Ten
07:57, 12 January 2019When I woke up I remembered that Cole was working at some summer camp so he'd be gone for a few days. I got out of bed and made myself some breakfast. I made a bowl of Cap'N Crunch and some orange juice. I sat down at the table and flicked through the morning paper while I ate.
"Morning," Dally said groggily, walking into the kitchen.
"Good morning. I'm going out," I said as I put my dishes in the sink.
"You know I trust you, right?" Dally asked.
"Yeah," I said. "Why?"
"I just wanna know where you're going. I do trust you. I just need to know that you're safe. I'm not trying to invade your privacy," Dally told me.
"I know that," I reassured him. "I'm going to Henry's house."
"Wanna do something later?" Asked Dallas. "Wanna go to the drive-in?"
"Sure," I said with a smile. I hugged Dallas goodbye and made my way to Henry's house.
I heard a car trailing me.
I'll give you one guess who it was.
I stopped.
"Hey, guys," I said.
"Where are you going all alone?" Patrick asked.
"Henry's house," I said.
"He's fucking whipped," Vic whispered.
"He's not fucking whipped," I argued.
"He is," Belch said. "He would never invite a girl to his house."
"Why not?" I asked. "I've been to his house loads of times."
"In case they see him with his Dad," Patrick told me. "He doesn't want anyone to see him scared when his Dad bashes him."
"I guess he feels like he can be vulnerable in front of you," Vic said.
I scoffed.
"That's not true," I said uncertainly.
"Do you wanna ride?" Belch offered. "We're going past there anyway."
"Uh, sure," I said.
Belch got out of his seat and put my bike in the back.
"I could have done that myself," I said.
Belch shrugged and Vic opened the back door for me.
"Thanks," I said.
When we got there, Vic opened the door again and Belch got my bike out of the back, then they drove off.
Butch was leaving the house. I headed for the front door.
"Hi Officer Bowers," I greeted.
"Hello, Primrose," Butch said. "How are you?"
"I'm okay. How are you?" I asked.
"Never better," Butch said seductively. "Tell your Daddy I said hello."
"I will," I said cautiously.
Butch then got into his car and drove off.
The front door was open and Henry was sitting on the couch watching TV.
"Hi, Henry," I said cheerfully.
"Prim!" He greeted enthusiastically, practically jumping off the couch. He realized what he just did and cleared his throat.
"Can you help me fix my bike?" He asked.
"For what?" I questioned.
"To ride," Henry said.
"I ride lots of things," I said.
"Calm down, slut," Henry joked.
I gave Henry an evil smile and made my way to the backyard and Henry followed.
"Since when do you ride a bike?" I asked, opening the garage door.
"Since I started hanging out with the Losers Club," Henry told me.
I turned around to face Henry and just smiled at him. He did the same back.
I saw a pretty decent bike in the corner and walked over to it. "Is this yours?" I asked.
"Yeah," Henry confirmed.
"Nice," I said.
"Thanks," Henry said.
I went to lift the bike but a giant huntsman spider crawled up from behind. I jumped back.
"You okay?" Henry asked, sounding concerned.
"Yeah, there was a spider," I said, shivering.
"Still scared of them?" Henry asked.
I've been deathly scared of spiders since I was a little kid. Wait, then why did blood fill my bathroom instead of spiders? Seeing that this thing obviously takes the shape of our greatest fear.
Then I realized that there was something I feared so much more than spiders.
Henry lifted the bike out of the garage and onto the grass. As he lifted it, I admired his arms. He had great biceps. I shook the thought out of my head and walked over to Henry and the bike.
"You'll just need to, um, refill the tires," I said.
"You don't sound one hundred percent sure," Henry said.
"I just don't know if I used the right word," I said rolling my eyes. "Go get the pump."
Henry came back with a pump for the tires. I took the cap off and started pumping air into the tires. "There you go," I said when I was done.
"Thanks, Prim," thanked Henry.
"You're welcome," I said. "Now I get something."
Henry froze. "U-um."
"I meant food or a drink or something!" I laughed, shaking my head.
"Right, sorry. But you're the one with the dirty mind!" Henry said.
"How?" I laughed, following Henry inside.
"I mean, you used to make dirty jokes all the time!" Henry laughed. "Not to mention the one you made about ten minutes ago."
"Well, I was just a kid then," I said.
"You were like fourteen," Henry corrected.
"Well, I've matured," I said, poshly.
Henry snickered. "Sure, Prim."
"Yeah, I was joking about that too," I said.
Henry shook his head and laughed.
"So," I said, opening the fridge.
Henry grabbed the orange juice and drank it straight from the carton.
"Oh, s-sorry I don't usually do that I-," Henry stuttered.
"Calm down," I said, grabbing the orange juice and drinking straight from the carton. "I do that all the time as well."
"Do you still do that thing with the straw?" Henry asked.
I knew instantly what he was talking about.
I grabbed a cup and a straw, I could still remember my way around his kitchen. I poured some orange juice and blew bubbles into the orange juice until it flowed out of the cup. Henry laughed.
"It's not that funny," I insisted.
"You are though," Henry said nicely. "And I mean that in a good way."
"Thanks, Henry," I said.
"So, do you wanna go meet the Losers on Jesse street?" I asked.
"Yeah," Henry said.
"Okay, go get your bike and meet me out front," I said.
Henry and I made our way over to Jesse street to meet the Losers. But as we turned the corner, there was a flyer up on a pole that made me stop my bike in its tracks.
"What's wrong?" Henry asked.
I pointed to the flyer.
"Oh my god," Henry said.
It was another missing kid, another kid taken away. But this wasn't just any missing kid.
It was my brother, Dallas.
