Something Different: Percy
01:10, 28 November 2017This is unedited, but it's a little different. See the end for more notes. Hope you enjoy!
"And if you get lost in the light it's okay I can see in the dark"
Percy had had a really bad day. Don't get me wrong, he loved working at Camp Half-Blood, teaching all the little demigods how to hold a bow and wield a sword. But there were just some days when his patience just ran out, when he wanted to eat an entire blue cake and drink about 3 liters of blue soda, when he just wanted to hang out with Annabeth on the couch and watch bad movies and cuddle and just be.
So when he walked through the door to their apartment and didn't see Annabeth, he was exhausted, and a little disappointed. But as he dropped his keys into the bowl by the door, he noticed that he keys, complete with the owl key chain, were already resting in the bowl.
"Hey I'm home," he hollered, hoping to find Annabeth by the sound of her voice.
"Hey I'm in the kitchen," she hollered back. Percy wandered into the kitchen, praying to all the Gods (big and small) that she wasn't cooking. He loved Annabeth, but the plates from Camp were a godsend. (Literally...Poseidon had given them blue versions as a housewarming gift.)
When he did find her, she was hunched over her laptop, a giant binder filled to the brim laying next to her. Percy came up behind her and kissed her head. "Whatcha got there Wise Girl?"
"It's a trip. For you and me. I've been planning it for a while, but it's my gift to you. I know you love your job at Camp, but I also know that it's been a hard couple of days for you. So, this weekend we're going to the Berkshires," she turned and grinned up at him.
"You didn't have to do all this," he murmured, already snooping in her binder.
"I know I didn't have to. I wanted to." she shrugged like it was the simplest thing in the world.
"You're too good to me, Wise Girl."
"Yup," she grinned, teasing him. "And you're too good to me."
He kissed her head again, and then they got up to go settle on the couch. Annabeth grabbed two plates from the counter while Percy lit their fireplace. They made their sacrifices quickly, and then age on the couch, watching The Crown. Annabeth liked the history, and Percy like the story, so it was perfect. Once they finished eating, they put their plates on the coffee table, and snuggled under the softest blanket they owned.
They stayed like they unil about one in the morning. Annabeth had fallen asleep on Percy's chest, and she was snoring softly (though if he confronted her about it, she would insist that she hadn't snored a day in her life). Percy slowly pulled out her ponytail so he wouldn't wake her, revelling in how peaceful she looked as her hair spread around her shoulders.
He tried to reach behind him to turn off the lamp, but as he moved his arm, Annabeth reached up to grab it and pull it back down to her.
"Annabeth, I have to turn off the lamp," he whispered, trying to pull his arm out from her grasp. She shook her head slightly. "Please. THen you can have my arm forever." She loosened her grip slightly, allowing him to quickly reach back and turn off the lamp. Then he quickly returned his arm to Annabeth, wrapping it around her back. Just as they started to fall asleep, Annabeth turned her head towards Percy.
"Perce?"
"Hmm?"
"Will you tell me a story?" she waked, wrapped in a blanket and shrouded in darkness.
"What kind of story to you want to hear?"
"Something good."
"Okay then," he paused, thinking. "Once, there was a boy who was lost. He was a mother who cared for him very deeply, but he knew that she suffered. He wanted to stop her suffering, but he didn't know how. This continued on for many years, but the Mother of the Lost Boy made sure he knew that he was loved by her. But then one day, the Lost Boy had to leave. He didn't want to because he knew that his mother would suffer more because he wasn't there to protect her. But his mother insisted. She said, 'Go, Lost Boy. Have many new adventures. I will be just fine here.' She he left. He went to a special place, where other people who were list tried to get found.
"Once he arrived, he had to heal, and when he woke up the Lost Boy saw a Lost Girl. He thought she was the most beautiful person he had ever seen. She told him, 'You drool when you sleep.' And he started to fall in love with her. Together they had many adventures, and they helped each other find themselves," he finally finished, resting his cheek on her head.
"It's true. You drool when you sleep. Don't drool on me," she jokingly scolded him.
"How else would you know the depths of my affection for you?"
She stifled a laugh, and muttered "Alright, Lost Boy. Time for bed." Then she snuggled impossibly closer to him, tugging the blanket around them even tighter.
They fell asleep, both still lost, but closer than ever to being found.
