Lover Sacrificed - Chapter 14
22:12, 21 May 2014A week later Darius was completely healed and recovered. He was sitting in his father’s office with both his parents, who were in the middle of a massive argument.
- Wrath, so help me god, you have to stop this madness! They have bonded! She saved his life! She is his rahlman... he is a whalker because of her! They belong together!
- I can’t stop this Beth. The Glymera will kill me if I do!
- They love each other! You cannot allow this!
- What am I supposed to do?
- You are the goddamned King, Wrath. Figure something out!
His father snorted.
- I mean it Wrath. If my son ends up mated to that suck up Glymera girl, instead of our Nalla, the female he has bonded with, you’re gonna have to find yourself another place to sleep because you sure as hell won’t be getting in my bed!
Darius chuckled and he could feel his father’s stare even though the sunglasses.
- Beth, leelan, listen to me. If I cancel this now, we will be in direct war with the Glymera. We have enough to worry about as it is, with the lessers.
Darius spoke up before his mom could.
- He’s right mahmen. I have to do this. For the race.
- But what about…
His heart ached at the thought of Nalla but he quickly cast her out of his mind.
- She knows. And she understands.
- Damn son, she’s a real female of worth.
- She is. She realizes I have obligations and she encourages me to meet them. She doesn’t want the glymera to start a war with you dad. She knows it’s what’s needed. For the race. For the brotherhood. No matter how much we have to sacrifice, or how much it hurts us.
- Well hell boy, when the fuck did you grow up to be so mature?
His smile was sad.
- When I fell in love with a female I couldn’t have.
*-*-*
Wrath closed his eyes at the heartache in his son’s voice.
How had things come this far?
How had he not known?
Why hadn’t he listened to John?
Was he such a horrible father that his son hadn’t been able to trust him with his feelings?
Except, he had, hadn’t he?
And Wrath had shrugged it off to hormones. He was a fuck up as a father.
He pinched the bridge of his nose as he sighed deeply.
Darius walked up to him and grabbed his hand to kiss his ring.
- It’s ok dad, really. Don’t beat yourself up over it. You did what you had to do, and I will do the same. We owe it to the brotherhood.
He nodded tiredly.
- Leelan, can you call the originals in?
He referred to all the brothers that were with him when he ascended the throne, as originals.
Beth kissed him as she shook her head.
- I don’t like this… Come on Darius. Let’s go eat.
She closed the door leaving him alone with the brothers.
Rhage, Zsadist, Butch, Vishous, Phury and Tohrment.
He could feel their power as they all entered the room. But most of all, he could feel Z’s desperation.
- Zsadist, my brother. I… I have no words.
- It’s ok Wrath. I ah… spoke to my girl and she explained some things that I… I just didn’t have a fucking clue about. But she accepts and understands what has to happen. Even if I don’t.
Wrath shook his head.
- Like I told my D, she truly is a female of worth. If I had only known before…
- Ahhh man Wrath. There must be something you can do? Can’t we just ship them off somewhere? All those Glymera rats are assholes anyway.
- Hollywood, I have been thinking about this since last week. I am open to suggestions.
Rhage snorted.
- Have you even met the nagging BWF, that is going to be your daughter in law?
He shuddered.
- BWF?
- Bitch with fangs. She’s a nasty one… Poor D.
They all started commenting at the same time, until Vishous voice cut in.
- My Lord.
- Yes V.
He let out another tired breath as he saw V’s pupil turn completely black.
- Something that seems pure on the outside may not necessarily be pure on the inside.
- What the hell is that supposed to mean?
V’s pupil went back to his normal diamond color.
- It means I have a very bad feeling about this, true?
