Sad endings always made you cry. You always felt so empty inside after watching them. You'd watch two characters fall in love and fight the odds that dared to keep them apart only for one of them to die in the end. Like— what the fuck? Who in their right mind decided that it was okay to break apart two characters who only ever wanted to be happy together?
That's why you could hardly contain the smile that was tugging at your lips as you sat on the edge of Spencer's desk, watching him twirl his pen around his fingers as he looked at Morgan, furrowing his brows. The foray was finally over— you and Spencer could finally be happy together. And that's why you loved happy endings— because the characters finally got what they always deserved. "I don't understand," Spencer said, leaning back in his seat as he chuckled faintly, looking at Derek. "We were only gone for three weeks. Why does Rossi want to throw a party?"
"Why? Because it's Rossi," Morgan replied, shrugging his shoulders. "He'll make an excuse out of anything just to throw a party."
"Besides," you said, smiling at your boyfriend, "why are you complaining? I mean, it's free food."
"I'm not complaining," he quickly objected, jolting upright in his seat as he looked at you. "I'm just curious."
Ruffling your hand through his curls, you giggled, shaking your head at him as you said, "You're so analytical."
"Well, you are essentially dating the equivalent of a philosopher," Morgan interjected, chuckling as he leaned back in his seat, smirking at you.
"That reminds me," Spencer grinned. Morgan's eyes flicked to you, groaning as Spencer continued, "The term philosopher is a combination made from two Greek words— philein and sophia. Actually, the words date back all the way to ancient Greece. The meaning of them combined is lover of wisdom, so, yeah, I guess, in a way, I am the equivalent of a philosopher." He grinned up at you, his eyes searching yours for approval as you folded one leg over the other, nodding your head at him.
"Count on Reid to take a joke and turn it into a history lesson," Morgan audibly groaned.
"Hey," you said, seizing Spencer's pen from his hands before throwing it at him, saying, "be nice."
Morgan stuck his tongue out at you, laughing as he set back to work. You narrowed your eyelids, looking at Spencer for a moment before wrapping your hand around the back of his neck, pulling him towards you. Spencer's eyes shot wide open as you slammed your lips into his, kissing him zealously. You pulled away after a moment, looking over at Morgan, watching him as he wrapped his arm around his stomach, grabbing his trash can hidden beneath his desk before pretending to barf into it.
"Yeah. Mhm. That's what I thought," you snickered, looking at Spencer. He was blushing, watching you as you giggled, folding your hands in your lap. "Hey, you," you said, looking at him. You smiled, punching his shoulder lightly as you asked, "How are you?"
"Me? I'm all right," he replied, nodding at you.
"Is it an 'I'm okay' kind of day or an—" You paused, glancing around the room before smiling down at him— "'I need some serious cuddles as we watch some outdated Russian movie you could care less about that I find really entertaining' kind of day?"
Spencer chuckled at your words, placing a hand on your knee as he said, "I'm okay, (Y/N). Seriously. Besides— we couldn't do that anyway. We have this dinner to go to tonight now."
"You're right. Shoot," you said, snapping your fingers. "Guess we'll just have to stay up late, then."
Spencer smiled at you, intertwining his fingers with yours in your lap. "I love you, you know," he said, reaching up with his other hand, pushing a strand of your hair behind your ear. "I hope you always remember that."
"I love you, too, genius," you giggled, placing your hand over his.
"Hello," you heard Morgan pant behind you, swiveling your head around to look at him. He was holding his phone to his ear, clutching his stomach as he groaned, saying, "Baby girl? I need you. Yeah, I think I'm about to pass out. Why? Well, because (Y/N) and Reid are literally milliseconds away from tearing each other's clothes off and screwing each other right here in front of me."
"You're so overdramatic!" You cried as he ran over to his desk. You pretended to punch him as he dropped his phone, grabbing your wrists and chuckling. You giggled as you fought against him, fighting his grip on your hands.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Spencer called, snapping his fingers at Morgan. "That's my girlfriend! Get your hands off her."
"Oops. My bad," Morgan snickered, rolling his eyes.
"She already made a joke about sleeping with you when I was literally in the hospital," Spencer groaned, crossing his arms.
"Yeah, she wishes."
You reached down, grabbing Morgan's trash can off the floor before pretending to throw up into it, smirking at him as he hit your arm lightly, laughing, "Now that's just mean!"
You giggled, setting the trash can down before you walked back over to Spencer, planting a small kiss on his head. You waved goodbye to him and he waved back at you. You walked up the steps of the catwalk, your heels clacking against the flooring as you made your way to your office. You pulled the door open, swiveling your head around to look at the coffee station nearby, leaning your head against the door frame as you smiled to yourself, remembering the first time that you met Spencer.
You had no idea— in that exact moment— that in a year, you would be dating, and you would be the happiest that you'd ever been in your entire life. You tapped your fingers against the doorway, your eyes flicking to Spencer working fixedly at his desk, giggling to yourself before you walked into your office, closing the door behind you.
~~~
"Evviva!" Rossi cried as he opened the door for you and Spencer, grabbing Spencer's wrist as he pulled him in, planting two kisses on both his cheeks, pulling him into a hug. "You guys came!"
"We weren't about to pass up on free linguine, Rossi," you giggled as he hugged you next, kissing your forehead.
"Glad to hear it," he chuckled. He closed the door behind you, ushering you out of the living room as he said, "Go! Go! Everyone's already outside."
