August

"Turn it off. I don't wanna hear no mo'," I shook my head.

Mel looked up at me and cut it off. "Don't even sweat dat broad. You ain't deserve dat lil bro. I'll handle her,"

"You can't do dat,"

"Why not?"

"'Just don't, man,"

He sighed. "Yo heart hella big bro. Dis broad on some scandalous shit. Done took thousands from you and you ain't tryna make no moves on her?"

"Nah," I shook my head. "I got somethin' fa her tomorrow,"

"Whatchu tryna do?"

"I'll tell you afta. She wanna play games, I can play too,"

"Am I gon' have ta bail you out?"

"I don't know yet," I shrugged, honestly. "I always told mama dat I'd neva put my hands on a female, but I will if she hit me tomorrow,"

"Yaaas. Smack dat hoe," Mel mumbled as he rolled a blunt.

I started laughin'. "You irritatin' bro,"

"I know you wanna hiddiiit," he cheesed, wavin' the pearl blunt in my face.

"Nah,"

"You scared? Mama ain't home, Mama's boy," he laughed.

"Shut up. I ain't scared," I laughed, takin' it from him. I put the blunt in between my lips and he lit it fa me.

I took in a long drag and blew it out through my nose. "She know I smoke anyway,"

Mel and I hadn't planned on smokin' three blunts like we ended up doin'. I was high as a kite and I was feelin' right.

I was takin' a drag and mama walked in.

"I thought told y'all dat I ain't want no smokin' in my house!"

"No, Ma," Mel began ta laugh.

I elbowed him. "Stop,"

"You said you ain't want no smokin' in yo living room, yo room, or anybody else room. You said dat da person or people who smokin' can only smoke in they room," he ended wit a chuckle.

"Shut up, Mel!" She yelled and I began ta laugh. She took the blunt from me and hit me in the chest.

"Ow! I ain't do nun," I rubbed my chest.

"Shut up," she said through gritted teeth. "Go clean da kitchen. Got all dem damn dishes in my sink like you done lost yo mind,"

I stood up and pulled up my pants.

"Yeah. Go clean dem dishes boy," Mel teased.

"Go cut da grass, since you wanna tease people," mama said.

"But Mama, we got a-"

"Go cut it,"

He sucked his teeth and stood up.

"Yeah. Go cut dat grass boy," I teased, stickin' out my tongue.

"Hush up," mama said before leavin' the room.

Mel and I followed behind her. I went ta the kitchen and he went ta cut the grass.

I looked in the sink and saw dat there was only a plate and two forks. I started lookin' around.

Mel came into the kitchen wit lawn bags. "Whatchu lookin' fa?"

"All those damn dishes she was talkin' 'bout,"

He started laughin'.

I washed the plates and two forks and cleaned the rest of the kitchen. I began ta get in a cleanin' mood, so I cleaned the living room too.

"Damn, ain't gon' leave Patrice nun ta clean when she get hea," Mel said.

"I don't even see why we have a house cleana. Mama still make us clean up everything," I said.

"You da one who wanted a maid,"

"Yeah, ta clean up. Like I said, the house barely be dirty 'cause mama make us clean up. It don't be nun fa her ta do when she get hea,"

"Patrice shouldn't have ta be breakin' her back and cleanin' up behind all of y'all," Mama said.

"What's da point of havin' her work fa us then if you still make us clean?" Mel asked.

"She needs the money," Mama said.

"I just don't like payin' her and she's not doin' anything fa it," I said.

"Chantelle didn't do nothin' fa all the m-"

I looked at Mel and he pretended ta zip his lips and throw away the key.

Mama gave us this weird look. "Money to Chantelle? Fa what, Aug?"

"It's nothin', Ma," I shook my head.

"We'll talk later. I'm goin' ta make dinner," she said before leavin' the living room.

I threw a pillow at Mel out of frustration and he started laughin'.

"It ain't funny," I said.

He kept on laughin', so I went back ta my room. I picked out an outfit fa school tomorrow and put my Air Force 1's in front of the bed.

I went ta take a shower and prepare myself fa school. When I had finished gettin' all of my stuff out, I laid down. I turned on some music and then my loud brotha came in my room like he was one of The Temptations.

"Uhhh-Maaaaziiin' graaace! How sweeeet-"

"Shut up, Trav!" I yelled.

He started laughin'. "Ain't no love fa ya big brotha bein' back in town?"

"I'm tired, man," I groaned.

