01:37, 15 April 2021Kageyama kept on turning around in bed, uncomfortable.Oikawa and Iwaizumi were already asleep by now, and not by any stretch of his imagination he could tell how long he had been turning around, trying to sleep. He did want to sleep, he really did, but he just couldn't. He always had to think of the next day. His first shooting day at Normada. Maybe if he stayed awake long enough....maybe the next day wouldn't come?
Then again: how did he even get into this situation? He wouldn't survive if he was to get criticism from all the people in that Branche. Silly, he knew, but it was true.He never thought he could even be a model. It was just a lucky punch he made with Beautycorp. And now he was supposed to model in a new collection for the whole world to see??
He knew that modeling was the whole purpose of their trip to America.Yes, but couldn't the hard part have waited for at least a bit longer? Weren't they supposed to stay there for two whole weeks? Why did he have to start doing his job on the second day? Now, out of all times, when he found two new friends. Now, out of all times, when he was finally unconditionally happy with Oikawa and Iwaizumi.
Exactly! Oikawa and Iwaizumi! Why didn't they themselves model? They were both extremely good looking, and they had a great fashion sense! He was sure he could handle all the paper stuff. He would do anything, but he didn't want to model. He was afraid of hearing the people that work there degrade him, or criticize him.He was just new in the industry anyways. He searched for a comfortable position in bed.He had literally no modeling experience besides Beautycorp, and he didn't think that was appropriate enough to present oneself at a huge company like Normada.
If he messed up tomorrow, or better: later, his life would be over. And damn, was he frightened of messing up and doing a bad job. He knew he wouldn't be able to forgive himself, and no matter what his boyfriends said, they would be disappointed as well. He didn't want to disappoint them. Never in his life, and especially not with actions he did.
But was there a way to get out of that?Sure, he could pretend as if he had the strongest belly ache, but he knew that Oikawa would be sad if he didn't come.So no, disappointing Oikawa wasn't an option.
He sighed, and turned around. He'd just have to get it over with. But when he felt the weird feeling in his stomach again, he knew that something was going to happen. Something bad. He turned around again. At least he attempted to, but someone groaned.
"Tobio? What are you doing?" That was Hajime. His face flushed. He still thought, that Iwaizumi had a nice voice at night. It was about an octave lower than normally, and it was so raspy, it sent shivers down his spine.
"Uh- can't sleep." Kageyama said, looking at the ceiling, eyes wide.He felt his rapid heartbeat in his chest, now that he actually laid in bed without moving around.Iwaizumi turned to the little table next to the bed, and checked his phone for the time. He squinted his eyes shut at the sudden brightness of his phone, but his eyes quickly adjusted.
"What the heck? It's almost two am. Why are you still awake?" Iwaizumi now turned around to face Kageyama.
"Like I said. Can't sleep." Kageyama whispered.
"And why is that?" Iwaizumi also whispered. They didn't want to wake up Oikawa.
"I don't know. Just like that." Kageyama shrugged it off, not wanting to bother Iwaizumi with his little problems.
"Are you dumb?" Iwaizumi deadpanned.
"Excuse you?" Kageyama furrowed his brows, and puffed his cheeks. Why would he be dumb? Well, he was a little dense and oblivious in some situations, but still not dumb.
"Do you think I believe you?" Iwaizumi said, now looking into Kageyamas eyes. He couldn't see them well, due to the darkness, but he could still make out where they were.
"Well- you should. I'll be going to sleep now." He turned around to oikawas side.
Iwaizumi let out a sigh, before pulling Tobio back around to his side. "Baby. Tell me. What's wrong?" Iwaizumi wasn't kidding anymore. Kageyama got red again. Hajime only ever called him that when they were doing IT. Kageyama let out a sigh. He couldn't fool Iwaizumi.
"It's nothing, really. Just me overthinking things. Nothing new or special." Kageyama really didn't want to make a fool out of himself while sharing his thoughts with Iwaizumi. He knew they were stupid. But he still felt that way.
"Well, it bothers you, so it is important. C'mon tell me." Iwaizumi gently stroked Kageyamas fingers, trying to get the boy to talk.
"I just- it's just- I'm scared, okay?" Kageyama finally managed to get out.
"Scared? Of what? I thought you liked America so far...? If you are really uncomfortable, we can fly back in our jet immediately after we wake up later." Iwaizumi wanted Kageyama to feel comfortable in every situation they put him through. Tobio had said he was excited, but he knew that feelings could change.
