Chapter 4
02:01, 4 September 2023Sidney's House
"Hello, Sidney." That same deep voice is heard through the phone and Stacey freezes as Sidney looks at her friend.
"Hi. Who is this?" She asks a little unsure.
"You tell me." He answers.
Sidney puts the call on speaker and Stacey holds her breath, flashes of saturday night going through her head. "I have no idea." The brunette answers.
"Scary night, isn't it?" The man says. "With the murders and all, it's like right out of a horror movie and all."
"Haha Randy, you gave yourself away." Sidney rolls her eyes and gives Stacey a reassuring smile. "Are you calling from work? Tatum's on her way over."
"Do you like scary movies, Sidney?" The man asks and Stacey shakes her head, knowing that isn't Randy.
"I like that thing you're doing with your voice, Randy. It's sexy!" Sidney grins.
Stacey puts the call on hold and stares at Sidney. "Sid, that's the killer. I recognize his voice." Sidney looks at the phone. "Whatever you do, just keep your cool and play along while I search the house." She gets the caller on again.
"What's your favorite scary movie?" The man asks in a flirty tone.
Sidney breathes while Stacey goes into the other room. "Don't start. You know I don't watch that shit."
"And why is that?" The voice questions.
"Because they're all the same." Stacey gives Sidney a thumbs up and goes upstairs. "It's always some stupid killer stalking some big breasted girl, who can't act, who always runs upstairs when she should be going out the front door. They're ridiculous."
Stacey comes back to the living room and nods at Sidney. "Are you alone in the house?" He asks.
"That is so unoriginal." Sidney sighs while Stacey looks out the window. "You disappoint me, Randy."
"Maybe that's because I'm not Randy." He replies with an amused tone.
"So who are you?" Sidney asks as she stares at the door.
"The question is not who am I. The question is where am I?"
Stacey gets closer to the phone, her face bright red. "Listen you sick fuck, I'm done playing games with you. Show your face and finish what you started with me."
A slight chuckle is heard. "Hello, Stacey. I missed your voice."
"Where the fuck are you?" The blonde asks.
"The front porch." He answers.
Sidney goes to the window and pulls the drapes aside. "Why would you call me from my front porch?" She asks.
"That's the original part." He says, amused by the whole situation.
The brunette tries to see the porch but she's unable to reach the entirety of it."Oh yeah? Well, I call your bluff." Sidney makes her way to the front porch and reaches for the doorknob.
"Please, don't." Stacey grabs her hand and shakes her head. "It might be a trap."
"It's alright." Sidney opens the door and it is empty. There's no one in sight. "So where are you?"
"Right here." The man answers.
Sidney and Stacey peer out the front porch and all they see is total darkness. "Can you see me right now?"
"Uh huh."
"What am I doing?" Sidney takes a strand of Stacey's hair and places it on her upper lip, like a mustache. There's no answer. "Good try, Randy. Tell Tatum to hurry up. Bye."
"If you hang up on me, you'll die just like your mother." The man threatens.
Sidney stops in her tracks and Stacey places her hand on Sid's lower back. "Do you want to die, Sidney? Your mother didn't." The voice keeps taunting her.
Stacey grabs the phone and both girls go inside. "FUCK YOU, CRETIN!" The blonde yells and hangs up the phone on him.
Sidney locks the front door while Stacey runs to the back door to lock it. She was not gonna let this creep inside like in Casey's house. Stacey was careless then, but she was prepared now.
Suddenly, a figure jumps on Sidney and gets on top of her as she goes down to the floor and starts screaming. Stacey runs to Sidney and freezes as she sees the figure dressed in black robes, the same white ghostly mask, the combat boots and the knife... the knife that slashed her friend and nearly slashed her.
Stacey throws the phone at the killer and gets his attention. "Hey, little fucker! Come at me." The figure starts chasing Stacey and Sidney gets the opportunity to bolt to the front door, unlocking it. She opens the door but gets stuck on the chain. With no other viable option. Sidney runs upstairs just as Stacey gets stabbed in the arm. She is able to kick the killer and runs upstairs after Sidney.
