41. Tommy Loves Trains

"Follow me." Gally said turning round.

"I'm not going anywhere with you." Thomas dismissed.

"Suit yourself. But I can get you through those walls." Everyone turned to look at Thomas.

The group walked through some sort of street as people moved through in and out of their houses. "After the maze, I got picked up by a group headed to the city. They realised I was immune and patched me up, and they brought me here to Lawrence." Gally explained as they turned a corner.

"Why do I feel like I know that name." Athena mumbled to Frypan.

"No idea." he paused, "Is it just me or did Gally get good looking?" he asked, causing Athena to stifle back a laugh.

"Yeah he did, but my excuse for that is hormones, what's yours?" She asked giggling slightly, causing the rest to look at the two.

"We will talk about this later." He whispered, to which she nodded.

The group came to a stop which unfortunately ended the two's conversation, Athena and Fry walking up between Newt and Thomas. "Listen, uh, he doesn't get a lot of visitors. So, let me do the talking. All right? And he's very sceptical of people after an incident that happened a couple of years ago so don't take anything personally." Gally informed. "And try not to stare."

The group followed Gally to an apartment, plants covering most of the window area. "Gally. Glad to see you made it back." a man said "Jasper told me what happened."

"It was a slaughter. Nothing we could do against those guns." Gally informed as the other man started to turn around.

"No," the man spoke up, "but they can only poke the hornet's nest so long before they get stung. Now who are these people? Why are they here?"

"We need to get into WCKD" Thomas said, walking forward slightly. Gally said you can get us through those walls."

The man turned his head to fully look at the group, "Gally should know better then to make promises that he can't keep. Besides the wall is only half your problem. Getting inside Wicked is impossible."

"There might be a way now." Gally reasoned "But it doesn't work without Thomas."

"Is that so? I was more expecting you to say the little shit standing next to blonde." he said referring to Athena as he walked towards the group, "You know what I am?" he asked coming into the light revealing, his eyes half pooled balk, half his face with black and purple veins. "I am a businessman. Which means I don't take unnecessary risks. Or work with people that have tried to kill me." he said, his voice colder than before.

"What do you mean tried to kill you?" Gally asked.

"Like I said the little shit, knows me, she worked Wicked, assassin to be more specific. After all these years you finally had the courage to finish the job." he said walking towards Athena.

"Woah, i'm sorry but we've never bloody met you." Newt said standing in front of Athena.

"Well, why don't you ask her."

The group looked at Athena, "I- i don't know you." she said in all honesty.

"Our memories from before the maze got wiped there's a chance you could have met but they won't be able to remember." Gally said standing next to Lawrence whose eyes were locked on Athena.

"Well then, let me jog your memory. Six years ago a thirteen year old girl knocked on my door. Covered in dirt, crying. As any sane person would I let her into my home to give her shelter. In the middle of making her a sandwich since she looked like she hadn't eaten in days I was stabbed in the back of my spine. She left me for dead, and I have been head of the revolution for eleven years. When I was saved I found the knife she stabbed me with and had the engravings WCKD. putting two and two together along with the rumors of a little girl going round killing off Wicked's threats, I didn't believe it for a second till I saw it with my own eyes. So tell me Athena Pereze did that jog your memory enough."

"Okay, That's enough." Newt said, seeing the pained face Athena had.

The group looked to see almost a switch flicked in Athena, "October 4th" She mumbled looking at the ground.

"Guess that did jog your memory." Lawrence smirked

"Look, putting past's aside, we can help you." Thomas said, trying to get the attention off Athena. "You see, if you can get me through those walls, i can get you what you need."

"What is it that you think I need?" Lawrence asks.

"Time." he said, glancing at the IV stand that holds blue liquid in. "Every last drop."

"Is that what I need?"

"Wicked has something we both want."

"I'll tell you what. Three can go for now. The rest stay down here with me. Just a little insurance to make sure you find your way back." Lawrence said. "We have a deal?" he asked, holding out his hand. Thomas with a strong grip shook his hand. "Gally show him the way.

The group looked down at the newly opened passage, as Gally carefully moved a ladder down. "Be careful, Thomas." Jorge said, and light patted an unusually quiet Athena on the back, "You okay?"

"Yeah." she replied, sniffling slightly.

