When Extremes meet

18:49, 1 April 2022

Elira was waiting on the docks with Korra, Naga and her siblings. They were waving as the ferry with Bolin, Mako and Asami pulled up at the port.

"You're finally here!" Ikki grinned in excitement as an Air Acolyte threw the anchor in the water while two others let down the ramp to allow the passengers off.

"Welcooome to Air Temple Island. Your new home."

"Yes, welcome to my domain" Meelo pointed at himself, his other hand holding Elira's

"Well, aren't you sweet, little monk child." Bolin smiled at the boy, carrying his duffel bag over his shoulder as Mako and Asami descend the ramp behind him.

Pabu jumped down from Bolin's shoulder and ran in between Meelo's legs. The little boy bent over and looked through his legs as Pabu ran off with Pichi jumping off Elira's shoulder to follow him.

"What's that fuzzy creature?" He asked standing up again, pointing at the ferret.

"That is a fire ferret. "Jinora began explaining as Pabu and Naga sniffed each other's noses. Pichi landed on Naga's head as Pabu erected himself on his hind legs, and gently touched Naga's nose with his front paw.

"An arboreal mammal common to the bamboo forests of the central Earth Kingdom"

"Yep, his name's Pabu" Elira added, resting her arm on Jinora's head making her look up at her annoyed.

" He's cuuuute!" Ikki squealed, jumping out from behind her sisters and running towards Pabu.

Meelo airbent upward while an irritated Jinora plugged her ears to silence Ikki's shrieks. Elira just laughed at them.

Pabu hissed at Ikki and ran under Naga with the girl following suit continuing to giggle with joy. Pichi screeched and quickly moved out of the way as Meelo descended down to jump on Naga's head, almost sitting on the poor lemur.

" Yip yip! Fly sky bison! Fly!" He grinned, grabbing the polar bear dog's ears and pulling them backwards.

"Thanks for sending the Air Acolytes to help us with the move." Mako smiled at Elira and Korra

"Yes, they've been amazing. Such tireless workers." Asami added, waving her hand.

Hearing grunting, Elira looked and her jaw dropped in shock as two Air Acolytes began carrying several trunks of luggage down the ramp.

"I thought you were only bringing a few things" Korra shrieked a bit as the Air Acolytes stumbled causing the luggage to threaten to topple onto her and El. Thankfully, the Air Acolytes managed to balance themselves in time.

"Trust me, it could've been worse" Mako replied as the Air Acolytes re-orientated themselves and headed toward the temple.

"No problem, everyone here wants you guys to feel welcome." Elira smiled as Meelo ran back over to her, holding his arms up indicating he wanted to be held.

*

Naga playfully chased Pabu and Pichi around as the group strolled behind them toward the temple. Ikki ran around with her hands outstretched, singing and humming gleefully. As they walked, Asami glanced over and looked confused to see Meelo grinning at her while in Elira's arms.

"You're pretty, can I have some of your hair?" He held out his hand to the girl.

Asami looked disturbed by the request.

" Looks like I have some competition." Mako joked, smirking at his girlfriend

Meelo retracted his hand before grabbing a lock of his sister's hair "Can I have some of your hair, El?"

"After last time, forget it" The older girl huffed

"Aww" Meelo whined when Elira removed her hair from his grip.

They approached the stairs leading up to the main temple and Ikki jumped in front of the group, lifting her hands as they stopped walking.

" And now for the grand tour. The flying bison sleep in those caves down there. And that's the temple Grandpa Aang built. And that's the greenhouse where we grow the vegetables we eat" She spoke quickly, pointing to each area before turning around and grinning at the teens.

"I have a couple of questions" Bolin replied and Ikki stopped smiling as he tried to mimic her fast talk "Is this an all-vegetarian island? Is that where you train airbending?  Do we have to wear Air Acolyte clothes? Do we each get our own sky bison? And final question, how many trees are on this island?"

Ikki thought for a second before answering quickly with her hands behind her back " Yes, yes, no, no. Ten thousand five hundred and fifty-two"

There was a long pause from the others as they blinked in surprise.

"Only you would know that" Elira sighed but smiled at her sister, amused.

"So, where are we going to be staying?" Mako asked

"You're a boy. Boys have to stay on the boys' side" Meelo replied, now on El's shoulder, and pointed in the direction of the dorms.