The killer chases after Stacey and grabs her foot while she runs upstairs. Sidney stops running and looks at her friend. "Go to your room and lock the door. Don't worry about me." Stacey demands and Sidney keeps running. The blonde girl reaches a framed picture and smashes it into the killer's head, sending him tumbling down the stairs. She gets outside Sidney's room and knocks on the door. "Sid, whatever you do, don't open this damn door to anyone. I'll keep distracting the fucker."
"Stace, it's too dangerous. Just get inside." Sidney starts unlocking the door.
Ghostface, as Stacey calls him, catches up to the girl and throws the blonde across the hall. Sidney locks her door and opens the closet door, positioning it right at the doorknob and starts typing on her computer.
The killer starts pounding at the door and Sidney sends a 911 call through her computer. The man keeps slashing the door and it cracks open. His hand that's holding the knife slashes through the crack like crazy while Sidney types her address. Suddenly, she realizes the figure is gone. There's total silence.
Stacey limps to the door and looks at Sidney through the crack. "Sid, he's gone."
Sidney opens the door and hugs her friend. "Are you okay?"
"He stabbed me in the arm and shoved me to the floor but I'll live." Stacey answers as she uses her cardigan to stop the bleeding.
There's a message on her computer saying that help is on the way. Then, both girls hear a noise. They look up to see Billy Loomis. "Oh Billy, please... God."
"I heard screaming." Billy explains. "The door was locked. Are you okay?" He seems genuinely concerned as he looks at his girlfriend.
"He's here." Stacey says. "He's trying to kill us."
Billy climbs through the window while looking at the girls and something falls from his pocket. A black cellular phone. "Sid..." Stacey points at the object on the phone.
Sidney stares at the phone and then at Billy and she starts to move away from her boyfriend. "Hey... wait... Sid..."
Billy reaches for her but she grabs Stacey's hand and both girls run for their lives, thinking Billy is the killer. They reach the front door and open it, only to scream terrified of the white mask staring at them. They hear another scream and realize it is Dewey holding the mask.
Stacey jumps into Dewey's arms, her eyes filled with tears. "I've never been happier to see you." She says through sobs.
"He's in the house." Sidney points upstairs as some officers enter the house and head to Sidney's room.
Dewey examines the girls and nods to the paramedic, who examines Stacey's gash. "It's not a deep cut." The paramedic says. "You were lucky."
"That's me. Lucky should be my middle name." Stacey winces as the paramedic cleans the wound.
The girls watch as the officer walks a handcuffed Billy to the back of the police car. He looks at the girls and Sidney looks away. His brown eyes are full of hurt. Stacey feels sorry for him. Maybe he was genuinely trying to help them. "I didn't do anything!" He screams and the officer reads him his rights. "Sid... where is she? Ask her, she'll tell ya..."
Sheriff Burke shows up and Dewey walks up to him. "We got him, Sheriff. Billy Loomis."
"Hank Loomis' kid?" He scratched his head. "Aw, Jesus..."
"He's Sidney's boyfriend." Dewey informs him.
They approach Billy at the police car. "Sheriff, I didn't do it. Please, call my dad. Please..." The boy pleads with real tears in his eyes.
The police car drives away as Tatum parks outside the house. She gets out of the car, freaked out, and walks to the girls. The sheriff looks at the three girls and then turns to Dewey. "I was first to respond." The deputy informs his superior.
"What were you doing out here?" Sheriff Burke asks.
"Drive by patrol." Dewey answers.
The sheriff sighs. "How are they?"
"They're both tough."
"Have to be." Burke replies. "The shit they've gone through."
As the paramedics check on Sidney and Stacey, Sheriff Burke approaches the girls. "We're seeing a lot of you today." He tells the brunette.
Sidney tries to smile but fails as Tatum holds her hand. "You gonna be able to come down to the station and talk to us a bit?" Dewey asks the girls.
"Yeah." The girls respond in unison.
"What happened?" Tatum asks her friends. "Oh God..." She notices Stacey's bandaged arm.
