chapter 397
18:39, 28 March 2026Jay Jay POV
Preparation leave was supposed to be peaceful.
That was the expectation.
Study at your own pace. Revise calmly. Maybe even get some sleep.
But clearly—
No one had informed Kuya Angelo about that.
Because at exactly 9:32 AM, I was standing outside his condo, staring at the door like it had personally ruined my life.
A full study session.
For Section E.
With Sir Alvin.
During preparation leave.
I wanted to sleep
Huhuhu!
I sighed, dragging my bag higher on my shoulder.
“This is actually illegal.” I muttered. And then I pushed the door open.
Chaos.
Immediate.
“LOOK WHO DECIDED TO SHOW UP.”Felix. Announced like a madman
Making my brows furrow.Of course. They can't that slid off.
I stopped mid-step.“…Don’t.” I warned him.
Too late.
Ci-N turned around with the most annoying grin.“Future lawyer has arrived.”
Drew leaned back in his chair.“Careful everyone, behave.”
“Why?” Eman said lazily from the couch.
“She might sue us.”The room burst into laughter.
That's it.
I dropped my bag near the table.“I’m leaving.” I said moving towards the door again.
“No you’re not,” Felix said, grabbing my arm.
“Yes I am.” I said pulling my arm back.
“No you’re not.” Felix repeated him self which was annoying me to hell.
“Felix.”I warned again.
“Yes, Future Attorney Jay?” ugh this viper. He is nearing his doom.
“I will file a case against you.”
“See?” Ci-N clapped.“She’s already practicing.”
I threw a pen at him.“Shut up.”
He immediately held his head where the pen had hit him.
The condo was packed.
Books.
Notes.
Snacks already opened.
Section E energy everywhere.
And in the center of it—
Kuya Angelo.
Standing like discipline had taken human form.
“You’re late.” He complained “I’m three minutes late.” I said that because I took long in the shower.
“That’s still late.” He said furrowing his brows.
“You need to relax.” I said smiling.
“You need to focus.” He flicked my forehead.
That made me grimace.“Wow.” I said sarcastically.
Sir Alvin stood beside him calmly.“Sit down, Jay.”
I sighed dramatically and sat.“This is torture.”
“This is preparation,” Angelo corrected.
“This is suffering.”I said complaining.
Felix leaned toward Drew.“She’s arguing again.”
“I HEARD THAT.” I shouted making them snicker
The session started.Somehow.
For the first ten minutes—
Everyone tried.
Keyword: tried.
Felix stared at his book like it betrayed him.
Drew kept whispering to Rory.
Ci-N was writing… something suspicious.
Eman had a pen in his hand but wasn’t using it.
I tried focusing.Actually tried.
But then—“Sir,” Felix raised his hand.Sir Alvin looked up.
“Yes?” he said raising his brows.
“I don’t understand this.” Felix said pointing at an easy equation.
Yea I knew some stuff in maths not a biggy!
“You didn’t read the question.” sir Alvin said.
Obviously.
Felix blinked.“…Oh.”
The room exploded into laughter.
Time passed.
Notes.
Questions.
More chaos.
And somehow—
It felt normal.
Even… fun.
At one point, Yuri leaned slightly toward me.“You’re writing that wrong.”
I frowned.
“I am?”
He took my pen briefly and corrected it.
“Like this.”
I watched.“…Thanks.”
He nodded.“No problem.”
No tension.
No anger.
Just simple.
And for some reason—
That felt… less heavy.
Across the room—
Keifer was watching.
Leaning back.
Not studying.
Just observing.
His eyes met mine.
That same quiet smirk.
I looked away instantly. My ears were already red.
No. Jay Jay.
Not dealing with that.
“BREAK TIME,” Felix suddenly declared.
“You are already on break,” Angelo said.
“Then extended break.” He said.“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”Ci-N grabbed chips anyway.
Drew opened juice.
Eman stretched.“This is more productive.”
“It is not,” kuya Angelo said sharply.“CAN YOU ALL BE SERIOUS FOR FIVE MINUTES?”
“No,” Eman replied honestly.I laughed.
“Same.”Then—
Something changed.At first...
I thought it was nothing.Just a faint smell.
I frowned slightly.“…Do you guys smell something?”
“Food?” Mayo said.
“No…”Idiot it wasn't food it was something.. It was something sharper.Like Burning.
Unfamiliar.I looked around.The air felt… different.Heavier.
“Wait,” Denzel said slowly.Everyone turned.
A thin line of smoke curled from the hallway.
For a second—
No one reacted.