"I'd be happy to show you to the men's dormitory" Jinora began walking away with Mako behind her.

"I'm a boy!" Bolin followed after them

"Meelo, why don't you go with them?" Elira put her brother down, ushering him slightly in the direction of the others.

"We shall meet again soon, beautiful woman" Meelo smiled at Asami before running after the brothers and Jinora.

"Ikki, El and I will take you to your room this way," Korra said to Asami before they walked off to the girl's dorms.

*

Inside, the girls walked through the corridor to Asami's room.

"Asami, did you know that El likes Bolin?" Ikki suddenly asked

"Ikki!"

Asami and Korra began laughing as  Elira scowled at her sister.

"I think that everyone knows El likes him" Asami chuckled

"Everyone besides Bo that is" Korra added, smirking teasingly at Elira as her scowl deepened and her cheeks redden.

"Okay, well then did you know Korra likes Mako?" Ikki then asked

Korra stopped in her tracks as her eyes grew wide, screaming internally. Elira burst out laughing at the Avatar's horrified face as Asami looked uncomfortable with the topic.

"Oh. Uh, no. I wasn't completely aware of that." She replied, looking surprised

Korra quickly grabbed Asami's arm and dragged her further along the corridor as Elira quickly scampered after them still smirking.

Elira slid open a set of doors, and moved to the side, smiling and gesturing to Asami invitingly into the room. She entered behind her as Ikki walked up to the room to follow them. But as Korra went in last, she turned around, glaring at Ikki and slammed the doors shut in front of her, making her step back.

"Hey!" She cried

"Go play, Ikki!" Elira called from inside the room

Ikki looked down and moaned sadly. Suddenly, she looked up and acted out like an angry cat with glowing white eyes, making some cat noises as she clawed at the air. She growled at the doors and folded her arms in annoyance as she looked away.

"Well, make yourself at home, Asami" Elira smiled, gesturing to the room as Korra scratched her head awkwardly. " I know this is a little rustic compared to what you're used to."

"I think it's really charming" Asami smiled, walking toward the window "and the best part about it, nothing here reminds me of my father. Thank you for your hospitality"

"It's no problem. I'm gonna go check on the boys, make sure my siblings aren't annoying them too badly" Elira explained heading towards the door "My room's just down the hall to the right, gimme a shout if you need anything"

"I will, thank you" Asami smiled as Elira left, closing the door behind her

*

"So, Bolin..." Jinora smirked after showing the brothers to their room "How are things between you and El? Still friends?"

"Yep" The earthbender grinned, placing his bag down on one of the beds

"Is that all you are? No new discoveries or realisations?" The little girl pushed and Mako rolled his eyes in amusement as he unpacked his bag. She wasn't exactly being subtle.

"Do you like El?" Meelo asked bluntly making Jinora cringe and Mako snort but he quickly coughed to hide it.

"What? Of course, I like El. She's my best friend" Bolin looked slightly confused by the question, but smiled anyway as he too unpacked his bag.

Jinora sighed at his obliviousness "I think what Meelo meant was: Do you love--"

"Jinora, Meelo" El appeared in the doorway "Come on, you two. Go play and let the boys unpack"

"But--"

"Now, Jinora" Elira sent her sister a pointed look, having briefly overheard her and Meelo bombarding Bolin with questions.

Jinora huffed in annoyance but listened to her sister and left the room with Meelo following.

"I hope they weren't bothering you too much? They get kinda nosey at times" El apologised, walking further into the room.

"Eh, it's alright. They're kids, it's natural for them to be curious" Mako smiled

Elira went to say something else when a knock on the door made her turn around, finding her grandmother in the doorway.

"Oh, hey, Gran-Gran"

"Elira" Azira smiled before turning to the brothers "Boys, welcome to the island"

"Ma'am" Mako bowed respectively

Bolin just waved with a goofy grin "Hey, Zira!"

"Bo!"

"What?"

Azira let out a laugh at the brothers "It's alright, Mako. I told Bolin to call me Zira the last time we met. And you are welcome to do the same"

"Yes, Ma'am--Um, Zira" Mako replied.

The old woman smiled in amusement before turning to her granddaughter.  "Your father's looking for you. Lin's replacement is going to be inducted as the new Chief of Police later. He thought you, Korra and himself should be there"

Elira crossed her arms and scowled. She hated that Lin had resigned, but it was her decision and she would respect that.

