Liquid Truths

07:27, 23 January 2023

The following day you train with Nat well into the afternoon, and then get ready for your date.

"I've got your location shared to my phone. Call if you need me," she walks you to the elevator.

You put your small, cross-body purse on and press the button to bring the elevator, "Got it."

Most of the team is hanging around in the main room as well. "Sure you don't want me on a nearby roof?" Clint calls to you.

You laugh a little, but shake your head, "Not this time. Be ready though." You smirk and step inside the elevator.

As you're going down, Tony comes back into the living area, "Ok, back to work. Nat, Steve, Barnes," he nods to the trio. "You're going on a 3-day mission, leaving tomorrow afternoon."

Everyone nods and scatters about, getting on with the rest of their days.

You've been sitting in a coffee shop a few blocks away from the tower for the last 30 minutes now. You've sent 2 texts to your 'date', but there's been no response. Honestly? Worse things could have happened. They have happened. At least this place made your iced coffee correctly, and the chocolate chip muffin was good. You sling your bag over your shoulder once more, throw your coffee out, and head back to the tower.

Inside the tower, it's quiet. Most are either training or sleeping. You toss your purse onto one of the couches and head to Tony's mini bar. Instead of taking a glass from one of the shelves, you pop the cork from the bottle and drink it straight.

"Toasting to a fantastic date?"

You ignore the person asking the question, lightly put the cork back into the bottle, and tuck it under your armpit, before grabbing a pint of ice cream from the freezer. You carry the duo to the couch, not offering a response.

"The date has left you speechless! That must be a first," Loki leans back against the arm of one of the chairs.

You still don't look at Loki, but you take another swig from the bottle, and use your other hand to hold up your middle finger instead.

"Oh dear. That is the second time you've used that on me. Has someone upset my mortal?" you can hear the grin on Loki's face as usual.

Now you place the bottle onto the coffee table in front of you and stand, "Leave. I'm really not in the mood right now."

Your demeanor causes Loki's smirk to fade, "No."

"Fine," you bend down and pick-up the bottle and ice cream and start walking away.

"I do not even get to hear about the date? Did they smell? Not pay? No personality?" Loki's now moved off of the chair and closer to where you had been sitting on the couch.

"They didn't come!" You say a lot louder than you anticipated, which causes you to exhale a sigh and turn around. "Happy?"

Loki squints his eyes, "...what do you mean? Natasha had said that your date was taking place at 7pm..."

You look down, "Yea, well, for me it did."

"What was their reason for not attending?" Loki presses.

"That would imply that they actually gave one," you run your tongue along your top teeth and look back up at Loki.

His brows are still furrowed, "Y/N..."

You shake your head and put on a fake smile, "Doesn't matter. Now I have a date with this bottle," you hold it up. "And two guys named Ben and Jerry," you do the same and return back to the couch.

Loki plops down right next to you, making a bottle appear as well, "You deserve better."

The bottle you have pops off of your lips as Loki finishes his sentence, "I thought I did too, but..." You sigh and take another sip, the bottle now closing-in on halfway done, "Men suck."

"It is a good thing that I am a God then," Loki's smirk reappears. "How do we fair?"

You side-eye Loki, "It varies from moment to moment."

Loki shifts and turns slightly to you, "That implies that you actually like me."

"It VARIES," you roll your eyes. "You think very highly of yourself, don't you?"

"We've been over this, Y/N. I believe that is YOU," Loki winks.

"Anddddd back to disliking you," you switch to the ice cream.

You and Loki sit in silence for a few minutes, before he chimes in, "So. When was the last pathetic mortal to fall for this exact...'charm' of yours?"

You swirl the remainder of the alcohol in your bottle, "Realistically?"

Loki nods once.

You bite the inside of your cheek, and you actually think about it, "...over 5 years ago. Probably closer to 7 or 8."

"Can no mortal meet your expectations?" Loki raises an eyebrow.

You normally don't open up to anyone. Maybe Nat, but even she doesn't know everything. But Loki? Before you can think more into it, your mouth starts speaking, "Well, usually one of the following happens: One, the person finds out my last name and runs or just stops replying. Or two, they find out my last name and at the end of the 'date', they give me their resume to give to Tony."

Loki doesn't say a word, just continues to stare at you.

"I...haven't told that part to anyone," now you squint in confusion. "I think Nat and Clint would have their heads if I told them," you go to take another sip, but it's empty. "And now I need another bottle."

When you stand, you nearly fall over, but Loki's instantly holding you up, "I believe you have had enough."

You wave the bottle at Loki, "You...have no say in that." You start to walk away.

"Do not make me carry you to bed," Loki calls to you.

"Is that a promise or a threat, Loki?" Ok, now you believe that you've had too much to drink.

"Yes, you have DEFINITELY had enough," Loki laughs. "This time it is a threat, my mortal."
