Chapter 15

Ayanokouji POV

A few minutes have passed since Shigeru Takemoto who was one of the contestants for the Swimming Contest event left the room. The atmosphere in the room was still the same as the one before I took a nap.

The whispers by my classmates can be heard all over the classroom. The television is now showing the indoor swimming pool of the school. More seconds passed and the whispers made by my classmates are still heard but it was stopped when the doors slide open revealing Katsuragi and Morishige entering the room. As they were going to their seats to sit down they were congratulated by our classmates. It seems like they anticipated that we would win since Katsuragi was one of the contestants on our side. Morishige quietly thanked those who congratulated him while Katsuragi nods towards them and sits on his seat.

Just then, Mashima-sensei started speaking from the speaker.

"Well, I'm going to announce the results of the Math Test event. The test had a 75 questions, From Class A, Katsuragi Kohei - 70 and Morishige 67. From Class C, Mei-yu Wang, 73 and Matsushita Chiaki, 63. Meaning, Class A are the victors of this event.

As Mashima-sensei declared that we won this event my classmates burst into joy though they didn't exaggerate it too much so that they wouldn't disturb the people inside the classrooms next to us. Of course they once again congratulated Katsuragi and Morishige to which they thanked them in on orderly and quiet manner.

But then again, we almost lost this event. There was only a one point difference between Class A and C's score. But luckily enough we managed to take the win on this event. With this, we now tied up to Class C.

The congratulation done by classmates were interrupted as Mashima-sensei continued talking.

"We will now begin Swimming Contest Event. The rules are simple in this event, first one to the other side then go back to where they started wins this event. The is about 50 meters long making it an Olympic size pool.

At one end of the swimming pool we can see the contestants of this event. One of the contestants is our classmate, Takemoto Shigeru. The other contestant is from Class C, Onodera Kayano. If I have to say who I think is going to win then, it would be Onodera. She is an athlete and a member of the Swim Club so that gives her an advantage. As for Morishige, I've seen him swim very well on one of our PE Classes in the pool. But he isn't an athlete nor is he a member of the Swim Club so the odds are against him. 

Both Takemoto and an Onodera take their positions on the diving , the teacher who is supervising the event puts a whistle on her lips and blows on to it starting the race.

Takemoto and Onodera immediately jump towards the water underneath them. Both of them is swimming fast but it is quite clearly that Onodera is much more faster that Takemoto and is making a gap between them. Seconds have passed and the gap between Onodera and Takemoto is now wide. Just then, Onodera arrives at the other end and is now going back to the starting point. Soon Takemoto arrives at the other side and is chasing after Onodera but this time he is going much more faster compared when the match started. Takemoto was about to pass Onodera but she got faster and made a gap between her and him again.

Onodera and Takemoto was now near the starting point however, the gap between them is large though it appears to be shrinking as Takemoto is going fast but I already knew who was going to win at this point so I decided to avert my eyes from the television and onto to my classmates who were watching the television with worry on faces.

As I was still looking at my worried classmates I heard a whistle being blow from the television.

I looked at the television and saw Onodera coming out off the water first with a face befitting one who had a battle then is followed by Tekemoto with a slight sad face. 

So Onodera won, as expected of a athlete. I wasn't surprised by this well, not that I'll ever be surprised.

"As all of you have seen, Onodera from Class C wins the event so Class C are victors of this making. Making the number of Class C's victory 3 and Class A only having 2 so far."

I can feel some of my classmates sulking when Mashima-sensei announced Class C's victory on this event. Not that I care anyways.

"We will now move on to the next event which is Chess so to the contestants of this event, please go to the Special Annex Building so that we can start with the event."

So Soccer is the last event, that is quite a scary coincidence since I'm participating in that event.

As Mashima-sensei announced the next event which is Chess a female classmate of mine named Nishikawa Ryouko stood and left the room. I didn't know that she knew how to play chess, maybe Sakayanagi taught her before the exam? 

Takemoto soon arrived back at the classroom carrying a sad face. My classmates of course, comforted him the same way they comforted, Kito and Matoba.

 The television switched from showing the indoor pool to the same classroom where the Japanese History Test and Math Test were held but this time there were only two seats facing each other and in the middle of it was a table with a chess board and its pieces on top of it. Soon, Nishikawa entered the room and the contestant of Class C arrived a few seconds after.

AN: I didn't specify who the Class C representative was because I didn't know anyone that would fit this role as a contestant for the chess match. I hope you will understand my decision.

Both of were sitting at the seats and beside them was the same teacher that supervised the Japanese History Test and Math Test.

Mashima-sensei spoke again through the speaker and he explained the rules.

"The rules are the same as an actual chess match. They will only play one match to decide who the winner is. That would be all.