"What are you doing here?" Dewey scold his little sister.
Tatum ignores her brother and turns to the girls. "Oh God, I'm sorry I was late." She hugs Sidney and nods at Stacey.
"You can't be here, Tatum." Dewey sighs. "This is an official crime scene."
"It's okay." Sidney looks at Dewey. "She was supposed to pick us up."
"Yeah, my mom is stuck on a case." Stacey explains.
"And Sidney's dad is out of town." Tatum continues. "They're staying with us."
Dewey grabs Tatum's arm. "Does mom know?"
Tatum lets go of his grip. "Yes, you doofus."
Two news vans appear out of nowhere and Sheriff Burke shakes his head. "The vultures are coming." He turns to the girls. "Let's get you out of here."
...
Police Station
Sidney and Stacey are sitting at a desk, both girls drinking water as they wait to hear from the officers. Dewey approaches them with a concerned look on his face. "Did you reach my dad?" The brunette asks.
"You're sure it was the Hilton?" The deputy asks.
"At the airport." Sidney replies.
"He's not registered." Dewey sighs. "Could he have gone to another hotel?"
Sidney looks at her friend. "I don't know. I guess."
"We'll find him, Sid. Don't worry." He gives her a reassuring smile.
"What about my mom?" Stacey asks.
"Her phone is off but I left a message and I'm sure she'll respond."
Stacey holds Sidney's hand and smiles softly at her. "I'm sure Billy is innocent. It was all a misunderstanding."
"I hope so." Sidney lets out a deep breath that she must've been holding for a while. Tatum shows up and hugs both girls as she looks at her brother who's talking to Sheriff Burke.
"That ghost mask is sold at both Kroger's and Walmart." Dewey informs the sheriff. "Neither of which keep purchase records."
"What about the cellular phone bill?" Burke asks.
"They're pulling Loomis' account." Dewey glances at the girls. "But it'll be morning before we see something. You think he did it?"
The sheriff takes a quick look around the bull pen. "Twenty years ago I woulda said not a chance. But these kids today..." He shakes his head. "Damn if I know."
Tatum approaches Dewey and the sheriff. "Hey, Dewey. Can we go now?"
"Hold up a sec..." He answers.
"They're staying with you?" Burke asks while eyeing Tatum.
"We haven't located Neil yet and Ellen is out of reach."
"Goddamnit, Dewey!" Tatum yells.
Dewey turns to her, his face red in anger and embarrassment. ""What did mama tell you?" He scolds his sister. "When I wear this badge you treat me like a man of the law."
"I'm sorry Deputy Dewey boy, but we're ready to go." Tatum says sarcastically while crossing her arms in a defying manner.
"Use the back way." Sheriff Burke suggests. "Avoid the circus."
Sidney, Stacey, Tatum, Dewey and a couple of officers head to the back door and Dewey opens the door. The press is in front of the station waiting to speak to Stacey and Sidney like vultures. "I'll get the car. Wait here." Dewey tells the girls.
As he takes off, Gale Weather appears with her camera man, Kenny. "Hello Stacey." Gale greets the girl with her signature pearly white smile. "Some night. Are you alright?" Sidney glares at the reporter and Stacey just stays silent. "What happened?" She presses.
Tatum steps in front of Gale with a killer stare. "She's not answering your questions. Just leave us alone, okay?"
Stacey holds her friend's arm. "It's okay, Tatum. She's just doing her job." She turn to the reporter. "Right, Gale?"
"Yes, that's right." Gale responds.
Dewey pulls up at the alley in the police car. "How's the book?" Sidney asks with a stern voice.
"It'll be out later this year." The reporter replies.
"I'll look for it." Sidney retorts.
"I'll send you a copy." Gale turns to Stacey. "And I'll send you one too."
In a fit of rage, Stacey smashes her clenched fist into Gale's face, sending her backwards and crashing into Kenny. Both stumble to the floor and both Tatum and Sidney gasp in shock. Stacey just stares at Gale before turning to Dewey's car, feeling empowered.
