Chapter Five

Bryce got home at 6:33. He glanced over at Liam, then looked over at Texty. "All charged up?" He asked. "yup, why?" She replied. "Just curious. I'm gonna call Owen and see how he's doin' about the road trip thing," Bryce explained.

Bryce sat on the couch, and took Liam's phone from the side table. He rang Owen's number and got an answer shortly after.

"Hello?""Heya Owen, how're ya doin'?""I'm just arriving in Bridgeport. Hey, you never really told me your name, did you?""Right, right, sorry. My name's Bryce, the sketchy guy that calls you on the phone to tell you your friend should be hospitalized."Owen chuckled a bit."Alright, I'll see you in a bit.""See ya."

Bryce hung up first, then went back to the kitchen to make some dinner. He pulled out a pack of pasta and began cooking, while humming a tune.

"you seem pretty cheerful today, what happened to 'i love you like an alcoholic' bryce?"

"Got a raise, and- wait, what?"

"you heard what i said"

"Isn't that a song?"

"and its an accurate description of you last night"

"Listen, if you bring that up again, then I'm shutting you off."

"i can just turn myself back on bro, how do you think i was on when you woke up from your blackout?"

Bryce stared blankly, rummaging through his brain to find the memory.

"I guess I just wasn't really thinking about that."

"cuz you were too busy having a hangover"

Bryce gives Texty a look, like he's trying to silently say "You really gonna do this right now?"

"you're all talk, aren't ya?"

"I'm just going to keep making my pasta."

"aight, enjoy your pasta making"

- 20 minutes later -

"Alrighty, dinner is served."

"wishin i had some of that spaghetti rn"

"Hey, don't worry, I can make some for you real quick."

"what- how-"

Bryce pulled up MSPaint, and quickly scribbled a bowl of spaghetti for Texty.

"Here ya go."

"mmm yom"

"Thank you, I worked hard on that pasta."

"yea for about two seconds"

Bryce chuckled. Just then, while they were talking, he heard a knock at the door.
