Chapter 1
21:23, 2 September 2023It's saturday night, also known as 'movie night'. Stacey Hastings, a 17 year old girl, makes her way to Casey Becker's house. The two girls started their saturday night tradition after meeting in highschool. Of course, the girls had their eventual fallout when Casey started dating Stu Macher, Stacey's long time on-again-off-again boyfriend. Right now, the two cheerleaders were besties again.
Stacey rings the doorbell of Casey's impressive and isolated house. She is greeted by her friend, a blonde girl with wide eyes and a sweet smile. "I thought you weren't coming!" The girl states as she lets Stacey in. "What took you so long?"
"I went to Blockbuster." Stacey shows Casey the three movies she rented. "I got Carrie, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Prom Night. This one was recommended by Randy. You know how much he loves Jamie Lee Curtis." Stacey chuckles and Casey rolls her eyes.
Casey picks a movie and sighs loudly. "You know Stace, I never understood why you were friends with that loser Meeks kid." She makes her way to the kitchen and puts popcorn on the stove.
Stacey sits on the island counter and giggles. "Randy is funny and we share the same passion for horror movies." The blonde takes a grape from the fruit ball and smirks. "Besides, he gets me all the movies I want without charging me. If I weren't dating Stu I would totally go for Randy." Both girls laugh and suddenly, the phone rings.
"Hello." Casey answers.
"Hello." A man's voice answers.
"Yes..." Casey is growing impatient while Stacey mouths Who is it? while her friend shrugs.
"Who is this?" The man asks.
Casey rolls her eyes as Stacey gets off the counter and leans closer to her friend. "Who are you trying to reach?"
"What number is this?" The man asks and Stacey almost bursts out laughing.
Casey shushes her friend and then answers the stranger. "What number are you trying to reach?" She asks with a friendly tone.
"I don't know." The man answers in a deep voice that sounds almost sexy. At least to Casey.
"I think you have the wrong number." Casey responds while Stacey looks at the popcorn.
"Do I?" The man seems genuinely embarrassed.
Casey smiles before answering. "It happens. Take it easy." The blonde hangs up the phone as she approaches her friend. "Is the popcorn almost ready?"
Stacey jiggles the popcorn and shakes her head, making her blonde locks sway a little. "You do know this takes time, right?"
Casey rolls her eyes and pats her friend's shoulder. "That's why you're in charge, Stace." The girls laugh and Casey takes a couple of sodas from the fridge. "Do you want grape or cherry?"
"You know I always go for cherry." Stacey smiles and Casey hands her the cherry soda. "I was surprised you called me instead of going out with Steve." Stacey says after taking a small sip from her soda. "I mean, we don't hang out as much after the whole Stu debacle and I feel like it's my fault."
Casey looks at her blonde friend and sighs. "Look, I was a bitch for going after Stu in the first place while you two were going out. It's all on me." The girl grabs her friend's hand. "I just don't understand why you're dating that asshole. He's such a jerk!" She laughs.
Stacey rolls her eyes. "Stu is great to me and he always makes me laugh." She smiles. "And he's great in bed." She wiggles her eyebrows and Casey laughs loudly, almost dropping her soda.
"That he is." Casey smirks and then the phone rings again. "Damnit!" She seems annoyed as she picks up the phone. "Hello." She tries to sound polite even though she just wants to hang up.
"I'm sorry. I guess I dialed the wrong number." It's the same voice as before.
Casey signals Stacey to the stove and the blonde nods. "So why did you dial it again?" She is curious.
"To apologize." He answers.
"You're forgiven." Casey smiles. "Bye now."
"Wait, wait, don't hang up." The man pleads.
Casey stands in front of the sliding glass door and looks outside. It's pitch black. "What?"
"I want to talk to you for a second." The man replies.
"They've got 900 numbers for that." Casey rolls her eyes and Stacey raises an eyebrow. "See ya." She hangs up and grins at her friend. "Can you believe this guy?"
Stacey walks to her friend and grabs the phone. "Maybe he's lonely." She gasps. "Or he's a stalker who wants to wear your skin like that guy from Silence of the Lambs.
Casey rolls her eyes and chuckles. "You are such a dork."
...
The popcorn starts to sizzle on the stove and Casey puts a lid on it so it will pop safely. The phone rings again and this time Stacey answers. "Hello, creep." The blonde smirks and Casey grins.
