Chapter 21-New brother?

06:21, 23 March 2017

"Hey, Emmy, here ya go." Gally said, handing me a set of crutches. I jumped up off of the bed.

"YES!" I shouted, leaning on my uninjured leg and grabbing the crutches. Gally shook his head but smiled and I stuck my tongue out at him. I put the crutches under my arms and leaned forward onto them. They held my weight and I smiled a bit. I can finally move by myself, which seemed to take a giant weight off of my shoulders.

"Come, on, let's go outside." I said. Gally opened the door and I slowly hobbled out, followed closes by Jeff. I heard the door close behind us and Gally appeared next to me.

"Okay, now, don't go walking around too much, greenie. I get you want to move around and stuff but your leg can still start bleeding at any time. If it hurts or something, tell someone and they'll bring you back here so I can give you some pain meds, okay?" Jeff asked. I nodded, and he smiled before walking back into the medjack hut. I turned back to Gally.

"So, are you gonna head back to your builder buddies?" I asked teasing. He made a face but laughed a bit.

"Builder buddies? You make it sound like we're shucking 4 years old." He shook his head and then smiled. "But no, I'm not going back to my 'builder buddies,' Jeff asked me to keep an eye on you today." He looked around at the trees, and I scoffed.

"Wow, look at the big tough Gally being my tour guide around the glade." I said, rolling eyes and poking him in the shoulder. He looked down at me and raised one of his weird looking eyebrows.

"What, is something wrong with me following the orders of the medjacks? Is something wrong with that?" he asked, and I nodded.

"yes, something is a wrong with that Gally." I said, lifting up my eyebrow and shooting him a look.

"Oh really. And what is that problem?" Gally asked. I turned  and pointed over his shoulder towards the kitchen.

"I'm hungry, and you're not getting me food."

"...wow, okay. I see how it is. I'll go get you some food, since apparently I'm your errand boy now." Gally said rolling his eyes. I laughed and waved my hand in the air.

"nah, I'm kidding, I don't need you to get me food." I said. He looked over at the kitchen.

"Really, if you want it I would go get you a sandwich or something." He said. I shook my head.

"Nah, I'm fine. I don't need a sandwich." I said, shaking my head. Gally nodded and seemed relieve, like he was just offering to be nice.

"Cool." He said. I nodded, but then I paused, shrugged my shoulders and said. "buuuuut if you insist, I'd love a bowl of soup or something." Gally threw his hands in the air.

"Ugh...fine. But don't be surprised if I just 'accidentally' spill the soup on my walk back." He said, turning around to walk away.

"You wouldn't dare!" I shouted after him.

"Try me!" He shouted over his shoulder. I laughed and shook my head. I slowly made my way over to a tree and leaned over, setting my hand against the tree bark. I set the crutches on the ground and sat down in front of the tree. I stretched my legs out in front of me, just enjoying the feeling of the grass. I looked at the other glader boys that are running around. The builders were...building, as usual. I laughed when I saw someone accidentally hammer their thumb instead of the building. The slicers were busy with their job, but I didn't pay too much attention to them. The sloppers were busy cleaning out the animal pen, and I watched their expressions. Most of them wore a face that was twisted up in disgust. I looked over to the open maze doors, almost expecting to see the runners come running back through, until I realized it was only noon and they were still busy running. I turned to the track-hoes, and looked through all of the boys until I saw Newt. He was crouched down on the ground, digging up weeds. He had dirt all over his hands, and he stopped to wipe the sweat off of his forehead, leaving a strip of dirt on his face. He stood up and wiped his hands on his pants before moving on to another section of plants. I smiled to myself and kept watching him work for a bit, until I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Ahem." I heard some call. I looked up and saw Gally holding out a bowl of soup for me.

"Oh, thanks Gally!" I gladly took the bowl from his hands and took a bite. Chicken noodle soup. It could have been improved by a few bits of carrot, and maybe some more salt, but who was I to judge? Gally sat down in the grass next to me, and looked out at the boys. His eyes glanced around, before landing on Newt.

"So...you and Newt, huh?" He said. I nodded and ate another spoonful of soup. Gally nodded.

"Is he treating you well?" He turned and looked at me. I finished chewing the spoonful of soup I was eating and set the spoon back in the bowl.

"Oh, um. Yeah, he is." I said. Gally looked over at Newt.

"Good. Good. Newt's a good guy, but If he does anything stupid, let me know and I'll take care of him" I nodded and smiled at him.

"Thanks Gally, but I think I'm fine." I said. He nodded and I finished my bowl of soup, setting it on the grass next to me.

"Why do you feel the need to protect me, exactly?" I asked. He shrugged and twirled a blade of grass around his finger before pulling it out of the dirt.

"You're like my sister, I don't know." He said. I smiled and leaned over onto his shoulder. Gally is cool, I can picture him being my brother. We don't look anything alike at all, but he does act like a protective, maybe adoptive, older brother.