"Gally, take care of these three." Fry said as Gally prepared to climb down the ladder.

"Yeah." he replied, climbing down the ladder.

"You after me okay." Thomas said to Athena who nodded, but her attention was on Newt who was looking at a very shaky hand, that he pulled into a fist. The same hand with a bandaged wrist.

"Errr." Newt groaned as he climbed down the ladder into the sewers. "This is gross. Jesus christ."

"Yeah this is great." Thomas commented as they followed Gally.

"Why have I done this twice now." Athena added.

Finding a switch Gally flicked it causing a sting of lights to turn on lighting up the tunnel "Stay with me. We got ways to go."

"Hey Gally, how did you end up with a bloody Crank as a roommate." Newt asked as he carried on walking.

"Actually I owe that crank my life. Some group found me, could have sold me back to WCKD, traded my life for a few ounces of serum, instead he offered me a place. That I have something worth living for." Gally explained, making Athena feel even more upset then she already did.

"What's that?" Thomas asked, looking at a smaller darkened tunnel.

"Wait here." Gally commanded turning round seeing Athena's pained face but didn't want to draw attention, "I'll be right back." and he walked into the tunnel.

"Where's he going?" Thomas said walking forwards, past Athena. "You think we should trust him?" He asked Newt and Athena, Gally out of ear shot. "After everything he's done."

"There's no reason not to." Athena said looking at the water at her feet.

"What other option do we have?" Newt asked. "I Know this might be hard for you to believe Thomas, but there was a time when Gally was a true friend of mine. And Athena's."

"Hey." Gally spoke up from behind Thomas. "It's clear. Let's move." he said walking back into the tunnel.

"Hope you're right." Thomas said following after Gally.

"You go first." Athena mumbled.

"You alright?" Newt asked.

"Yeah. I'm fi-"

"We'll talk about this later." Newt interjected, kissing her forehead, and following after Thomas, already knowing she wasn't about to talk.

"Alright this way." Gally said climbing into a recently made, side tunnel. "Hold up." he said at the other end as the other three followed. The four waited patiently, suddenly a train came speeding past the small tunnel. "Okay! We gotta be quick about it!" Gally shouted over the train noise. "We haven't got a lot of time!" the train finally passed, "Okay, let's go!" he said jumping out of the tunnel and into the train tunnel.

Thomas, Newt and Athena following. "Great. Tommy loves trains don't you." Newt asked sarcastically.

"Great cuz there's gonna be another one real soon." Gally said running past. The three soon follow his actions.

"Gally! What the hell are we doing?" Thomas asked, as they started to hear a train in the distance.

"Less talking, more running!" Gally shouted back.

Continuing to run forward the group looked to see a train up ahead, "Gally!" Thomas shouted.

"Come on! We're almost there!"

"Newt, Thea! We gotta move!" Thomas said running past the pair, Athena trailing behind.

As the train horn sounded, it got closer and closer Athena came to a halt as Newt fell onto the ground, Thomas and Gally looked back at them, themselves at the ladder. "Newt! Thea!" Thomas shouted as Athena tried to help Newt up.

"No!" Gally pushed Thomas against the wall and ran towards the pair, as he got there, he pushed Athena to the wall and tackled Newt to the ground.

"Newt!" Athena and Thomas both shouted, as the train held the pair against the wall, Athena further down then Thomas.

As the train passed Thomas and Athena kept their eyes closer afraid to look. The pair only opened their eyes after hearing Gally groan. "Well that was a first." Gally stated.

Before Newt could stand up he was forced back onto the ground by Athena who held him tightly in a hug, as she kissed all round his face. "You're a dickhead." she told him with a smile on her face,

"Sorry?" he replied, to which she rolled her eyes and pulled him into a deep kiss.

"You used to be a great runner Newt. What the hell happened?" Gally asked playfully after the two had their moment.

"I've only got one good leg." Newt replied as he grabbed Gally's hand and pulled himself up, then pulling Athena onto her feet.

"Yeah. only got one good lung." Gally exhaled. "What's your excuse?" he said, raising eyebrows at Athena who used to be the fastest runner in the Glade.

"Slim it." She replied walking towards the ladder, Gally following.

"You okay?" Thomas asked Newt.

"Yeah" Newt nodded.

The pair following Athena and Gally.
