Eyes of Kai:

As I began to read my favorite book after I got out of the car, it evoked emotion in me.When I met my ex fiance Desmond I felt like he was the right choice and would make my parents happy.But from day 1 he had tried to change me..He was an attorney I met through my dad at his retirement party they had been working side by side in cahoots with Desmond's father who Co-Owns NYC's middle distract law firm..He was on his way to make partner and I just wanted to be the best for everyone around me..I thought I was doing the right thing.I was at the time, climbing to the top of the ladder pole in the Real Estate world at the office in my career and I thought we'd become the dream team.Not even a month into our relationship I seen his true colors of his alcoholic narcissistic, evil ways.The red flags had always been there but my confidence in men were slim to none.Or was it the confidence within myself?All the ways I was pampering myself and going out my way to embrace a "European Beauty" for him.I didn't know who I was anymore, I lost my self value and self worth..Not just as a woman or black woman but as a beautiful curvaceous queen.I hadn't found my worth and was too high up my horse to seek else where.I said I wanted a black successful man and was willing to pay all the prices and cover up all Desmond's bullshit for show.All the while suffering slowly.But sitting here makes me realize many things.Like how I'm not even happy with my career..I don't want to be in this real estate business, I hate the competition at the office.I want to be a hair stylist, always have.But my mother being who she was said her and my dad wouldn't let me have a stereo typical career.She told me a black women doing hair is like a black woman having lots of baby daddies, eating watermelon and eating fried chicken..Me and my mom always seen things like day and night..Total opposites, she loved me strong don't get me wrong it's just that her outlook on life was way too far fetched, senseless and outrageously distasteful and way too rude for my liking.My dad on the other hand would always find ways to sneak and make me happy, though he was over protective by nature he meant well I could always go to him and talk about anything and he would just get me.But one thing I know is they won't get Joshua.Joshua has tattoos, Harlem Slang, in their eyes "gangster demeanor" and thug like qualities.And though all that may be true if taken in the right context is what's so damn beautiful about him, it's what drew me to him even when I thought he was rude.That all on him is something I never knew would make me feel this way.And at this point I really don't care who feels a way about that.I'm sick of doing things the right way to please everybody around me, I've done that all my life.I'm doing shit Kai's way from now on.And if the new shit that Kai's on is the wrong way than DAMMIT SO BE IT!The wrong way it is!I don't know what being around Joshua will do but I want to experience it all.The first thing I gotta do is get my own spot.That's and absolute MUST!They won't like it but if they truly care and love me they'll understand.Besides all of that, something in me wanted to make sure him and Marina we're okay.I mean like really OKAY, not just to make random conversation.I knew one thing, if he was as deep into the game as I figured he was, I wanted to be there for Marina in anyway I could without over stepping my boundaries.I battled myself before I actually text Joshua.About what I should say that wouldn't sound completely in-genuine and pressed or forced.After texting him I realized three things..First thing is; I wasn't sure if he was a fast texter or really just genuinely into what I came with as a whole.Two: I could ALWAYS come to him and tell him anything the way he made me feel..And Three: Ducks can fly too..

Now that may not mean as much to alot of woman.Some women want clothes, jewelery, & wealth for a man to show his appreciation..Some woman need compliments..But not me!Joshua didn't lie to me or try to put up a front and say what he thought I wanted to hear..That let me know he wasn't just trying to get in my pants.He could've said anything in the world to me but he just simply said ducks fly too.And no matter where me and he land with one another in each other's life's I will always remember that.Those three words meant so much to me.It let me know that no matter who you were or what your sacher was in life...What's meant for you will be for you, eventually no matter how long it may take anyone can fly..

I got myself together because Joshua was on his way..But before I left I went to go let Taylor know that I was heading out and to make sure she's okay."T.."I whispered sitting by her lightly shaking her..She wiggled slowly and turned my way..She stretched wiping her eyes and opening them.

"What's poppin' Mama's?"She said turning over reaching for the lamp and turning it on..

"I'm sorry for waking you up I just wanted to let you know I'm heading out w.."

"With Joshua?"She said smiling sitting up some more..

I nodded my head.."Mmhhmm."

"Good, go have fun but don't forget what I told you.."

I got quiet for a second than nodded slowly."I won't, but enough of that, will you be okay?"

"Girl I'm Taylor! I'm gone be OKAY! Shit!"

