2. What's the maze?

As Alby and the still unnamed boy walk through the field the teenagers around them throw a few intrigued glances here and there but overall carried on with their jobs. "We eat here, we sleep here, we grow our own food, we build our own shelter." Alby explained as they walked through the humid environment, "Whatever we need the box provides. The rest is up to us." he said, turning back around round facing forwards.

The boy slowly stopped and looked at Alby "The box?" he questioned, while glancing over to the supplies above the 'box' that he also arrived in not long an hour ago.

"Yeh, they send them once a month with new supplies" he tuned to look at the boy "and a new greenie. This month that's you. Congratulations." nudging the boy.

"Sent up by who, though? Who put us here?"

"Ye, we don't know," Alby simply replied.

Hearing light footsteps coming towards them, Alby looked to the owner of the sound as the greenie stood there still thinking of an answer for all this. "Hey, you alright, Alby?"

As he moved to look at who spoke a boy around the same height with sandy blonde hair, chocolate eyes and a sharp jawline walked to them with an amused look on his face.

"Ah-ha, green bean, meet Newt" As the friendly boy greeted the newbie with a strong handshake and a smile while saying hello Alby carried on his introduction, "When I'm not around, he's in charge." pointing at Newt.

Newt looked in Alby direction and stated "Well it's a good thin' you're always around then." in a charming british accent. Tuning his attention back to the greenie he carried on "Listen, that was some dash you made earlier. Yanno for a second I thought you had the chops to be a runner, till you face planted." he stated with a sarcastic but reassuring nod and slight smirk.

As the two laughed, the boy looked at them "Wait, runner?"

The two obviously wanting to avoid the conversation Alby tuned to the skinny built boy "Do me a favour go find Chuck?" Once Newt agreed, she walked off looking for him as First in command had asked.

After thanking him Alby and greenie started to walk the other way, "look, i'm sorry I have to rush this, but you came up a little late. We got a lot to do, and we have something special planned tonight."

Once Alby and the newbie were done with their talk, a chubby slightly red-headed boy stood below the overview post looking up with his arms full of supplies. After gaining their attention they climbed down and walked towards the boy.

Chuck and the unnamed boy walk over to the sleeping area, as the younger boy no more than 14 made the hammock but also rambling on out the glade and other aspects of it, the boy couldn't but pay more attention to the gap between the 100ft walls enclosing them. As Chuck tried to reassure the new boy as he turned around to tighten the rope, he turned to face him only to see him no longer with him. But just his look to find him speedily walking towards the exit of the area, already halfway there.

Caught up with him, he said slightly out of breath: "Dude, where are you going?" he asked hoping it wasn't the answer he was thinking.

"I just want to see" the boy stated curiously, gesturing towards the gap.

"You can look around all you want, but you better not go out there." the younger boy stated sternly.

"Why not? What's through there?" the older one asked, getting closer and closer.

"I don't know. I just know what I'm told.And we're not supposed to leave." he said lowly not wanting to get into trouble.

Almost as if one que, two boys and a girl run out of the exit, looking sweaty and out of breath. The boy then realised this is the first and only girl he's seen around here. Keeping focus on the trio he questions Chuck "Is she the only girl here?"

Chuck also staring at the laughing out of breath group he replies "Yeh, she got here about 2 years ago, first and last girl to show up since."

As the group started to make their way to the duo the tall blonde spoke up, "Hey, Chuck" he said kindly to the young boy. Whereas the girl looked annoyed, muttering words that anyone could barely hear while she kept running alongside the asian boy beside her, both heading further into the glade. "How does it feel to be promoted?" the blonde questioned but slowly running off into the distance.

"It feels great, Ben." he replied putting his thumbs up.

As the small group ran off, the new guy questioned "I thought no one was allowed to leave."

In a very sassy tone Chuck replied saying "I said we're not allowed to leave.They're different. They're runners.They know more about the maze then anyone."

Beginning shocked at this new knowledge, he continued to question more; "w-- wait, what?"

"What?" the younger boy now being confused.

"You just said 'maze'." the confusion on why no one mentioned this growing more and more.

"I-- I did?" Chuck said realising what he just did.

"Yeah" the guy confirmed, and Chuck proceeded to wear a worried look.

The greenie forcefully walked to the entrance with curiosity taking a toll on him.As Chuck tried to figure out his motive and what he was planning to do the greenie started getting closer. "I just want to take a look." he said, slightly pushing the younger boy away from him.

Trying to convince him otherwise Chuck spoke up; "You can't, no one leaves, especially not now!" his voice started to lace with worry of not knowing how to handle the situation. "It's Not safe".

