CHAPTER SIX

23:32, 14 November 2019

Maria kept her head down for a couple of days, after the basic threat that Mary Eunice said to her. Or, was it a threat? Maria thought about it a lot, but didn't want to. She didn't like the fact that she betrayed grace, she knew how bad it was when you got punished, something she wouldn't wish on her worst enemy. But, she had got grace in solitary for a week, and grace got spanked. Maria still hadn't talked to kit, or Lana for that matter. The information she learned about her father shook her to her core, and his death that she was never told about haunted her. Also, she did know that kit was her childhood friend. All the proof she needed was in photos, and a visit that she made to his mother. But, she still didn't know what to think about his murders and the little green men story. Confused about a good amount of things, she decided to take a trip home to her mothers. Her mother never talked about her father, didn't mention anything. After her father was taken to the asylum, her mother told maria to swear to NEVER ask her about her father. Maria was only thirteen when her father was sent away to an asylum, and that was the only information her mother told her about. But, that was it. Her mother's house an hour away, Maria drove with determination to find the truth.

Ding dong

Maria rung the doorbell. She awaited for her mother to answer the door, while waiting she looked around at the house that hadn't changed much in six months.

"Yes? Oh my-"Β  her mother said, startled that she was here. Maria greeted her forty two year old mother.

"Maria, I thought you had another six months until you arrived home?" Her mother asked.Β  Her mother stepped to the side, letting her come in.

"Well, theres something I have to talk to you about." Maria replied. Her mother's face grew frustrated.

"This couldn't go over the phone? Or a letter? You know how I am about you missing out on education." Her mother scolded. Maria sat down on the couch, that she didn't recognize.

"I'm not exactly being educated, mother. More like watching people throw up and loose their minds." Maria recalled. Her mother sighed, letting go of the topic and sat down next to her daughter.

"So, mother. I wanted to talk about a certain subject that I know you told me you never wanted to speak about." Maria began. Maria's mother seemed hesitant about the topic, but she let maria continue.

"From my recent encounters with a reporter, and a childhood friend, I found myself with a million questions that only you could answer." Maria continued.

"I was thirteen when father was sent to an asylum, I know at the time you think he deserved to be there. Not only because of the little green men he told you-us about, but because he had cheated on you a month before." A flash of sorrow twinkled in her mother's eyes when she said the part about the cheating.

"And after he was admitted, I know you hated him. I'm not sure if you thought he was crazy, or what..but I deserved to know that he..." Maria found herself pausing, wincing at the word murder.

"That he Murdered people, and that he went to prison and died." Maria's heart sunk a tiny bit when saying the word such as death. Her mother looked at her with teary eyes.

"You did deserve to know, maria. But, you were thirteen and it seemed like so much for a child to carry. So, I thought it was the best for you. You might've deserved to know, but I made the right decision. I stand by it." Her mother wiped a newly made tear that was rolling down her cheek.

"So, you just never planned on telling me? You send me away to an asylum where I clean up puke and shit?" Maria raised her voice. Something that she never did to her mother, her mother raised her strictly, though her father didn't.

"WATCH YOUR MOUTH."

Maria stared down at her skirt, not wanting to look up at her parent.

"Maria, I was going to tell you. Eventually. But, it hurts so much even remembering him." Her mother replied. Maria now had teary eyes, deciding to look her mother in the eyes.

"You didn't care if I knew or not. You were selfish and you wanted to act like he never existed." Maria snapped. A quick slap came across Maria's face, leaving a hot burning mark behind on her cheek.

"Shut up, you BRAT."

"I wasn't selfish! YOU ARE THE SELFISH ONE!" Tears ran down her moms face, leaving Maria with a numb feeling.

"You swore to me, maria! You swore!" Her mom yelled. She was shaking, crying, and couldn't look her own child in the eyes.

"I'm not sorry, mom." Maria said.

"Just answer one question of mine, then you can go back to acting like father never existed and me. Since that's what you've always done, your way of coping." Maria added. Maria had never dared to push her mother to her breaking point, not even close.

"What has gotten into you, child?" Her mother asked. She stood up, grabbing Maria's hands.

"You work as a nun, yet the devil is raging inside of you." Her mother began a prayer, but Maria slapped her hands off hers.

"I'm tired of the bullshit. The lies, the selfishness." Maria said.

"Do you believe fathers story, about the aliens?" Maria asked.

"Of course not."

"That's all I needed to hear." Maria replied. Maria grabbed her purse, and went for the doorknob but her mother took a grip on her harm.

"The devil will be casted out of you, my child. It got ahold of your father, but i won't let it get to you."

Maria shook her arm from her mother's grip, then replied..

"He saw fucking green men, not the devil mom. Otherwise he would've said the devil."

With that, she left back to the nest of evil, which took place in the asylum.