Spencer grabbed your hand, lacing his fingers with yours as he led you outside. The rest of the team was already there, drinking and laughing until they saw you. Cheers filled the large backyard as you laughed, squeezing Spencer's hand. Garcia ran over to you, pulling you both into a hug as she cried, "You guys made it!"
She pulled away from you, grinning up at Spencer as JJ came over to you next, pulling you into a hug. "So, 187," Garcia said, hitting his shoulder lightly. "How are you since the three week hiatus in Vegas?"
"Good," he replied, smiling as JJ came over to him, hugging him. Morgan walked over to you, pulling you into a side hug as you punched his chest. He gasped, hitting your arm lightly as you laughed. "I'm doing a lot better," Spencer continued, looking over at you and Morgan. "You guys are literally siblings! Stop!" He cried, peeling you off of Morgan as you started play-fighting.
Hotch walked over, squeezing Spencer's shoulder before pulling you into a side hug, saying, "It's good to see you both again."
"Yeah, I bet. I already saw the stack of cases on my desk," you winced, looking at him.
"Oh, yeah. You're gonna be busy for a long time," JJ laughed. "That's what happens when you're the media liaison."
"Ugh. Maybe Spencer's right. Maybe I should just complete the training to become a profiler," you replied, motioning to Spencer.
"I could see you doing it," Hotch replied. "Being a profiler. I mean, you definitely have the bias of one."
You smiled at him, crossing your arms. "Yeah? I'll think about it, then."
Music began to play in the background and Garcia gasped, grabbing your hands in hers as she pulled you onto the grass, saying, "Come on! Dance with me!"
You grabbed JJ's hand as you passed by her, pulling her along as the three of you started dancing together in the grass, laughing. Morgan joined in soon after, the four of you dancing as Rossi, Hotch, and Spencer stood on the patio, watching you.
"Any song requests?" Rossi asked, spinning the remote to the speakers around in his hand.
"Rossi, just play some of the dirtiest, most profound music you've ever heard!" You called out to him. Garcia and Morgan cheered along in excitement with you as JJ laughed, shaking her head.
Rossi and Hotch exchanged glances before a wide smile formed on Rossi's lips, promptly following your request. You ran over to Penelope, grabbing her by the hips as she started grinding on you, laughing hysterically. Your eyes flicked to Spencer standing on the patio, watching you, the biggest grin on his face.
Rain started to fall and the four of you gasped, JJ quickly putting her hands above her head as she ran beneath the refuge of the patio, the three of you yelling at her. "I'm not dancing in the wet grass!" She cried.
"Fine. That's not stopping me from doing this, though," you said before running after Spencer, grabbing him by the hands as he looked at you, wide-eyed.
"(Y/N), no! No! No, (Y/N)!" He cried as you pulled him into the grass, the rain dripping over your bodies as Morgan and Garcia kept dancing, laughing as Spencer glared at you before a smirk formed on his lips, pointing at you as he said, "That's it."
You let out a loud shriek as he lunged after you, bursting into a fit of laughter when he slipped on a patch of wet grass, shaking your head at him. "Oh, come on, Spencer! Seriously!?" You cried as he stood up, groaning as he looked down at his wet clothes.
He looked up at you before lurching forward again, wrapping his arms around your waist before he swung you over his shoulder. You let out a loud laugh, kicking your legs against him as he spun you around in the rain, Morgan and Garcia laughing. "Oh, watch out, Garcia! Watch out!" Morgan cried, grabbing her hand. "They might start tearing their clothes off again!"
"I hate you!" You cried as you lifted your head, looking at him. "Spencer, get him!"
You felt like you were literal children as Spencer charged after Morgan, letting out a loud battle cry as Morgan took off, laughing. Spencer slipped again, bucking his knees as he gasped, and you slipped, collapsing on top of Morgan as you fell in the grass, laughing. "Oh, man," you laughed, pushing a hand through your wet hair. "That was fun."
"Yeah, until one of us falls," Morgan groaned, pushing you off of him.
You giggled, sitting in the grass beside him as you rubbed his back, asking, "Aw, are you okay, baby? I'm sorry."
The sound of your laughter echoed around the backyard, the sound of Hotch's phone ringing in the background barely discernible. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, walking away from you as he brought it up to his ear, answering it with, "Hello?"
Spencer helped you to your feet, kissing your forehead as Morgan wrapped his arm around Garcia's waist, shaking his head at you. "You guys really are meant for each other, huh?" Morgan asked, smirking at you.
Hotch's head perked up at the words he heard on the other end of the phone, his eyes flicking over to you and Spencer standing in the pouring rain with Morgan and Garcia, laughing.
You leaned your head against Spencer's arm, giggling as you said, "I'm surprised you guys didn't see it sooner."
"Yes, I understand," Hotch said, nodding his head. You finally looked over at him, smiling at him as he looked back at you. The look on his face worried you— he looked cold, intense. "Thank you for letting me know."
"Spence," you whispered, squeezing his hand. Spencer looked over at Hotch. He looked at both of you before disappearing around the corner of the house, motioning with his head for you to follow him. Your eyes flicked to Spencer before pulling him behind you, following after Hotch.
"What is it? What happened?" You asked as you pushed your wet hair out of your face, looking at Hotch as your heart started to race, gulping nervously.
"Something came up," he replied, looking between you and Spencer.
"Like?" Spencer asked, his hand squeezing yours.
"It's about Norah," he replied. "You need to get to Quantico as soon as possible. The director needs to speak to both of you right away."
The End.
