Last Dance
00:22, 3 September 2024-You have to tell him, Jeongin looked Jisung straight in the eyes.
-Do I? the latter tried to dodge the duty.
-Yes, Jeongin replied dully. He needs to know.
-But I'm not sure I can tell him, Jisung hugged his knees.
-How much time do you have left? Felix stopped talking on the phone to ask Jisung a question.
-One week at best.
-ONE WEEK? I better get the venue ready!
-Venue? Jisung raised his eyebrow.
-Ah... For-for a friend! he's getting married and- Felix mumbled in panic.
-For me? Jisung asked Jeongin who was the most likely to keep his calm.
-For you.
-This is my present for you, alright? I've worked too much for this relationship, Felix defended his choice.
-You do realise that your brother will be a widow, right? Jeongin asked.
-But he'll have happy memories. This is pure love! We're doing this! he started freaking out.
-Sounds like you're the one in the relationship, not Jisung hyung.
-Yeah, Lix. I appreciate the work you put in for us, but don't neglect your own relationship for us, alright? Jisung helped Felix sit down.
-My relationship... That's complicated, he tried to change the subject.
He wanted to avoid thinking of that night. He didn't know how to express his feelings and it seemed unfair to talk to Changbin about it until he was 100% sure.
-So you have 7 days left. 6 and one to commit suicide. Speaking of wich, have you thought of how you'd do it? Jeongin adressed the elephant in the room.
-Not really, Jisung gulped.
-Jumping off a building?
-No.
-Hanged?
-No.
-Pills?
-I don't... Jisung took a deep breath before organizing his thoughts. Whatever I pick, don't let Minho find my body. Clear?
-What about drowning? If you're planing to take the curse with you, you might as well take it to the bottom of the ocean.
-Yeah... That should work, Jisung forced a smile.
-I- I should go check the venue today, Felix exited the room in a rush.
Jeongin looked at Jisung and felt a weight pressing on his chest. In 7 days he'll have to watch him die. Jisung's sacrifice would end Han family's misery. and Yang's too. No more cursed people, no more executioners.
-Oh, before I forget: I wrote a couple of songs for Changbin, Jisung handed Jeongin some papers.
-The comeback... Jeongin stared at the lyrics. I have an idea! he got up and walked outside to call someone.
-Woah! Careful, buddy! Minho moved out of Jeongin's way. Should I ask? he took a seat next to Jisung and started playing with his hand.
-You know the kid. Always stressed, Jisung shrugged.
-He needs to lose the coffee a bit, Minho joked. How are you today? he tucked a strand of hair behind Jisung's ear.
-Better now. Your brother has too much energy, by the way.
-He does. And so do I today. I've got plans! he smirked.
-Oh, really?
-Yes. A romantic date in the park and lunch.
-And who's the lucky bastard that accompanies you? Jisung raised an eyebrow.
-You, baby. Duh! Get dressed! It's just the two of us today, Minho smiled as he kissed Jisung shortly.
They stalled a bit in the bed before heading to the closest park to enjoy their date.
Jisung knew he had to say it. He had to tell Minho the truth. And that was the day he would do it. It had to be. He just needed the perfect moment to bring it up.
-Look! Swans! Minho pointed to the almost frozen lake.
He was rubbing his hands together, trying to warm himself up as he snuggled his nose into his scarf.
An adorable sight if you were to ask Jisung who couldn't take his eyes off him.
-I heard swans have only one partner and when he or she dies, the one left usually commits suicide. To die of a broken heart... Seems the cruelest sentence of all, Minho added.
-Yeah...
Jisung felt the guilt creeping in under his skin and slowly reaching his soul like the cold air of December.
Minho deserved to know. Why was he such a coward? why couldn't he say it? why couldn't he get it over with? why was he so weak?
-Minho, I-
-Oh my God, there's a little duck with them! Minho went to take a closer look.
Jisung stared at the pair of swans and their smaller friend and realized that maybe the Swan was not meant to be alone after all. the remaining one had the duck to keep her company. Perhaps their friends would help Minho survive. Even so he had the right to know.
Jisung took a deep breath to gather his courage and went to confess to Minho properly.
However, the older was nowhere to be found.
He had closed his eyes for a few seconds. How was that possible?
-Minho? Minho! Minho, this isn't funny? Minho! Jisung looked around slowly panicking.
Every horrific scenario came in his mind like a flash. Did he slip and fall into the water? Did he froze to death? Was he hurt? Kidnapped?
-Minho! he screamed from the top of his lungs before a hand squeezed his shoulder slightly.
He turned around and met with the older carrying two plastic cups of hot chocolate.
Jisung let a tear escape his eye as he tried to calm himself down.
He thought he lost Minho. He pictured him dead. He greeved him for a few seconds. and the worst part? Minho would feel 100 times worse after his inevitable death.
-I thought you'd want some chocolate, Minho uttered shyly. I-I'm sorry!
-It's fine, Jisung whiped his face. Let's continue! he forced a smile.
After they devoured their drinks, they passed by a speaker hanged in a tree.
The park had an outside theater and the speakers were usually used for projection nights. When no event was scheduled, music would be randomly playing in different corners of the park.
-Is that YOUHA? I love this song! Minho smiled widely as he recognised the intro of "Last dance".
Jisung reached his hand and invited his partner to balance from side to side with him. His hands landed on Minho's waist as the latter relaxed his owns on Jisung's shoulders.
-You'll be my last dance, Sungie. No one can make me half as happy as I am now, Minho blurted out.
-Did you just get drunk on hot choco? Jisung snorted.
-I mean it! I love you so much! It's frustrating because I can't express in words how much I do! You saved me! I don't even know what I was doing with my life before I met you.
-You were you, Minho. The kind intelligent man that didn't shy away from helping people. I love you too, Minho! I adore you, my God!
Minho scrunched his red nose and shut his eyes up as his smile reached his ears. He was devastatingly happy. The corners of his mouth were hurting. He was burning under all those layers.
He hid his face into Jisung's chest and let his boyfriend wrap his hands around him.
-Are you shy, baby? Jisung laughed.
-I'm weak for you. It's different.
-If you say so. Let's go eat!
...
-This one.
-Are you sure?
-Yes. I'm sure he'll like it, Jeongin nodded.
-How would you know that, sweety? the old lady asked.
-Oh, he's still alive. My friend.
-I see... Terminal illness? she asked with sadness plastered all over her face.
-Yeah. Something like that, Jeongin gulped anxiously as he looked at the coffin he had picked up for Jisung.
One of his duties as a reaper. A work that was not for the weak.