"Bet yo ass would hop up if I said I gotchu a gift,"

"But I know yo broke ass didn't, sooo..." I mumbled, turning over.

"Who you callin' broke?"

"You," I sat up and looked at him. "Now you done came in hea and disrupted my peace, whea my gift at?"

"I shouldn't even give it to you," he handed me a picture.

"A picture, really?"

"Look at it, unappreciative ass,"

I hit my lamp and looked at it. "Congrats," I smiled, pattin' his back.

"Thank you," he said wit no emotion in his face.

"Trav?"

"What?" He messed wit his shirt.

"You'on sound happy,"

"I am,"

"You'on want my niece?"

He sighed in response.

"Oh man, come on. You knew what would happen if you ain't wear protection. Don't be like dat,"

"I just-" he shrugged. "I'm not ready ta slow down my fast life,"

"You sure dat you olda than me? I'm the baby, givin' you advice about yo baby,"

He sighed. "I'm just not ready,"

"You think ol' girl was ready?"

"She was talkin' about it. I said one day and it happens dat the day has came,"

"And you have ta deal wit it. You gotta raise da baby you helped make, ya heard me?"

"Yeah, Lil Mel," he said.

I chuckled. "Chill,"

"Y'all be spittin' da same knowledge,"

"Ya know dat,"

"But ya know what? Thanks fa the advice lil bro. I appreciate. Goodnight,"

"Goodnight," I said.

Once Travis left my room it took me a few minutes ta fall asleep. I was pretty tired and wit everything dat I found out today, it only made me even more tired.

My alarm woke me up at six. I got up and got myself ready fa school. While I got dressed all I could think about was how I was goin' ta confront Chantelle. I was gon' try ta be peaceful at first, then snap on her.

I saw Mel up eatin' cereal in the kitchen wit ChayChay.

"Wazzam?" we shook hands and I went ta make myself some oatmeal.

"Hi, Uncle Aug," Chay smiled.

"Hey baby," I kissed her forehead. "You excited fa school?"

"Barely," she mumbled.

I chuckled. "You betta get excited. School should be fun fa you right now,"

"Not when kids mess wit me,"

"Who messin' witchu?" Mel and I asked at the same time.

"This boy. He calls me big head and takes my crayons,"

"Maybe he likes you," I chuckled.

"Maybe he need ta be talked to," Mel said.

"Oh nah," I shook my head. "I rememba whatchu did last time. I'll go up there,"

"I ain't do nothin'," he laughed.

"You told that la girl dat her mama ain't love her and she was goin' back ta the orphanage if she kept on messin' wit Chay,"

He laughed harder. "She shouldn't have been messin' wit my baby," he kissed the side of Chay's face.

She smiled.

I shook my head and took my oatmeal out of the microwave. I let it cool down before eatin' it. My alarm ta leave the house went off right when I finished eatin'.

"Alright. I'm out," I put my dish in the sink. I hugged Chay and she kissed my cheek.

"Have a good day, Uncle Aug,"

"Thank ya," I smiled. "You too,"

"Don't forget ta turn up on ol' girl. have somebody record it," Mel said.

I shook my head before laughin'. "See you later bro,"

"See ya," he chuckled.

I left the house and went ta get into my Benz. I started it up and pulled out. I drove ta school and parked. I went up ta the school and went through security.

I went ta my locker and saw Esined talking to Viola and some boy. I stared at her fa a minute before openin' my locker. I glanced up at her again. I didn't know what it was about her. It's just something.

She's so mysterious and I want ta know everything about her fa some reason. I wanna be that person she lets in. I want her ta be comfortable wit me and trust me.

"August!" I heard Chantelle's annoyin' voice.

I debated on tellin' her about herself right now or waitin'. I only wanted ta wait so I could see Esined in our classes and be next ta her.

"Hi baby," she smiled.

"Hi," I said dryly.

I could tell that her mama ain't confront her yet and that was good. I didn't want her to yet.

"What's wrong?"

I licked my lips. "Nothin'. Come ta my lunch period today," I said.

"Why?"

"Because I wanna eat lunch withchu,"

"You never want to eat with me,"

"Dats not true," I said. "You scared ta get in trouble?"

"No,"

"Then eat lunch wit me,"

"Okay," she smiled and the bell rang. "I'll see you at lunch,"

"Aiight," I smiled and she walked away.

I couldn't wait until lunch. I was ready ta say everything. I was more than ready ta end this relationship. I was ready ta finally get back to being me without her bringin' me down.