Then—
“Smoke?” David said.
My stomach dropped.“…That’s not normal.”
Kuya Angelo’s head snapped toward the hallway. His expression changed instantly.
Serious.
Sharp.
Controlled.
“Everyone stand up.” He said his voice rasing with panic.
No jokes.
No chaos.
“Now.” He screamed again.
Chairs scraped.
People stood.
“What’s happening?” Felix asked. Cleary panicked.
“Fire,” kuya Angelo said finally panicking. The word hit hard.
Real.
Immediate.
“Move to the exit.” He commanded
“Stay together.” sir Alvin said.
“Do not run.”
Sir Alvin grabbed the extinguisher.“Follow instructions.”
Panic started rising.Voices overlapped.
Feet rushed.
Chairs fell.
Smoke thickened.
The heat slowly crept in.
I moved with everyone.
Heart racing.
I was already trying to stay calm.Trying to breathe. The air was thick.
We reached the door.People started going out.One by one.
And just as I stepped forward—Something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
And then....A sudden realization.
My heart dropped.
Keifer.
He wasn't here.
I turned.
Panic rising in my voice.“Where’s Keifer?” I said.
No answer.
Felix looked around.“He was here—”
Drew frowned.“Maybe he—”
Washroom.Yea he went while Kuya and Eman were arguing.
My chest tightened.
He was still inside.
The smoke was getting worse.
Fast.
I looked at the exit.
Then back at the hallway.
I had to make a choice.
Ugh fuck it I have to save him I promised my self that.
My heart pounded.Loud.
Heavy.
And before I could think—I turned back.
No I can't leave him He has saved me now it was my turn..
“JAY!” someone shouted.
But I was already running. Inside..
Back into the fire.
My hear was pounding..
The smoke hit harder this time.Like walking straight into something alive.
Hot.
Thick.
Unforgiving.I covered my mouth with my sleeve, coughing as I forced myself forward.
“Keifer!”My voice barely carried.
The hallway looked different now.
Blurred.Hazy.
The smoke curled along the ceiling, dropping lower with every second.
My chest tightened.
Breathing felt wrong.
Too heavy.
Too sharp.
But I didn’t stop.“KEIFER!” I shouted on top of my lungs.
Nothing.
Panic clawed its way up my throat.
He had to be here.
He was here.
I stumbled forward, gripping the wall for balance.
My eyes watered.
My lungs burned.
My head qas spinning.
The washroom door came into view.
Closed. My heart slammed against my ribs.
I rushed toward it and slammed my hand against the door.
“KEIFER!” I shouted again banging my fists on the door!
No response.
I hit it again.Harder.
“OPEN THE DOOR!”
My palm stung.
The heat was getting worse.
The air thinner.
I might faint!
“KEIFER!” I shouted again and then..
For a split second—Silence.
Then—A loud bang.
The door jerked open.
And there he was.
My lifeline 🧡
Keifer.
Hair slightly damp.
Eyes sharp despite the smoke.“What are you doing?!” he
snapped.
I grabbed his arm instantly.“GET OUT!”
“You shouldn’t be here—” He continued but I cut him off.
“JUST COME!”Something in my voice made him stop arguing.
He didn’t waste another second.
He pulled me with him—Fast.
Urgent.
We stepped back into the hallway—
And the smoke hit like a wall.My vision blurred.
My chest tightened painfully. Each breath felt like it scraped my lungs.
“Jay—” He called me panic in his voice.
“I’m fine,” I forced out.
I wasn’t. My legs felt weak. My head hurts.
My eyes--
Heavy.
The exit suddenly felt too far.Too far.
“Keep moving,” Keifer said. His grip on my wrist tightened.Grounding.
Pulling.
But my body—
Was slowing down.
The heat wrapped around us.The air thickened.
My head spun.
I coughed hard—
My foot twisted slightly as I stepped wrong.
A sharp pain shot up my leg.
I gasped.
“Keifer…”My voice came out weak.Distant.
Everything felt distant.
The hallway blurred.
The sound was faded. My lungs were burning.
My chest hurt.
And then—
My eyes shut down.Making everything dark.
-------------------------Keifer POV
“Jay!”
She collapsed.
Right in front of me.
My heart dropped so fast it felt like it stopped.
No.No no no. NO!
This can't happen.. not her please!
Not here.
Not like this.
I caught her before she hit the ground.
Her body went completely limp.
Too still.
Too quite like she was even-
No keif don't go there.
“Jay—” I tried calling her.
No response.
