Chapter 130
01:51, 1 November 2014Conor’s POV
“Fucking hell, that must’ve took some convincing” Alex gasps when I tell him that Lucy will actually go on a date with me.
“It did” I nod. “But who would turn me down? Let’s be serious”
“Such an egotist” he chuckles, shaking his head. “Anyway, let’s celebrate”
“Alex-“
“You’ve not come to my house just to gloat about you and Lucy going on a date. I know you better than that, Maynard” he frowns, going over to his fridge and pulling out a can of beer. He throws me a can and I smirk as I crack it open. “Let’s... Celebrate”
“How can I turn it down?” I ask rhetorically, gulping down as much as possible in sync with Alex. He lets out a giant burp and sits comfortably on the kitchen counter.
“Okay, now that I’ve got a bit of a buzz, you can go into a bit of detail about how all this happened” he shrugs.
“I know you’re interested really” I roll my eyes before telling him bits and pieces about mine and Lucy’s conversation. I’m such a fucking girl.
Lucy's POV
“You’re what!?” Eleanor practically screams down the phone.
“Come on, Eleanor. It’s only one date. We probably won’t even make anything out of it” I sigh. I knew she’d freak out.
“That’s not the point, Lucy! You were so upset about what he did and now you’re just risking all that to happen again, after everything you’ve been through”
“I know but at least this way we either come out as friends or in a relationship. It’s a win win really” I shrug, trying to convince myself more than anyone.
“No, you either come out of it in a relationship where you’ll still hold a grudge against him, or you’ll come out as nothing. Being friends won’t work, Lucy. Are you crazy?” she gasps. “Why do you allow yourself to go back to someone who repeatedly hurts you?”
“You’ve been telling me to do what makes me happy for months now. I am doing something that’s making me happy whether I’ll regret it or not. I’m happy at the moment so we’ll just see how things go” I breathe.
“You’re making a huge mistake” she sighs and I can practically see her shaking her head.
“Well there’s only one way to find out isn’t there?” I shrug. “Look, I know you’re probably angry about having to call me every day to try and make me happy but I wouldn’t take any of that back. If it wasn’t for you, I would’ve probably moved school’s or something so don’t think your work hasn’t helped”
“No I’m just worried about what will come out of this. I’m kind of happy that you’re giving him another chance but I know you get lead on too easily. I feel like he’ll just hurt you again” she moans.
“Yeah, I know but I feel confident about this. You should’ve heard how he spoke to me before” I smile at the memory. God, I’m such a girl.
“Hold on a second, just let me throw up” she says sarcastically... I think.
“Eleanor” I chuckle.
“Well if it’s what you want to do then fine. But I hope you’re not just doing this to please him. Never forget how he treated you, Lucy” she warns me and I nod, not realising that she can’t see me.
“I won’t” I nod.
“And this doesn’t mean that me and him are ever going to be friends again”
“You never were” I laugh dryly.
“Touché”
“Anyway, I gotta go. I can smell food” I frown, smelling a hint of tomato sauce. I haven’t eaten since before I went to the cinema which was three hours ago.
She chuckles, “Bye”
“Bye” I smile, ending the call. I ruin downstairs and casually walk into the kitchen, peering over Mum’s shoulder to see her cooking spaghetti bolognaise, my favourite food in the whole entire world.
“It’s not done yet” she tells me, putting the lid back on the pan and turning to me. She frowns when she sees me and I realise I’m smiling like a maniac right now. “Why are you happy?”
“I’m not allowed to be happy now?” I raise an eyebrow.
“No, just... I haven’t seen you this happy in ages” she laughs dryly. I just roll my eyes. “Something happened with Conor then?”
“What?” my head shoots up and I look at her in shock.
“Well since you came back from the cinema you’ve not stopped smiling. I’m guessing either you’ve fallen for Jack or something’s happened between you and Conor”
“I’d never go out with Jack” I cringe at the thought. Don’t get me wrong, he’s very good looking and has an amazing personality but me and him is just a no go zone.
“So it’s Conor then” she smirks. Maybe it is. “Come on, tell me what happened”
Unsurprisingly, Mum’s... Let’s just say, shocked about Conor and I. She’s clear that me and him aren’t definitely getting back together but she’s still slightly concerned about me going through with this. She’s so upset with Conor after what he’s put me through but she knows he’s like, the best thing that’s ever happened to me so I wouldn’t say she’s angry at me giving him a second chance. She knows what Conor’s like under the whole ‘bad boy’ act which is why she’s a bit more laid back about the situation. But same as Eleanor, she told me to keep in mind what he did before making any final decisions about our relationship. Mum’s still fuming about how Conor’s treated me though.
