Chapter 17

05:13, 31 March 2021

James had been right. I had a big day. I had to deal a lot with the police, in a hospital gown, aside from identifying the guy who stole all my stuff. James had went back to my apartment, grabbed me a duffle bag full of clothes to choose from. "I trust your choices in fashion, James." I teased looking through them all.

"This isn't just for today. You're staying with me for a week." James said matter of factly. I raised my eyebrow.

"Really? And what about when I'm traveling with Alexa?" I asked him as he must've forgotten that part. James shook his head.

"The board post-poned the commercial shoot to next month. They heard about the accident and they wanted you to be in the best of health before you started working again." James informed me. I sighed disappointed. "You're still going and it's happening, don't get too bummed out there, little one." James said kissing my cheek as I sat on the hospital bed.

I picked out yoga pants, a two sizes too big hoodie which would've been six sizes too big for James even, and slip on shoes. "Perfect." James smiled taking the duffle bag off the bed and zipping it up. I hopped off the bed as James turned to face the wall. I got dressed and was finally happy to be warm.

"Awe, makeup bag." I whispered sadly. James then opened the duffle bags side pocket and handed me my makeup bag. I smiled. "Thought of everything?" I asked. James smiled with a wink. I sat on the bed and did my makeup just enough to hide the bruised left side of my face and give me eyelashes and glossy lips. I handed the bag to James as he put it away. He then pulled out a brush, but then frowned.

"Doc's coming to take the big bandages off and is going to check out the staples." He said. I gasped reaching back gently and touching the gaze around my head with my finger tips .

"I have staples in my head?" I asked. He nodded. "You are sure they didn't shave part of my head?!" I asked thinking he lied to me. He nodded, slightly amused that I would be upset about this most of all.

"I made sure they didn't shave any part of that gorgeous blonde hair." He promised. I glared at him.

"Better be telling the truth. I'm finding out where you sleep at night." I said. James winked. We waited about twenty minutes and then the doctor came in.

He did take off the bandages and checked on the staples. He put a cream on them so they wouldn't get infected and told me to come back in six weeks. Then we were free to go. James brushed my rats nest hair and actually braided it pretty well too. I sighed once we were in James's car. I felt safe in there as well. I fell asleep on the way to the police station, with my head on the window and my hand in James's.

"Honey, wake up." James said shaking my arm. I woke up slowly and squinted at the brightness.

"No." I decided and closed my eyes again. James chuckled.

"C'mon. We will get you something real for you to eat afterwards. Then we will go to my house and then you'll be free to sleep as long as you desire." James said. I groaned and sat up. James chuckled.

"What?" I asked. James then put down the visor and I saw I had a giant line going down my face from the window. "Don't laugh at me." I complained. James sucked in his top and bottom lips to keep from laughing any more, and looked out the window.

"Babe, come on." He said rubbing my back as the line faded shortly. I opened the door and got out. The morning breeze wasn't very enjoyable either.

"Why is it freezing?" I asked James as we entered the police station.

"You were freezing in the hospital the whole time. It was really cold in there." James explained pointing to an officer who stood at the sight of James and me.

"Hello, Miss Allen, if you would come with me. Mr. Maslow, you're welcome to wait at my desk." The officer informed. I nodded hesitantly. James kissed my temple and then then waited as I followed the officer.

"Now this is a one way mirror, you can see them, they can't see you. You're perfectly safe." He said closing the door behind us as I stood quietly staring at what you see in movies, where the line of guys come out and they get measured in height with the lines on the wall. I watched as all the guys stood still.

"Just let me know if you see him. They are labeled by the numbers around their necks. If you believe you see him, we will have him step forward and you can confirm it is him." The officer said. I nodded and then took a step closer to the window between me and a bunch of blue eyed and dark haired guys with beards. I looked at all their eyes. I knew his eyes. Shit, there he was. I looked at his face, yeah that was him. His number, seven, the last one.

"Uhm, seven." I told the officer. He nodded and got on a his walkie talkie.

"Number seven, over." He told the other end. Then on the speaker inside the room.

"Number seven, step forward." The man said. He stepped forward looking angry. I took a step closer and could see the evil in his eyes I saw that night.

"Is that him Miss?" The officer asked. I nodded.

"Yes that's him." I whispered staring at him.

"Alright thank you ma'am. You're free to go." The officer said. I nodded. He opened the door for me as I exited and tried to nonchalantly walk quickly to James. James was leaned on the desk of the officer with his arms across his chest.

"Hey! Did you see him?" James asked. I nodded grabbing his hand.

"Let's get out of here please." I said as I pulled James behind me. We got outside and I felt calmer.

"You okay?" James asked. I nodded.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Let's just go home please." I pleaded. James looked confused.

"Sure we'll get you something to eat and then we will go straight home." James said pulling me into a hug. I agreed and we headed off.

James stopped at Starbucks for himself and got me a Frappicino. Then he left me in the car as he ran into the grocery store. He came out with eight bags, which made me laugh. He sat back down and he smiled.