"Why don't you want to talk to me?" The man asks, seeming deeply offended.
"Hang on!" Stacey hands the phone to Casey. "It's your boyfriend." She laughs and Casey grabs the phone.
"Who is this?" Casey asks with an annoyed tone. She really just wants to enjoy her night with her best friend.
"You tell me your name, I'll tell you mine." He offers.
Stacey is shaking the popcorn while Casey sighs. "I don't think so."
"What's that noise?" He asks.
Casey smiles and decides to play along with the stalker. "Popcorn."
"You're making popcorn?"
"My friend is." Casey replies and Stacey shakes her head.
"I only eat popcorn at the movies." He says.
"I'm getting ready to watch a video." Casey states.
"Really? What?" The man asks, curiosity getting the best of him.
Casey looks at her friend and nods. "Just some scary movie."
"Do you like scary movies?" He asks.
"Sort of." Casey says unsure. "My friend is completely obsessed with it though." Stacey shows her the finger and the blonde giggles.
"Can I talk to your friend?" He asks, slightly nervous.
Casey passes the phone to Stacey. "It's your turn, bitch!" She slaps Stacey's butt and moves to the living room.
"Hey." Stacey greets the stranger.
"What's your favorite scary movie?" His deep voice is very attractive and Stacey smirks.
"I don't know." She answers in a sultry voice.
"You have to have a favorite." Is he flirting with her?
Stacey sits at the kitchen counter and stares outside. She can't see anything but it comforts her. "Halloween. You know, the one where Jamie Lee Curtis plays a babysitter and is stalked by a guy with a white mask. What's yours?"
"Guess." He replies.
The blonde girl decides to play his little game. "Nightmare on Elm Street."
"Is that the one where the guy had knives for fingers?"
"Yeah... Freddy Krueger." It is actually one of Stacey's favorite movies.
"Freddy, that's right. I liked that movie. It was scary." It seems as if he is smiling.
Stacey smiles. "The first one was, but the rest sucked." She confirms.
"So, you gotta boyfriend?" That damned voice is like honey to Stacey.
"Actually I do." The blonde answers truthfully. Even though she enjoys messing with this creep, she could never pretend she isn't in love with her goofy boyfriend, Stu. "I need to check on the popcorn. Do you mind talking to my friend?"
"Not at all." The man replies.
Stacey goes to the living room and hands the phone to Casey. "Your stalker boyfriend missed you." She sticks her tongue out and goes to check on the popcorn.
"So... do you have a boyfriend?" The guy asks.
Casey giggles. "Why? You wanna ask me out?"
"Maybe. Do you have a boyfriend?" He insists.
"No." She lies.
"You never told me your name." He points out.
Casey smiles and twirls her short blonde hair. "Why do you want to know my name?"
"Because I want to know who I'm looking at."
Casey immediately walks into the kitchen and faces the glass door. "What did you say?" She asks, feeling a little uneasy as Stacey just looks at her with furrowed eyebrows.
"I want to know who I'm talking to." The man answers casually.
"That's not what you said." Stacey walks closer to her friend and puts her hand on Casey's shoulder.
"What do you think I said?"
Casey clicks on the outside light and starts to look around the backyard. What if the guy is really watching the girls? He can be dangerous. Stacey joins Casey and both girls realize there's no one outside. Casey turns the light off and sighs in relief. The popcorn pops and it scares Stacey. "I have to go now." Casey says.
"Wait... I thought we were gonna go out."
"Nah, I don't think so." Casey is actually scared and creeped out.
"Don't hang up on me." He warns her.
"Gotta go."
"Don't..." Casey doesn't even let him finish his sentence and hangs up on the creepy guy.
She checks the glass door to make sure it is locked and turns to her friend. "I think we should just watch the fucking movie and stop talking to creepy guys who may be watching us."
"What?" Stacey is shocked. "That fucking asshole is watching us?"
"I don't know..." The phone rings and she looks at Stacey for confirmation on what to do.
Stacey picks up the phone as Casey slides the popcorn from the stove. "Yes?"
"I told you not to hang up on me." His voice seems a bit angry.
"What do you want?" Stacey asks with an annoyed tone. Maybe he will get the memo if she seems pissed enough.
