The Battlefield
|| Fyna Sveira||
The Camp is surrounded by enemies...
The sentence hung in the air, heavy and thick. The scream of the battle outside became the sound that pierced through the tension-filled air and the evidence of my sentence. I bit my lip anxiously, waiting for Percy's orders. For some unknown reason, Percy kept details of some information from us; only privy to him and Lord Chaos. Which is why at this very moment as time ticks by in seconds, I can see the gears turning in his head before he looked at Chaos.
"Would you mind if we continue this meeting later, Dad?" he asked.
Chaos stood up, fixing his outfit for any invisible wrinkles before nodding, patting the Prince's back reassuringly, "Of course," said Chaos. "Be careful, star. I'll be in my office when you're done."
He grinned at me before nodding, just as I curtsied to him and he disappeared in a flash of blinding light. I looked away just as I felt a hand on my shoulder and next thing I know I'm in the cabin's armory with Percy who is now in full armor, weapons and all.
"Percy?" The man didn't answer, he just took things from what seemed like every corner of the room, placing them on the table right next to where I stood confused. "Percy, what are you doing?"
He approached me and stared at me dead in the eye, "Now, Fi," he said, "I hate to ask you this but can I ask you to go out on the battlefield?"
"I suppose I can if that is what you wish me to. Just what are you planning?"
"Believe me, I don't wish for it, but I have to put you out there. And I'm not planning anything groundbreaking, it's just the attack happened faster than I anticipated and so I have to keep up." Percy informed me as he snapped his finger and my battle outfit appeared in my body. He began busying himself strapping in the weapons and all, even when I protested, claiming that I can do it by myself but he simply waved me off. I gave in to what he wanted and just stood still.
"So, what is the plan?"
"I don't have an exact information since like all my spies have been caught and my other information resource have stopped communicating, but there are new monsters created that I don't think the campers can handle. Originally, I was going to be the one taking them on but plans changed, obviously. All the weapon I'm giving you is doused with elements that I'm sure can kill these new monsters and probably others. I've managed to do the same with at least two weapons from the Army."
"So, basically, I'm your replacement?"
Percy's hands stopped working on strapping a knife holster in my upper thigh. I met his red tinted sea-green eyes as he looked up at me. I could feel my skin get hot and my heart beat faster as every second that he looked at me felt like an eternity, especially with those resting lingering hands on my body.
"No, Fyna," said Percy, "You're my salvation."
~
After Percy had me all setup, we found ourselves close to the battlefield. It was a mess, that's to say, but it's nothing I haven't seen before. Living your life close to the prince and the commander of the universe has the perks of showing you the worst of the worst.
"What are you going to do, Percy?"
"I'm going to rescue my sister from her dickbag of a husband, just like I promised," answered Percy, looking back at the mass of campers and monsters mixed together.
"Be careful, okay?"
He smirked at me then said: "Fi, you know I always am." I rolled my eyes which caused him to airily chuckle and planted a kiss on my forehead, spiking my heartbeat more than necessary. "You got this, right? Be careful out there."
With a grin, I pulled out a dagger and said: "You didn't call me your salvation for nothing."
Percy smiled softly, his form disappearing slowly as he traveled in a different way than a portal. "No," he said, "No, I didn't."
Then he was off.
A moment later, I'm stabbing a monster's neck that an immortal counselor, Hazel, was struggling to fight.
"Fyna?" Leo said in bewilderment as he arrived at the scene with his blazing sword. Literally. "What are you doing here?"
"His Highness asked me to be on the battlefield," I answered, cutting another's monster's head that had sneaking up behind me.
Leo looked like he had more things to ask but he just nodded and went back to submerge himself in a knee-deep dust of the monsters.
Hazel look disoriented for a second before breathing out: "Thank you."
I just nodded with a small smile and followed Leo's suit while trying to find the new monsters Percy was talking about.
Percy being Percy, liked to talk out loud about his plans and I'm usually there to listen and so he educated me a bit about the monsters he said we might encounter. I tried my best identifying them but it's not so easy when they're all mixed together like salt and sugar in a glass.
In the midst of fighting, I felt a chilly and dark presence beside me. Looking to my left, I saw the Second-in-Command, the right hand of Percy, Nico di Angelo, slashing and hacking monsters with ease, with darkness surrounding him. His true lineage only shows when he actually fights in a battle. It was a scary thing to put out if I am being honest. According to Percy, it's much scarier now that he'd been honing it and his power has been increased to a level way above his father's.
"Fyna," called Nico, an arrow like shadow hit the enemy in front of me and it burst into liquid. I turned to him with a nod, breathing out thanks. Nico nodded in the direction from where the enemies are coming from, "Some stupid portal somewhere at that section where the monsters are gathered is spewing out monsters after monsters. We need to destroy that portal."
"But?"
