As the Baudelaires met in the lobby that night, they felt exhausted. Not physically, mentally. They didn't want to be flaneurs anymore. They didn't want to have to help kit. Why couldn't isabelle just help her?

They each felt bad. They hadn't stayed with her. And now she was probably with Olaf.

Klaus thought about how smart she was.

Violet thought about how many times she helped them through all of the scary situations.

Sunny didn't think about the past or the present. She thought about Thursday. What would happen?

Klaus: we have to help isabelle

Violet: but how?

"Concierge! I need your help!"

The Baudelaires looked to the elevator. Frank or Ernest smiled as he walked toward them.

Sunny: volunteer.

Violet: I think she means she wants to help.

Frank/Ernest: good, follow me.

Sunny walked her way to the elevator with the man.

Klaus: I have this note, sunny gave it to us.

Violet: I remember that.

Violet: it meant kit. But what if it has a double meaning?

Klaus: maybe if we use these 4 numbers in different combinations and push all three buttons at the same time on the elevator then it will take us somewhere.

Violet: that's brilliant! You're brilliant!

Klaus: isabelle is brilliant.

Soon, Sunny came back and the two eldest Baudelaires told sunny of thier plan.

They walked to the elevator and went inside.

Klaus: well we know we cant use both 1's. Let's try 192.

192 did not work. The elevator stood still.

Violet: now 920.

They each pushed a number.The elevator started to go down.

Sunny: basement.

Sunny was partially right. The elevator went past the basement.

Klaus: is there a room below the basement that isabelle wanted us to find?

The elevator doors opened.

"Kit?"

Violet: looks like we are in the right place.

A door on the end of the small room started to open.The room looked like a library. There was a desk in the middle of the room. A vent came in from the roof and papers were in the box underneath the vent.

A man came in from the door, he looked exactly like frank and Ernest. He smiled.

Klaus: what is this place?

Violet: why did isabelle send us here?

Sunny: frank? Or Ernest?

Frank/Earnest: to answer your question, klaus, this is a secret library. To answer your question, violet, its because I am her step father. To answer your question, sunny, my name is Dewey Denemont.

The Baudelaires looked at him, thier eyes widened.

Violet: how come isabelle and kit didn't tell us about you?

Dewey: my existence is secret. Which suits me well, because my work is secret.

He opened the door.

Dewey: follow me, Baudelaires.

The Baudelaires did as the man said and followed him through the door he had came in from.

Dewey: these are VFD's secret tunnels.

Violet: we went in one of these when we went to the headquarters.

Dewey: as, I am sorry you had to see it when it was burned down.

Klaus read the names on signs and things people had etched on the walls of the tunnel.

Klaus: Olaf was here.

Dewey turned to look at what klaus was reading.

Dewey: when the schism happened Olaf would walk these tunnels. Kit told me about how after she broke thier engagement, he would walk for hours.

Violet: he felt lost.

Dewey: and we guess that one night the man with a beard but no hair, and the woman with hair but no beard found him and started being his mentor. I suppose he never lost his love for the theater.

Klaus: that must have been hard for him..

Dewey: everyone has hard times. Everyone.

The Baudelaires felt lost themselves.

Dewey: we are here.

The Baudelaires and Dewey climbed up a later and came out a door lock, violet recognized the front of the hotel.

Violet: why are we here?

Dewey: to look at the pond.

They followed him to the edge of the pond and looked down at it with him.

Klaus: what are we looking at.

Dewey: below this pond is a secret library.

Violet: why are you telling us?

Dewey turned to the Baudelaires.

Dewey: after Thursday Kit and I are leaving VFD to raise our child. I would like to bring Isabelle with us, as a surprise for her. The library will need a new librarian. Or two. With the help of a biter. We have many cookbooks here for sunny.

Sunny smiled.

Klaus: are you sure?

Dewey: I feel you Baudelaires can handle it. You are smart children.

Violet: before we accept, we do have 1 question.

Dewey smiled.

Violet: what is in the sugarbowl?