I shook my head grabbing her hand.."You know what I mean, will you be OKAY?"

She just smiled reaching over turning back off the lamp and laying back down.."Bye Kai!"

"T!"

"I love you too Kai, don't do anything I wouldn't do!"

"Buuuut, you do everything you're basically a whore soooo?"I said rolling my head and eyes with my wrist pointed outwards..

"Exactly, now get out of my room!'

"But this is MY DADS ESTATE!"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah my dad, your dad, his dad they all leave to stand in long Walmart lines eventually sis now close the door behind you, thank you kindly!"

"That's what you really on right now?"

"And bring me back a cheeseburger from Mackies so I can get my grub on bird!"I shook my head closing the door.."AND EXTRA MAYO, NO LETTUCE, ONION OR MUSTARD!"

I went downstairs to grab my wallet and phone when I seen a text..It read: I'm at the door.I didn't know whether to be creeped out or what..I opened the door still shocked even though I had prior warning to his being there..

He smiled staring me up and down like he wasn't trying to miss a spot."You requested a rescue service?"

I smiled followed with small giggles that brought out my girlish teenage charm.."I did."I said putting my hand on my hip immediately giving off an abundance sass..

"Okay, alright mam' no need to be all tight an aggressive I'm just doing my duty!"

"You're DUTY?"I said turning up my face with the screw lips looking up at him hovering me like branches in the wild.

"Yup, all citizens of Kai LAND ALL ABOARD!"He turned around stooping on the ground off of the door step..

I was cracking up trying to stay quiet it was going on 3 AM."What are you doing, get up from there!"

"Nah come on get on my back, when's the last time you heard a nigga hit you with that?!"He said looking all goofy and low eye'd

"Bruh I was like a thousand pounds lighter and well under five years old I'm ever so sure!"I said sassing him defyingly..He gave me puppy eyes..He's nothing like anyone who were to prejudge him could EVER IMAGINE!"Joshua come on quit playing and get up BOY!"

"Not until you get on my back, we can do this all year I ain't got nothin' but mad time!"He said looking at his Rolex.."See I got proof, the rollie neva' lies."

"I'm too heavy for all that!"I said shooing him off with a smirk..

"Says who?"He said raising his brows like he was disappointed..

"ME NIGGA!"I said instantly covering my mouth..I wasn't one to use that word like that or curse alot for that matter.Just wasn't my style and I wasn't ever gonna pretend it was.He smiled shaking his head..

"Man, come on and get on my shoulders if not I'ma have to be forced to pick you up over my shoulders and spank you all the way across the street to the car for defying my command! And I got big hands so what's up, what's up gonna be?"

"You for real?"

"Kai."He said getting tired of the fuss and bicker as he went for my thighs..

I screamed.."OKAY, OKAY STOP! I'LL GET ON.."

"Ight than come on! Tryna play me like I can't handle you."I came his way behind him and he reached up and pulled me up by my thighs"Chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga CHO CHO! ALL ABOARD THE J TRAIN, THIS WILL BE A ONE WAY TONIGHT FOLKS! NO FIGHTING OR SHOVING, KEEP ALL HANDS FEET AND OBJECTS IN THE ISLE! CHO! CHO!"And before I knew it I was seeing the world from Joshua's angle of life as I was being carried on his back as he jogged around the streets spinning in circles bouncing me around..

"AHHH! Put me down what the HELL are you doing you said to the car that's it! Put me down!"

"Man just enjoy the ride and have fun, I GOT THIS!"He said spinning me around some more..And I couldn't help but trust in him close my eyes and feel the wind chills from the New York Harlem town air as we veered off effortlessly in the night wind that howled a melody I never heard before.Before I even realized we stop and he somehow managed to get me in the car in one piece there we were..Slightly breathing hard rejuvenated from the magic that just partook between the chemistry of us to being that close and intimate.When I say intimate I mean a whole other level of intimacy.I looked out the window nervously panting, I felt so young and carefree..He started the car and turned on the air.But got back comfortable in his seat like he had no plans on going anywhere anytime soon.I could feel him glancing at me.I looked over at him and he tried to play it off looking away and shortly after I did the same..We went on like this for two whole minutes.Just imagine what two minutes alone with your crush would do to you..I wasn't sure what the hell I REALLY meant to Joshua at this point but I would be lying if I were to say I didn't have a huge crush on him..Somehow giving me the same feelings Alicia gave me every single time I hear Teenage Love Affair.

