Chapter 7

07:15, 26 January 2023

When Jonathan heard the car pull up, he relaxed, opening the door. Both you and Lex exited, moving inside. Jonathan looked left and right after you'd entered, closing the door behind.

"What's going on, what happened at school?"

You were still moving a bit frantically.

"Calvin had some connections at the precinct. He showed me the reports, the pictures they took. Dad there was a Kryptonian symbol marked into the ground right next to Morgan's vehicle. I completely missed it when I was there because I was trying to get Lex out. Morgan hit Lex's car, but something got Morgan. Whatever it is could still be out there. I have no idea what."

You grabbed a piece of paper and pen from nearby, scribbling down what you'd seen.

All eyes moved to the cryptic writing.

"What does it mean?"

"Reality."

Lex straightened.

"I don't understand what's going on, but Jor-El must be involved. He has to be." Lex was still playing catch up.

"Honey, you don't know that for sure. We can't jump to conclusions." Martha was doing her best to keep you calm, but you were reeling.

"You know what he's capable of. I'm not losing anyone else because of him." Martha knew that look, and before you could take off in a haste, Lex grabbed your hand.

"What are you doing? I'm trying to save you Lex!!"

"I understand that, and I appreciate it. But you need to think this through. This Jor-El, whoever he is, do you really think running in and facing him head on is going to solve this problem. Think about your family. If he really is after me, then you need to stay here and protect them. If he's as dangerous as you say, then he could come after them."

"What about you?"

"I'll be fine. I've survived much worse than a car accident. I think I can take some cowardly apparition."

"This isn't like what you're used to Lex. The last time I crossed him I lost my baby brother."

The mention of that had a ripple effect. Jonathan knew after that day you never recovered. They had basically blamed you for his death. It's why you'd run away to Morgan Edge in the first place. It explained why Morgan kept coming after you. Everything to this point was because of all your selfish decisions.

"I'm not losing you, not again."

Lex knows that you've already made up your mind. Nothing he says is going to change it.

"Take me with you."

Your expression changed.

"If I'm in danger, I'm not going to just sit around and wait for my ticket to expire. We can do this together. I need to know what's happening. "

"But Lex.."

"Please, let me help."

You're not sold on the idea, but he's stubborn just like you. So he'd find a way to get in between. You weren't exactly happy at the idea of him going out on his own.

"Okay."

Your fingers interlock, and Lex nods.

"It's good that you're wearing a coat, you're going to need it where we have to go." Lex wasn't fully sure what that meant. You looked back over to Jonathan and Martha.

"I promise I'll do everything in my power to keep her safe."

Lex has already decided.

If it turns out that this being taking his life would leave you alone, then he'd gladly give his life. The same way you've been putting your own on the line. Ever since he met you. Met Clark.

He owed that much.

"Please, bring her back."

Jonathan never outwardly said that, but Lex could read it on his face. He gave them one last look, then turned to you. Both Martha and Jonathan closed their eyes when they felt the familiar rush of wind. As they stared at the empty space, they hugged each. Neither sure when you would return, if you would return.
