common denominator

"Is that all?" Carl says to you as he sits down. "I hope so." you throw the rag on the table. You decided to help Carl at work today. He sighs. "Fuck, i'm tired." you look at the clock. He has 30 minutes until his shift is over. "You have 30 minutes babe, and to be honest, I don't think anyone is coming in to order anything." you say. He nods and walks to the back. "Hey, Lori ." he says to his manager. "Look, my shift is over in a couple of minutes, I had finals today, i'm tired, can I go home early?" he asks. "Sure Carl, whatever it takes to keep you happy." Lori says while pinching his cheeks. You frown. She always is too touchy and acts weird around Carl. Like she has a crush.. he's a minor. She shouldn't be touchy touchy with him. You stay quiet, Carl seems happy at this job. He smiles slightly and walks over to you. "I have to clock out and i'll be ready." you nod and he takes his apron off. He walks to the back to clock out. "Bye Lori." he says. "Ready?" you say as you get up. He nods. You and Carl walk out of Captain Bob's Shrimp Shack and head to Carl's house.

"Hey" Carl says. "Yeah?" you reply. Carl hands you a folded piece of paper. You open it. It reads,

You immediately recognize the words. It's Justin Bieber's common denominator. You smile. "How'd you know I liked Justin Bieber?" you ask. "You used to say I would probably have a 2009 Justin Bieber haircut.. i'm pretty sure only someone who really likes Justin Bieber would remember the year.. and I also looked in a box that said "Dior's Justin Bieber Box" , you know, the one with purple hearts and a sticker with his face.. yeah it had all of his cd's, and books." he replies. "Why'd you pick Common Denominator? Why not One Less Lonely Girl?" you ask him. " It was circled and had hearts around it. I listened to it and it spoke to me." he smiles. You give him a hug and kiss. "That was really sweet Carl." you fold the paper back and place it in your purse. He smiles and lays back on his bed. You lay with him and wrap your arms around his body. He slowly drifts to sleep. You start humming "Common Denominator" and close your eyes.