Nishikawa and Class C's contestant played Rock - Paper - Scissors to decide who was going to use the White and Black pieces. Nishikawa won which means she gets to use the White pieces. 

Both of the contestants shake hands and the match officially begins with Nishikawa moving a Pawn to E4. The is move itself is common but the move can give a lot of opportunities to win of the player moves it pieces correctly and if I were to guess, the opponent will respond with Pawn to E5 . Nishikawa's opponent responds with a Pawn to E5. Just as I guessed.

Nishikawa then moved Pawn to D3 and her opponent moves Queen to F6. With that move alone I can guess that Nishikawa's opponent is trying to end the match quickly, if she moves her Bishop to C5 then Queen eats Pawn at F2 and if there were no pieces that are blocking the pawn or pieces that would eat the Queen when she eats the Pawn then that would mean victory for Nishikawa's opponent. 

Nishikawa moves her Knight to H3 stopping her opponent's plan. Her opponent then moves pawn to D5 and Nishikawa moves her Bishop to threatening her opponent's Queen. Her opponent retreats his Queen to D6 since he can't eat the Bishop with his Queen since Nishikawa's Knight on H3 is protecting the Bishop. Nishikawa moves her other Knight on C3 and her opponent has his Pawn on D5 eat her Pawn on E4. Nishikawa retaliates with her Knight on C3 eating the Pawn on E4 leaving his Opponents Queen exposed to the Knight her opponent didn't have her Queen retreat to a safe spot but instead, moves his Bishop on G4 threatening her Queen. Nishikawa eats the Queen with her Knight which also checks her opponents King meaning her opponent won't be able to eat Nishikawa's Queen.

Nishikawa's opponent eats Nishikawa's Knight on D6 with his own Bishop effectively ending the check on his King. Nishikawa then immediately ate the Bishop that was threatening her Queen with her Queen and her opponent counters it with placing his Knight on F6, threatening her Queen once again. Nishikawa moves her Queen to A4 to remove the threat on her Queen while checking her opponents King. Her opponent blocks her Queen by placing his Knight on C6.

So far, the game has good for our side. Nishikawa is making good moves, though she lost some Pawns, A Bishop and a Knight in the process. However it didn't matter as she removed her opponent's Queen giving her the upper hand now. Come to think of it, this is the first time I've watched a Chess Match in years. I've never played Chess when I was at that Man's mansion because he didn't have a chess board.

Nishikawa then moves her Queen on B3 threatening her opponents Pawn on B7, however her opponent didn't protect the Pawn but instead castled her King with the Rook on H8 so as a result Nishikawa was able to eat the Pawn while now threatening the Rook on A8. Her opponent then move the Rook on A8 to B8 to threaten Nishikawa's Queen but Nishikawa moves her Pawn on C6 eating the Knight on it, her opponent responds with his Rook on B8 to B2 eating the Pawn on it. Nishikawa then moves her Bishop that was on G5 to C1 threating her opponents Rook. Her opponent then retreats his Rook back to B8 and Nishikawa moves her Queen to A6 to threaten the Pawn on A7, her opponent protects the Pawn that is being threatened by Nishikawa's Queen by moving her remaining Bishop to C5 to which Nishikawa also moves her Bishop from C1 to A3 threatening her opponents last Bishop. Her opponent eats her Bishop with his own and Nishikawa eats her opponents reaming Bishop with her Queen and in the process, she is now threatening her opponent's Rook on F8 with her Queen.

As of I right now, I can only guess that Nishikawa's opponent is on ramble since his plan failed in the beginning. I can tell because, he is eating a lot of Nishikawa's pieces knowing that his Pieces will be also eaten. Well that is good news to us so good for Nishikawa.

Nishikawa's opponent protects his Pawn on A7 by moving his Rook on A8 and Nishikawa moves her Pawn from C3 to C4 then her opponent eats the Pawn with his own Pawn on E5. Nishikawa then moves her last Bishop from F1 to F4 threating her opponent's pawn on F7, however that would be useless since the Pawn is being protected by both the Rook and King that are next to each other. Her opponent moves his last Knight from F5 to E4 and Nishikawa moves her Pawn from C2 to C3.

Nishikawa's opponent then moves his Knight to F2 threatening Nishikawa's Rook on H1. However, I believe Nishikawa's opponent made an idiotic move well I would call it idiotic since there was no benefit from doing that move. It would give Nishikawa a free eat since he did that.

Nishikawa obviously responds by eating her opponent's last Knight with her Knight on H3. At this point I could only think that Nishikawa's opponents is giving up.