"Okay, you can be my older brother for a bit. I don't even remember if I have one, so." I nodded up at him and he smiled.

"Cool." He paused, smirking a bit as he looked out into the glade. "Sooo..., as your brother, can I make sure those other shanks stay away from you?" He asked, grinning. I tapped my chin, pretending to be thinking.

"Um, let's see...how would you do that exactly?" I asked. He shrugged and rubbed his chin."Umm, maybe throw them in the pit?" He asked. I shook my head and tucked my uninjured knee up to my chest before resting my elbows on it.

"Fine, just not my friends. If I tell you it's fine, then sure. And stay away from Newt." I said. Gally groaned and leaned his head back against the tree.

"But he's the shank I WANT to throw in the pit. Imagine it, the second command sitting in the dirt. It'd be hilarious!" He said waving his hands in the air. I slapped him on the shoulder and he laughed.

"Hey!" He called, and started rubbing his arm.

"That is my boyfriend you're talking about, Gally!" I said laughing and swatting his arm again. He started laughing too.

"Yeah, I know he's your boyfriend," He paused, rubbing the back of his neck. He smirked and looked at me out of the corner of his eye. "So...why don't we go see him?" Gally stood up, grabbed my hands and threw me over his shoulder. I screamed and he laughed again.

"GALLY!!! PUT ME DOWN!!!" I yelled, thumping his back with my fists. He shook his head.

"Nope! We're going to find your boyfriend and I'm gonna give him a warning." He started walking across the glade. "A warning about what?!" I shrieked, giggling a bit. Gally clomped his way put through the trees.

"A warning that if he hurts you ill beat the living klunk out of him."

"GALLY!!!" I shouted again. He laughed and I sighed, wiping my hair our of my eyes. I looked down at the ground and watched his brown boots clomp over the dirt. I rolled my eyes, of course Gally would be the one to do this. I'm starting regret making him my temporary brother already.

"Gally, can you put me down now?" I asked. He didnt say anything, just jumped a little bit, and I bounced around on his shoulder, making my hair fly into my face. I groaned, lifted it up with the back of my hand. He laughed a bit and I rolled my eyes, then looked around.

"Gally? What are you doing with Emmy?" I heard a voice call, and recognized it as Zart. I had an idea.

"Zart! Tell him to put me down!" I shouted over Gally's shoulder. Zart raised an eyebrow.

"Uhh...." He glanced at me, a confused look on his face and I gave him a small wave. He waved back but didn't say anything.

"Zart, a little help please?" I asked. Zart just looked at me with a blank expression. I sighed.

"Thanks for the help, Zart." I groaned, before punching Gally on the shoulder a few times.

"Put." Thump. "Me." Thump. "Down." Thump.

"Emmy, can you stop hitting me?" Gally asked, smirking.

"Not until you put me down!" I said hitting his shoulder again. He laughed.

"No."

"Yes!"

"No!"

"Gally the second my leg is healed I'm so beating you up!" I said, hitting his shoulder again.

"Wow, look I'm so scared. Your punches are pretty weak Emmy, I think I'd win."

"Not a chance. Dream on Gally, you're still way slower than i am. You wouldn't even be able to catch me!" I taunted. I heard Gally snicker and then his hands were around my stomach, picking me up and flipping over his shoulders. I shrieked as he dropped me in the grass, but it didn't hurt at all. It felt like landing on a pillow.

"Look who's slow now." Gally said smirking and leaning over me. I scrunched up my face and grabbed a handful of grass from the ground next to me.

"Get that ugly face away from me," I said, tossing the grass up at him. He staggered back a bit, wiping the dirt off of his face.

"Gross," He said, wiping the back of his arm over his eyes and forehead to get the dirt off.

"That's what you get," I smirked, pushing myself up onto my elbows.

"Yeah, yeah, I know...I just-" He paused and made a face. He brought his hand up to his face and pulled a blade of grass out of his mouth.

"EW!" I shrieked. Gally nodded in agreement and flicked it onto the ground. Then he pointed an accusing finger at me.

"You don't get to talk, Missy! You're the one that threw it at me!" He said, and I started laughing. I saw a familiar boy walk up behind Gally and smiled.

"Emmy, Gally, what are you two doing here?" Newt asked. I smiled and pointed at him.

"He started it!" I shouted and kept pointing. Gally's mouth dropped open and he tossed some grass in my hair. I shrieked a bit and the boys laughed. Gally stuck his tongue out at me.

"I didn't start anything! She can't get upset with me at all, she asked me to be her brother for a bit, so I'm acting the part!" He added, tossing more grass into my hair.

"GALLY! Carrying me across the glade, and throwing me into the grass is not what I meant!" I said, pulling the dirt and weeds out of my hair. Newt laughed and raised an eyebrow.

"Wait...brother? What exactly am I missing here?" He asked. I laughed and pointed up at Gally again, who smirked.

"Well, Gally said he thought of me as his sister, and I don't have a brother, so I said he could be my brother for a bit." I said laughing a bit.

