Β When we arrived at the DX, Steve was eating a chocolate bar on top of the hood of a 1961 Pontiac Tempest.
"Hey guys!" He said, with a mouthful of chocolate as he waved at us.
"Hey Steve."
Steve looked at me, then grinned. "Watch this." He pressed the empty chocolate wrapper against Soda's chest like it was part of some highly professional stunt setup, then did a backflip off the car, landing on his feet.
"Wow," I chuckled, surprised. He didn't dent the car doing the backflip and landed perfectly on his feet, which to me, seemed like he begged God to atleast let him do a perfect backflip.
"How many falls did it take?" Sodapop laughed.
"Several, but worth the try." Steve responded, a wide smile tugging the corner of his lips like he'd absolutely do it again.
"'How d'you do that?"
"Superdope taught us how, he's a gymnast."
"He's the best one I know." Soda praised.
We got inside Steve's car, listening to the music they blasted on full volume. And yet they managed to understand each other as they talked over the music,
I rolled down the window, feeling the breeze caress my skin, as if the wind were to spare me from getting my eardrums irritated.
"Y/N!"
Soda hollered.
"What!?"
He raised a brow, "We called you like 60 times and you didn't respond!"
"Well with Elvis Presley playing out loud in the speakers I couldn't hear a word! I think I might be getting tinnitus!"
"Either way, we're going to two places today!"
Before I could ask where, I saw the colorful amusement park and rides crossing my view. I heard the laughs, the screams on the roller coaster, and immediately started questioning all my life choices.
"Wow."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" Sodapop said, as we all got out of the car and ran to the entrance. They helped me pay for my ticket and got in, feeling small under the huge rides around us. Steve, without a second thought or survival instinct, ran in line to the biggest roller coaster he could find.
"Steve, can we start off easy?"
"C'mon, it's going to be fun!" Steve replied, smirking like a man who fears nothing, including gravity.
Sodapop looked at me, "Do you wanna go? If you don't want to then you can wait here."
I took a deep breath and sighed. Coward. How can you be such a scaredy-cat over a simple, humongous ride that goes super fast and flips you around like clothes in a washing machine?
"Yeah, sure. Why not?" I lied, feeling like a wreck inside.
Sodapop took my hand and cut through the line to fall in step beside Steve, apologizing to the people for cutting in front of them.
It was terrifying to hear the screams of excitement and horror rushing with the rollercoaster. It made me terribly nervous, but I wasn't going to let go of an opportunity because of my stupid fears. Or at least, that's what I told myself while internally preparing my will.
The ride finished, and various passengers got out of their seats, expressing how fun the rollercoaster was. The ones that were scared looked relieved, like they had just survived something mildly life-threatening. When the ride operator called the next in line, I tugged tighter on Sodapop's hand. They took me to the front of the ride, making me sit in between.
"Nervous?" Sodapop asked.
I smiled briefly, trying to hide my fear, "Sort of." (Extremely nervous.)
"Hey don't worry, if you throw up when the ride starts it'll go back." Steve grinned.
Both Soda and I smacked the back of Steve's head.
When the ride began, I gripped tight on the handles hoping they could hold me from flying off the ride. Time immediately stopped being real.
Steve would tease me the whole entire time, "Aw Soda look at her, she can't stand rollercoasters!"
I tried to prove him wrong by raising my hands, but a ramp looked so near I thought it would've chopped my hands off if I let them raise. "Shut your trap!"
The rollercoaster took another crazy turn, after another, and after another.
"Y/n/n, are you alright?"
Not so long after the ride finished, my heart was still beating like it was trying to escape, but I felt the satisfaction of finally riding it. It wasn't bad... except for the part where it raised us to the top, paused like it was thinking about sparing our lives, and then dropped us.
"Pretty fun, eh?" Steve offered his hand for me to take as we got off.
"Thrilling." I chuckled, still mentally buffering.
I stepped on one foot and lost my balance. "Need help?"
"Help on whatβ?" Steve picked me up and placed me on Sodapop's back. I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck, surprised. "That wasn't necessary.." I blushed.
Soda shrugged, "Happened to Pony once. He couldn't walk after a rollercoaster ride. So I carried him." "Am I too heavy though?"
He chuckled, "Everyone's heavy. I can handle you."
I smiled, not aware of my comfortable lean against his body. Or the stares of the other people. Or the fact that my legs had officially clocked out for the day.
"Are you ready for more rides or do you want out?" He asked, setting me down on a bench.
"We can go easy first, then the roller coasters," I replied, pretending I hadn't just seen my life flash before my eyes.
"There are some kid roller coasters for you Y/n/n."
I glared at him playfully, "Whatever."