Nishikawa's opponent eats her Pawn on C3 with his Pawn on D4 to which Nishikawa only responds with her Queen eating the pawn. Her opponent then moves her Pawn on H7 to H6 giving his King a chance to escape in the event where Nishikawa checks his King. Nishikawa then castles her King with the Rook on A1 and her opponent moves his Rook on A8 to D8, threatening Nishikawa's Rook on D1. Nishikawa then removes the threat on her Rook by moving her Knight from F2 to D3, her opponent then moves his Pawn on H7 to H6 and Nishikawa also moves her Pawn on H2 to H3 to which her opponent also moves his Pawn on C7 to C5. Nishikawa then moves her Pawn on G2 to G4 effectively threatening her opponent's Pawn on H5 but her opponent doesn't eat Nishikawa's Pawn but instead moves it to H4. 

Nishikawa eat her opponent's Pawn on C5 with her Knight on D3 which an opening for her opponent's Rook on her D8 to eat her Rook on D1. Obviously her opponent eats Nishikawa's Rook on D1 with his Pawn on D7 which also checks Nishikawa's King but Nishikawa then eats the Rook that her Rook with her remaining Rook on H1, removing the check on her King.

If Nishikawa moves her pieces correctly then she would win this match.

Nishikawa's opponent moves his Rook on F8 to C8 threatening Nishikawa's last Knight but Nishikawa protects her Knight by moving her Bishop that was blocking her Queen fromC4 to D3. Nishikawa opponent then moves her Pawn on F7 to F5 threatening Nishikawa's Pawn on G4. It is Nishikawa's turn, she didn't eat the pawn with her Pawn nor did she eat with her Bishop but she instead moved the Pawn that was being threatened to G5, aligning her and her opponent's pawn.

Nishikawa's opponent moves his Pawn on A7 to A5 and now Nishikawa eats the Pawn on F5 with her Bishop on D3 to which Nishikawa's opponent counters it by moving his Rook to F8 , threatening Nishikawa's only remaining Bishop. Nishikawa then moves her Knight on C5 to E6 which now threatens her opponent's Rook.

Now Nishikawa's opponent realizes that he lost the match so as for his last move, he move his Rook to F5 eating Nishikawa's Bishop while Nishikawa moves her Queen on C3 to G7 making her win the game.

 AN: Here is where the Chess Match ends and if some of you are wondering of all the moves in this match then here, I have a picture off all the moves. Though I have to say, my back  hurts right now from typing and sitting.

With that, Nishikawa wins the game making Class A the winners of this event.

Nishikawa her opponent shake hands. Nishikawa stands up and looks at the camera which and made a peace sign on her hand. And strangely enough, majority of classmates also made a peace sign towards the camera. That was probably their way of communicating not through words. I never expected this from Class A but it's not like I hate or disgusted by it, somehow I find it cute in a way though I will never say that even if someone tortures me.

Mashima-sensei spoke through the speaker to announce the results most likely.

"As all of you have seen, Nishikawa Ryouko wins the Match making Class A the winner of this event."

My classmates broke into joy as they heard that and as the same as the previous announcements they never shouted or exaggerated their celebration. Some were still holding there peace signs towards the television.

Mashima-sensei continued to talk through the speaker.

"The next event will be soccer so to all the contestants for this event, please head to the Soccer Field."

'Finally I've been waiting'  I thought to myself. It would be a lie if I said I wasn't excited waiting for the Soccer event. I mean it's been a while since I did some sports so this be fun at least.

After Mashima-sensei spoke, Me, Hashimoto and a male classmate of mine named Yoshida Kenta who appears to our third member stood up and went towards the door. This attracted attention from our classmates. Some of them were shocked and some of them were smiling and a few were grinning and nodding their heads repeatedly which I find weird.

As I head towards the door of our classroom to exit I can hear cheers from my classmates. Some of them are saying 'Good luck Ayanokouji-kun' , 'Make us proud Ayanokouji' , 'Make sure to win Ayanokouji'  and of course they also wished my teammates good luck.

As we step outside of the dorm Hashimoto started talking.

"Man, you sure are popular in class King."

"Yeah, Hashimoto-kun is right Ayanokouji-san. You're quite popular with girls more specifically."

I can only awkwardly reply at Hashimoto and Yoshida's statements.

"I see..."

We headed first to the locker room in order to change into our PE uniforms. 

Once we arrived we immediately started to change as we didn't want to waste time and possibly get a scolding from the PE teacher who most likely going to supervise the event.

After changing into our PE uniform we headed to the Soccer field where the event was going to be held.

AN: Wew, this took longer that I expected and my back hurts along with my but. Sitting for a long time is bad for someone's but, it would feel like your bones are the ones sitting.

Anyways, the next chapter will be about the Soccer event.
