Chapter 7

 Nick walked out of Chloe's hospital room, not being able to stay in there and watch Chloe shake and have no control over her own body. A few minutes later a few doctors pushed Christi out of the room and closed the door. Christi sighed defeated, and walked over to a wall, sliding down, and putting her head in her hands.

Nick sat down beside her. "How is she doing?" He asked.

Christi looked up, her face red and tears streaming down her face. 

"I don't know." She cried, putting her face back in her hands. "All I know is that when they pushed me out of the room, they were yelling that they couldn't find a pulse, and that her heartbeat was getting slower." Christi cried, scared that her little girl might not live to see another day.

Thirty minutes later, the doctors opened the door. Christi jumped up and ran over to them. "Is she okay?" She asked the doctors. Nick got up and walked over, standing next to Christi to see what the doctors had to say about Chloe.

"She is stable now, but we almost lost her." Christi sighed, hearing that her daughter was still alive. 

"Is there anything we can do to help? Christi asked.

"Not at this time. No, but we are going to send her to the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio because if she has one more seizure, it will kill her and there is nothing that we can do to stop it." The doctor said with seriousness. 

Nick's face went pale, he turned as white as a ghost hearing this. This scared him he couldn’t imagine going to dance everyday and not seeing Chloe.

"When will you be flying her over to the hospital in Ohio?"

"Tomorrow, at 1 p.m. You will be able to ride with her. Just make sure you are here on time."

Christi nodded choking back tears. "I'm going to go make a few phone calls; I will be back in a bit." Christi said looking at Nick. Nick nodded and told Christi to take her time. 

After Christi walked away Nick walked back into Chloe room. Now Chloe didn't look anything like herself now. She was pale and looked like she could barely keep her eyes open. Nick had never seen Chloe like this, to see her look so, broken and vulnerable, it completely broke his heart.

Christi had walked down to the cafeteria to grab her and Nick a bagel for breakfast since it was going on 7 a.m. While she was down in the cafeteria, Christi called Melissa, Kelly, Holly, Jill, Nick's mom and Abby. to explain what was going to happen tomorrow and if they wanted to come see Chloe one last time before they leave for Ohio. All of them responded with saying they would come visit her today.

 After Christi had gotten the bagels she walked back to the hospital room. When she walked in she saw Chloe had a smile on her face and was laughing, Christi was confused at her daughters actions then saw that Nick was sitting beside her telling her a funny story. Christi loved that Nick would always be there for Chloe when she needed someone. Now, what would happen when they leave for Cleveland? Christi was sure that Nick's mom wouldn't let him go, even though they were about to get off for a four day break after the school day ends today. Christi walked over to Nick and handed him his bagel he thanked her, and turned and turned back to Chloe. 

"You want a piece?" Nick asked her taking the bagel and splitting it in half. Chloe shook her head no. "Come on Chlo, you haven't eaten since last night, and I know you're hungry." He said holding half of the bagel out for her to take.

Chloe smiled, and then reached out to take the half of the bagel Nick was holding out to her. Chloe took a bite, and swallowed, the bagel was cinnamon, her favorite.

"Thanks Nick." Chloe said, getting Nick's attention from where he was looking out the door. When he turned around and looked at her, he had a look of confusion on his face.

"For what?" He asked, looking at her.

"For everything. You've been here with me since I got here, and you've made me feel better when I really don't feel good, by making me laugh or just talking to me." She said with a smile, for a minute when Chleo smiled Nick saw that she looked exactly like she normally would, but a second later it disappeared, when she remebered why she was in the hospital. Nick knew this was what she was thinking about.

"Chloe don't worry, you are going to go to this hospital in Ohio, they are going to do some test, you will have the surgery and you will be just fine." Nick said to her trying to calm her.

"You promise?" Chloe asked.

Nick held out his pinky finger to Chloe. Chloe held out her pinky and locked it with Nick's. Nick kissed his thumb and so did Chloe, indicating that Nick would keep his promise to Chloe.

Chloe smiled at the little gesture Nick had just done always calmed her. Her mom and herself always did this before Chloe would go on stage to perform.

After a few minutes of just talking Chloe heard footsteps outside her closed door. Soon though the door opened to reveal her mom walking in with Melissa, Maddie, and Mackenzie following her.

Maddie and Mackenzie ran up to Chloe and gave her a hug. Maddie pulled away first and then Mackenzie followed. "How are you doing?" Maddie asked, looking at Chloe.

"Pretty good. A little tired and sore, but I can deal with it." Chloe said trying to sound just like she normally would.

"We missed you at school today." Mackenzie said leaning over and giving Chloe a kiss on the cheek. Chloe always helped the third graders on Thursdays if they didn't understand their homework. Chloe would usually work with Mackenzie most of the time.

"I missed you too Kenz." Chloe said with a small smile on her face.

The girls talked for a little longer and then Melissa told them to say goodbye because they had to get ready for dance. Maddie and Mackenzie gave Chloe one last hug and told her to be safe then got up and left with Melissa.

After they left Christi told Nick and Chloe that she would be back, and that she was going to talk to the doctors. Chloe and Nick nodded and Christi shut the door behind her.

Since no one but Nick was in the room to visit her, Chloe laid back down and closed her eyes, hoping to get a few hours of sleep, after all she had been awake most of the previous night and now as far into the day they were.

About two hours later Chloe woke up to someone shaking her. She turned to the side where the person was shaking her, she opened her eyes and looked up to see who was shaking her. When she looked up she met Nick's green eyes staring at her. 

When Nick saw that Chloe was awake he said, "Hey Chlo, some people are here to see you."

Chloe turned the other way around in her bed and saw Abby, Jill, Kendall, Holly, Nia, Kelly, Paige, Brooke and Nick's mom standing there with Christi, Clara and Marc. Everyone besides Melissa, Maddie and Mackenzie, who had been here to visit her already.

All the girls ran up and hugged Chloe first, then the moms. While the girls talked, the moms, Abby and Marc talked to Christi about what was going to happen tomorrow. Soon Marc had to leave and get back to work he hugged Chloe tight before he left with Clara and did the same to Christi.

A while later the girls, moms and Abby left because they had to finish some things up on the dances for the competition. Nick's mom stayed and talked to Christi a little longer. Soon though, Christi and Nick's mom walked out of the room and shut the door. This left Nick and Chloe looking at each other confused.

Out in the hallway, Christi was going to ask Nick's mom if Nick could come to Ohio with her and Chloe. She knew sometimes during stressful situations Chloe needed someone besides Christi herself.

Over the next hour Christi and Nick's mom talked about the situation and the possibility if Nick going to Ohio with them. Finally a few minutes after Christi had asked about Nick going to Ohio with her and Chloe. Nick's mom agreed. This shocked Christi a little.

"Thank you so much." Christi said giving Nick's mom a hug.

"You welcome Christi, and I know Chloe needs him there with her. Those two help each other a lot in situations like this." His mom said with a smile, pulling away from the hug.

"Well I should probably be heading back to work." His mom said pulling on her coat. "I will bring him a suitcase of stuff he will need by here tomorrow. What time do you guys leave?" She asked.

"We leave at 1 p.m." Christi responded.

"That works out perfectly. I will see you tomorrow." She said, smiled and then walked off.

 The decision was made; Nick was coming with Chloe and Christi to Ohio.
