21:25, 26 December 2019Brett ate quickly and before Eddy was even halfway through the meal he had brought out his laptop, researching different bakeries. After the third call with no luck, Eddy felt the ball of guilt in the bottom of his stomach grow.
How had he even managed to fuck up something that important? The cake, a main piece of any wedding. How didn't this look to Brett, being so careless with the planning? And now he had left him to deal with it?
"Hi, is this Carla's bakery? Yes? Great, this is Brett Yang..."
Eddy couldn't make himself listen to what likely would be another rejection. He stood up and grabbed both his and Brett's plate to put in the sink. He'd deal with the dishes later. Right now he wanted to go to sleep and not wake up until after the wedding should have been. He shuffled to the bedroom and curled up on the bed.
He wasn't sure when he had fallen asleep, but he woke abruptly when he felt Brett's hand on his cheek."Shit, sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep," Eddy gasped, after being suddenly pulled out of sleep. "I'll go do the dishes."
"The dishes will have to wait, love. We have to go," Brett said with a small smile. "We've got a cake conaultation in an hour."
Eddy stared at him. "You're joking? Someone actually have time to make cake for us?" he asked, ready to cry again. "You're serious?"
Brett kissed him quickly and smiled wider. "Well, turns out the owner of Carla's bakery actually is a fan of ours. I don't know if you remember the cake someone made and posted on the subreddit like a year ago? Well, it's that girl. She's really good."
"Thank you, Brett, for fixing it," Eddy whispered, tears finally spilling over. Brett pulled him into a hug."Hey, of course babe. That's my job, to make you happy. Especially after everything you've done for me."
Eddy hid his face in Brett's shoulder and took a deep breath to be able to speak. "I love you, Brett. I'm sorry I fucked this up. I love you so much."
"Don't apologize, love. You couldn't have known he was going to be an asshole. Let's freshed up and get going, yeah?" Brett said with a bright smile, brushing some of Eddy's bangs away from his face.
"Okay," Eddy nodded, shuffling off the bed and rubbing his eyes. He felt groggy from sleeping still, and the excitement about the cake was still a whole lot quieter than it had been.
"I'll go make us some coffee to bring with us," Brett said, ruffling Eddy's hair before disappearing into the kitchen.
Eddy looked after him, seeing how excited he was just by the way he walked. In one way, it gave him butterflies in his stomach to see how happy he was about something for the wedding. It also made him feel bad about not being excited in the same way. It was hard to believe that it would work out.
