonight." said Tim.

"If Lexi calls you, answer it." Hunter said as she walked out.

When someone in a yellow tracksuit ran past holding a bunch of money, Hunter was about to make chase when Lucy ran past, but Hunter ran after them both anyway just in case Lucy needed help.

"Hey! Police! Stop! Hey! Hey! Police!" Lucy yelled and then as she passed the pedestrians. "Watch out, watch out," she yelled out to the criminal again. "Stop!"

Hunter was following and managed to dodge a pedestrian. "Come on!" the man yelled.

"Police! Hey," Lucy tackles the suspect to the sidewalk. "Stay on the ground! Hands behind your back." Lucy cuffed the man.

"Nice, Tim's trained you well." Hunter comments.

"Do your thing, girl." Someone comments, Hunter chuckled.

Wrigley pulls up in the patrol car, he chirps the siren and Lucy looks over at him and sees he's grinning in approval.

"Right, I'll see you back at the station." Hunter said. Lucy nodded and Hunter walked off to find Grant.

***

Hunter gets back into the shop. "Hey." Grant said, putting down his crossword.

"Ooh, next time you get a crossword, buy me one." Hunter requested.

Grant nodded and started driving again, when Nell from Dispatch spoke. "7-Adam-20, suspected DUI on Melrose, grey Honda, partial Los Angeles license plates Ida-Fifteen-Beach-Four."

"7-Adam-20, responding." said Hunter into the radio.

***

"Alright, Grant, you wanna do this or shall I?" Hunter asked her partner as they pulled up onto the scene, both of them noticing the Honda slammed into a lighting pole.

"You can do it." Grant shrugged. "Think of it as a welcome home present."

"Hilarious." said Hunter dryly but she walked up to the drivers window and knocked on it, causing the woman inside to lower the window. "Ma'am. Can I have your license and registration please?" He asked.

"Sure," The driver said, slurring her words she reached for the glovebox, pulling out the paperwork and handed it to Hunter.

Hunter took the paperwork and grabbed her radio. "Dispatch, can I get info on a Roseanna Cheung, owner of the reported DUI. Vehicle is a grey Honda, plates Ida-Fifteen-Beach-Four-Ocean-Eight." She waited for a moment before Nell got back to her.

"The vehicle is clear, but Ms. Cheung has an arrest warrant out for felony drug possession."

"Right. Thanks Nell." Hunter said, she placed the radio away. "Ma'am, can you exit your vehicle please?" Hunter asked.

Roseanna did as she was asked. But as Hunter went for her cuffs to arrest her, she pushed Hunter into her car and attempted to make her escape. Grant made chase, with Hunter following him.

Grant managed to catch Roseanna and put the cuffs on her. "I forgot, you're like 6'2, making you faster than me, I don't even know why I bothered running as well." Hunter said as she caught up.

"In case I couldn't catch her, besides you're 5'9, you're not that short." Grant said, shrugging. He then led Roseanna to the shop and placed her in the backseat before closing the door.

"Right, we need to get her to processing." Hunter said, getting in the shop, with Grant following shortly after.

***

"Alright, Officer Lawrence can you take her?" Hunter asked, handing Roseanna off to her partner, she then turns her flashlight on to search the back seat, once she's cleared it, she leads Roseanna into the Booking Area. "Lawrence, you can catch up on paperwork."

Grant nods and leaves Hunter to book their suspect, passing Lucy as he walks into the main area of the LAPD, she smiles at him and Grant nods in return, Lucy seems to be filling out paperwork herself, as is Jackson and Nolan.

"Shoes, socks and jewelry must be removed, do I have your permission to proceed?" Hunter asked Roseanna who nodded her head. Hunter removes what she needs to and places them in evidence bags.

Hunter then grabbed Roseanna and led her to the main booking area. "Palm and thumb prints." She places Roseanna's palm on the fingerprint scanner and then her thumb, Hunter the placed Roseanna in front of the mug shot background. "Mug-shot time," Roseanna's photo is taken. "Now turn to the right," she turns and her photo's taken again.

She then took Roseanna to the cell area and locked her up, grabbing the booking paper work and filling it out, when she noticed all three rookies with their TOs behind them, all with paperwork from arrests themselves.

Grey goes for Hunter's paperwork first, he reads it over and then hands it back to Hunter. "Good." He said.