Reassuring the small boy he won't go in he took hurried steps towards the entrance not planning on slowing down, looking in he could see the ivy filed walls and vines hanging from wall to wall. Getting all the more closer, out of nowhere a deep voice sounded: " Hey!" the owner of the voice stated also pushing the newbie to the ground stopping him from his plans.

As Gally stood before the boy on the floor he looked down at him, "We gotta stop meeting like this, greenie."

"Get off me!" the boy exclaimed, climbing to his feet in defense, whilst Gally told him to calm down. "Hey, don't touch me!" the greenie said, starting to get annoyed. Gladers started crowding round trying to see what's about to happen as Gally kept trying to calm him down."Hey! What the hell is wrong with you guys!"

"Just calm down, all right." Newt said slowing down his pace joining the two, with Athena a few meters away.

"No. Why won't you tell me what's out there?" the greenie asked with a mix of panic and frustration.

"We are just trying to protect you, man." Alby said, trying to diffuse the situation.

"It's for your own good." Newt stated adding onto the conversation sharing a wary look with the girl.

"Alright, you guys can't just keep me here!" the newbie started looking at all of them.

"We can't let you leave!" Alby spoke up holding a hand motioning for the rest of us to stop moving.

"Why not?" As this was said a huge gust of wind flew from out of the maze and a loud cog like noise sounded. All the gladers directed their attention to the entrance of the maze. The gust of wind came out, blowing through everyone's hair as people covered their eyes. Another loud noise presented itself causing the boy to flinch slightly then, two doors as tall as the walls started moving, reaching out for eachother then connecting and closing with a final boom, sounding through the glade.

"Next time, I'm going to let you leave," Gally threatened, causing a silence to wash over the group.

The silence was broken by the girl scoffing and simply stating: "si, seguro que lo harás" while rolling her eyes and walking away.

"What did you just say?" Gally looked at her sternly trying to intimidate the short girl.

She slightly laughed at him trying to intimidate her, "i simply said i doubt you will keep that threat just like the other 17 you have threatened me with. Face it Gally you may look scary but you don't have the brains to be threatening." she stated matter of factly staring back at the boy with her arms crossed leaning slightly on her left leg.

The group chuckled at her comeback and Gally shook his head giving her the newest glader a death stare and walking off. As the group started to depart back to what they were doing before, as Athena started walking away someone grabbed her arm she tuned to meet the gaze of Newt. "You alright, love?" he asked having noticed her short temper today.

Slowly walking together, the conversation continued "ye, why wouldn't I be?" as she said that she heard the annoyance laced in her voice, and internally scolding herself.

"Well I'll probably have to come up with a few reasons for how I've noticed, should I start my list?" he said sarcastically walking a bit in front of her and walking backwards in front of her.

"No, I don't think you should." She started with a shaking of her head avoiding eye contact.

Ignoring the answer she gave he continued anyway: " Number 1 - you only speak Spanish around people when you are annoyed, angry or on your period" she rolled her eyes in response. "Number 2 - you normally come over to say hi to me once your back from the maze letting me know you back but you don't when you are angry knowing, i would want to know why." Both coming to a stop she huffed in defeat but was letting him carry on while she stated at the ground. "And finally number 3 - you won't make eye contact with me because you know that what exactly just happened will happen." he swiftly stated walking closer to her and grabbing her shoulders pulling her into a hug. "And I'm obviously too bloody gorgeous to look at."

Once he said that she could hear the smirk on his face more than his accent. "Ah- you wish" she simply replied while having her arms around his torso and face in the crook of his neck.

"Well now I'm not going to feel a bit bad about telling you this next thing" he said looking down at the Cuban girl in front of him.

She looked up to meet chocolate colored eyes against her amber ones. "And what did you want to tell me?"

"That Chuck has been going through your lady crate for the past eight minutes looking for more of the chocolate he found last month." he calmly stated, giving her a wink with a smirk on his face.She looked over towards her hammock to see Newt was correct, Chuck was determined to find that chocolate. Looking back up at him he wore a genuine smile and said "And i may have agreed to the plan and he said he would give me half of one the bars." ending it with a heart melting smile.

Pushing herself out of his reach and then dodging him went he went to grab her again she swiftly ran off towards her belongings, but not before shouting towards the ashy brown haired boy "eres una maldita perra! (you're a fucking bitch!)" As she ran towards the young boy she couldn't help but listen to the charming boy she just ran from laughing with the biggest smile on his face,knowing that he knew the regularly used fraze.