"Why you keep sizing me up?!"He said braking the golden silence that was far from awkward.

"Don't flatter yourself!"I said shaking my pointer finger at him as he chuckled with his hands up in a surrendering fashion.

"Man whatever girl I see you checkin' me out cause a nigga be lookin' like a pantry allah time an shit.."

I rolled my eyes.."Yea OKAY WHATEVA'!"

He smiled biting his bottom lip shaking his head and rubbing his beard.."Yeah you know what it really is tho."

"I guess."I said as it went back silent..I felt like I was finally getting to do all the things and be all the things I wanted to be when I was alone with a man..The way I always pictured it, natural and crazy sparks flying like the month of July.I broke the silence and suspense we both had that was heavy enough to pick up and throw like a winter snow ball on a cold Chicago night.."Why'd you do that?"

"What pick you up for a piggy back ride?"I shrugged nodding yes."Hea' we go with this shrug and nod shit again."He sighed just shaking his head at me.."You sunin' else man..You think just cause you a little thick can't nobody swoop you up."He said raising his eyebrows as I laughed.."Such a cornball man anywho, I don't know I mean okay to be honest a lot of reasons..I ain't gone lie the first thing that crossed my mind was how thick your thighs were I had to know if they were as soft as they always seem."

I lifted my brows not offended just curious."Well were they?"

"Let's just say you always aim to fulfill and please in this short amount of time since knowing you, every since you walked into my world at Arlo's Kai."I shyly smiled looking off.

He took his right pointer finger placing it softly under my chin and facing me back towards him.."You don't have to be so nervous or shy, I'm already that way around you for the both of us.. I always want you mad comfy..I'm sorry if I make you nervous, I don't want you to eva' feel that way around me.."

"It's okay I um, I'm actually enjoying this.."

He nodded.."Cool cool but back to the question at hand I um..Beside your obvious angelic beauty.. I really just wanted to hear your laugh in my ear and see you have fun, let loose a little a smile. To show you that I wasn't all uptight as I came off.."He grunted his teeth as his veins popped out the side of his forehead.."I know you know what I do for a living Huh?"I just nodded not wanting to interrupt.."Yeah well my work life is not me, it's just the cards I was dealt, literally passed down to me I was sort of undeniably destined to be around it some kind of way..And I ain't blaming nobody, ain't nobody put a gun to my head and tell me to keep up with this lifestyle either I knew the risk I was takin' and I took them..But I'm in a different place and all I'm sayin' is I'm not whateva' you think of me.."

I rubbed his beard..It's weird how life works, a long time ago I remember my mom telling me if you go to rub a man's beard and he pulls away it speaks volumes..Yet Joshua didn't flench, the irony in that itself is so uncanny I would need a whole book to brake down the science of how things are aligning at this point..She'd never allow or approve of me being with a guy like Joshua.Only because she wanted me to either find a replica of my dad or be alone..But here he was not pulling away.The irony."Joshua what I think of you is what you've given to me..That's nothing less of being a sweet, courteous, carefree, wild, loving and honest guy..Nothing about you is phony..I need that, I've always needed that around..You're like the male version of Taylor!"•

I through up man hands.."Hey LOOK, you said Joshua, Joshua Almighty world wide handsome with the sexy beard tall stature and long ZADDY braids please come save me from EVERYTHING!"

She was cracking up laughing.."OHH PLEASE WHATEVER CHILL OUT, PIPE DOWN YOUNG MAN!"

"Yeah okay look all I'm saying is that you said come save ya cornball ass you didn't say you was gone give me gas money to be running you back and fourth!"

She got wide eye hitting my shoulders.."SHUT UP!"

"What I'M DEAD ASS! and I want my 10 dollars for coming all this way too!"I said as she shooed me off..

"Negro you stay not even far enough for it to go that deep.."

"Yeah okay you heard what I said!"She just continued to be shy and smile.."Let me feed you."She just said yes without putting up a fight or hesitating.."Cool but since I'm cookin', you payin'!"I said looking her way as we had a stare down

"Boy bye you got it chief, you big ballin'.."She said raising the roof..

I was dying laughing she was such a cornball just like my daughter.."Really that's what you do, what year is this 1993 or 2019 I'm confused help me out!"

