Birthday party

22:33, 3 September 2022

If Minho never met Jisung, he wouldn't have taken him to the hospital

-Let's see, Jisung signed searching on his laptop "easy ways to end yourself". Maybe overdose? Some pills and a good sleep. Doesn't sound so bad, Jisung added.

He turned off the laptop and flopped on his bed.

-You're getting old, Jisung, he laughed. Now is so easy to die. Technology is indeed something remarkable. God, I sound so old and boring, he whined. 400 years, huh? I'm a walking relic.

-Lix? What's wrong? Minho asked after noticing his brother's odd behavior.

He was gloomy, spending time alone in his room with the cats and refusing to eat.

-I know their anniversary was last week and it's still hard, so you can talk to me and...

-It's not that, Felix cut him off.

-Then what is it?

-Jisung told me something and...I don't know if he meant it or not. I'm scared that he wasn't joking, Felix's bottom lip quivered.

-What did he say? Minho gently brushed the bangs off Felix's forehead.

-He said he wanted to commit... Hyung, I think this was his cry for help, Felix gripped tightly into Minho's sleeve until his knuckles turned white.

-What?

-Jisung is not the kind of guy to express his feelings. He keeps it to himself when he is in pain. I think at that moment...in the cemetery, next to his parents' graves... I think he asked me for help. I don't wanna see him go! Please!

-Ok. I will think of something. Find a way to make him talk to me, alright?

-I'm gonna plan a birthday party for Jisung! Minho proclaimed as he slammed his hands to the counter, gaining everyone's attention.

-Why? Chan asked in disgust.

-Because I've looked through his CV and realized his birthday is in two days. He lives alone, he has no friends and no family, so we are all he has.

-We are not his friends, Chan replied.

-And he is not gonna like it, Seungmin said.

-Please, Minnie! Felix begged with puppy eyes.

-Fine. I'm in, he rolled his eyes.

-Hyung? Minho asked Chan.

-I think it will be fun, Hyunjin uttered.

-I'm in, Chan replied almost immediately.

-Good. One of us needs to keep him busy while the others decorate around here, Minho jumped on the counter.

-My lady, I strongly believe you need to see the child. He has been crying for over an hour now, the maid said.

-I don't care, Mrs. Han said before taking a sip from her expensive wine.

The baby's screams were filling the house. Yet no one was there to take care of him.

-What is all this noise?

-Your son, she said unbothered.

-My son? Our son! Why aren't you taking care of him? her husband yelled at her.

-What point is in taking care of someone who is gonna die anyway?

-Are you kidding me? It's your sister's fault that he inherited that! Your damn cursed sister!

-She wasn't born with it! She inherited it from her husband.

-Because she was stupid enough to love a cursed man! It's all your fault that she is gone. Your love strangled her. And she passed the curse to our son! Take care of him! he hit the table with his fist. You should have let her jump. We wouldn't have been in this situation if she committed. Now her nephew has the same fate as her.

Present, Jisung's birthday -Thank you for helping me carry the groceries, Minho said looking for his keys.

-As long as you give me a raise, Jisung sighed.

Minho opened the door and turned on the lights, revealing birthday decorations, a cake and Felix, Seungmin, Hyunjin and Chan shouting Happy birthday to Jisung.

The latter was unfazed. With the same plain expression on his face, he looked around and saw the dinner they have prepared.

-What is this? he asked Minho.

-A surprise party. It's your birthday, right? Minho's smile slowly faded.

-Why? I'm sure you had better things to do. It's a waste of time.

-Because we care for you.

As you can imagine, Jisung had everything but fun at that party.

Yes, he was an introverted, antisocial and hard-to-like person, but he has feelings. And staying on the side, watching the others having fun and talking to each other while ignoring you at your own party wasn't the best experience for sure.

When he decided he had enough, he sneaked outside and sat down on the stairs, scratching his wrist.-There you are! Minho told me to find you, Chan went down the stairs and nudged Jisung to get out of his way.

The latter got up from the stairs and looked at Chan with dull half-opened eyes.

-I'm heading home, he said, putting his freezing hands in his pockets.

-Hey! Chan stopped him by grabbing his shoulder. We did something nice for you! Is this how you thank us?

-Aren't you a hypocrite full of yourself? Jisung spat back. You did it for yourself. Just to have a shot with Hyunjin. Leave me alone!

-Minho worked hard to do this. Felix likes you too. Why are you such a bitch?

-I was born like this. I guess is the only thing that we have in common.

-It's like you're begging for punches, Chan said before pushing Jisung.

The latter tripped and fell, his back hitting the stairs.

He remained down, wincing in pain under Chan's confused eyes.

-Stop with the joke! Get up!

After he saw Jisung couldn't stand up, he started panicking.

-Minho! Minho! he yelled through the staircase until Minho rushed down and saw the scene.

Jisung was taken to the hospital.

He was fine, just minor fractures and a nasty bruise above his tailbone.

But he refused to speak to Minho and Chan. Or the doctors.

He stayed quiet, laying on the hospital bed and staring at the white wall.

-How is he? Felix asked, bringing some flowers for Jisung.

Hyunjin was right behind him, looking worried as well.

-He's alright. But he won't talk to any of us, Chan said, glancing to Minho who was on the chair, trying to speak with Jisung.-Get out.

Hyunjin and Felix turned their heads towards Jisung who was now sitting on the edge of the bed staring into their souls.

-Get the fuck out you two! You are gonna be the death of me! Get out of my sight!

Felix hid behind Hyunjin while both exited the room.

Chan and Minho went after them to make sure they were ok, but when Minho returned to Jisung's room, the latter was long gone.

Jisung arrived home and saw a parcel in front of his door.

It was a painting of a boy and his mother at the beach shore next to a happy birthday note.

-Hyunjin...Jisung sighed.

Jisung started at the two silhouettes and a tear escaped the corner of his eyes. He missed his mother.

He was alone once again. Because he didn't deserve people around him. He deserved to die.