Newt nodded and looked over at Gally, who shrugged.

"So...you're her brother now?" He asked. Gally nodded.

"Yep, kinda." Gally said smugly. Newt nodded, and a slightly mischievous grin spread across his face.

"Oh, well, I'm gonna kiss your sister, alright?" Newt asked, smirking. He took a step towards me, but Gally shot out a hand and clamped it onto Newt's shoulder, preventing him from walking towards me. Newt turned and looked at Gally, raising one of his eyebrows.

"Nuh-uh. Not today, shank." Newt turned his head to the side and pressed his lips together. He made the same face that Minho makes when he's about to sass someone. (LOL, see the pic above, I love his face😂)

Newt opened his mouth to say something, but I interrupted him by standing up. I limped over and wrapped my arms around Newt's neck, kissing him quickly. New was surprised, but quickly wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I twirled some of his hair around my finger, and he kept kissing me. I pulled away and slowly turned to look at Gally, a triumphant smile plastered on my face. Gally scrunched up his face and his arms were crossed over his chest. I waved my hand in the air, acting like I'm pointing out a fact.

"Remember, I can see Newt. I get you're my brother, but Newt is mine." Newt wrapped his arm around my waist and Gally rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah, got it." He said, bending down at grabbing a handful of dirt and grass. He looked at it for a second before smirking and throwing it at me and Newt.

"HEY!!! GALLLLYYY!!!!!" I shrieked, laughing. Newt covered his face with his hands, surprised at the attack. I bent down and grabbed some grass myself, tearing it out of the dirt, before launching it at Gally. He ducked down and only a few pieces landed in his hair. Gally stood back up and pointed at me, ready to laugh, when Newt popped up behind him and rubbed dirt into Gally's hair. The brown and green made his cropped blonde hair seemed filthy, and I laughed out loud. Gally shouted and tried to swat Newt's hand away, but the builder was, as I predicted, much slower than Newt. Gaslly's back was turned to me, so I crouched down, grabbed two more handfuls of grass and sprinkled it in his hair. He turned around to face me, his eyes smiling but his mouth hanging open.

"Sorry Gally, you're just too slow!" I chanted, and he shook his head. He was still smiling, but he rolled his eyes and threw his hands in the air.

"Okay, Okay, fine! I give up! I surrender! Go make out with Newt for all I care! I'm gonna go get this dirt of my hair now." He rolled his eyes again and walked away. I watched him go, and Newt bent over to shake the dirt of his own hair. Gally turned at the last second and winked, giving me a thumbs up, before he turned and walked into the homestead. I shook my head and smiled. I turned back around to see Newt, running his hands through his hair.

"Did I get all of the dirt out?" He asked. I had to stop myself from giggling. He had gotten all of the dirt, but there were quite a few blades of grass mixed in with his dirty blonde hair. I shook my head and he sighed, before waving his hand in the air.

"Eh, I'll get it later." he said. I giggled a bit and he smiled. Newt's gaze shifted from my face to my leg, and his smile faded just the slightest bit. Newt stood in front of me.

"You shouldn't be out here, your leg is still hurt." He said, gesturing to my knee. Internally, I groaned. Enough about my leg, it's not that big of a deal, geez! But, instead of saying that, i shrugged.

"I'm fine. Besides, I may even have a matching limp with you." I said, nudging him with my elbow. He shook his head and sighed.

"Oh god I hope not. It's not very fun walking around like this, ya know." He said, gesturing to his own leg now. I nodded, I was beginning to understand. I made a mental note to ask about Newt's leg later. I looked at the ground but my attention was drawn back to newt when he said, "so...Gally, huh?" He asked. I nodded.

"Oh, uh, yeah. I don't know, I was joking at first, but I don't really mind." I said, shrugging my shoulders. Newt nodded and licked his lips.

"Alright, as long as he doesn't try to keep you from me." Newt asked. He glanced down at my lips, then back up at my eyes. EEEK! he's so cute, shuck. I tried not to smile, and instead I shook my head.

"He couldn't if he tried." I said, wrapping my arms around Newt's neck, again. I wanted to be closer to him, to see his beautiful brown eyes up close. Newt smiled and nodded.

"Good, otherwise I couldn't kiss you anymore. We don't want him crying to Alby now do we." He said, his eyes darting down to my lips again. I shook my head. Gally probably would do that, just to get a few laughs, but Newt is second in command, so who cares. I rolled my eyes.

"Awe shuck it, Gally can cry all he wants." I said, and kissed Newt again.

(A/N) So, sorry, if this is a bit late, and the chapter might seem a bit rushed. I've been suuuuuper busy lately, but I'll try to post more often. And that picture, I died laughing at it for some reason and had to include it. I could just picture him looking at Gally like that, so yeah. Also, I'm still considering writing a Maze Runner preference/ imagine book, so let me know if you guys would be interested. Thanks, I love ya!