"To talk." His voice is calmer now as if he recognizes Stacey's voice.
"Tough luck, buddy. Dial someone else, okay?"
"You getting scared?" He is amused which pisses Stacey even more.
"No. I'm fucking bored." Stacey replies and hangs up.
Casey grabs the phone to put it on rest but it rings again. "Listen, asshole..."
"NO, YOU LISTEN, YOU LITTLE BITCH. IF YOU HANG UP ON ME AGAIN I'LL GUT YOU LIKE A FISH. UNDERSTAND?" His voice is like venom, which scares Casey.
She is silent for a minute. Could this be a prank? Or is it for real? "Is this some kind of a joke?"
"More of a game, really."
Casey looks at the glass door and Stacey bolts to the front door to lock it, much to Casey's relief. Now both girls are scared.
"I'm two seconds from calling the police." Casey tries to sound confident.
"They'd never make it in time." He seems certain of his statement.
Stacey looks through the peephole, her hands shaking, and sees the front porch is empty. She gives Casey a thumbs up and both girls sigh in relief.
"What do you want?" Casey asks, fearing for her safety.
The man chuckles at her question. "TO SEE WHAT YOUR INSIDES LOOK LIKE."
Casey's jaw drops and her face contorts into total and utter fear. She hangs up the phone and throws it at the table. "Case, just breathe. We're safe." Stacey tries to calm her friend down. "If he calls again, just put it on speaker." Casey nods as the bell starts ringing, making both girls leap out of their skin.
Casey turns to the door uncertain of her next move. "Who's there?"
"That's a stupid move, Casey." Stacey points out. "If it's stalker boy then we're dead!"
The door bell rings again and Casey gets closer to the door. "Who's there?" She screams. There's no answer and Stacey decides to get the phone to call the police. "Give me the phone. I'm calling 911." Casey grabs the phone from Stacey but it starts ringing, scaring her and she almost drops it.
The girl puts the call on speaker, just like Stacey suggested, and waits to hear who's on the other side. "You should never say 'who's there'. Don't you watch scary movies? It's a death wish." He is now taunting the girls.
Casey almost collapses but Stacey grabs her arm and both girls try to hang tough. "Look pal, enough is enough. You had your fun. Now you better leave us alone, or else..."
"Or else what?" The man interrupts Stacey, knowing full well he has the upper hand.
Casey almost immediately jumps in front of the phone. "My boyfriend will be here any second and he will be pissed when I tell him..."
"I thought you didn't have a boyfriend." He's teasing them now. Does he know the girls?
"I lied." Casey admits and Stacey shaker her head. "I do have a boyfriend and he'll be here any second and your ass better be gone."
"Sure..." He drags his voice indicating he knows Steve is not coming. How could he? Steve and Casey didn't make plans that night so, of course, he isn't coming.
"I swear it. And he's big and he plays football and will beat the shit out of you." Casey is more confident and Stacey just stares at the fucking phone.
"I'm getting scared." He mocks her.
"I'm telling you the truth." Casey looks offended. "I lied before..."
"I believe you..."
"So you better leave." Casey threatens and Stacey just stands there.
"His name wouldn't be Steve, would it?"
There's a long silence and Casey just stares at Stacey, searching for confirmation. "How do you know his name?" Stacey chimes in.
"Go to the back door and turn on the porch light again." He challenges the girls and they obey.
Casey is terrified and Stacey helps her move. They reach the glass doors and Casey turns on the light with shaky hands. The girls gasp as they see Steve tied to a lawn chair in the middle of the backyard looking terrified. "Oh God!" Casey cries.
Stacey takes the phone from Casey and puts one hand on her left shoulder. "You have to be strong for Steve. Whoever this psycho is, he's just one person. We're two."
"I'm scared, Stace." Casey keeps crying.
Stacey moves her hand to unlock the door. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." The man threatens.
Terror creeps into both girls' faces. "Where are you?" Casey asks.
"Guess." He replies. The same answer he gave Stacey when she asked about his favorite horror movie. What a sick fuck!
Both girls look at the backyard, carefully examining every inch with their eyes. "Please don't hurt him." Casey begs.
"That all depends on you."
"Why are you doing this?" Casey is desperate. Tears start running down her angelic face.