*

Outside the Police Headquarters, a large crowd gathered as Saikhan stood at the podium. Elira was stood with her father and Korra as Saikhan gave a speech.

"It was an honour serving under Chief Beifong for so many years and I wish her a speedy recovery. It is with great humility that I take her place as the new Chief of Police" He said as the camera's flashed " Republic City is facing a threat like none the world has ever seen but there is one man who's been effective against Amon's revolution: Councilman Tarrlok. That is why for all matters involving the Equalists, I will report directly to him"

Elira's eyes widened, glancing at the councilman before sharing a look with Korra and Tenzin.

" The police department will lend any and all available resources to the councilman and his task force until we quell this insurgency." Saikhan slammed his fist down on the podium.

"What is that weasel snake Tarrlok up to now?" Korra muttered as they all looked at Tarrlok with disdain.

"Nothing good, I bet" Elira crossed her arms.

Later, as the crowd dispersed after the inauguration, Tenzin walked over to where Tarrlok was saying goodbye to the other council members.

"Tarrlok, I don't know what you did to get Chief Saikhan in your pocket but I highly doubt it was legal." He accused

"Oh, Tenzin" Tarrlok smirked, turning to the airbender "Always the conspiracy theorist. Did you ever consider Saikhan simply recognizes my talents and wants what is best for this city?"

Tenzin grunted in disgust as Korra and Elira walked over " Well, Elira and Avatar Korra. Long time, no see. Now that your little pro-bending distractions are over, I look forward to your return to my task force. Perhaps this time, you'll both be joining"

Elira scoffed "Ha! In your dreams"

"Yeah, forget it! There's no way I'm re-joining your vanity project" Korra added

Tarrlok's smirk fell "That is unfortunate to hear, but I'm sure you'll both come to your senses as Korra has in the past"

"Don't hold your breath, bub" Korra glared" You know, Tenzin's been right about you all along. You played me, you played Beifong, and now you're playing the new Chief too. Well, I got news for you. You need me, but I don't need you. I'm the Avatar"

"You're not, in fact, the Avatar. You are merely a half-baked Avatar in training" Tarrlok insulted mockingly and Korra's face dropped " Which reminds me, how is your airbending going? Made any significant progress with that?"

Korra looked down in defeat, clenching her teeth. Elira glanced at her sadly

" I didn't think so" Tarrlok smirked smugly

"Hey, back off dude!" Elira stood in front of Korra defensively

Tarrlok scoffed mockingly "Oh, and don't get me started on you, Master Elira"

"What's that supposed to mean?" The teen hissed

"Don't you think it's time you grew up just a little? Your behaviour at times, gesturally makes me worry for when you take over from your father. And we both know, I'm not the only one."

Elira's face softened and she looked down in disdain as Tenzin glared at Tarrlok over her shoulder.

"If you will not be part of my task force, then you had best stay out of my way" The councilman threatened before leaving.

Tenzin placed his hand on Korra's shoulder, wrapping his other arm around El as she looked off to the side.

*

As the sunset that evening, El was sat on her windowsill while Pichi groomed herself by her feet. Her notebook was open in her lap, pencil in hand as she stared at her grandfather's statue in the distance with a thoughtful and slightly saddened expression on her face. The hurtful words Tarrlok spat at her on a constant loop in her mind. Because he was right. The second she was able to bend, everyone expected her to be like her father, including Tenzin. He wanted her to be serious, dignified, and sophisticated. Everything a leader should be. But that just wasn't her.

Pichi chittered suddenly and looked up when there was a knock at the door.

"Come in" El called, continuing to look out the window.

The door opened and Pabu scuttled into the room as Bolin and Mako popped their heads in, Asami standing behind them.

"Hey, El, you seen Korra?" Mako asked "We can't find her anywhere"

"I haven't seen her since earlier, why?" El replied, scratching behind Pabu's ear when he jumped onto her lap.

"Do you think she's okay?" Bolin wondered

"I'm sure she's around here somewhere. Come on, I'll help you look" Elira closed her notebook and stood up following her friends out of the room with Pabu and Pichi following.