"What!?" He practically screamed out, and clasped his hand onto his mouth right after. He didn't want to wake Tooru up. "No no no! I'm- it's not about America. America is way better than I expected it to be. It's- about tomorrow. I don't wanna mess this up for you guys. Cause- I'm just a beginner, and probably not good enough for-"
"Stop this. Right now." Iwaizumi made Kageyama shut up immediately. "Don't tell me this is why you're freaking out. You got this! I know you do. This is no different from what we usually do back in Japan."
"But-"
"No buts. You aren't gonna mess anything up for us. Having you here is more than we could've ever expected. Even if you stand there with no expression at all, the pictures would probably still sell like wildfire. You can't even mess up. And don't bother about the people there. They're only human. Exactly like us. In fact, they were so nice, I can't imagine them criticizing you. You are so beautiful. Everything you do is beautiful. And I'm sure they'll see that too." Iwaizumi patted Tobio's head.
"I- thank you 'zumi-san. I really hope you are right. I wouldn't want to destroy this for both of you." Kageyama buried his face in his hands.
"You couldn't. Even when you tried. If this doesn't work out, then we'll just go back to Japan. That's not a problem. We have enough customers, money and requests. Nothing to worry 'bout." He gave Kageyama's forehead a little peck."Now try to sleep, okay?"
Kageyama nodded, before letting out a small "yes. I love you."
In the end, Kageyama ended up getting five hours of sleep. Well, at least he slept at all.He woke up before the others, getting ready first. That only included him taking a shower, and brushing his teeth. He didn't know what to wear, but he wanted to let Oikawa choose.
So, he got into the kitchen, only a towel around his waist, preparing three cute bentos. He decided to put more effort into them today, knowing that it would calm him down from whatever was about to happen.Talking to Iwaizumi had helped a bit. He now wasn't afraid of disappointing them anymore.
More, he was afraid of disappointing himself. He knew he wanted to do good, and his ego would be really hurt, if he was going to mess things up. But he could deal with that. He hummed to some songs that came across his mind, as he made notes for Iwaizumi and Oikawa again. Even if he was going to be there too, he wasn't good with talking about what he felt.He barely understood his feelings himself. How was he supposed to form them into sentences?
So instead, he wrote notes that expressed whatever came to his mind. Even if it was a pun, he knew that the others appreciated it. Today, he wanted to motivate them, assuring them that they could reach whatever they wanted to.After he took a look at the clock and saw that it was already eight, he decided to wake the both of them up. They had to be there at eleven thirty, but he wanted to be prepared properly.
He opened the door to the bedroom. "'Kawa-san! 'Zumi-san! Wake up!", he exclaimed. He went up to them to shake them, still only wearing a towel. He needed Oikawa's advice quickly, since it was getting a bit fresh in only a towel.
Oikawa groaned."What? What says the time?" He didn't want to wake up. The bed was so comfortable.
"It's already a bit past eight am. Time to wake up." Kageyama stated rationally. He saw Iwaizumi stirring around in bed, and as he looked at Tobio, he had a confused look on his face. "Why the hell are you awake at this time? We still have good three and a half hours. How long have you been up?" His gaze fell down to Kageyamas waist, and he furrowed his brows even further together.
"Uh- that doesn't matter. I already prepared bentos, and took a shower. I just need 'kawa-san's help with the rest. Like my outfit and so on. I didn't dare trying to pick something out." Kageyama said.
Suddenly, Oikawa was awake. "Why didn't you say that from the start? Let's check out what you have, alright? I just need to get ready first. Give me twenty minutes." He immediately left bed, and made his way to the bathroom.Iwaizumi didn't understand anything anymore. They had to be there at eleven thirty, and it wasn't even quarter past eight in the morning. It took them 20 minutes to get to the company. At most.
He flopped back onto the bed, and huffed air out. If there was a competition for the craziest boyfriends, he would definitely win.
After half an hour, Iwaizumi decided to just go and wash himself up. He couldn't stand the noise the other two were making. There were loads of clothes laying on the floor and bed, as Oikawa and Kageyama searched for outfit options.Whenever Kageyama held up a shirt he liked, Oikawa would say that it didn't go with the pair of trousers he chose. Then they searched for a whole new outfit again.
It was ten thirty, when they all stood in front of their door, ready to go. They were ready to nail the most important day in their lives. But before they could function properly, they needed some coffee from a cafe. At least Iwaizumi needed one. So the others followed along, and left the hotel, and went out into the broad daylight.