"I wanna play a game." He answers.
Stacey gets angry at his answer. "How about you end this and we don't call the police? Sounds a sweet fucking game, huh?"
"Then he dies, right now." He threatens.
Casey gets close to Stacey. "No!" She yells. "Steve can't die, please!"
"Which is it?"
Another long silence. Casey touches the glass and Stacey grabs her arm. They look at Steve who is crying. "What kind of game?" Casey finally asks.
"Turn off the light." The man demands.
Casey's hand reaches the switch while Steve struggles to get free. She takes one last look at her boyfriend and turns off the light. The girls then decide to move to the living room to find a place to hide, in case the psycho breaks in.
"Here's how we play." He starts to explain the rules. "I ask a question. If you get it right, Steve lives."
Stacey shakes her head. "That's a stupid game. How can we trust you?"
"You know Stacey, this is none of your concern. Your friend is the one I want." He pauses. "You are free to go, if you want."
Casey grabs Stacey with tears in her eyes. "Please don't leave me."
The blonde cups her friend's face and smiles. "Leave no man behind, right?" Stacey turns off the lamp and crouches behind the couch next to Casey.
"Please don't do this." Casey begs.
"Come on. It'll be fun." He chuckles. Must be really funny for him to scare two teenage girls.
"Just ask the fucking question." Stacey demands, impatiently.
"It's an easy category. Movie trivia." His tone is almost excited. As if he's getting off on terrorizing Casey.
Casey keeps begging to no avail. "Please..."
"I'll even give you a warm up question." How benevolent...
"Don't do this. I can't..."
Stacey interrupts her and covers the phone with her jacket. "You can do this. I will signal you the answer and everything will be fine." She reassures her friend before grabbing the phone.
"Name the killer in Halloween."
"No..." Casey cries. She knows the answer but is too nervous to think straight.
"Come on. It's your best friend's favorite scary movie. He had a white mask and stalked Jamie Lee Curtis..."
Stacey mouths the answer but Casey can't make up the answer. "I don't know."
"Come on, yes you do." Why does he want her to get the answer right? Isn't he going to kill them either way?
"Please, stop..." Casey sobs in desperation and fear.
"What's his name?" He keeps pushing her.
"I can't think." Casey has reached her breaking point and Stacey hugs her friend.
"Steve's counting on you." He's way too cheery for a murderous bastard.
Stacey snaps her fingers to get Casey's attention and mouths the answer slowly so that her friend can answer correctly. "Michael..." Casey says. "Michael Myers."
"YES!" He seems excited and Casey sighs in relief. "Now for the real question."
"No..." Casey is in desperation mode again.
"But you're doing so well." The man replies.
"Please go away! Leave us alone!" Casey looks at Stacey who is glaring at the phone.
"Then answer the question. Same category."
Casey is a mess and she can't even answer. "She got the question right. Just leave! We won't tell." Stacey tries to reason with the creep.
"Name the killer in Friday the 13th."
A smile appears in Casey's face and she feels confident. "Jason... Jason... It's Jason!" She screams at the top of her lungs, confident she got the answer right.
After a small pause, he answers. "I'm sorry, that's the wrong answer."
"No it's not. It was Jason." Casey is mad because she believes she is right.
Stacey shakes her head and a tear streams down her face. "Case, the original killer is not Jason."
"It was Jason." Casey continues. "I saw that godamn movie twenty time. We both did. It was Jason." She looks at Stacey with hurt in her eyes.
"Then you should know Jason's mother, Mrs. Vorhees, was the original killer." He is pissed.
"Jason didn't show up until the sequel." Stacey whispered.
"Your friend is right. She really is a true movie buff." The stalker mocks Casey.
"You tricked me..." Casey realizes and starts to panic.
"Lucky for you, there's a bonus round." The man chuckles. "But poor Steve... I'm afraid he's out."
His statement sends the girls running to the kitchen. Casey turns on the backyard lights and screams in horror. Stacey hugs her friend as she looks at Steve's eviscerated body. His guts lay on the floor between his legs. A large pool of warm crimson red liquid surround the football player. Casey collapses on the floor and sobs hysterically.
"Final question. Are you ready?" His voice is even more excited than before. He really enjoys these stupid games.
