94: The future

Authors note = Yes hello authors note here! How y'all enjoying this story? Alright so I wanted to clarify something because this fanfic is written by me but my best friend, whom I love very dearly always pre-reads the chapters because she too is a big F1 fan like me. When we used Oscar's girlfriend in this story (Lily) I used Grace as her name, which is weird because why would I use the name Grace when I could use the name Lily. I really don't know why I did that and we only found out later that we were using like another name while we could've used the correct one. IT'S SO WEIRD BECAUSE LILY IS LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAV WAGS (I love the lily wags <3). So yeah don't hate on me and sorry for this freaking long authors note I love talking oops.

Sienna's point of view

'Yes hello, my friend made the reservation', I tell the woman at the kiosk.

'Name please?', she asks, not looking up from her computer.

'Piastri'.

She looks up and smiles at me. 'Good morning, Miss Sainz'.

'Good morning', I spot Osc. 'I see him there, can I walk to him?'

'Yes you can, enjoy your breakfast'.

The café is quiet this early in the morning, with just a few other people sitting at tables. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries fills the air, creating a cozy atmosphere. I notice Oscar sitting at a small table near the window, checking his phone while he waits for me to arrive. It's been a while since we last caught up, and I'm excited to see him.

I walk to the table where Oscar is sitting, we have been apart for too long.

He spots me and he waves with that familiar bright smile of his. He looks relaxed in a casual t-shirt and jeans, his hair slightly tousled

'Oscar!' I call out, he's standing up to give me a quick hug. 'It's been too long'.

'I know! Feels like ages since we've had a proper chat. How have you been?' he asks as I sit down, glancing at the menu.

'Great! Enjoying the freedom of having no job,' I reply. 'Just watching the races and being there with my friends.'

Oscar nods, and his eyes sparkle with amusement. He gets a beep from his phone. 'Sorry that's Grace', he smiles. 'She says hi'.

'Tell her I said hi back. How's she doing?'

Oscar's face lights up when he talks about Grace. 'She's great. Still busy with her own stuff, but we make it work. She was asking about you, actually. Wants to know when we'll all hang out again'.

I smile, feeling a warmth in my chest. 'She's so adorable! We should plan something soon. I miss our crazy outings. And Lando's been asking when we'll all get together again too'.

Oscar chuckles. 'Ah, yes, the infamous Lando. How's that going, by the way? Are you two still in love? Carlos still okay with it?'

I laugh while taking a sip of my coffee. 'It's going well. Still in love, Carlos is still fine with it. We're happy, and that's what matters'.

'Good to hear,' Oscar says with a genuine smile. 'You both deserve it'.

'God... it feels like yesterday when the dating rumors came out and yet it's been two months or something', I smile. Time flies.

'Yeah, wasn't it beautiful when you believed in everything, and everybody believed in you? I sometimes wish I could go back to being 15 and being in my kart races', Oscar laughs.

'Yeah, those were simpler times. I miss how we used to joke around and take everything less seriously, although I'm afraid if I go back to 15 it's still the same for me, Carlos switched to Renault that year. God, so many memories on the tracks'.

The waitress comes by to take our order, and I can't help but notice how at ease I feel around Oscar. He's always been such a supportive friend, ever since his F2 days.

'So, how are things going with you at McLaren? I've heard a lot from Lando but I want your perspective', I laugh.

Oscar leans back comfortably, looking at me with his usual attentiveness. 'It's been great,' he says. 'The car has been improving a lot, and the team is really coming together. It's exciting to see how far we've come. If this is the same next year then I might be expecting my first win soon, If Maeve and Max let me'.

I laugh. 'Yeah, they're dominant. I've noticed the improvements though! McLaren has been really impressive this season. How's it been working with the new team members?'

Oscar smiles, clearly passionate about his work. 'Everyone's been fantastic. We've got some talented engineers who are pushing hard to get the most out of the car. It feels like we're on the right track, although you can sense it's almost the end of the season, people are busy talking about next year's car'.

'That's awesome,' I reply. 'Don't tell Fred, but I always admired McLaren's determination and innovation. It's like watching a puzzle come together when things click'.

Oscar chuckles. 'Exactly. It's not just about speed, it's the whole package. Aerodynamics, strategy, teamwork... everything has to align perfectly'.

As we continue talking, I feel a deep sense of admiration for Oscar's dedication. His passion for racing has always been contagious, and it's inspiring to see him thriving at McLaren.

'Have you thought about what the future holds for you in F1?' I ask, curious about his aspirations.

Oscar leans forward, thoughtful. 'I definitely want to keep pushing for podiums and eventually a championship. But it's also about enjoying the journey. The travel, the company, the competition... it's all part of the experience'.

I nod, appreciating his perspective. 'It must be amazing to chase those dreams. I remember back in the F2 days, you always had that focus and drive'.

Oscar smiles warmly. 'Thanks, Sienna. Those were special days, too. Everyone in F2 was getting ready for F1, it is so weird to acknowledge that all of them work so hard and only a few get chosen to really pursue F1. They get hired too soon, in my opinion, I mean, look at Logan... he pushes himself too hard, he's so hard on himself. If it wasn't for his podium two weeks ago he'd really think he could never achieve something like a win'.

'Absolutely,' I agree. 'It's hard to see that the drivers get dropped in an instant, people claim it's racing and I know, I've been in it my entire life but it's cruel. It's the same with Toro Rosso Pierre and Alex, it's honestly heartbreaking. Redbull dominating isn't helping either, I love Max and Maeve, they deserve it but so does everyone else'.

'I guess the other teams just have to work even harder next year, I would sure as hell like a win', Oscar laughs, raising his coffee cup in agreement.

'If I had a magic wand I would've granted you your win, but unfortunately, I'm not Las Tres Mellizas', I laugh.

'You keep me company, that's good enough'.