Kageyama knew it couldn't have been his imagination. The people practically turned their necks in an unhealthy way, just to catch a glance at the three of them.Well, he knew they looked good, like- really good, but they were just human in the end of the day, no? The staring was slightly getting uncomfortable to him. He had to give people a smile, whenever they made eye contact, and that's why he was relieved when they reached the cafe.
After some casual flirting with the barista from Oikawa, the three of them all got their drinks, and were ready to get to Normada. Now that they were actually on their way, Kageyama couldn't help but feel nervous. His hands were shaking as they sat in the cab, and he always drifted off into his thoughts. That's also why he didn't realize they had already reached the huge company.
"...bio? Tobioooo!" Kageyama looked up at the call of his name.
"Well... we're here. Come out." Iwaizumi held out his hands to help Kageyama get out of the taxi.Iwaizumi noticed the wetness of them, and realized they were shaking a bit, which caused him to furrow his brows. When tobio got out, he looked around, and he was shocked.
Well, he couldn't say he didn't expect the company to be huge, but still. It was enormous.
"To-kun. Look at me." Iwaizumi grabbed his face, and turned it to face him. He held his face tight. "You can do this, okay? Don't stress. You got this." He looked at him with a very serious expression. Hajime needed Kageyama to understand that he was stressing out about nothing.
Kageyama slowly nodded, and soon found himself in between his boyfriends, each of them holding his hand. The three of them approached the building together.
Before they could pass, they had to go through a security system, where some guards searched them for any objects they weren't allowed to bring. Kageyama found that uncomfortable, but he just let them touch him. After that, they were allowed to go inside, and the first thing they did, was going up to the reception. The hall was very bright and flooded with light, and there were about twenty people in business clothing. They all looked so serious, Kageyama felt really tiny in between all the men and women that looked stunning.
"Hi! Uh, we are Oikawa and Iwaizumi from Beautycorp, with Kageyama Tobio here today. He's supposed to start modeling today? I'm not really sure, but we were supposed to bring him here today." Kageyama was surprised at how good Oikawas English was. He struggled, and there the other was almost speaking fluently. Now the thought of how he watched so many videos for beginners made his cheeks burn red. Oikawa must've found that entertaining.
"Yes! Of course! Please Wait a sec, I just need to check again." The receptionist said. She checked in a book, and then looked up at them again. "Please go to the third floor, room number 248. The rest will be explained there. Have a nice day, sir." The woman smiled at them, and immediately went back to work. She must've been a busy person.
The three of them then made their way to the elevator, and pressed the button for the third floor. Kageyama felt himself instinctively clutch both of their hands a little bit harder. They probably were engrossed with how wet they were, but they just had to endure it. He wasn't going to let go.
When the door opened with a ping, they went onto a very expensive looking floor, which reached about nine thousand feet away. If Kageyama were to make a rough assessment of it. They went out, and started searching for room 248. Oikawa and Iwaizumi had been there the day before, but they only stayed on the floor of the reception. So this was new to them too.
After some minutes they found the door, which lead to the room. They stood in front of it. It was now or never.
Oikawa gently knocked, and the three of them waited, until someone opened the door.It was a woman with a short haircut, and almost black eyes. She smiled at them, and led them in, closing the door behind her.
"Oh my god! Are you mister Kageyama Tobio? Wow! I'm so happy you made it. And a huge thanks to you guys, Mister Oikawa and mister Iwaizumi. It's an honor for us to have you guys here!" There was a woman with ash blonde hair and beautiful bright green eyes. She seemed like a happy person.
"No the pleasure is all ours, Miss Alisa." Oikawa bowed a bit, and Iwaizumi did the same. Startled, Kageyama looked at them, before bowing himself. The woman then proceeded to giggle.
"Please don't bow." She motioned for them to follow her more into the room, that turned out to be humongous."I'm so happy that the collaboration actually worked, and yesterday was just a whole success. I knew the collection would be great from the start."
She showed them to two chairs. "Please take a seat." Oikawa and Iwaizumi sat down, while Kageyama grew more nervous each second. There were only two chairs. Was he supposed to stand? And stupid him, he didn't even get to greet the woman.
"Not you, Tobio. Is it alright, if I call you that? Anyways, please follow me. We will have some people here to talk with Oikawa and Iwaizumi about the paper stuff once again. The both of us will go to the studio." Kageyama just followed her like a duck did with its mother. He hadn't said a word yet.
She led him out of the room, and went to the elevator."Are you nervous?" She asked him with a warm smile.
"Yes, honestly." He answered. There was no need in trying to hide that. You could literally see his hands shake.
She laughed a bit. "Really. There's no need in being nervous. We know that you'll do great. This is no different to what you're used to.