My chest tightened. please stay with me life please!
The smoke was everywhere now.
Thick.
Burning.
My own breathing started turning uneven.
But none of that mattered.
Not when she wasn’t responding.
“Idiot…” I muttered, voice rough.
You will pay when you wake up!
I will kiss you so senselessly you will feel it in your fucking soul!
But right now we have to get out of here!
“ damn it Why would you come back?” I almost screamed.
I adjusted my grip.
One arm under her knees.
The other around her back.
And lifted her.
She didn’t even react.Didn’t even stir.
Something twisted painfully in my chest.
Please life wake up!
I forced myself to move.
One step.
Then another.
The hallway felt longer than before.
The heat was getting hard to bear.
My lungs were on fire.
My own head started spinning. But I kept going.Because stopping—
Wasn’t an option. When jay's life depended on me.
Not when she came back for me.
The exit came into view.Barely visible.
Voices echoed from outside.
“KEIFER!”
“JAY!”
“OVER HERE!”
I pushed forward.
My grip tightened around her.“Stay with me, love please” I muttered.
Even though she couldn’t hear me.
Even though she wasn’t awake.
The doorway was right there.
Just a few more steps.
My vision blurred again.
But I didn’t stop.
I couldn’t.
And then— I pushed outWe made it out.
Fresh air hit us hard.
Cold.
Sharp.
I staggered slightly.
Hands reached for us.
Voices overlapped.
“What happened?!”
“She’s not waking up!”
“CALL THE AMBULANCE!”
I dropped to my knees carefully.
Still holding her.“Jay.”No response.
Her face looked pale.
Too pale.“Jay.”Nothing.
My hands started trembling.I shook her lightly.
“Jay, wake up please.”Still nothing.
Something cracked inside my chest.“Jay—” my tears spilled on their own as everyone stared at me.
My voice broke.I didn’t care.
Didn’t try to hide it.“Wake up please love life.”
Felix’s voice came from somewhere behind.
“…Is she okay?”
NO SHE ISNT! CANT YOU SEE!
No one answered.
Because no one knew.
“Ambulance is coming!”
someone shouted.Probably sir Alvin.
I didn’t move.
Didn’t let go.
My hands were still shaking.
My breathing was uneven.
My vision slightly unfocused.
But my focus—Was her.
Only her.
“Don’t do this,” I whispered.“Not now.”"Not ever Jay please just the fuck wake up"
Not like this. You can't go please.
Not because of me.
The ambulance arrived.
Fast.
Too fast.
I couldn’t tell anymore.
They took her from my arms.
NO NOT MY JAY DONT TAKE HER FROM ME!
Placed her on the stretcher.
“Pulse weak.”
“Breathing shallow.”
“We need oxygen.”
Everything blurred.
“Sir, you need to step back—”
“I’m coming,” I said.I CANT LOOSE HER SHE IS MY EVERYTHING!
My voice left no room for argument.
They hesitated—
Then nodded.
“Get in.”
Inside the ambulance—
It was chaos.
Controlled chaos.
They worked around her quickly.
to save my life my jay jay.
An Oxygen mask was placed on her.
Monitors were making noise.
Instructions were given out.
I sat beside her.
Watching her.
Not blinking.
Not moving.My chest tightened again.
My breathing started getting worse.
Like the smoke was still there.Still inside me.
“Sir—”
A nurse leaned toward me.
“You inhaled smoke too.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re not. Sir.”
She placed an oxygen mask in my hand.
“Put this on.”
I didn’t argue.
Didn’t have the energy to
.I pulled it over my face.
Breathing in—
Sharp.
Cold.
Real.
But my eyes never left her.
Hospital was a blur of tests checking my vitals.
But..
Everything moved too fast. They rushed her in immediately.
“ICU.”
The word hit hard.Too hard.
NO NO NO!
“She’s not breathing properly.”
“We need to stabilize her.”
The doors closed.
I collapsed on to the benches.
And just like that—She was gone from sight.
I sat theirFrozen.
Mask still on.
Hands still trembling.
My chest rising unevenly.
The world felt distant.
Muted.
Jay jay don't go please stay.
Footsteps.
Fast.
Urgent.
Aries.My eyes imideatly turned cold.
What the hell is he doing here?
He walked in like a storm.
“Where is she?!”
“In ICU,” someone said.
I noticed and saw all ym classmates were here even Angelo and air Alvin
His expression changed instantly.
Sharp.
Dangerous.
Behind him—
Tita Gema.
Her face pal
e.Eyes filled with fear.“What happened?” she asked.
