Vi

02:11, 30 April 2026

I felt something warm being poured down my throat, I coughed before reluctantly swallowing. My eyes opened as I jumped, feeling energy sparking violently through my body. I screamed before opening my eyes to see someone holding my face, calming me down. I looked and saw my mother's face at first, but after a minute my eyesight cleared and I saw it wasn't her but it was Caitlyn.

I pushed her away harder than necessary, freaked out that I hadn't realized how eerily similar Caitlyn looked to my mother. I winced as my head pounded, I felt for my wound to find it stopped bleeding, I saw we were in Powder and I's old home. We'd lived here with my parents before the war happened, after that we went with Vander and never came back. I thought this would've been the perfect place to come so no one would find us.

I remembered passing out after I climbed down here and Caitlyn hauled me in the little room I used to call home. I saw Powder skipping and giggling childishly around the room and I saw Mom looking down on me to make sure I was okay. They seemed so real, god it was just a dream but it felt so realistic. The loss of blood made me faint and I woke up to the painful jolt my body gave, I sat up feeling relieved that I wasn't hallucinating from the pain anymore.

Caitlyn turned away from me embarrassed, "We need you back on your feet. What was the name Sevika gave you? Jinx?"

I kept feeling my wound, shocked that the bleeding magically stopped. Caitlyns question registered in my head and I felt my head spin, "Right, Jinx. How could I forget?" I shook my head, still trying to understand all the information I was given today. This was too damn much, the memories hit too hard waltzing down here after years of being away and now realizing my sister was like family with the person who started all this?

Caitlyn said something about being more careful before she leaned against one of the metal legs of the water tank above us, the whole thing shook sounding like it was one wrong move away from collapsing. Dust fell from top to bottom, revealing the height chart my mother kept for us during our time here. Our names written neatly on the metal, Caitlyn brushed her fingers over it before looking at the back wall where Powder used to doodle with her art supplies she was given for her birthday.

"You used to live here. Who's Powder?" She asked looking over at me, she had genuine interest written on her face that stopped me from snapping at her.

I opened and shut my mouth like a fish before saying, "My sister I thought she died with... But no she didn't. I have to try and find her." I stared at the ground, trying to figure out a plan on how to get to her.

Caitlyn asked apparently without thinking, "How do you not know if your sister is dead or alive?"

My eyes snapped to hers, anger coursing through my veins making me stand while snapping at her. "It's hard to check up on people from inside a concrete cell."

"What, you don't have parents?" She asked questioningly, I shook my head in disbelief as I walked up to her.

"No! Actually they were killed by enforcers." I said glaring at the girl, she gasped and her eyes turned from shock to sympathetic. I was about to dump the rest of my anger on her, but I heard something clatter from outside the room. I turned listening for any other sounds, hearing voices and footsteps coming from outside the door. I glared, marching towards the door and throwing it open, I stopped in my tracks when I saw Silco holding bottles of Shimmer towards people who pleaded from the ground. He teased them and held them closer to the beggars, before moving it away from them as two of his men behind him smiled cruel at his antics.

He looked at me chuckling dryly, "Vanders prodigy. I've regretted that we never had the opportunity to speak." He said blankly, as one of his men held a purple bottle up over his shoulder. A cowering man whose face I couldn't see grabbed it quickly before going back to hiding in the shadows.

I huffed angrily standing in front of the door to block Caitlyn from their sights, walking towards the asshole, "What have you done with my sister?"

He dropped the bottles to the beggars, the two growling as they fought for the bottles. Watching them drink savagely he answered, "I've freed her. Candidly, I thought you were the prize of your secondhand family. But Jinx...oh. She's more than I ever imagined." The two men grew five times the size they originally were, purple veins bulging on their dead skin.

I shook with anger and hatred as I spit, "I'm gonna find her and erase whatever fucked-up delusions you put in her head. But first I'm gonna bring your bullshit empire down all around you."

