Chapter 42
16:59, 8 October 2021The stress and fear hidden in Fury's voice threw panic into me. I grabbed Bruce's wrist and teleported us to Deck C as soon as those words left Fury's mouth. When we appeared in the room, my heart sank as I stared at Alex.
My poor Alex.
She was light blue, her eyes dark red and terrified and the cage she was in was frozen. Bruce went wide in the eyes as he examined the scene and I put my hand on the outside of the glass, feeling the cold as I stared at her.
"We don't know what happened." Tony replied from behind me. I looked down and sighed as I nodded.
"I do." I said.
"Loki, she looks just like-"
"Yeah." I said, cutting Bruce off.
"Just like what?" Fury asked us. I looked over at them as he crossed his arms and raised a brow. Peter was with them and so was the doctor that was helping her here.
"Like a Frost Giant." I informed them. Tony dropped his crossed arms and his brows both raised in surprise as he stared at me. Peter, the doctor and Fury all looked equally as surprised.
"Wait, you're saying the Frost Giant DNA in this baby is causing this??" Alex asked me. I turned my attention to her and dropped my hand from the glass as I nodded, embarrassed and hurt that I was the cause of this.
"How?" Tony asked me as he recrossed his arms.
"It would seem that the baby is...powerful." I began as I looked over at them. I put my hands behind my back, inhaled deeply and then exhaled slowly as I looked back at Alex. While I was upset I had done this to her, knowing what I knew about my people I could not help but feel proud.
*Alex's POV*
"How?" Tony asked again, this time raising a brow. I wiped the frost away and watched as Loki's bright green eyes searched mine. He turned away from me and clenched his jaw as he nodded, getting ready to explain.
"The birthing process on my home world, Jotunheim, is very different than Earth and Asgard's. The men carry the baby and give birth to them. I learned this through the minds of a few Frost Giants when they attacked Asgard. I was searching for answers and decided to take a small detour to learn of....my people a little more." Loki admitted as he nodded.
"Gross." Bruce whispered.
"Painful." Tony cringed.
"When a Frost Giant is with child, if said child is powerful, strong, the Giant will experience...fluctuations in their own abilities." He added.
"Such as?" Fury asked him, raising a brow.
"Depends on the power of the child and the power of their carrier. I learned that one of the Frost Giants that I had read the mind of had a powerful child. During his...pregnancy...said Giant was unable to control himself and would often cause sharp ice crystals to sprout from the ground, hurting others around him." Loki explained.
"His son went on to be the strongest warrior in the clan." He added.
"Because Alex can control elements, the ice just spreads to everything around her, everything she can control." Bruce nodded as he crossed his arms.
"So, how did they control it?" Peter asked as he looked over at me. A white beam suddenly appeared and then disappeared, revealing a smiling Thor. He turned from the group and immediately lost his smile as he laid eyes on me.
"By the Gods, you look like Loki!" He laughed as he examined me.
"Well, not Loki right now but Loki in his true form!" He added, still laughing. He lost his smile and his eyes went wide when he heard what he had said.
"Not that looking as an Asgardian is a false form, brother. I simply meant-"
"I know." Loki replied, saving Thor from feeling like he offended Loki.
"What trickery is this?" He asked his brother as he looked over at the other God.
"Pregnancy." I unhappily replied.
"How did that happen?" Thor asked as he looked back over at me.
"When a mommy and daddy love each other very much-" Tony began to explain.
"Stop." Fury warned as he glared at a laughing Tony.
"I just explained it, brother, had you arrived here sooner you would know." Loki angrily said as he crossed his arms.
"Be nice." I warned Loki. He rolled his eyes but relaxed his tense body as he returned his attention to his brother again.
"It is because the child we created is powerful and that is causing the Frost Giant DNA to act up." He gave his brother the short version.
"Does it go away?" Thor asked as he set his hammer on the ground.
"I was getting to that part." Loki replied.
"From what I was able to see, no it does not go away until birth and there is no way to suppress it." All of my hope left my body with that sentence. But that hope was quickly replaced with fear and anger. Pregnancy hormones really did make everything worse.
"I can't be locked up here for another 5 fucking months!" I scoffed as I crossed my arms.
"I did not say you had to be." Loki argued. That only made me angrier.
"You implied it! What am I supposed to do?? Move to the fucking Artic until I give birth??" I asked him as I furrowed my brows. I felt tears building up and clenched my jaw as I stared at him. Loki appeared in the cage with me and his skin faded to a darker blue color while his eyes turned dark red. I inhaled a little as I watched his transformation, it was the first time seeing him as a Frost Giant. He put his hands on the sides of my face and placed his forehead on mine as he closed his eyes. I threw my arms around him and hugged him tightly as I closed my eyes too.
"I'm sorry." I whispered.
"I know." He whispered back.
"She's right though. What's she supposed to do." Tony sighed as he ran his hands down his face.
"If it's only effecting the elements she controls, maybe she should move to another planet until she gives birth." Peter suggested.
"I don't like that idea." Fury argued.
"We could try to create a serum that suppresses the transformation." Bruce suggested.
"How?" Peter and Tony asked as the same time.
"And would it be safe for the baby?" Dr. Cunningham added.