"I know. I just wanted to er....thank you again. For... everything. For giving me this chance." Kageyama said to her. His conscious would have scolded him, if he hadn't said anything.
"No problem at all. It's actually so exciting to work with new people from time to time." She gave him another smile.
The rest of their way was mostly silent. Kageyama still felt nervous, but so far everyone had been nice to him. He liked Alisa. When they arrived in the studio, the one at Beautycorp suddenly seemed really small to him. There were loads of people doing different things. Some were pushing a pile of clothes on a clothes rail, some were behind huge camera setups and some were in the makeup corner. They all looked really buys, but they still looked at Kageyama when he entered.
He gave all of them a small smile, and his a bit behind Alisa. Just a bit, so no one actually noticed.
"Please follow me, Tobio. First of all, we're gonna check through the outfits, and have a talk with the director."She guided him to a department where he saw loads of clothes, and people working on them.
"The clothing rack for Mister Tobio Kageyama, please!" She yelled a bit, and in a mere second there was a girl, that brought in a clothing rack. If Kageyama wouldn't have stared at all the fancy clothing, he would've noticed the girl blushing at his sight. He couldn't believe he was supposed to wear all this fancy clothing.
"Thanks, Momo. Okay so Tobio, this is what you will shoot in. We have different sets for the different clothes, and some will be pair Shootings or even group shootings. But we should just go and see the director. He'll tell you more about it." He shortly nodded, and followed her. Again.
The girl named Momo, was still pushing his clothing rack, and he only now realized."Oh um... should I take this....?" He asked her, not really sure of what to do.
She got big eyes, and a blush tainted her cheeks as she realized he was talking to her. "O-Oh! Um... n-no thanks... I can do it." She smiled at him, and he gave her a little smile back.
"Hi Alisa!" A guy got up from his stool, and made his way towards them.
"Hey Jo! This is him." She introduced Kageyama to him, after they gave each other small pecks on their cheeks.
"Hello mister. My name is Kageyama Tobio. It's an honor for me to be here today." Kageyama bowed again. The guy grinned, and gave Kageyama a friendly punch. "No need to be so formal, Kageyama. My name is Jo, and I am gonna be directing your shoot today. Do you have any questions?"
Kageyama didn't. He knew that he just simply had to do his best. "No sir." He shook his head.
"Oh no. Please call me Jo." He smiled at him, and Kageyama gave a genuine smile back. He now knew that there was nothing to be afraid of, and that the shoot was going to be just fine. The people were nice, and he could do it. He was sure he could.
That's why he wore a big grin on his face when he finally left Normada with Oikawa and Iwaizumi in the afternoon. The shooting wasn't bad. Not at all, to be honest. He got a lot of compliments on his modeling skills, and they all in fact knew that he was new to modeling. The clothes he got to wear were so cool, and he was once again fascinated with Oikawa's and Iwaizumi's talent.
"Tobio!" They were just about to leave, as someone called for him. When he turned around, he was surprised to see that girl there. The girl that was in charge of his clothes. Momo was her name, wasn't it?
"Oh, uhm. Hi. Momo, right?" Kageyama greeted the girl politely. The people there have been so nice to him all day, and him and Momo got to talk a bit, when he had to change into the different outfits. He learned that she was in fact there for an internship, and she was only 17. That's why she looked so young to him.
"Yes that's right." The girl gave him a shy smile. "I uh... I wanted to ask you something." She looked to the ground as she spoke, and she had now caught Iwaizumi's and Oikawa's full attention. What could that girl possibly want from their boyfriend? They hadn't seen her in any photos. And they were there the whole time.
"Oh? Sure. Go ahead." Kageyama encouraged her to keep going. She was in his age, and his only so to say friend.
"Uhm, would you.. maybe.. like- give me your number? Only if you want to! I- I don't want to pressure-" after she managed to get out the question, the girl started stuttering like hell, and she got all red. So Kageyama decided to put an end to her dilemma.
"Yes! That's- that's no problem at all. Here, let me give it to you." He took out his phone, and the girl sighed in relief. The both of them exchanged numbers, and Oikawa couldn't stop himself from raising an eyebrow at her with crossed arms. He didn't say anything, but that didn't mean he liked it.
"Thanks! Bye Tobio! See you tomorrow?" She asked, and he nodded while smiling at her. She then turned around, and went back in. Apparently her shift wasn't over yet.