The monsters stalked towards me as he said calmly, "You don't know your limits, girl. It's what got Vander killed. What drove your sister away. And it's why I'm here right now."

I shrugged an idea popping into my head as the two beasts growled inhuman like, getting closer and closer. "Yeah well..." I put up my fists, taking a deep breath, "You talk too much." I turned and sped towards the metal pole, punching it as hard as I could making the entire thing shake. I grabbed Caitlyn, running towards where we landed after jumping down from the ledge and started to climb. Before Silco could move the water tank groaned and started falling towards them, I focused on getting out of here instead of watching it crush them.

Caitlyn had beat me up the hill, pulling me to the landing before we both jumped up instantly racing away from the men below. Tears brimmed my eyes as I pumped my arms, running as fast as I could. The home I had with my parents is destroyed, I had to. If I didn't he would've let those things kill us both, my hatred for him multiplied as I ran faster. I slid down the tube that would lead us to the streets of the Undercity, Caitlyn right behind me. I slid down too fast, flying out the tube and landing on my feet bumping into someone who cursed at me. I pushed him back, tension building up in my shoulders before telling him to fuck himself and flipping him off.

I noticed something in the corner of my vision, looking up as Caitlyn tried pulling me towards her to keep running. I gasped seeing bright blue smoke coming from a tall building, smoke as blue as Powders hair.

The lantern. It's her.

She remembered what I said, she wants me to find her.

I was so shocked, I let Caitlyn pull me away from the spot I was rooted in but I stopped her and turned our direction towards the blue smoke. I ran and ran, hearing Caitlyn behind me as we got towards the building the smoke came from. I didn't hesitate before jumping onto the side and scaling up it to the top, I reached the landing to see a tall girl with Powders blue hair trailing down her back in two long braids. She angrily throwing the lantern off the side of the building before looking at something in her hand. I climbed up, walking hesitantly towards her before whispering, "Powder?"

She tensed before slowly turning towards me, her facial expression matching my sisters when we were kids and she had looked at me in a daze. I walked up to her, a sob working its way up my throat as she said my name in question. The tears broke free and streamed down my face as I opened my arms, running towards her, "Oh Powder!"

I hugged her, relaxing as her sweet scent filled my nose she stilled beneath my touch before letting out a sob and hugging me back. She held me tightly as I held the back of her head, pulling her back so I could look at her. "I'm so sorry Powder. I...I tried to come back. I promise, I did. But I...I got arrested."

I wiped her tears as she whispered in disbelief, "Marcus?"

I didn't know who that was but I didn't care, "I don't know. I...It doesn't matter. I just- I never thought I'd get to see you again." I said before pulling her back in for a hug, I felt her breathing heavily as she stuttered.

"A-Are you real?" She whispered, I pulled back placing my hands on her shoulders.

"Yes, yes I'm real. It's me, Vi. It's me Pow, I'm your sister." I said trying to make her understand so she wouldn't explode and run away on me.

Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed, "Things changed when you left. I changed. We-."

I started talking before she finished so I could reassure her, but my mind started running a mile a minute. We? Sevika had talked too about someone else but I hadn't listened, who else was she talking about? "I know, Pow-Pow, I know. You did what you had to do to survive. Me too, it's okay. What matters is we're together again." I wrapped my arms around her for a third time, not fully believing she was here with me. She let out another sob as her arms latched around me, she started saying something but I heard footsteps from behind me. She looked up, pushing me back and grabbing the machine gun she had strapped around her shoulder pointing it at a confused Caitlyn.

Fuck.

"Who's she?" She asked me, not taking her eyes off Caitlyns frozen figure halfway up the steps.

"Who are you?" Caitlyn asked, her accent heavy as her tone grew defensive.

I walked in front of Powder forcing her attention back on me as I held up my hands, "It's okay, she's a..friend." I hesitated, knowing this would make my sister angrier than she already was, Powders expression dropped in disbelief.

"Sevika wasn't lying. You're with an enforcer?" She gestured with her gun to me before aiming back at Caitlyn, her foot brushing against a...glowing rock?