Stacey gets up and bangs her hands on the glass door, hoping the killer will show himself. "You're a fucking coward! You use these games to taunt us, knowing full well we are not getting out of here alive."
There's a long pause. "You can still leave, Stacey. Like I said, you're not the one I want."
Casey turns off the light and stares at the phone. "Leave us alone, please..." There's no emotion in her voice.
"Answer the question and I will."
Casey is curled on the floor like a child, completely freaking out, while Stacey embraces her for comfort. In two years of friendship, Stacey has always been Casey's rock. She's the one who can remain calm and weather any storm. Perhaps, she gained that ability from witnessing her parents' marriage crash and burn. Either way, Stacey was strong and needed to stay calm for Casey.
"What door am I at?" He asks.
"What the fuck?" Stacey questions in shock.
"There are two doors to your house." He states. "A front door and a back one. If you answer correctly, you live."
Stacey's green eyes light up. "Case, we can do this. You stay here and I'll check the front door." She smiles. "He can't take both of us."
"Don't make me do this." Casey says, trying to distract him while Stacey leaves to the front door. "I can't... I won't..."
"Your call."
Casey crawls to the kitchen counter and grabs the sharpest knife she could find. She looks around and sees Stacey looking through the peephole. "Casey, there's no one here. We can unlock the door and run as fast as we can." She nods and Stacey opens the front door but is attacked by a masked figure who pushes her through her blonde hair. Casey hides as the masked killer knocks her friend unconscious.
The ghostly mask stares into Stacey's bright eyes and leans close to her. "I told you to leave." He shows his hunting knife and gets closer to Stacey. "But I won't kill you. I promised." He leaves the house after making sure that Stacey was out.
Casey returns to the kitchen and opens the latch of the window to make her escape. She feels bad for Stacey but she was right, the killer can't get both of them. She crawls through the window with the phone in one hand and the knife on the other but ends up dropping the knife. Knowing she can actually make her great escape, she leaves the knife and hides at the corner of the house.
"I can hear you. I know you're here." The killer taunts her.
To reach the front of the house she needs to walk through the three curtainless windows. She takes a peek on the first window and sees Stacey lying on the foyer floor. She goes to the next window and sees the killer on the other side of the room. She reaches the third window and takes one last peek, only to be surprised by a ghostly white mask, only inches from her, and she screams bloody murder. The killer breaks the window glass and tries to grab Casey by the neck but she beats him and is able to break free.
Casey runs to the front of her house and looks at the door. It's closed. She keeps running and sees some headlights. It's her parents! The blonde girl feels like she's finally safe until she feels something running down her back. She takes a look at her shirt and notices a red liquid staining it. The masked killer stabs Casey again and she drops on one knee. He tries to stab her again but is blocked by the phone that Casey is still holding onto.
Casey is able to move forward, her parents only a few feet away. She tries to scream, but no sound comes out of her mouth. The killer is right behind her, ready to take her out.
The couple reach the house and notice the front door is unlocked. "Wait here!" Mr. Becker opens the door and sees Stacey on the floor, all bruised and bloodied. "Jesus..."
"What is it?" Mrs. Becker emerges from behind her husband and gasps. "Stacey?"
"Call the police." He demands.
"Where's Casey?" Mrs. Becker asks. "Casey? Casey?!" She calls out.
Mr. Becker kneels next to Stacey and checks for her pulse. She's alive.
Casey is still holding the phone as the killer drags her by her foot. She knows she's not going to survive this. Flashes of her happiest moments go through her mind. She remembers meeting Stacey and all of their adventures together. Why did it have to end like this? Is Stacey dead? Those were her thoughts.
Inside the house, Mrs. Becker gets the phone and dials a number but it doesn't work. "The phone's dead."
There's a soft voice coming from the phone. "Help me..."
"She's here, God. I can hear her." Mrs. Becker starts crying. "Where's my baby?"
"Where is she?" Mr. Becker asks.
"Not my daughter... Not her!" Mrs. Becker begs.
Mr. Becker gets a hold of his wife and stares into her eyes. "Get in the car and drive down to our neighbors."
As Mrs. Becker gets in the car, Mr. Becker goes outside once he hears a scream coming from his wife. They stare in horror at the sight in front of them. Casey Becker, their only child, is hung from an old oak tree, her insides out and her eyes open, swinging.