"Did something happen while you guys were out?" Asami asked as they walked down the corridor

"Yeah. Tarrlok" Elira scowled and the others shared concerned glances.

*

The sun had long set. Korra was on the ledge on Air Temple Island, staring at the statue of Aang on Memorial Island, tears rolling down her cheeks.

"Korra? You out here?" She heard Mako call out to her

Korra turned her head toward his voice and wiped away her tears. Pabu peeked his head out of the bushes chirping and Pichi was close behind him, chittering when she spotted the Avatar sitting by the cliff.

"Korra, where are you?" Elira's voice cried

"Korraaa!" Bolin yelled as Pabu and Pichi ran toward her.

The two climbed onto Korra's shoulders, Pabu wrapping himself around her before stopping in front of her and licking away her tears as Pichi nuzzled her comfortingly.

"There you are" Bolin, Asami, Elira and Mako finally found her.

"Are you okay?" Bolin asked, reaching down so Pabu could climb onto his shoulders.

"I'm fine" Korra replied as Elira knelt beside her, Pichi moving onto her shoulder.

"Come on, what's wrong? You can tell us." Mako persisted

"Is this about what Tarrlok said?" El asked, placing a hand on her friend's shoulder

Korra sighed "How am I supposed to save this city when I can't even learn airbending? I'm the worst Avatar ever! I just feel ... alone"

"No, that's nonsense! You're amazing!" Asami declared

"Yeah and remember. Aang hadn't mastered all the elements when he was battling the Fire Nation. He was just a little kid." Mako agreed.

"And he wasn't alone. He had his friends to help him" Elira added, smiling as she stood up

"Exactly! Look, the arena might be shut down but we're still a team. The new Team Avatar!" Bolin grinned

"We got your back Korra, and we can save this city" Mako, Asami, Bolin and El all placed their hands together "Together."

Korra stood up, now smiling "Yeah, let's do it!"

She placed her hand on top before Meelo suddenly airbent down, farting on top of their hands.

" Yeah, let's do it!" He raised his arm, grinning as the teens' eyes widened in shock and disgust.

"What are we doing?" He then asked in confusion

The new team laughed as Meelo smiled goofily at them.

*

The teens gathered at the gates of the temple and Elira stood by Bolin looking out at the city in the distance.

"Get ready, Republic City. You are about to be patrolled by Team Avatar." Bolin said in a deep, dramatic voice making El chuckle as Korra led Naga next to them and Mako stood on the other side of his brother.

Asami then approached them wielding an electrified glove

" Asami, you always know how to accessorize your outfits" Mako chuckled

"I figure one way to fight Equalists is to use an Equalist weapon" Asami grinned, conducting electricity from the glove

"Fighting fire with fire. I like it" El smirked

"All right. Let's ride" Korra punched her palm.

Moments later, Elira held her glider in hand, watching in amusement as her friends attempted to cram themselves into Naga's saddle.

"Naga away!" Bolin jumped on behind his brother but Naga immediately bent down, causing the four teens to slide off her and fall on top of each other.

Elira just burst out laughing as Naga growled and shook her head.

"All right, scratch that" Korra stood up, placing her hand on her head  embarrassed

"El, do you think your dad would mind if we borrowed his bison?" Bolin questioned as he got to his feet

"Probably. Besides Oogie's already asleep and it'll take all night to wake him up" El replied

"Any other ideas?" Korra sighed

Asami stood up and flipped her hair, resting a hand on her chin in thought. "Hmm, I think I have the answer"

*

Asami took them to a Future Industries factory and Elira watched curiously as a garage opened and bright headlights from a car made her shield her eyes.

A roaring Satomobile shot out of the garage, swerving and stopping in front of them.

"You think this'll do?" Asami smirked from the driver's seat.

The others grinned and jumped into the car. Mako was in the front with Asami while El was in the back between Bo and Korra.

" I like the new Team Avatar's style." Mako grinned, impressed

Asami changed gears and they drove off to patrol the city. Soon, a police dispatcher began to speak over the radio.

"My dad had police scanners installed in all of his cars" Asami explained "I guess now I know why."

"Calling all units, Level Four Alert. Jailbreak at headquarters. Officers down, electrocuted. Chi-blockers and Equalist convicts are still at large armed and dangerous" The dispatcher announced and the teamed listened with intent "Last seen heading east. I repeat Level Four Alert. Equalist jailbreak!"

