Chap. 2 - Unheard

19:38, 17 June 2023

Communications Droid: - Sir, we have reported that the enemy general has fallen.

Coburn: - What? -

Communications Droid: - Confirmed sir, Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi has fallen. -

Coburn: - Excellent news but... How? -

Ícaro: - It seems that we give too much credit to this Jedi. -

Coburn: - I don't believe it. Ki-Adi-Mundi pushed back our troops in more of two sectors. -

Icarus: - Well. Apparently not anymore... -

Communications Droid: - Sir, we have reported that the clones have stopped to advance. -

Icarus: - Very well. How many troops do we have in position? -

Communications droid: - Barely two hundred sir droids. -

Icarus: - That's impossible. -

Coburn: - Something wrong? -

Icarus: - I have not seen the Jedi in action, but I know the clones quite well. Just a couple of them are enough to destroy a small battalion. It is impossible that only two hundred droids could stop the clones. There is something strange happening. -

Communications droid: - Sir, it was not our forces. Apparently the clones stopped firing for no apparent reason. -

Coburn:- This is very strange. -

Icarus: - Let's not waste time. All droids advance. Eliminate as many as possible. -

As Icarus had ordered, the small column of droids advanced on the bridge, recovering positions. The clones were in shock, none of them moved and they were barely able to return the enemy fire. One by one, the small group of droids managed to defeat over five hundred clones who did nothing to prevent their tragic fate. It was as if something strange was happening in the Republic forces. And so, after just a few minutes:

Communications Droid: - Sir, we are informed that we are winning on all fronts. Our troops are breaking through enemy formations with little effort. We have also recovered the eastern sector of the city. -

Coburn: - Excellent. - The colonel turns around, but is struck by the fact that Ícaro did not say a word. - Hey. icarus. Any problem? -

Icarus: - None of this makes sense. Something is not right. Do we have the recordings of the death of the enemy general? -

Communications droid: - Yes sir. -

Icarus: - Put it on the holoprojector board. I want to see exactly what happened. -

The recording began a few minutes before Ki-Adi-Mundi's death. As Coburn had mentioned, the arrival of the Jedi on the battlefield provided a strong boost to the clone forces. But after several minutes fighting on the bridge, the Jedi launches the attack followed by his troops, but the clones stop several meters before him.

Ki-Adi-Mundi slowly turns around and looks worriedly at his men, and before he can react, his own men, those clones he had fought side by side since the start of the war, shot him point-blank in the middle of combat.

Coburn: - Impossible. It seems your suspicions were correct. -

Icarus: - Something is not right. This is supposed to not have happened. -

They both continued to watch the recording and realized that all the clones froze, as if they were disconnected droids as they fell one by one before the Separatist fire. The recording ends when the separatist troops take possession from that part of the bridge.

Coburn: - What are you thinking? -

Icarus: - I am not able to process these events. Never before had such an event been seen. It's...unheard. - Icarus turns and approaches the window that gives vision to the bridge. - Is the perimeter secure? -

Communications Droid: - We have secured a perimeter several kilometers outside of the city. -

Coburn: - That's impossible. It was too fast. -

Icarus: - I'll go check. -

Coburn: - Where are you going? -

Icarus: - If we want to know exactly what happened, we must investigate the scene in more detail. I'll go, you stay at the command post in case something unforeseen happens. -

Icarus left the command post and went to the bridge where the fierce battle was fought. He walked slowly looking at the remains of the battle. Hundreds of droids destroyed they piled up over the bridge, and then hundreds of clone corpses. He finally reached it, the lifeless body of Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi lying on the asphalt.face down, and a few meters from him, some of the clones that executed him.

Icarus walked slowly among the dead, trying to process what had happened, but they couldn't find anything that would give him a clue. He inspected the Jedi's body in detail and noted the dozens of blaster hits he had, and then he understood that it was not a mere accident. The clones had intentionally shot him, and they wanted him dead.

Icarus picked up Ki-Adi-Mundi's saber and looked at it indifferently. He put it in one of the compartments on his thigh and continued to review the scene. Feeling no fear of death, Icarus's metal core did not hesitate at the time of removing the helmets from the clones to look at their faces.

He grabbed the head of the corpse of a clone and checked its eyes, its mouth and inside its ears, but nothing gave him a clue as to what had happened. He kept checking it carefully until he finally felt something strange in his head.clone. Apparently, inside the individual's skull was a kind of metal plate. He couldn't tell what it was, but he could feel it on the clone's right ear with the magnetic sensors in his hands. But before he could have an idea of what it was, he received a call from the command post.

Icarus answered the holo communicator and saw Coburn, upset, yelling at him loudly.

Coburn: - Icarus. We must evacuate immediately. -

Icarus: - What's going on? -

Coburn: - It's the Republic. An army is coming like never before. We must leave the planet before... AAAAAHHHHH. - Communication is interrupted.

Before Icarus could react, he raised his head and saw a huge explosion where the command post used to be. Next, a huge Venator battleship descended and positioned itself over the city, and before they could react, the battleship began to open fire with all its weapons.

The Venator's powerful blasters slammed into the surface, ripping the city to pieces. Icarus watched in surprise as the mighty capital city of Mygeeto gave way to such an overwhelming destructive force.

Icarus was confused, first the clones kill their own general, then a Venator battleship rampages through a city killing thousands of innocent lives. For the peculiar droid with its core capable of processing the emotions of organic creatures, this was simply incomprehensible.

The fire spread through the city quickly as the Venator did not stop firing. the huge buildings they fell and caused strong tremors, the bridge where Icarus was shaking strongly. Finally, two shots from the Venator hit the base of the bridge and it collapsed.

Icarus fell next to the remains of the bridge from a great height. Destroyed droids and corpses fell alongside him. And after a few seconds, the heavy impact of debris against the ground shakes the earth, and Icarus's systems shut down permanently upon impact.