She smiled licking her lips unknowingly and crossing her arms with her little sexy as sass and attitude..She rolled her eyes.."Chiiiiiiiiill you bonkers right now!"

"ChIlL yOu BonKeRs rIghT nOw.."I said playfully mimicking her cute ass.."But nah I'm broke, drug life is hard baby.. but you got me tho right?"I said putting the car in drive about to pull off looking over at her.

"So what's up you got me or what?"I asking sizing her up then turning back towards the road..

Not even five minutes later at the crib..

"Okay let's do this!"She said taking off my bandana I had on around my braids..

I just wiggled, I was so curious!I didn't know if this was a setup of what?What probably only took three minutes tops felt like days when you're a blind folded drug dealer in you own home with such a beautiful intelligent woman..I really was risking it all at this point.."Uh, KAI! Baby I think you're mad dope and allat but can you hurry this up I'm getting.."But before I could finish I heard Jay-Z and Beyoncé 03' Bonnie and Clyde playing in the background..She was laughing and I couldn't take it off my blind fold fast enough only to see she had on my New York Yankees fitted with a whole other outfit on that she changed into she must've had it underneath..My eyes went buck!DAMN!I said admiring her daring full figure in what she had on.The fact that she felt comfortable to let her self show this way in front of me said a great deal..I admired her in so many ways.You woman get your heart broken by cornballs and still find a way to let go of the hurt and re open your heart

It's not secret that by this time I had on the matching hat like her with my daughters glitter brush in my hand and besides Marina NO WOMAN has ever gotten me to dress up for them ever! The things I would do for and to this girl is just a dangerous combo!

The crazy thing is I think I was actually more into this than her and it wasn't just the good blunt I was floating on..Me:YOU READY K?

He was so into it he couldn't even see that I had stopped rapping along when he said I'll do anything necessary for Kai..Why would he say that if he didn't mean it?It's just a song, I know but he said it differently..

He was about to bust his big tall ass head trying to Hit the woah and Milly Rock when he finally stop dancing and walked up to the TV turning it off..He walked up to me grabbing my hand.."What's wrong ma?"

"Why would you say that?"I asked as he winced at my question..

"Cause it's the truth! So don't let the necessary OCCUR!"He said once again grabbing my chin with his pointer finger..And we just stared at one another before he kissed me..I hesitated than exhaled as I naturally gave in and than he gently grabbed my waist and pulled me back letting me go once again falling down from heaven..I opened my eyes looking up at him.."So don't let the necessary occur?"He said shrugging his shoulders..

"YUP!"I said finishing his statement..•

I couldn't let this night go without a kiss..I couldn't front like I didn't wanna be in the friend zone.I wanted her to see where I was at least trying to head, what I wanted us to become..

"Come lay wit me."I said as I plopped down on my oversized king couch patting beside me there was more than enough room and I was glad I was finally using the space that had been empty for the longest.

"I thought you was gone hook it up in the kitchen.."

"First of all your broke ass didn't wanna pay for shit!"She dropped her jaw and shook her head laughing...

"EXCUSE ME?!"

"You're excused! Like I said nerd.. and my back hurt!"

"Well you the one that wanted to play like a damn camel or horse!"She said laughing plopping down by me laying against me..

"Aye it ain't my fault you thicker than life."

"Yeah and it ain't my fault you got chicken legs and skipped out on leg DAY!"She said wide eye'd

"DAMN, NO LOVE ALL NIGHT HUH? IT'S REALLY LIKE DAT!?"I said putting my hand across my chest where my heart lay..I heard her yawn as she lay against my chest closer..

"Kai?"It was quiet.."Kai?"I whispered giving her slight shakes.."Woooow that's foul son!"

"Joshua?"She called my name faintly..

"What's up baby girl?"

"Shut up I'm sleepy!"OH WORD WORD!I said to myself..."Joshua?"

"What's up Kai?"I asked looking down at her..

"Thanks for rescuing me."She said quickly going to sleep..

"Nah, nah shorty thanks for rescuing me.."I whispered in her ear covering her up with the throw blanket behind us and kissing her cheek.."I feel like I have the potential to protect myself as a man because of that.. so thank you, I've never been accepted by a woman in this way besides my daughter, my mother hates my guts.."I whispered sighing.."Night Kai..."She snored lightly catching her breath, I shook my head laughing..

"Good night Joshua."