Asami suddenly hit the break as a truck and several motorcyclists rushed past them

"Chi-blockers!"

"That's them!"

"Let's get 'em!"

"Team Avatar, away!" El grinned as Asami changed gears and chased after them. Was it weird that she was finding this fun?

Cars skidded to the side, screeching as they stopped to dodge the truck as it ploughed down the street. Asami swerved around the cars and continued to tail the chi-blockers but a massive truck suddenly blocked their way.

"Korra! Bolin! Give me a ramp! Now!"

The two stood up and earthbent a massive ramp and the team yelled as the car was sent soaring into the air before landing safely and resuming their chase.

Mako stood and used his lightning to strike one of the chi blocker's motorcycles, making the chi-blocker fall to the ground. Bolin earthbent earth darts at the second, hitting the wheel of the other motorcycle. The chi-blocker fell and Asami quickly dodged them.

Smoke suddenly began coming out of the back of the other chi-blockers bikes to use a smokescreen and they moved right in front of the teens. Not being able to see, Asami put on her goggles and noticed the chi-blockers turning to the right.

"El, wait!" She called when she noticed the airbender going to blow away the smoke " Korra, Bolin, help me out! We gotta make this turn!"

The two earthbent a giant, angled curve, making the car swerve up before landing back onto the street and they resumed the chase.

"They don't know we made the turn. Okay, get ready...El now!"

Elira blasted away the smoke as Asami changed gears and the car gained speed.

They rammed the motorcyclists, flinging them into the air before landing on top of the bonnet.

Mako firebent but his arm got wrapped up by the Equalist's bola. He used his other arm, but it got wrapped up as well.

The other Equalist jumped in front of Bolin and chi-blocked his arm before he can even attack, making him fall back into his seat, crying out in pain. Asami reached back and electrocuted the chi-blocker with her glove, giving Elira the chance to airbend the Equalist out of the car.

The first Equalist attempted to pull Mako out of his seat, but Korra grabbed his shoulders and pulled him down causing the Equalist to fall over onto the car, where Asami electrocuted him.

Mako chucked the unconscious Equalist to the back, making El scowl as they landed on her, and he prepared to do another lightning strike.

Asami drove closer to the truck so the driver was visible and Mako shot his lightning at them.

The driver fell unconscious and the truck swerved then tumbled to its sides, hitting a lamppost before it stopped.

*

Elira was pulling funny faces at the cameras as reporters took pictures of the team. Soon, two police vehicles came around the corner and Korra smirked when she spotted Tarrlok jumping out of one.

"Look who it is" She nudged El as Tarrlok stormed up to them.

"This should be good" The airbender snickered

"What do you two think you are doing?" He demanded

"Oh, hey Tarrlok. Nice of you to show up finally. Here, we captured the escaped convicts for you" Korra grinned mockingly

"What you did was tear up the city and impede the real authorities in their pursuit of these criminals." Tarrlok snapped

"Hmm, that's funny" El faked a thoughtful look " I didn't see your little task force or the cops the whole time. Did you, Korra?"

"No, El, I didn't. If it wasn't for Team Avatar, they would've gotten away" Korra smirked

"This is your last warning. Stay out of my way!" Tarrlok pointed at them in fury before turning to storm away

"Bye-bye, ponytail man!" Elira imitated her sister, waving mockingly to the man as her friends laughed.

*

The next day, El sat next to her father in a meeting, looking annoyed as Tarrlok spoke to the council members.

"Republic City stands as a beacon of freedom, but the Equalists are using that freedom to tear it down. The law I have proposed would make it illegal for anyone to be a member of the Equalists or even be associated with them. It also puts into effect a curfew, ensuring all nonbenders are in their own homes by nightfall."

"But that's so unfair!" Elira jumped from her seat "Not every nonbender is an Equalist! You'd be punishing innocent people!"

"You are not a member of this council, Elira. Now sit down and be quiet, the adults are talking" Tarrlok snapped

"Make me" The teen hissed and Tarrlok glared at her

Tenzin stood up, placing a hand on El's shoulder "My daughter is right, Tarrlok. This is going too far! You can't punish all nonbenders for the actions of a few!"

"That kind of cowardice will cause our city to fall into Amon's hands. We must pass this law" Tarrlok shot back" All in favour?"