"What?" He asked. I giggled looking at the back seat.

"You're so domesticated now, Maslow." I teased him. He smirked.

"Only for you, remember that." He said backing out. "Besides I didn't know what you'd be in the mood for." He winked. I giggled and curled up as small as I could get in James's car. We then were outside James's house. It was just as fancy as Carlos's house, but a little smaller. I had only seen it once the night James stayed with me, but during a storm and from the outside. I got out and checked out the view from the backyard as well. What was up with canyons? Everyone wanted a canyon in their backyard. Then it hit me.

"You live across the canyon from Carlos and Lexi?" I gasped. James shrugged grabbing all eight bags of groceries. I walked over and tried grabbing something.

"I got these, grab the duffle bag and then we will call up Carlos and Alexa so they can bring your car over and Oliver." James said smiling. I gasped again and felt an odd pleasure in wanting to see Oliver. I followed James to the door as he stood looking defeated.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"The keys are in my pocket." He sighed. I giggled.

"Which pocket?" I asked. He nodded towards his left front pocket. I then got in front of him and reached into his pocket pulling out the keys.

"You could've warned me you were getting all frisky with me." James said sarcastically. I giggled and unlocked the door.

"You loved it." I said taking a step to the side to see James smirking. He lead the way into the house as I marveled at how much it wasn't like Carlos's from the inside. While Carlos's was grand and marbled, James's was concrete with an urban loft feel to it. The kitchen was modern but the stairwell looked rustic and metallic. It fit James's style perfectly.

"Wow, so not what I expected." I told James looking around his place as I set the bag on the floor behind the couch and James put away groceries.

"What did you expect?" He asked. I shrugged looking up at the balcony where the stairs led.

"I'm not sure. I expected carpet at least." I said with a grin. James smiled. He stopped what he was doing and walked over to me. He grabbed my hand and pulled me along to follow him. We walked up the stairs to the balcony and then through a door where I assumed his bedroom was, nope. A living room with hard wood floors, a white rug, white sofa and a very show room feel, then he lead me down the stairs from the living room to a door at the bottom of the stairs. I had a feeling it would've been a basement in a normal persons house, but I was wrong when it came to James. He opened the door to a huge master suite. The bed was sheeted in all white with a canopy tied up around it. There was a fireplace, with a big flat screen above it, a sitting area for two by the giant wall of windows, and an open door leading into what looked like a huge master bathroom.

"Wow." I said wandering off on my own in the bedroom. James stood still and watched me. Immediately I went for the bed. I smirked at James and jumped on it making him laugh. It was like million little James hugs all over my body. "Oh my God I'm in love with your bed." I said my voice muffled by the comforter. James walked over and sat gently on the edge by my head. I sat up and got on my knees and looked into James's eyes.

"What?" He asked.

"I'm just trying to figure you out completely." I whispered. He smiled.

"What's the fun in that? No surprises make a relationship dull." James said reaching up to play with the braid he had done earlier.

"I think I need to shower. I haven't in three days since ya know I woke up yesterday. It's a little embarrassing." I told James. He smiled.

"Alright, I'll go grab your bag." He smiled. I nodded and then lied back down on the bed. In a minute, James was back with my duffle bag. He had even grabbed my toiletries.

"You seriously are Superman." I whispered grabbing them out of the bag. James kissed my cheek.

"I'll be in the kitchen when you're done." He told me. I nodded and walked into the giant bathroom which was as big as my apartment. There was a jacuzzi tub the size of my car and a shower that had no door because it was a walk in.

I showered, even though I wanted to soak in the jacuzzi tub, but decided not to. I got dressed in my same outfit from earlier and felt brand new. I walked out bare foot from the bathroom and felt the carpet in James's room. I wanted it in blanket form, it was so soft. I walked upstairs and then downstairs to the kitchen. James was cooking something on the stove top while talking on the phone.

"Hey!" He smiled at me. He then continued talking. "Yeah she's out and looks so much better." He said stirring what looked like noodles and vegetables.

"My shampoo stung my staples." I said plucking a grape from the bowl on the counter and popping in my mouth. James made a face.

"Is that suppose to happen?" He asked me. I shrugged.

"I'm not a doctor." I laughed. James stopped stirring and turned off the stove. I could hear the other person talking on the other end of the call but I couldn't put a face to it.

"Alright. Come over any time after four." James said to the other person. I looked at the clock on the stove, it was one. I sat at the bar stool and leaned my head on my arms on the counter. James watched me adoringly. "Alright. Yeah I think he'll be excited to see her. Yeah, okay bye." James said hanging up his cell and setting it on the counter.

"Who was that?" I asked. James walked over to the other side of the counter.

"Carlos, they're bringing Oliver over and then I'm giving them your Soul key so they can bring over your car." James said. I smiled. I missed my kitty.

"Yay!" I said smiling.

"But for now, lunch is served." He said smiling.
