His rainbow
09:08, 16 January 2024Minho woke up in the hospital bed.
Alone.
He could have sworn he fell asleep cuddling Jisung. So where was he?
Outside a heavy spring rain was pouring over the latter.
He was drenched to the core. The cold wind was crawling under his shirt and on his back, engulfing him into a feeling of uneasiness.
He had seen rain before. He had felt it on his skin for 400 years. But it never felt that real.
Rain was just passing. Never staying for too long. Never a constant. And right there and then...
...Jisung was the rain.
Every droplet that landed on him was another second he was alive. And he caught himself counting them.
He watched the highway in front of him, the trees dangling because of the wind, the kids exchanging umbrellas and the grass blades bending in front of the mighty rain.
Tomorrow it will pass and not even a shadows of its glory would remain. Everything would dry. Everything would heal. Like the rain had never happened. No one would be hurt, no one would cry.
Jisung wanted that. To be the rain. To pass by and leave no trace.
Oh, to be the rain...
And if Jisung was the rain, his rainbow was no one but...
-Minho, Jisung mumbled as he felt a pair of hands hugging him from behind.
-What are you doing here, baby? You'll catch a cold, he sounded worried.
Wherever was rain, was also a rainbow to follow. Wherever was Jisung, Minho would follow and clean the mess and establish the peace. The rainbow didn't exist without rain and Minho couldn't live without Jisung.
-I woke up early and I saw the rain... I wanted some air anyway, Jisung explained.
-It's a nice weather, Minho looked up as he rested his head on Jisung's shoulder.
-You like rain?
-I love rain, Minho replied. Felix hates it, but I... I feel at ease when it rains.
Jisung chuckled. Of course he did.
-I hope it rains when I die, Jisung confessed.
-Why is that? Minho tightened his grip on Jisung.
-So I wouldn't see you crying. I would just see the rain.
-What makes you think you'll die first?
-A gut feeling, Jisung sighed. We should go inside. You'll get sick.
-And you won't? Minho laughed.
-I don't really give a crap about my health, Jisung shrugged. But if something happens to you, I'll go feral.
-It must be hard to believe, but I think the same, Minho saw Jisung turning towards him.
-I don't know, Lee... You sound like a bad boy now, Jisung smiled.
-I am very bad, for your information.
-Show me! Jisung smirked.
Minho nodded and pulled Jisung closer by the collar.
Their breaths mixed, their noses touched and their lips opened in expectation.
Minho stepped back, leaving Jisung on edge and all red.
-Got you, Minho winked.
-You bastard! Jisung opened his mouth in shock.
He hugged Minho tightly and started tickling him.
Just another droplet, another second, just another moment in which he can hear Minho's laugh.
Please...
Let the rain last a bit longer. Don't let the rainbow vanish yet.
They went back to the hospital room hand in hand.
On their way there they spotted Felix passed out on the bench on the hall. Next to him there was Jeongin on the floor, with his hand rested on Felix's lap.
Jisung placed a short kiss on Felix's head and patted Jeongin. They stayed for him...
He glanced at the papers Felix had next to him and read just one simple word: wedding.
-What did you see? Minho asked curious.
-I think... I think I have an idea.
-Care to share?
-Not yet. You'll see, he smiled.-There you are! Seungmin rushed towards them.
He spotted his best friend and boyfriend sleeping on the bench and Jisung's hand wrapped in bandages.
-What happened? he asked with a heavy breath.
-They came here to keep me company... I did something stupid again, Jisung let his head down in shame.
-Are you... Are you alright?
-I'm okay, Jisung smiled shyly.
-At least they're not fighting, Seungmin glanced at his two favourite idiots.
-I've never seen Felix sleep so peacefully, Minho chuckled.
Suddenly Minho's phone buzzed.
-Oh, it's Hyunjin. I'll be right back! he said before leaving to answer the call.
-You're soaked, Seungmin looked at Jisung.
-I've had it worse, Jisung shrugged.
-I'll bring you new clothes, Seungmin said before being stopped by Jisung.
-The apartment... The blood is still there. Minho and Felix haven't seen it yet. Just me and Chan.
-I see... I'll clean it for you, Seungmin stated.
-Why? Why would you do that?
-We may be not that close, Jisung, but Felix and Minho hyung don't just get attached to any brat they find on the street. They love you and for me it's enough.
-I'll prove myself to you, Jisung promised.
-You don't need to, Seungmin reassured him. You've been an idiot, but a funny one. And you've always set the scores back. I respect that. Besides... I understand you're going through some shit right now. Been there, done that. We're not that different as you think. I'm just gonna say this, he hugged Jisung out of the blue. I'm glad you're still here with us.
Jisung wrapped his arms around him in silence.
-You're doing great. If you need anything else, call me, alright?
Jisung nodded and let Seungmin go on his way.
Minho returned a bit confused and asked Jisung what happened.
-I think we just became friends.
-Only if you could do that with Chan hyung too, Minho sighed.
-I'm working on that, Jisung replied lost in his thoughts.
-I brought you lunch! Chan came to the shelter to check on Hyunjin.
The latter skipped to the older and kissed him.
-Hey! he smiled widely.
-How is work going?
-Pretty quiet. How is Jisung?
-Alive. That bastard put up a show and now you're forced to be here all day. I miss you, he dragged Hyunjin's body closer to his.
-I'm worried for him...
-Don't be. He's such a selfish spoiled kid. If he wanted to exit he should have broken up with Minho first.
Chan went in for another kiss but Hyunjin stepped back all of a sudden.
-What's wrong?
-I don't like how your treat him. He's my friend. And he's broken.
-We just can't stand each other. What doe this have to do with me asking for a kiss from you?
-I can't kiss someone that mocks a suicide attempt, Hyunjin stated dead serious.
-What are you saying? Chan froze in his tracks.
-I'm saying that I don't wanna touch you until you guys settles things. You can't just judge him like that. Maybe there's more to his story that you don't know.
-There's surely more of yours I don't know, Chan snapped.
Hyunjin was left speechless.
-That's right. Because I don't wanna talk about it. That doesn't mean the problem is not there, Hyunjin confessed.
-Is it about the ribbon?
-...yes, Hyunjin was taken aback by the fact that Chan noticed it.
-And you won't tell me what it about.
-Not until you become friends with Jisung. I don't trust you with my story if you treat him that badly. And I've never told anyone that story before.
-Hyunjin-ah... are you scared of me? Chan stepped forward and Hyunjin backed off until his back his the counter.
-These are my terms. I have to go back to work, he said looking Chan dead in the eye.