"The monsters guarding it are the monsters, I'm assuming Percy told you about. I've talked to the immortals to destroy the portal while we need to kill those sons of a gun monsters, capiche?"
I sighed, "I don't suppose that getting to those guards will be that easy, huh?"
Nico grinned, "Not at all."

|| Annabeth Chase||
There was no time to breathe or to rest as my body moved on autopilot, completely focused on getting rid of this monsters. It was at this moment that I now fully appreciate the Army's ruthless training because of the fact that I would've been exhausted to the bone and run on fumes by now but I'm not.
From the distance, I saw Nico and....Fyna? What's she doing here? Before I know it, I saw the both of them separate and started hacking away at the monsters in their path, with only one direction to go, and that's forward. It didn't take long for me to realize that they're heading towards the aforementioned monster-spewing portal that Nico told us and that they're planning on taking out the guards.
I may have been occupied with trying to keep myself alive and other campers but I cannot help but admire Fyna's fighting style. She fights with an experience of a soldier. That's when it became clear to me, more than ever, why Percy is so fond of her.
"Annabeth!" I heard my name called, snapping me out of my reverie. I looked at Jason who was looking at me expectantly. I nodded, shaking the painful throb of my heart and making my way towards Jason.
"We've got no time spacing out, Annabeth," scolded Jason.
I grimaced, "I know, there's no need to tell me."
"Good." Jason nodded. "We've got to get to the portal, Nico and Fyna are already making their way towards it."
We began our move, and as we did, there was one thought that flittered through my mind. Before I could voice it out, Frank, who is back in human form and fighting not far from me and Jason.
"Guys," he called. "This is all the monsters we've fought for over and over again for centuries. Just them. Where are the big guys? The Titans or the Giants?"
One of the Section Leader, Zoe, must've heard us because I heard her shouting out the answer. "See that big wall of disgusting looking creatures and where leaders are heading now? They're behind that. Tiring you out by spewing more monsters and when they know you're exhausted, they'll bring out the big guns." None was heard from her for a few moments. All that can be heard of is a cry of agony from the monsters she's gutting. However, just when I thought that's all she's going to say, I heard her call out once more: "So, I suggest that you follow the leaders who are willing to take down the guards protecting the portal for you, much faster before you completely deplete your energy."
Twirling my sword in my hand, I arched it real high, instantly splitting the monster in a vertical half, dust spewing all over me leaving a really hideous smell of sulfur. "I'd kill for a can of air freshener right at this moment," I mumbled under my breath before moving to another enemy.
Heading to the back line of the enemy forces was like swimming against the current of the wind, it feels like you're going nowhere. I would bet Zeus' bolts we would've been done for if it were not for the Army lightening up the load with surprising ease.
They were also right; the monsters we're currently fighting were stronger and faster. It wasn't like we couldn't keep up with the monsters, with the training now, we could but before they came, I don't think we would've stood a chance and the Gods are selfish lazy sorry sons of a gun to actually help us fight.
Inch by inch, we plowed through the monsters until I could see Nico, Harmony, Sylas, and Fyna fighting at what seems like the speed of light. Each of them fighting three disgusting monsters. The other counselors finally reached me, one by one. We saw the portal, glowing quite brightly and monsters flowing out through it.
I met eyes with Fyna, who nodded at me, before kicking the monster that is at ten feet taller than her and it went flying back, knocking with the other monster that Harmony was fighting. I saw both of them grab their sword from their sheath and began slashing away to no end.
Meanwhile, while they fight, we all separate into groups of three, carefully weaving through the trees and trying to get around the fight with the monster guards and the monsters that are endlessly coming out.
When we finally reached it, it seems like all of us were frozen in shock. It was the size of a giant door and was releasing a really unpleasant air, unlike the portal I've seen the Army have. This one was much, much darker.
May the Gods bless our souls.
As we were told, there were 5-minute intervals that the portal takes every 15 minutes and that's when we would take the chance. As the monsters kept coming out, I took note of the general direction they're taking. Thank the Gods they're stupid enough to just take one direction, which makes it easier for us. Taking a deep breath, I told my friends, "Those who are in-charge of the barrier, go set up now except where the monsters are headed. Those in charge of the bombs, take it out and set it up and when the fifteen minute is done, we all run in, place the bomb, activate it and then run like hell. Got it?"
They all nodded, and so, with seven minutes remaining from the 15 minute, those who are in charge of the barrier set up to work. The clock ticked down and the monsters coming out lessen before it went quiet. I whistled as a signal and we all run in from different directions, surrounding the portal, placed the bomb a couple feet away and pressed the only button that was there before running like hell. The people in charge of the barriers, opening up a piece for us to get out since you can only get in but not out of it.
