silent night

19:29, 12 December 2024

The Hazbin Hotel had long since quieted down, the usual hum of activity replaced by an eerie stillness that seemed to stretch on for miles. Alastor, having finally managed to get Audrey to sleep was more determined than ever to preserve that rare moment of peace He stood in the hallway outside the room where Audrey now rested, his sharp, calculating eyes narrowing as he scanned the surroundings.

His movements were calculated, almost predatory, as he adjusted his cane with a slight flick. There was no sound but the faintest creak of the old floorboards beneath his polished boots. He had been patient with Audrey, feeding her, soothing her, but the task of getting her to sleep had required every ounce of his control. The moment her little eyelids fluttered shut, a deep sigh of relief passed through him, though he hid it behind a stern mask of composure.

Now came the real challenge: ensuring no one would disturb her.

Alastor moved silently through the halls, his eyes sharp and his posture perfect, as if the air itself would respond to his presence. He briefly passed by the lobby, where Vaggie and Charlie were discussing plans for the hotel, and with a simple glance, he made it clear that no noise would be tolerated.

"Shh..." Alastor whispered, his voice carrying that authoritative, almost musical quality. His grin widened just slightly, but it was enough to send a warning to anyone nearby. "Audrey is resting. No noise. Not even a whisper."

Vaggie, who had been speaking to Charlie, immediately fell silent, her eyes narrowing as she shot a glance at Alastor. She was all too aware of how protective he could be, but there was a flicker of something more dangerous in his gaze—a silent command that made her hesitate to question him. Charlie, ever the optimist, simply nodded, though her brow furrowed in confusion at how intense Alastor's mood had become.

"Got it..." Vaggie muttered under her breath, raising an eyebrow at the radio demon. She was used to his eccentricities, but this was different.

Alastor moved down the hall, his every step measured, as if the very act of walking might disturb the fragile tranquility he had worked so hard to create. He passed through the dining area, where Husk was in the middle of tossing dice into a cup, and the moment Alastor stepped into view, Husk immediately froze, sensing the shift in the atmosphere.

"Don't." Alastor hissed softly, his smile a mere flicker of danger. Husk raised both hands in mock surrender, the rattle of dice coming to an abrupt halt.

"Right...quiet," Husk grumbled, backing away from the table. He knew well enough that Alastor's rules, when it came to Audrey, were absolute.

Back in the room where Audrey lay, Alastor made one final check. He carefully placed a small blanket over her tiny form, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. His expression softened, the usual edge of manipulation replaced by something more genuine, though it was fleeting.

He remained at her side for a moment longer than he usually allowed himself. There was something so... delicate about her, so pure in her innocence, that it made him feel oddly protective—an instinct he rarely indulged in.

Audrey stirred briefly but remained asleep, her breathing steady. Alastor allowed himself one final moment of quiet satisfaction before he stood, stepping back into the hallway with the same silent precision. He was ready for any disturbances that might threaten this rare peace.

No one would dare interrupt his precious Audrey's slumber. No one.