The council members all raised their hands and Tenzin sighed angrily, Elira clenching gritting her teeth as she glared at Tarrlok's mischievous smile.

*

That night, Team Avatar was hanging around the car, eating dumplings, when the radio suddenly started buzzing.

"All available units, please respond to the fifty-six hundred blocks of Dragon Flats borough. Equalists have taken to the streets, consider them armed and dangerous. Proceed with caution."

"I call front!" Bolin and Elira yelled, racing for the front seat as Team Avatar moved into the car

El got there first but Bolin picked her up by her waist before she could sit down.

"Hey!" She complained as he jumped in, poking his tongue out at her.

Rolling her eyes, El jumped in the back with Korra and Mako as Asami started the car and drove off to the Dragon Flats borough.

When they arrived, they found police airships circling, and the area plunged in darkness.

"Why is the power out?" Korra wondered

The car swerved around the corner and then skidded to a stop.  The teens climbed out, looking confused to see hundreds of nonbenders protesting at the metalbending police officers who were holding them behind a blockade.

"Wait a second, these people aren't armed or dangerous," Asami stated as they approached the protest.

"Sure doesn't look that way," El muttered, looking concerned

They turned to see Saikhan speaking through a microphone. "All nonbenders, return to your homes immediately."

"Yeah, as soon as you turn our power back on!" A man shouted and the other protested yelled in agreement

"Disperse, or you will all be arrested."

"You benders can't treat us this way!" A mother cried, holding her child

"Mummy, look! It's the Avatar!" Her other child tugged on her skirt, pointing at Korra

People turned around and rushed toward Korra but were held back by the police officers.

"Please, help us! You're our Avatar, too!" The mother begged

Korra stared at the people in sadness before striding forward and pushing two metalbender officers aside "Everyone, please stay calm. I'm gonna put a stop to this"

As Korra looked around for Tarrlok, knowing this was his doing, the mother noticed El standing by her side.

"Master Elira, can't you do something about this?" She pleaded

El stepped forward with her head held high "Don't worry, Avatar Korra and I will figure this out"

Korra finally spotted Tarrlok talking to a task force member and glared at him. Nudging Elira's shoulder to get her attention, they and the others marched over to the councilman.

" Tarrlok, you need to turn the power back on and leave these people alone. " Korra demanded

"Avatar Korra, you and your playmates have no business here." Tarrlok snapped

"We're not going anywhere. You don't have the right to treat these innocent people like criminals." Elira cut in

"This is an Equalist rally" Tarrlok pointed at the people " There is nothing innocent about it"

"They're not Equalists, they're just normal people who want their rights back," Asami argued

"They are the enemy!" He turned to the police officers " Round up all these Equalists!"

"No!" El watched horrified as officers began removing the legs from the barriers and forcing the people back as they coiled the barriers around them.

The metalbenders slammed their legs into the ground, causing large mounds of earth to rise underneath the nonbenders, lifting them off the ground. Those who thankfully weren't caught quickly made a run for it. The police force prepared to put people into the police trucks, while Team Avatar looked on aghast.

"Stop!" Korra ran forward, earthbending the mounds of earth down.

"Go! Now! Run! Quick!" El cried, waving her arm as the nonbenders escaped.

"Hey! Let me go!"

"Asami!" The airbender whirled around to see Asami struggling against a stream of water around her wrist.

" You're under arrest!" Tarrlok snarled

"What? You can't do that!" Mako glared

"Actually, I can" Tarrlok shot back, pulling Asami over where she was quickly restrained by officers "She's a nonbender out past curfew and her father is a known Equalist conspirator"

"Let her go!" Mako demanded furiously

"Arrest him and his brother!" Tarrlok ordered his officers

The metalbenders coiled their cables around the brothers, pulling them in as they struggled.

"Leave them alone!" Elira yelled, using her glider to blast gusts of air at the officers

"Arrest her too!" Tarrlok yelled and metal cables quickly wrapped around the airbender, preventing her from moving or bending.

"Let me go!"