Piper counted from five and when it reached to one, we each pushed our buttons and simultaneously, a deafening boom resonated that sent rippled down the barrier and to the ground. From my far right, I saw the people who were fighting the monster guards pushed them inside the barrier. Everyone stopped, frozen as we all watch the portal explode, monsters and demigods alike; it was like a life size plasma ball and then it was gone.
~
Just when you thought you're almost done, there's always, always something. The portal disappeared and the campers are steadily depleting the leftover monsters when we heard an angry scream coming from behind the wall of more disgusting creatures. Kronos came out, glaring at us with so much venom,
"You stupid demigods," he exclaimed, marching towards us only to be stopped when four deadly fighters stepped in front of us.
"Take one more step, you ugly Titan, and you'll find your head eight feet away from your body," Sylas threatened.
Kronos ignored them, "You stupid, pathetic demigods," he repeated with a new word added to that addressing, "Why do you always have to ruin our plans? Once I get my hands on all of you, I will all skewer you and roast you in the fire of Tartarus."
Kronos, at that moment, called out his scythe and the moment he poised to make an attack, Luke came on the scene out of nowhere, it seems, and held him at sword point. "Now, Kronos," Luke grinned, "before you go and kill people, why not say hi to an old friend?"
Kronos smirked smugly, "Luke, I remember you. Shouldn't you be dead? Put that sword down, you foolish child, you think you can go against me?"
"I should be," said Luke, "But see here's the thing, you stupid titan, don't underestimate me. I'm better now than I was and it's time I get my revenge for you fooling me."
There were no other words that came out of Kronos' mouth, his only reply was a swing of his scythe. That movement was enough to shake us out and like a movie, it was as if someone pressed a play button and the fight began once again. Kronos and Luke continued to battle it out and I jumped back on the battlefield, helping anyone that seemed to be struggling.
However, that didn't last long as the tables turned and I was face to face with another Titan, Hyperion. Swallowing the fear that threatened to paralyze me, I fought with all I could but in the end, he still overpowered me. As he had me to the ground and me struggling to escape and not die, he suddenly burst into a golden ichor, drenching me with it too. Ugh.
I looked up to see Bianca standing there in all her glory with a hand held out to me. I took it and managed a thank you to her before she smiled, gave me a knife then moved on to another monster.
Looking around, I could see that all the campers' energy is running out and they're just running on fumes. There's no way we could fight the Giants in this condition and I can see them looming closer and closer.
"Mom, please," I said, looking up at the sky, hoping she'd answer me. "The Titans are here and the Giants are coming, we need help."
Nothing.
I got nothing.
But then, the ground rumbled, making everyone stop, and appearing in the middle of the battlefield was not the help I expected.
It was Gaea, looking worse for the wear with Percy beside her. She turned to Percy with a questioning look, who in turn nodded, except, when she moved a few steps away from him, she instantly crumbled down and fell over in Percy's arms.
Fyna was instantly on Percy's side, ready for service. I heard him order her to get out of the field and bring Gaea to the infirmary. She seemed reluctant and protested weakly but still gave in, in the end.
Nico popped up beside Percy. "Those pesky giants are here but the Gods aren't. What should we do?"
Percy rolled his eyes, "Of course, they aren't here, right when their kids need them."
"Do you want me to drag them here?"
The commander only shook his head, pulling out two really intense looking sword, spin them in his arms as if they were nothing before cracking his neck with a smirk, "I've defeated at least 200 of those annoying new monsters on my way to save Gaea. I've been warmed up." He rolled his shoulders this time. "If you haven't forgotten, Nico, your powers have increased above the Gods level, in other words, you're technically a God. All you need is the normal demigod to join in the fight and we're good. So, what do you say to screwing what the Fate says about needing the Gods and we kill those Giants ourselves and finish this battle finally?"
~
"The art of war teaches us not to rely on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not the chance of his not attacking, but rather the fact that we have made our position unassailable." --Sun Tzu
So, I have to admit, I have no clue how to write a battlefield scene. I tried, it just didn't work. Hence, the reason why this chapter is going to the 'not-very-proud' chapter. Not that I have a lot of chapters I wrote that I'm ultimately proud of.
I'm also thinking of whether if I should split this into two books or not? What do you guys think? I'm more leaning towards a second book but I honestly don't know (tbh, it's such a pain creating a cover, title and a summary, which I still need to fix cuz its crap).
What do you guys think? Thoughts? Please tell me.
Ugh, it's August. A few more weeks before school starts and I've done absolutely nothing except give in to my crippling depression, whooo, and not do anything. Although, it's Percy's birthday soon. I'm planning an extra normal chapter when it comes to that. My birthday is coming soon too, but eh, I've never really cared for mine.
I do hope you're enjoying your summer so far.
Anyway, I hope you guys like this. I really do. Given I have no experience at writing battle scene, I hope this was acceptable.
Leave a comment and vote and tell me what you think.
Thank you guys for reading, I really appreciate it.