Of course I’m happy that Conor and I are going on a ‘date’ but I still feel like nothing’s going to come out of it. I don’t know if it’s best to just move on or go try and get things back to how they used to be.
“Anyway, your Dad and I will be going to that work do and staying in the hotel next door to it tonight, so don’t answer the door to anybody and please don’t give me a reason to come home early” Mum informs me. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The only reason they’re staying in a hotel is because they’ll be drinking and obviously can’t take the hour drive home. That’s illegal...
She’s only running me through these rules because I brought her home early from London. Believe me Mum, it was an accident and a lesson well learnt.
“Oh yeah, okay” I roll my eyes.
“I’m warning you, Lucy. We’re leaving in about an hour so I want you on your best behaviour” she points her finger at me which I politely slap out of the way.
“I’m not five” I scoff.
“We’ll be back at around ten or eleven tomorrow morning, okay?”
“Yep, tell me when you’re going” I smile. I make my way back into my room after eating my tea and stop in front of my mirror to sort out my hair. I double turn in the mirror to see Jack sat on my bed.
“Oh my god!” I gasp, turning around and seeing him roll his head back in laughter.
“As if you didn’t see me!” he cries, holding his stomach. I angrily walk over to him and punch his arm.
“You idiot! Why are you here!?” I snap.
“I’ve heard stories about you, I wanted to talk” he smirks, wiping away a few tears of laughter.
“This will be the third time I’ve done this in the past hour” I roll my eyes. “Did you climb through the window?”
“Yeah, I missed doing it” he shrugs. “Thought I could surprise you too”
“You succeeded on that one” I huff, tying my hair into a pony tail and sitting down next to him. “You haven’t climbed through my room since like, November”
“I know, right!?” he says enthusiastically.
“You know something Jack? There are these things called phones which means you don’t have to come out of your way to talk to someone, you can just give each other a quick call”
He rolls his head back in laughter, “I could’ve done but this option seemed more appealing”
“Yeah, I bet it did” I frown. I nearly had a heart attack but hey ho.
“Anyway, I thought we could have a sleepover” he smiles.
“Yep, sneak into my room and invite yourself to sleep. Casual” I tease. He’s done it plenty of times before and it hasn’t bothered me. In fact, I’m thankful when he does it.
“Don’t pretend you don’t love it” he smirks, so I roll my eyes.
-
The phone ringing makes me shoot out of my sleep like it was an earthquake drill. I scream because the ringing phone conveniently fit into the nightmare I was just having about people coming to kill me whenever I answered the phone.
“What? What’s happening?” Jack shoots up out of bed.
“The phone” I mumble. He gives me a ‘are you freaking joking’ look before lying back down on the bed.
“Freaking give me a heart attack over a freaking cold caller” I hear him mutter under his breath as I get to my feet to answer the house phone.
I make my way out of the room and try and go downstairs as quickly as possible so the phone doesn’t go off before I get there.
“You better be dying or in serious pain to call at this ridiculous hour” I scowl as soon as I pick up the phone, not even caring about who’s on the other line. God knows what time it is but it’s pitch black outside so I’d doubt it’s a healthy time to be getting up at. Jack and I stayed up until 1am when we were too tired to even communicate with each other. Pretty unusual of us to go to bed so ‘early’ but we were both so tired.
“Hello to you too, Lucy!” Dad scoffs as he answers the phone.
“Hi, Dad” I sigh. “What do you want?”
“I’m just seeing how you’re doing”
“Are you freaking joking? I was just asleep” I moan. I was all tucked up in bed, nice and warm, until he decides to call at this hour in the morning to ask how I’m doing.
“Oh sorry, I thought you’d still be awake”
“Still be awake!?” I raise my voice slightly. I look over at the clock in the kitchen. “It’s three in the morning!”
“He just wanted to try out the hotel phone, Lucy” Mum takes over the phone call. They’re giving me a drunk phone call at 3:20am. I want to die.
“Oh my god” I moan, ending the call and storming back upstairs. I’m freaking fuming. “The cold caller was my drunk parents” I tell Jack as I get into my bed next to him, wrapping myself up in my cocoon I was in before.
“Aw, I missed it” he says monotonously.
“Night Jack”
“Yeah, night” he says, snoring seconds later.
