Me=no jealous!

I woke up feeling like my brain was wrapped in fog.

For a moment I just stared at the pale fabric of the tent above me, trying to remember where I was.

The air smelled like pine and cold morning and faint campfire smoke from last night.

Then I turned my head.

Keifer was right there.

Close enough that I could see the tiny crease between his eyebrows when he slept.

His hair was a mess, falling over his forehead, one arm folded under his head like he'd just collapsed there and never bothered to move again.

A small smile slipped onto my face before I could stop it.Of course he'd ended up next to me.

Typical.

For a few seconds I let myself enjoy it-the quiet, the soft morning light sneaking through the tent, the simple fact that he was here.

Then the memories came back.Yuri's voice.

The argument.

The way his eyes hardened when I said I'd protect Keifer even from him.

My chest tightened.The words replayed in my head like a bad echo.

"Try it then."I swallowed.

For a moment it hurt more than I expected.

Yuri had been my friend long before all of this. Before the tension, before the secrets, before that stupid list.

But things had changed.I stared at Keifer again, his breathing slow and peaceful, completely unaware of the storm sitting just outside his life.

And something inside me settled.

If protecting him meant standing against Yuri...Then that was the choice I'd make.

Even if it cost me everything.

Even if it meant getting hurt.

Even if it meant-

Okay. Dramatic brain. Stop.

I exhaled slowly and blinked the thought away.

Keifer shifted suddenly and opened one eye.

"...You're staring."

I jumped. "I was not."

"You were."

"No."He squinted at me suspiciously.

"That's creepy, Jay."

"You sleep like a confused cat."

"That's not even an insult."

"It is in my heart."

He huffed a quiet laugh and stretched, then glanced at me again. "You okay?"

"Yeah."

The word came out a little too fast.

He studied me for a second like he wanted to ask more..

Then Felix's voice detonated outside the tent.

"WAKE UP LOSERS CAMP ASSEMBLY IN TEN MINUTES."

I groaned and dropped my head back. "I hate you."

Keifer grinned. "You love me."

"I tolerate you."

We climbed out of the tent into chaos.

Felix was brushing his teeth aggressively like the toothbrush owed him money.

Rory had his phone out already filming everyone like a documentary.

"And here we see Section E in their natural habitat," Rory narrated dramatically.

"Disorganized, loud, and barely functional."

Ci-N walked past perfectly dressed like he was attending a fashion show instead of camping.

I threw a bottle cap at Rory's head.

"Aaraaiiii" rory exclaimed looking for the culprit!

After breakfast we headed toward the main clearing where the camp assembly was being held.

Students from other sections were already gathering around, teachers organizing things while everyone talked over each other.

I was half-listening to Felix complain about camp food when someone suddenly stepped in front of Keifer.

A girl.

From Section B.

She looked confident in the way people do when they already know they're attractive.

"Hi," she said brightly, looking straight at him.

"You're Keifer, right?"

Keifer blinked. "Yeah...?"

"I've seen you around school," she continued with a small smile. "You're kind of popular."

Felix leaned toward me and whispered loudly, "Incoming."

I elbowed him without looking away.

The girl tilted her head slightly. "You're cute."

Oh.Oh wow.

My stomach twisted before I could stop it.

Keifer scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.

"Uh... thanks."

"Are you single?"

she asked.

My brain went very still.I told myself not to react.Don't look.Don't care.Don't-Keifer glanced sideways at me.Then back at her.

"Not really," he said.The girl followed his gaze and noticed me standing there.Her expression shifted for half a second before she laughed lightly. "Ah. Got it."

Then she walked away.Felix grabbed my shoulders instantly.

"YOU WERE JEALOUS."

"I WAS NOT."

"You looked ready to duel her."

"I HAVE EMOTIONS."

Keifer leaned closer to me, voice low.

"You were jealous."

I crossed my arms. "You're assuming you're worth being jealous over."

His smile grew slow and annoying."So you were jealous."

"I hate you.""You love me."

I shoved him away but my face was definitely warmer than normal.

The assembly started a few minutes later with teachers explaining the final activities of camp.

"...and before lunch we'll have the last set of team games," one teacher announced.

Students groaned."However," another teacher added, "a few additional volunteers will be joining the games today."

That's when Aries stepped forward.He looked straight at me with the most suspicious smile imaginable.

"Section E is joining."I narrowed my eyes immediately.

Oh for fuck's sakeThis horoscope!

"You planned this," I muttered.

"Of course I did."the annoying horoscope smirked!

The games started shortly after and turned the entire clearing into chaos.

Running races.Obstacle courses.

Ridiculous challenges that Felix took way too seriously.

At one point Rory tripped over a rope and dragged three people down with him.

I was laughing so hard I barely noticed Yuri standing near the sidelines watching everything quietly.

But every once in a while...His eyes landed on me.And something heavy flickered there before he looked away again.

The final announcement came not long after the last game ended.

"Alright everyone," a teacher called out, clapping to get our attention. "That concludes the camp activities."

Groans and cheers mixed together.

"And we'll begin heading back to school shortly. Please start packing your things."

Camp was over.

And somehow the air around us felt different now.

Like something important had ended...

But something bigger was about to begin.

And it will be seriously heavy for me!
