CHAPTER 33: His Sins
23:44, 15 March 2024A/N: ...People ...10,000... LEGIT 10,000 VIEWS!!!!!! ゜゜(´O`)°゜I can't even- I'm so happy and so thankful to each and every one of you! 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️I can't express the amount of happiness in simple words... Just know that I... I'm in happy tears. That's it.m(。≧Д≦。)m
Time waits for no one, and Sasuke was never an exception. Another day had already set in, and the seed of turmoil that had been sown in his consciousness the evening before was only growing worse with his anxiety and overthinking skills acting as the catalyst.
Yes, Sasuke had decided to leave the bond he shared with his blond sensei behind at Naruto's home when he left, yet there was not an ounce of peace that came with that decision.
The young Uchiha was afraid.
He had been stubbornly holding onto Naruto for so long now that the Uzumaki was no longer a person to him but a habit. Sasuke, like any other, was but a human who was scared to leave his comfort zone, which he had so nonchalantly claimed to cut ties with.
'I got too comfortable with him... shit.'
Sasuke was enlightened with this bitter truth only after he decided to give up on Naruto for good. He was now more determined than ever to bid farewell to his crush, his feelings, his hopes, and whatever Naruto had given him.
However, everything takes time, and Sasuke was aware that he would have to somehow deal with this second bout of heartbreak he was suffering.
Sasuke lay awake in his bed, his thoughts tirelessly swimming in a cluster of disturbing notions that had been flooding his psyche since last night, leaving no room for him to escape. Yet, one question towered over all the other conflicts and doubts that Sasuke was to face.
'What next?'
Sasuke's decision to leave the blond was final, but what was he supposed to do next? He had already tried immersing himself in alcohol, which hardly did any good to him. It was, in simple terms, a massive blunder.
'Should I call Suigetsu again?'
Sasuke wondered as he stared up at the ceiling while analyzing this option. After spending a decent time on it, he finally chose not to do so. Suigetsu was Sasuke's best friend without any doubt, but Sasuke had, in the light of the recent events, learned that his best buddy wasn't exactly the best with break-up advice.
'So... do I call Itachi?'
The raven thought for a split second before quickly discarding this choice for the sake of his pride. Asking for advice on his feelings and asking for a solution for his heartbreak were two entirely separate matters for him.
'What if he thinks I am weak? Tsk.'
Sasuke was in no mood to confront his brother's overprotective behavior that made him feel like he was a damsel in distress. He did not want to appear emotionally weak in front of Itachi, nor did he want his perfect brother to see the impact of this entire ordeal on him.
He wanted to retain his image as the cold, tranquil, and unnecessarily prideful youngest son of the Uchiha lineage, especially in front of his brother who was deemed to be the most perfect Uchiha that their family history had seen.
Sasuke, once again, dived deep into the complex web of his thoughts to look for an answer, and it didn't take him long to finally find an optimum solution.
'Why didn't I think of it earlier? I feel... stupid.'
Sasuke thought to himself as he sat up straight with his back leaning against the headrest. He picked up his phone from his side table, moving one step closer to implementing his plan.
'Hn. This is it.'
He stared at his screen as it displayed Naruto's name on it, or rather the name Naruto had chosen to feed his number on Sasuke's call list with: 'Hot Dobe'.
'*scoffs* Cocky blond.'
Sasuke couldn't help the very small smile that appeared on his lips as he thought back to the time they had exchanged numbers. He remembered how he had mended the relationship with Naruto that day, only for it to end this way.
Sasuke sighed as his fingers moved to finally block this 'Hot Dobe's' contact from his phone. He had decided last night that there was no turning back, so he had to do it.
Yet his fingers hesitated, delaying the process of pressing the red-colored 'block' option.
'Do it, damn it!'
Sasuke aggressively commanded his fingers internally, which did not defy his order. The closer his finger got to the 'block' button, the faster his heart beat.
'Alright. *gulps* Here goes nothing.'
He poured all the courage he could summon to stick to his decision of blocking the blond, which meant that things really would never be the same with Naruto, not in school, not in private, never.
Taking the first step is always difficult, and this was Sasuke's first step, which was proving to be a heart-wrenching decision for him to take.
However, just before he could press the block button, Sasuke's phone suddenly rang, startling the raven enough to make him jolt and drop the phone on his quilt.
Sasuke took a moment to calm himself before looking down at the screen that was facing upwards. His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he saw the caller's ID, which displayed 'Hot Dobe'.
"Why is he calling me...?"
Sasuke thought out loud as he stared at his phone, which was still lying in front of him. He was beginning to think of a hundred reasons why the blond could be calling him rigjt now, but he did not dare to answer the call. Instead, he stared at his phone until it eventually stopped ringing.
'Ok, good-'
Before Sasuke could even think of anything else, the phone rang again. It was Naruto. Again.
'What does he want?'
Sasuke thought bitterly. Just when the Uchiha had gained the courage to keep Naruto out of his life, the blond just had to come at that time, knocking on the doors of Sasuke's heart again.
'I won't let him ruin it again. Hn.'
Sasuke ignored Naruto's call yet again, and the same process repeated itself several times. Sasuke kept staring at the phone while it rang, not moving a muscle.
'Should I... pick it up?'
Sasuke wondered after the 10th missed call from his whiskered sensei. He was now fiddling with his fingers hidden inside the covers. His breath was escalating if he as much as just thought about facing Naruto.
