Wolves
The next day we're packing up, getting ready to abandon this life in this home for a new one somewhere else. This is not going to be easy. "Hey, Dei?" I hear Sasori call from the weapons room. "Have you seen the first hokage?" I roll my eyes, a smile starting to form. "I think you left him out in the shed!" I call back, looking over my shoulder as he saunters into the room, a smirk dancing across his lips. I turn to him. "What?" I ask, grinning. "Oh nothing..." He says, staring at me intently. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I ask, chucking a bit. He walks over to me, still smirking. As soon as he reaches me, I wrap my arms around his neck as he wraps his around my waist.
His arms are strong, his embrace warm. I touch my forehead to his, taking a deep breath. "I was just thinking about how amazing you are." He says dreamily. I giggle. "Aw Danna!" I move closer, kissing him gently. This time it's different: instead of being crazed, searching for reassurance, his kiss in content, happy... His kiss has only been like this a few times before. I reluctantly pull away, sighing. "I love you. Go find your stupid puppet." I laugh, kissing him on the cheek. "Hey!" He says playfully, smiling, as he walks out the door. "Be careful!" I call, referring to the hungry pack of wolves that seems to stalk our home.
I turn back to the bag I'm packing, stuffing the last bit of clothes into it. Now Sasori just has to finish packing his puppets, and we leave. Suddenly, I hear a strangled cry from outside. My head immediately snaps up, listening. I hear growling, scratching. It was Sasori who cried out. Without thinking, I run out the front door, where I see Sasori, on the ground, his leg bleeding badly. "Sasori!" I call, running to him. I kneel down next to him. His leg is bitten badly, blood pouring from the open wound. "The wolves..." He grimaces. I scowl. It's happening again, the dream is becoming reality. My worst fear is being played out before me. Then, I realize the wolves can't be far.
I stand quickly in front of Sasori as the big wolf, the one we've seen be the leader come out from behind the line of trees, blood dripping from his mouth. Sasori's blood. I move in front of Sasori, protecting him as best I can. I don't have any weapons with me. Stupid! "Deidara, you don't-" He begins, clutching is profusely bleeding leg. "I know." I whisper back. "What are you..." He trails off. My face hardens, a look of determination on my face. "Fight them." I reply.
I briefly turn to him, only to see him nod solemnly. Bring it. More wolves appear behind the line of trees and the leader of the back slowly circles the shed, the smell of Sasori's blood attracting it. "Deidara, don't!" Sasori says, suddenly pleading. "We'll what am I supposed to do, then?" I ask. "I don't know- just- just- help me walk back inside, okay? Don't make them angry or they won't leave us alone!" I hesitate. If I fight them and lose, we'll be screwed over... If I don't fight them and somehow manage to get Sasori back inside, we can leave when his leg heals, but there's so guarantee that I will be able to do that...
I growl. "Fine." I say, slowly backing up and leaning down next to him, offering my arm for him to grasp. He leans on me as I support his weight, allowing him to stand. "No sudden movements..." I hiss, my nervous energy running through the air. He nods, slowly takes a step. I keep my eyes on the wolves, now coming out from the woods. "Slowly now, take a step." He does so, sucking in a breath. "Hnng!" "Shh, okay, now take another." We slowly move halfway to the porch, me whispering encouraging words in his ear.
Suddenly, the leader of the pack starts to circle us, growling. "Dei..." "I know. Just keep walking, and whatever you do, do not look him in the eyes..." "Okay..." He breathes, obviously vulnerable with his injured leg. We finally make it inside our house, locking the only door and barring it with the table.
I lay him down on the bed, wrapping a bandage around his wound after cleaning it. "I guess we're not leaving anytime soon." He says, sighing. I sit down beside him. "I guess not..." I say, frustrated with the situation. "Hey," he says, "it'll be okay." He smiles. "I know, I'm just frustrated." I say. He reaches for my hand. "I know," he says, "I know..."