No one answered properly.Because no one could.
Felix looked at me and asked if I was okay?
I nodded
Then I noticed most of them staring at...
Me?
I raised a brow.
Ci-n approached first.
"Dad told me you are stable because you were in the bathroom. Which was locked completely and you sprinkled water in your hair."
"Where as jay she moved in again and back with you so she comparatively inhaled a lot more smoke"
He explained.
And my eyes stung.
I fel like I will break..
But then more footsteps..
Percy arrived not long after.
His presence was different.
Calm.
But heavy.
“What the fuck happened to my sistah?”
Silence.
Then—“Fire,” Felix said.
Percy’s jaw tightened.
“How?”
No answer.
But the tension—
Said everything.
Time passed.
1 hour.
2 hours.
3 hours.
They were slow.
Painfully slow.
Then—The doctor walked out
.Dr. Peralta.
Everyone stood.
“How is she?” Aries asked immediately.
I just looked at him and looked away.
The doctor exhaled.
“It was difficult. She was in danger if you have spent more than 15 minutes wating...”
My chest tightened.FUCK NOT JAY JAY!
“She inhaled a significant amount of smoke.”
Every word felt heavy.
PLEASE JAY JAY NO!
“But—”
That one word—
My eyes stung with tears loads of them.
Everything seemed paused.
“She’s out of danger now.”
Relief hit.
Hard.
SuddenlyI exhaled loudly and took of my mask slumping in the chair.
Everyone looked at me and Percy grabbed my shoulder helping me up again.
"Calm down keifer calm down" he said.
I can't when my life is fighting inside!
“She’s stable.”
My knees almost gave out again.
I didn’t even realize how tense I had been until that moment.
“Can I see her?” I asked.
The doctor nodded.
“One person.”
I didn’t wait.
Jay’s Room
She looked smaller.
Lying there.
Still.
Quiet.
But breathing.
I stepped closer.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Like if I moved too fast—
Something would break.
I reached for her hand.
Held it.Warm.Real.
And sat on the nearby chair.
She was feeling warm again..
I bent slightly—Pressing her hand against my forehead.
Trying to steady myself.
But it didn’t work.
Because the moment I closed my eyes—
Everything came back.
The smoke.Her collapsing.The silence.
My chest tightened.
And before I could stop it—Tears slipped.
I clenched my jaw.
Tried to hold it in.Tried to stay composed. But I couldn’t.
I started crying. First softly then it turned a little loud.
“…Idiot,” I whispered.My voice broke.
“You weren’t supposed to come back inside.”
A pause.
My grip tightened slightly.“…You scared me.”
The door opened quietly.
I didn’t let go.
Didn’t move.
But I knew—
They were here.
Aries.
Yuri.
Percy.
Angelo.
The room filled silently.
Heavy.
I felt a hand on my shoulder I looked up
Yuri...
"She okay don't cry keif" he whispered softly..
I wiped my and looked at them.
They all were staring at me
I just stayed silent.Controlled.
Different.
No chaos.
No noise.
Just tense.Percy spoke first.Low.
“Not an accident he muttred.”
Angelo nodded.
“It was Ram.”
That fucker!
Ever since jay beat him up to death he has been after us.
A pause.
“And Jason.”
Double fucker.
Well I did burn his bike..
Silence.
Yuri’s gaze darkened.
“They’ve been watching.”
Yes jay was still getting threats but we knew all of us
Section E
Her family
We didn't tell her.
Aries’s jaw tightened."How did they knew you all will go there?"
“dont know that” Angelo replied."But I know today was the perfect chance.”
My hands clenched.
Tight.
Painfully tight.
Something burned inside my chest again.
And no.. it was..Not smoke.
Not fear.
Something worse.
Anger.
Revenge.
Cold.
Sharp.
Dangerous.
“They wanted to hurt us,” Percy said.
“No,” Yuri corrected quietly.“They wanted to hurt her.”
"Ever since jay beat the shit out of ram they have been on us" I completed yuri's sentence
The room went still.
I didn’t look up.
Didn’t need to.
Because I already knew.
I tightened my grip on her hand slightly.
Careful.
Gentle.
But firm.
My voice came out low.Controlled.But deadly clear.
“…They’re going to pay.”Silence.
"I will kill them by my bare hands. They dared to lay a hand on jay jay I will make their trip to hell so painful they will ask for mercy...They forgot I am a watson..And I am ruthless by any means"
No one argued.
No one disagreed.Because they all knew—
This wasn’t over.
Not even close.
War had just started!