Hunter nodded and walked off, going to find Grant. She found him at his desk, when she noticed the pile of paperwork. "Damn, you know what, you've got a lot of paperwork to catch up on, this is why it's helpful to have a partner, so I'm gonna help you."

"Nah, I'll just come in early and do it. So let's do patrol." said Grant standing up, Hunter chuckled, knowing that if he had the option, Grant would skip out on paperwork and do patrol work instead.

***

"Her name is Emma Vasquez," everyone was listening to Grey while there was a photo of Emma on the screen in front of them, they were in the briefing room, learning about the women that were taken. "Reported missing three weeks ago. Detectives think she's the one that Christine left behind." Grey explained.

"I've approved extra shifts and O.T. until we find this girl." Zoe said, standing in the briefing room.

"Everyone canvasses between calls. Anything else?" Grey asked.

"Yes, one more thing. Officer Nolan," Nolan looks up at Zoe. "The motor pool is considering taking out a hit on you for all the damage you've caused to their vehicles. I talked them into, uh, a different solution." she said.

***

Zoe leads the way to where a patrol car is parked. It's probably as old as Nolan himself, the other officers laugh. "Try not to damage her, huh?" She suggested, she hooks the keys on a pocket on Nolan's uniform, as his hands are full of gear.

"I'm never gonna live this down." Talia said, she has difficulty opening the car door.

***

Hunter and Grant were patrolling when Talia's voice came over the radio. "7-Adam-15 requesting help. Shots fired, 2311 Bailey Avenue."

Grant picked the shop radio up. "7-Adam-20, responding."

***

Hunter pulls up at Bailey Avenue, seeing Wrigley and Lucy arrive at the same time, Talia's trying and failing to get through the door, Nolan's already inside looking for Emma. "Nolan!" Talia yelled trying to get his attention.

That's when the five of them hear gunfire, Talia runs back to her shop and puts the car in reverse and rams the front door of the house. In the basement, the ceiling cracks and debris falls, Talia knows she distracted the man.

Hunter, Grant, Wrigley and Lucy all make their way inside.

***

Lucy and Hunter both see Nolan looking out of the basement for anymore danger, the man escapes through a narrow hole and that's when Nolan notices Hunter, Grant, Lucy and Wrigley. "Whoa, hey, are you okay?" Lucy asked.

"Yeah. He's on the move. I need someone to stay with Emma." Nolan said.

"I'll do it," Wrigley gets his radio out. "7-Adam-21 need an R. A. and supervisor at 3017 Bailey Avenue."

***

Hunter, Grant, Nolan and Lucy are chasing the man on foot and Talia's going after him via the car. "Suspect heading east on foot into Rosedale Cemetery. Send backup and airship." Talia said over the radios.

The man falls head first onto the ground after tripping over his own feet. "Stay down!" Lucy yelled.

The man gets back up and keeps running. Talia drives up and jumps out of the car, stopping the man at gunpoint. Nolan tackles the suspect from behind and starts punching him in the face.

"Nolan!" Hunter yelled. "That's enough," Hunter interlocks her arm with Nolan's elbow and stops him from hitting the suspect. "He's done. Hook him up." She ordered.

"Okay." Nolan sighed.

***

Hunter and Tim are talking to Wrigley and laughing, something Lucy notices as she rounds the corner from the desk where they pick the warbags and shot guns up when they start their shift, she walked over to the three of them.

"Alright, keep it safe." Tim said, shaking Wrigley's hand.

"One ticket at a time," Wrigley then gives Hunter a quick hug and turns to Lucy. "Great working with you, Officer Chen."

"Yeah. You, too, sir." Lucy replied.

Wrigley then walks away, Hunter and Tim turn towards Arizona. "I'm cleared for duty. Turned in my paperwork." Tim said.

"Oh," Lucy goes silent for a moment. "You had me assigned to him, didn't you?" She asked.

"Everything with me is a test, Officer Chen. Lucky for you, you passed this one. Now, if you had been cool half-assing it with Wrigley, then I'd know you weren't serious about becoming a good cop." Tim replied.

Lucy turned to Hunter. "You already knew this, didn't you?" Hunter just nodded, Lucy turned back to Tim. "With all due respect, sir, you're a pain in my ass."

"That's my job. Now, get some rest. See you tomorrow." Tim replied.

Lucy watches as Tim and Hunter both leave, walking in close proximity, Hunter laughing at something Tim said.
