confession
08:51, 14 December 2024Part 33: Confession
Charlie was walking through the hallway of the Hazbin Hotel, humming softly to herself as she made her way to Alastor's office. She had been feeling unusually light-hearted today, thinking about the progress they'd made with the hotel's plans and the strange family dynamics that were forming.
But as she rounded the corner, her cheerful demeanor faltered when she caught sight of something unexpected.
Through the open doorway of Alastor's office, she saw him. Alastor, the usually poised and calculated radio demon, his back pressed against the counter with Clara's legs wrapped around his waist. They were kissing. Not a quick, fleeting kiss, but a deep one, filled with an intimacy Charlie had never seen between Alastor and anyone else.
Charlie froze, her heart inexplicably twisting in her chest as she watched them for a moment. But then, before she could even process what she was witnessing, Alastor pulled away from Clara, his voice low and sincere.
"clara..." he began softly "I..i love you" he said, his usual confident grin replaced with something softer, more genuine. "I've kept Audrey away from you far too long, and I'm sorry. She deserves to know you."
Clara's eyes softened as she looked up at him, her expression one of relief and gratitude. "I never thought you'd say that... but thank you, Al. I needed to hear that."
Alastor reached up, brushing a stray lock of hair from Clara's face, his touch gentle.
Charlie felt a knot form in her throat. She didn't know what she was supposed to feel. She didn't understand what had just happened. She had always thought of Audrey's situation as complicated, but seeing Alastor—Alastor—open up like this, confessing feelings she hadn't known he was capable of... it threw her off.
But she didn't say anything. She didn't know how to react.
Alastor glanced over at the door, his sharp eyes catching Charlie's presence. He didn't seem fazed by her surprise at all, but his face softened slightly. "Charlie," he greeted her, his tone polite but not apologetic. "I see you've witnessed... a rather personal moment."
Charlie's mouth opened and closed, unsure of what to say. She wanted to ask questions, to demand answers, but something in Alastor's gaze stopped her. He was... different now. And Clara, sitting there with a smile, looked like she was finally at peace.
Charlie's gaze flickered back and forth between them, but in the end, she didn't ask. Instead, she took a step back, her heart heavy with confusion.
"I'll... I'll leave you two to it," she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. She didn't look back as she turned and walked away, the weight of what she had seen lingering in her mind.
Inside, Alastor and Clara exchanged a brief glance, and for the first time in a long time, there was no smirk, no game—just an understanding that went beyond words.