"Your sister is Jinx!" Caitlyn said shocked, I grew nervous feeling like something bad was gonna start.

"Caitlyn, just listen, we can work this out." I said facing her, trying to talk slowly so maybe she'd get it through her thick skull that she needs to shut up.

"This is a trick, you're playing me!" Powder said before whipping her gun to our left pointing it at the air, "Shut up! I'm in no mood." She said angrily.

"We didn't say anything." Caitlyn said quietly as she creeped closer, I wanted to smack her or push her off the building. She needed to shut. Up. Now.

"Powder it's okay!" I said reassuringly when Powder turned back towards the enforcer, snapping at her and looking ready to blow the trigger any moment.

"Stop calling me that. It's Jinx now, Powder fell down a well." She looked at me in sarcasm, talking to me hard and angry.

"You're not a Jinx. God, I never should have-"

I started but she cut me off point the end of the gun right under my chin, screaming, "Stop talking to me like I'm a child! Was that why you came? For that stupid stone?" She dryly laughed, the Powder I know and love slipping away as she grew mad.

I looked over at the glowing rock lying on the ground, "What? No, I don't even know what that is. I-." I looked back at my sister, but I didn't see her. All I saw was an angry girl who looked like she was drowning in so many negative emotions, she looked like a whole different person.

She laughed maniacally, "You're a class act, sister. Sister. Thought I missed her. Bet you wouldn't miss her." She pulled a lever making the three ends of the gun spin in my face, but I pushed them away not scared of her.

"Powder I'm here for you, only you." I said with honesty in my voice, I walked towards her. I say Powder slipping through her psycho act, wanting to believe me which made me continue talking. "You can fire that thing if you want, but I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to abandon you again." I brushed her arm and she looked up at me with uncertainty.

Her head moved quickly in different directions before she grabbed at her forehead yelling, "Everyone shut up, I need to think. Do you hear that." She dropped her hand to hold onto her gun, looking around us. I stared at her confused as to why she was acting like this, before I heard it too.

Metal creaked from inside the big open pipes, along the wall behind me. I squinted my eyes towards them to see a figure floating on a glowing green board, he hovered as he watched over us. Powder didn't hesitate to start shooting blindly at him, he charged at us flying out of the pipes. Three others looking just like the first, emerged from the pipes flying all around us. I stood with my back against my sisters, looking back at her shocked to see she's engaged and ready to shoot anyone who gets near her. I hold up my fists as we turn in circles, watching the green lights on their boards zip by. One of them with a skull mask grew bold, flying around us right in front of Powders face making her pull the trigger aiming for him. When she missed and he came around towards me I punched the asshole in the face, sending him flying off his board and to the ground in front of me.

The guy stood up as I stalked towards him, ready to fight, he immediately came after me. I blocked his sloppy punches easily as I heard Powders gun firing nonstop. When she started turning towards us my opponent jumped out of the way, while I simply covered my face with my arms. As I dropped them I stared at my sister in horror as she laughed like she was enjoying this, biting her lip as she continued shooting her gun. I froze in terror, but quickly jumped back when I saw my opponent jump back up coming at me hard.

I punched him nonstop, but after he got a few himself I gave him an uppercut sending him to the floor. I turned back towards the girl I once knew, smashing one of the masked things with the front of her gun. A mad look in her eye as she went at him, not caring to stop, I felt sick to my stomach as I watched her, "Powder." I said, my heart pounding violently.

She's right, she has changed. Far more than I have, I didn't know what to think about this new version of her but I had a bad feeling as I looked at her. She knocked a guy off his board, shooting bullets at him before he jumped back on flying away. If I wasn't so caught up in watching her, I would've heard my opponent get up.

I started towards her, saying her name again hoping she'd hear me. But I was silenced by the end of something hard hitting the side of my head, I felt my vision go black as I fell to the floor.

I whispered Powders name one last time before I lost consciousness.