Kageyama, too, turned around and made his way to the entrance when he realized that his boyfriends weren't standing next to him anymore, so he stopped and looked back.He saw them standing on the same spot, as they whispered to each other. Well, it was just Oikawa whispering, while Iwaizumi stood there, an odd look on his face. Kageyama had never seen that expression. He couldn't really tell what it was, but it didn't seem like a positive expression.
"Kawa-san? Zumi-san? Let's get going..?", he kind of asked, not sure on how to approach them. He didn't think he did anything wrong so he couldn't explain their behavior.
"Sure! Sorry! Iwa-Chan, let's go!" Oikawa took Iwaizumi's hand, and dragged him to Tobio. There he patted the younger male on the shoulder, and went ahead, out of the building. Kageyama only followed behind them like a lost puppy. It was in the cab, when they started talking again.
"So... Tobio-chan, who was that girl? A new friend?" Oikawa asked, trying to sound genuinely interested and curious.Kags could tell that it was fake, which caused him to furrow his brows, but he answered nonetheless.
"Yes. We only met today, but she is super nice. Her name is Momo, and she is 17."
"Oh? That's good to hear. But say, isn't she a bit young for working there?" Oikawa said, sweetly.
"She doesn't work there. She has an internship ongoing, that's why she is there. But she said she'd like to work there after school." Kageyama said, still confused.
"Wasn't that a pretty girl? Right, iwa-chan? She seemed lovely, right?" Oikawa knew his behavior was ridiculous, but god forbid his boyfriend flirting with another person. With him it was totally different. His boyfriends knew that it was just his personality, but with Tobio, you knew it wasn't.
"...what? Well- I guess...? She was pretty...?", he more of asked, not understanding what was going on.
"Kawa. Cut it out. Let him be. He didn't know." Iwaizumi now spoke up, who had just been watching.
"But iwa-Chan! Wouldn't you be jealous if you saw me flirting with another girl right in front of you?"
"No. You literally flirt with every human being." He stated.
Oikawa rolled his eyes. "Fine. Not me then. But just tell me you weren't jealous back there." He raised an eyebrow, awaiting an answer.
"I was. I won't sugarcoat it. But as I said: To-kun probably didn't even notice." Iwaizumi managed to stay calm throughout it all.
"Wait- wait! What do you guys mean? Jealous?" Kageyama asked, confused with the situation.
Oikawa let out a sigh. "We were jealous you flirted with that Momo girl. In front of us."
"Flirted? What? We just exchanged numbers! We didn't- flirt?" Kageyama got slightly irritated now. They thought he was oblivious. If he had wanted to flirt, then he would have. But he didn't. Because he had them. And he didn't need anyone else.
"But it sure seemed like it. At least to me." Oikawa crossed his arms in front of his chest.
"We have arrived." The cab driver said. They now stood in front of the hotel again.
"What the heck? We just met today! Why would I flirt with her? She's just a friend! (Adrien Agreste-) I was so happy I found someone to talk to in that huge ass company. Why are you making a scene?" Kageyama found himself being even more angry now. Didn't they trust him?
"Who knows if you're actually just friends? Maybe that'll change in some time. Don't lie- didn't you see her blush?" Oikawa knew he was overreacting, but his jealousy got the best of him.
"Huh? I mean, yes, but what does that have to do with anything?" Kageyama squinted his eyes.
"Mister, we have arrived." The cab driver said again.
"Exactly! You saw her blush, and you still gave out your number. Do you do that with all girls that ask? Do you love the attention so much?! Feels good, huh? Having so many people admire you. You're so selfish! Having both Iwaizumi and me isn't enough!? Aren't we enough!?"
Kageyama's eyes widened. Oikawa just called him an attention seeker. He didn't understand how that escalated so quickly.
"Cut it out, Oikawa.", Iwaizumi said, but he didn't make any more efforts.
Kageyama then looked to the ground. He didn't want them to see the tears that welled up in his eyes. He didn't want them to know that they had hurt him. But his voice still came out shaky.
"No. Let him talk. I mean, he is right. I am selfish. I was from the start. It was selfish of me for barging into your relationship. And I'm sorry I made you feel jealous. I just thought you guys would trust me enough. Trust me enough to let me try and make new contacts on my own. I thought you guys would always have my back. But I am one attention seeking bitch, aren't I?"
He looked up at them, tears glistening in his eyes. He smiled. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again." Kageyama exited the taxi quickly, and went into the hotel without looking back.He ignored them when they called his name multiple times. He just wanted to get into their apartment quickly. Shut himself in. Cry about his foolishness.
He had made himself vulnerable with loving them, and this was what he got.
But he couldn't blame them. He knew from the start that a bit of luck and happiness was too much to ask for. At least for him.