Sasuke squinted his eyes as he closely watched his phone, which had now begun ringing for the 11th time in a row.
'*sigh* This is the last time...'
Sasuke held the ringing phone in his hand, which was shaking due to the intensity of emotions that he was feeling at the moment.
'Really, this is the last time.'
Sasuke gave a gentle nod to his thought and held his phone to his ear as he finally picked up the call:
NARUTO (N): SASUKE! YOU FINALLY PICKED THE CALL!
SASUKE (S): ...
N: Oi, you there?
S: Hn.
N: Oh, Ok... So, h- how are you?
S: Hn.
N: Eh? This is no answer, dattebayo.
S: *sigh* Why have you called?
N: Uh... well, I just wanted to thank you.
S: For?
N: Shika told me that you were the one who carried me home. So, I just wanted to thank you, dattebayo.
S: ... Ok. Anything else?
N: *chuckles sheepishly* Well, I actually wanted to t- tell you something. You see, I don't really remember w- what exactly I did last night.
S: Hn. 'Of course. This had to happen. I was about to make a fool of myself again.'
N: But... Shika told me everything that happened a- at the bar, dattebayo. And I want to tell you that-
S: Ok. I know. What else?
N: Eh? You know what I mean?
S: Yeah. And it's ok.
N: It's ok?
S: Yeah.
N: ... What are you thinking, Sasuke?
S: ...
N: Tell me, I want to, no, I need to know what you're thinking, dattebayo.
S: ... I know it wasn't me you were meaning to confess to, and it's ok.
N: *sigh* No, teme. That's not what I want to say, I-
S: Naruto. Stop it. I told you I won't bother you anymore about this. Whatever you have to say, I don't want to listen. So don't call me again.
N: But at lea-
BANG!
The door of Sasuke's room flew open with aggressive force, interrupting the two's conversation even before Sasuke could stop Naruto from giving further explanation.
'What the hell...'
Sasuke flinched at the sudden sound as he saw the door limply swing from its hinges due to the impact of force. Before Sasuke could even suspect a trespassing attempt, the familiar clacking of formal leather shoes echoed inside his room, making his blood run cold.
His muscles tensed, and his eyes grew wide with horror as soon as his vision lay upon the figure that entered his room.
"F- Father..."
His lips trembled as he spoke in a small, shaky voice to his father, Uchiha Fugaku, who was now closing the distance between them.
'He... is back. Has it already been a month? No... fuck.'
Sasuke felt a nervous bead of sweat run down his nape, and he tightly gripped the phone in his hand.
'Shit... Naruto is still on call! Cut the call, Naruto, please!'
Sasuke could only wish since Naruto was continuously taking the raven's name on the other end of the phone and asking if he was okay. However, his voice was overshadowed by Sasuke's thumping heart, which was the only sound the raven could perceive at the moment.
Sasuke's throat was dry, and his heartbeat increased as the clacking sound grew louder with every step Fugaku took towards him. The sudden sense of terror was causing his body to shake uncontrollably.
He could feel Fugaku's gaze pierce through him like daggers. He gulped and tried to swallow his constantly rising fear along, but to no avail. His body was paralyzed with fear as his heightened intuition accurately judged the potential danger he was in.
Fugaku stopped right in front of his quivering son, staring at him with an icy gaze, which Sasuke knew very well.
'He is angry...'
Sasuke could have never been so right. He could feel the heat of rage radiating from his father's body and engulfing Sasuke, rendering him vulnerable to the demonic entity he called 'father'.
"Who are you speaking with?"
A shiver ran down Sasuke's spine as Fugaku questioned him in the deadliest tone he had ever used with the raven. Sasuke let out a shaky breath and hesitantly looked up at his father, whose figure was now towering over him.
"A- A friend."
The young Uchiha's voice was laced with terror as he spoke because he knew that his father would not take the news too well, and he was absolutely correct in his deduction once again.
Fugaku frowned at his son's answer. He was able to guess who exactly this 'friend' was.
"It's that boy on your laptop, isn't it?"
Sasuke froze now that the truth was out. His grip around his phone tightened to the point that his knuckles were white. He slowly nodded as an answer to his father's question.
"Oh... So now you have the guts to go against me."
Fugaku said more to himself than to his son, but Sasuke was well aware of what awaited him next. However, something felt different this time, and this 'different'... was not good at all.
While Sasuke shivered under the shadow of his father, Fugaku took off his coat and threw it to the side. He unbuttoned the cuffs of his sleeves and rolled them, instilling an internal panic in Sasuke's head.
"You know what you did wrong?"
Fugaku questioned in his sinister tone after he was done getting comfortable in his clothes.
"Yes, father..."
Sasuke replied calmly and simultaneously removed the phone from near his ear, completely tuning out the worried blonde. He had his phone solidly clenched in his hands.
Fugaku nodded at Sasuke's answer while his eyes scanned his youngest son carefully to detect any signs of hesitation. He leaned to Sasuke's level and stared hard at his son, causing the raven to shift uncomfortably on the bed.
Fugaku scoffed, taking sadistic pleasure in Sasuke's squirming when he harshly pulled the raven's face closer to him, making the young Uchiha look him in the eye. He gazed at his son's pathetic state before speaking in his diabolical voice;
"Good. Now, it's time to pay for your sins."