"Tarrlok!" Korra yelled angrily, earthbending two massive rocks on either side of her

"Unless you want to join your friends in prison, I suggest you put those down and go back to the Air Temple." Tarrlok threatened

"Korra, listen to him. It's not worth it." Mako added

Korra reluctantly dropped the rocks and her friends were pushed toward the trucks

"We'll be all right," Bolin called as he was pushed in

"Don't worry, I'll call Tenzin. He can get you out." Korra called back

"Korra, take care of my family till I get back. Make sure they're safe" El cried

"I will!" Korra replied, watching dismayed as the doors closed.

"So sad to see your little Team Avatar broken up. You had a good run." Tarrlok smirked smugly

"When Tenzin finds out you wrongly arrested his daughter, you're gonna be sorry. This isn't over, Tarrlok" Korra threatened

"Oh, I believe it is. And I can handle, Tenzin" Tarrlok continued to smirk "Take them away!"

Korra watched the trucks drive off with her friends before looking down in regret.

*

Later that night, Korra was at the police station attempting to talk to the person behind the counter but no one would listen to her.

"Hey!" She yelled, banging her fists on the counter when the receptionist walked away.

Tenzin walked up behind her, tailed by his three youngest children. "Korra, I came as fast as I could"

"Shouldn't you three be in bed?" Korra wondered, looking at the kids

"They insisted on coming" Tenzin sighed

"Are El and the others okay?" Jinora asked, looking concerned

"I don't know! These knuckleheads won't tell me anything." Korra huffed, frustrated

"I'll take care of this" Tenzin reassured her

He spotted Saikhan heading past and the chief of police quickly tried to leave when he noticed the councilman

"Saikhan, a word please" Tenzin called making him freeze.

"Councilman Tenzin, I'm pretty swamped at the moment. Can this wait?" He asked, turning to them

"No, it cannot. My daughter along with three of her and Avatar Korra's friends were wrongly arrested tonight. I'd like you to release them immediately" Tenzin demanded

Meelo jumped and grabbed onto the counter, being too small to look over it. He glared at the chief and pointed at him angrily "Where's our sister?!"

"Yeah, let El go!" Ikki added, stomping her foot

"Your sister is locked up and she's not going anywhere"

"As her father, I demand to see her!" Tenzin snapped

"I can't allow that. She and her friends were interfering with police business" Saikhan resorted

"Your so-called police business was rounding up innocent people and claiming they were Equalists. They should be released, too." Korra glared

"All Equalists suspects are being detained indefinitely. They'll be freed if and when the task force deems they are no longer a threat."

"Those people are entitled to due process under the law," Tenzin argued

"You'll have to take that up with Councilman Tarrlok" Saikhan replied

"Oh, I plan to. At the council meeting, first thing in the morning." Tenzin declared and Saikhan narrowed his eyes at him.

"You're officially the worst Chief of Police ever!" Korra snapped, grabbing Saikhan's chin, moving his head up and down.

"Calm down, Korra" Tenzin pulled her away" I'll get this sorted out, we just need to be patient"

They all turned to walk away but Tenzin stopped and whirled around again " But you really are the worst!... Ever!"

They all turned to walk away, the three kids poking their tongues out at the chief as they left.

Ikki and Meelo had fallen asleep by the time they all returned to the island. Azira was waiting for them by the temple gate.

"I'm guessing by your faces, you didn't have much luck?" She asked

Tenzin shook his head and sighed, holding a sleeping Ikki in his arms.  "Where's Pema?"

"Inside waiting. You go talk to her, I'll put the little ones to bed" Azira said, taking Ikki from Tenzin

"I'll help" Korra added, already holding Meelo as he snored

"Thank you" Tenzin nodded and headed inside to find his wife.

"Come on, Jinora. Time for bed" Azira gestured to her granddaughter who was looking at her feet and they all headed inside.

"Gran-Gran, is El gonna be okay?" She asked

Azira smiled softly, wrapping her arm around the little girl comfortingly "She's going to be just fine, Jinora. Your sister has faced far worse than a night in jail"

"She's right, Jinora, and your dad and I will do everything within our power to bring her home" Korra added

Jinora nodded and hugged her grandmother's side "I miss her"

Azira held her close as Korra looked off to the side, an idea forming in her mind.

Later that night, Korra opened her window, staring out at the city with a determined look. Turning around and knelt beside Naga sleeping.

"Wake up, Naga. Let's go"

Sneaking off the island, Korra had only one destination and one task in mind:

City hall to confront Tarrlok!
