Have a female protagonist who is emotionally strong. Like, if she can kick a lot of ass, then it's okay, but if she desperately needs her boyfriend by her side all the time then just no.

Someone write some good Game of Thrones fan fiction. Please. There is a serious lack of GoT fanfic.

If you're writing about Renesme Cullen (I don't know if I spelled her name right --sorry) then get her a believable boyfriends.

Don't make the parents disappear. Parents exist. Or at least, someone who can take care of a teenager.

Your protagonist does not need to be seventeen.
