7. Keya
08:24, 7 January 2021I’m nine weeks in.
After I left the clinic and sat on Lily’s car that she let me borrow for my first check-up, I decided to contemplate on the decision I’m about to make. Clearly, the father of this child doesn’t want the responsibility. And if so, I don’t want him to recognize the baby anymore.
He insulted the heck out of me, and yeah! I get it. I deserve it for hooking up with a stranger and that’s why I have decided to never ever see and ask for that man’s help anymore.
Honestly, I need me mum right now.
I want to ask her why she kept me and how did she managed to still get in touch with me Dad and introduced me to him. But I just can’t.
I don’t want to be a disappointment to her! I don’t want anybody in our small town in Edinburgh to know that I got knocked up just like me mum.
I have seen how many people judged her for being a single-parent raising three kids with different fathers. Not that I hate what she had done, I love her beyond anything else. She is a strong, wonderful, independent and loving women. She’s so full of love that despite of the struggles she faced just to raise us all on her own, she kept us without asking for any favours from our fathers.
And that is why I didn’t scheduled any abortion, because I don’t want to get one.
I placed my hands on my flat belly feeling the small heartbeat of an innocent little humanoid forming inside. I’ve already done so much for them, my family will surely forgive me once they found out that I am pregnant.
As of now, I am finally choosing myself and my own decisions.
Just like me mum, I’m keeping it.

After I dismissed my ten a.m. class, I head straight to the teacher’s lounge to meet my friends for lunch. My first week in teaching in the university full-time have been great so far, teaching Advance English to higher level students seems very effective in lifting my spirit up.
Thank goodness that my schedules isn’t too hectic anymore unlike before which is absolutely great because accordingly, pregnancy is very delicate and that therefore you need to be able to relax.
Yes, I may still feel stressed due to school works but at least I am not juggling two jobs anymore, right?
“How’s your classes?” Amanda asked when all of us finally settled on the table with our food.
“Great!” I replied. “My senior students tend to love me for having a British accent to be honest.”
“Of course they are.” Jessy inserted. “They’ve been wanting to be your students ever since you came here. Because aside from your sexy accent, you are a gorgy hun as what you call it. Seriously, all male students in here wants to tap you for looking exactly like young Nicole Kidman.”
“Oh shut up. I am not!” I said. “They will surely stop thinking about tapping me if they found out that I am pregnant.”
“Speaking of that,” Lily chimed in. “Are you already sure about not bothering Tyler anymore?”
“Urgh! Why do you have to remind me of that asshole?” I said eating a piece of carrot. My friends already know that I am keeping the baby and they all knew how the man insulted me. “I mean, what’s the point? He clearly doesn’t want the kid. Besides, I’m fine. I can raise this kid all by myself.”
“What about your family?” Amanda inserted.
“I’m going home on Christmas.” I said. I’m not sure how will they react but, they do need to know.
But only when I’m already in there. I still don’t want to stress myself at the moment, I want to be careful with this baby.
“What will you do then once you give birth? You’re working full-time Keya, and you’re also studying.” Lily reminded me. I know, I have been thinking about that too.
However, that is still seven months from now. There’s going to be a lot of things to happen in the span of seven months. I can still figure this out myself.
“I’ll figure it out soon.” I only replied.
When four p.m. strikes, I already felt way too exhausted. For the first time this week, I left the campus with a throbbing headache. I still have to go to grocers store because I already run out of food in my apartment. Plus, I am craving for some gummy worms and ketchup chips these days. Among all food on the food triangle I don’t know why I crave for those things. Despite of the headache, I still went to grab for some groceries.
While browsing through the shelves, I pulled a huge bag of gummy worms and decided to eat it while I shop around. When I reached the frozen section, I suddenly saw a very familiar figure.
Urgh! Among all the places why do I have to see him here?
It’s bloody Seguin!
I immediately went back into my tracks right before he sees me but I was already too late. He saw me first.
“Hey, Keya!” He called out but I just ignored him. However, he was fast and decided to block my way. “Are you seriously ignoring me now?”
I looked on him raising my eyebrows. I seriously hate him for insulting me last week but I don’t know why part of me feels so happy that I get to see his beautiful face again. He’s currently wearing a black jumper paired with a grey sweatpants and an inverted black baseball hat. He’s probably not on his best look at the moment but he still looks so gorgeous.
Peace in hell!
I don’t know why I suddenly felt the urge of hugging him despite of the fact that I hate him for again, insulting me.
Jesus, baby if you’re the reason behind this, please stop. You’re not helping your mama out here!
“What do you want Seguin?” I firmly said maintaining my cool and pretended that his present doesn’t affect me.
“Keya, right? I’m just asking if you’re still following me.”
I literally drop my jaw. Seriously, this guy is unbelievable. What a huge asshole!
“Oh, is following you means going on the opposite way when seeing you?” I remarked. “You’re not so full of yourself, aren’t you Seguin?”
“Did you already get a paternity test?”
“And why do you care? You’re not interested with the baby anyway. Now get out of my face.” I said and pushed the cart fully intending to hit him but he stopped it using his one hand.
“I didn’t said that!” He hissed. “I want a paternity test.”
“No need.” I replied.
Call me stupid and I won’t be surprised because I already know I am ever since I decided to keep the baby. Smart girls would have taken the abortion but I didn’t because I am not a hypocrite!
“So you finally admit that that child isn’t mine?”
He’d done it again.
“After insulting me? Even if you’re the true father of this baby, I will never ask for your help again.”
My mum raised me and my siblings without asking for our father’s help. And she did that through only working at a bakery, if she can do it, so will I!
He is so annoying! Damn it. Why do I have to fall for those green eyes and those gorgeous face?
I walked past him heading to the cashier’s area when I suddenly felt pain on my belly. I hold unto the nearest shelves because I suddenly felt like I am about to fell. The pain on my belly causes me to feel dizzy and weak.
“Jesus! Keya you’re bleeding!” Seguin said running towards me and just after he said those words I looked on my uniform and I spotted a blood in there.
I panicked right away. “No, no. Not my baby no!”
And that’s the only words I have said right before everything went black.
“Please, not my baby!”
