Chapter 2

13:30, 26 September 2025

Pomni looked over at Jax, not taking her hands off the gun, but not pointing it at him.

Jax held throwing knifes, standing in a similar situation.

Pomni finally set the gun down with a sigh. "Team?"

Jax frowned, aiming a knife towards her. She quickly bent down to grab her gun and ducked out of the way as a dagger whizzed past her ear.

"I'll take that as a no." She pointed the gun up and shakily shot it at him.

It hit his arm, but he didn't disappear.

His eyes widened as he grabbed his arm. Blood seeped through his hand and down his arm.

"OH MY GOD, WE CAN &$#@%&$ BLEED!?" She dropped her gun and rushed towards him.

"#$&@! I DIDN'T KNOW WE COULD BLEED! IT HURTS!" He yelled, panicked.

Pomni scoured through the backpacks for bandages.

She finally found some and wrapped it around his arm, shaking.

Jax winced, his eyes teary with pain. "I swear, whoever suggested this is dead."

Pomni sighed, shaking her head. "I'm sorry. I didn't know that would happen."

She tried to hug him and he shrugged her off. "Don't think this means anything. We're still not friends."

Pomni looked away to hide the hurt in her eyes. "Right. Sorry."

They sat in silence for a moment before Jax sat up, expressionless. "Well, if we can... presumably actually kill each other, there's no use in not teaming up. Let's find the rest and warn them before they go off shooting one another in the head."

Pomni cringed, quickly sitting up, grabbing their food, and following him into the woods where Zooble and Gangle had run off.

She just hoped it wasn't too late.

Gangle walked quickly behind Zooble, her bow loaded and pointed toward the ground.

"Do you think the others have already found one another- AAAAAAAAA!"

The ground gave beneath them and the plummeted down a hole.

Gangle landed on torn grass and leaves, but the yelling beside her indicated that Zooble wasn't as lucky.

"&$#@! GANGLE! I'M BLEEDING! WHAT THE $&#@!?"

Gangle rushed over to find Zooble clutching their knee, which was very clearly scratched and bleeding. "No! Oh my god! WE CAN BLEED!?"

"HA! WE GOT YOU! AND IT ONLY TOOK TWO HOURS!" Ragatha called from the top of the pit.

A loud rustling sound came from the other direction and Pomni's head poked down. She winced.

"I guess you guys already figured it out?"

Gangle nodded, still resting her hand across Zooble's back, who was now loudly muttering something incoherent to themselves, glaring at the ground.

"Figured what out?" Ragatha asked, no longer triumphant.

Jax held up a bandaged arm. "We can apparently bleed in this adventure. Considering Zooble just fell about ten stories, they're probably not doing too great."

Ragatha flinched. "Oh, $@&#."

"Can you guys help us out of here and get me one of those bandages?" Zooble said loudly.

Ragatha and Jax reached their hands out, and with Gangle's help, they both managed to climb out.

"CAINE, WE'RE GOING TO &@$#&@$# KILL YOU." Zooble yelled as Gangle quietly wrapped the bandages around their knee.

Caine's voice filled the woods around them. "Next suggestion, shall we? Let's see, 'A quiet adventure where we just talk and relax, like the stargazing one, but longer.' Pomni, I swear, you are the most boring person to ever exist. Fine, then, have your way." A loud snap filled the air and they all suddenly teleported to a quiet beach instantaneously.

Their wounds were all healed, and they all had sunglasses.

Jax and Pomni immediately put theirs on and grinned at each other. Kinger followed suit, and everyone else set them to the side.

Jax looked over at Pomni again and something in his expression broke as he frowned and looked away. Zooble, Gangle, and Ragatha gave one another a knowing look, eyebrows raised.

"What is up with you guys?" Zooble asked, catching their attention.

"What do you mean?" Pomni asked.

"Like, one second you guys are hugging, and the next, you're glaring at each other."

They both frowned, glancing at each other before turning back to Zooble.

"Spill. We're supposed to talk in this adventure anyways, according to you."

Pomni frowned and looked away. "We... kinda had a fight."

Jax sighed. "She choked me because she's delusional."

"Sorry, she did what?" Ragatha asked, holding in a laugh.

"Whatever it is, you guys should work it out. You were practically inseparable for, like, a week. You shouldn't let a fight get in the way of that. You care about each other." Zooble said, getting up and joining Gangle in the water.

Ragatha nodded and walked away, leaving them alone enough to have a private talk.

"You know, in a way, Zooble's right." Pomni said, finally looking over at Jax.

Jax looked over, glowering, but before he could say anything, she continued. "We were really close for a week. You told me so much about yourself. We shouldn't let a fight get in the way of that."

His eyes narrowed, staring down at her, but her calm face didn't waver as she waited for an answer.

"I still don't care as much as Zooble says I do."

She gulped. "Really?"

There was a long, uncomfortable pause as he seemed to mull this over, staring into the distance.

"You know, I did tell you a lot about myself." He smiled. "I guess if we're not friends, you could hold that against me."

Pomni didn't smile. "You... you really don't care?"

He frowned again, thinking. "I... I guess I do. You just... remind me of someone, someone I lost a while ago."

He whirled his head to glare at her. "You better not tell anyone I told you this."

She smiled. "Wouldn't dream of it."

He sighed, turning away, and there was a long pause before he continued. "Every time I look at you, it makes me think of them. It hurts."

She rested a hand over his, letting him take a deep breath as he thought. "You know, I lied to you."

She raised an eyebrow, and he turned to her, his face not sad, but...

It was an emotion she didn't know if she could name.

"When you asked me what I would do if you abstracted tomorrow?

"I couldn't just move on. It would stick with me, and I might not be friends with anyone else again."

He smiled.

"I guess I liked you because you were still there, even when I pushed you away."

A quiet pause, where they both just smiled.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is...

"Thank you."

Pomni smiled, wiping a tear away.

"Aw, did I make you cry?" He asked, grinning.

She said nothing as she leaned forward and hugged him.

He paused for a moment, dumbfounded, before he smiled and hugged her back.

"Thank you."