"I'll have to do some research with her blood, Loki's blood and-"
"Why not just use the spell father did on you, brother?" Thor suddenly asked Loki. I opened my eyes and furrowed my brows as Loki's eyes shot open. He pulled away from my but kept his hands on my face as we looked over at the God.
"You brilliant idiot." Loki laughed.
"What now?" Fury asked as he tilted his head and furrowed his brows. Loki released my face and took my hand as he wiped the glass with his free one.
"When Odin found me on Jotunheim, he used an influence spell to change my appearance to Asgardian. It worked my whole life up until I went to Jotunheim with Thor and discovered the truth. But even then it still works to keep me looking as an Asgardian and not Frost Giant, unless I touch something like another Giant." Loki explained as he looked over at me, his red eyes soft and loving.
"That easy, huh?" Tony asked him, grabbing his attention.
"I have to read through Odin's books to find the specific spell he used, but yes." Loki nodded with a smile.
"Well get to it." I smiled as I let Loki's hand go. He vanished from the cage and reappeared next to Thor. Thor called upon Heimdall and a white light took them away from Earth.
"Alright, from now on if anything weird happens, we go to the Assgardians first." Tony nodded.
"Agreed." Fury mumbled.
-----
I slumped back against the bench in the cage and sighed as I looked over at Tony. It's been a few hours and the Gods aren't back yet. Loki's been in contact with me and told me he's still looking for the spell. Apparently Odin was a messy guy and even Frigga can't find the right book. A bright white flashed and hope overcame me as I jumped to my feet and rushed to the edge of the cage. I put my hands on the glass and smiled as the light faded and Thor stood there. But I quickly recognized it wasn't my Thor.
"You're a Frost Giant now?" He asked as he looked over at me. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms as I glared at him. Another light flashed and then two more and when they all faded another Tony, Peter and Bucky stood next to him. They looked pretty similar to the ones I knew and loved, but I could tell they weren't the same. Something was off about them. Bucky's eyes were bright blue and Peter's hair was a slightly lighter brown. Tony was way shorter, like at least three feet shorter, and his facial hair as a little patchy.
"Side effect of being pregnant with a half Frost Giant baby." My Tony replied, his words mumbled because he had a mouthful of sandwich. He asked if I wanted one but the thought of it made me want to vomit.
"Right, you mentioned that last time. I didn't believe you." The other Thor shrugged.
"Another me, how weird." Tony laughed as he looked at the other Tony. He walked over to him and furrowed how brows when he saw just how short the other one really was.
"I'm not liking that this one's so short." He said as he shook his head and looked over at me.
"I'm very tall where I'm from." The other Tony scoffed.
"Where's that? Munchkin County?" Tony asked the other Tony. I let out a loud laugh and the other Bucky and Peter held back their own laughs as they looked away from the pair.
"This version of me is a dick." The other Tony scoffed.
"They all are." The other Thor mumbled.
"Next time you decide to bifrost your way on to my damn ship, I better be notified." Fury harshly said as he walked into the room.
"See." Thor nodded.
"Freaky." My Peter laughed as he walked into the room behind Fury.
"What's your reason for being here?" Fury asked as he crossed his arms.
"Well, we started rebuilding our own universes, it's been hard and we could use some help." Thor got right to the point.
"Help how?" Tony asked.
"With supplies, taking in some people until we can get everyone situated on new planets, sending over able bodied people to help us." The other Bucky replied.
"You guys are the only universe to basically get away unharmed by Loki." The other Thor said as he looked around at us.
"We're desperate." He added. Another white light flashed but this time it contained my Loki and Thor. The other's cautiously backed away and Loki rolled his eyes as he vanished and appeared in the cage with me. He took my hand and stared down into my eyes with his dark red ones.
"My commands are your sweet song, your hear only my voice from this moment on. My words are your thoughts. With love and trust I command you only because I must. This spell is true and harms no one. As I will it, it is done." Loki whispered.
"You will return to your human form and all Frost Giant powers will be suppressed." He added. I closed my eyes and felt a warmth overcome me and the area around me. When I opened my eyes I saw that the ice had melted and Loki was in his Asgardian form once again. I smiled as I looked down at my human hands and then excitedly looked over at Tony, waving them.
"What about the baby?" Tony asked as he opened the door. Loki and I walked out hand in hand and the others stared at us, all of them still cautious.
"It will respect the spell and stay in a human form until it is born. I will then have to recast the spell." Loki nodded.
"So, you're really pregnant with his baby?" The other Bucky asked as he raised his brow at us.
"Yeah." I replied, my voice a bit more defensive that intended.
"I mean, that's cool. In my universe you were dating Tony." He shrugged. My Tony and I both cringed at that information.
"Let's go up to the conference room and talk more." Fury nodded before turning and leaving the room. The others from the other universes followed him and then the ones from my universe and then Loki and myself.
"Thank you, Loki." I happily whispered as I swayed into him.
"Anything for you." He whispered back while swaying into me, a smile on his face.
I was happy I wasn't freezing everything around me but now we had a new problem. The other Avengers and their universes needed a lot of help and I wasn't sure if we could do it. 199 universes trying to rebuild, all of them asking for supplies and help from one universe. But I'm sure Fury will figure something out.
