Aftercare and Chaos
23:01, 9 November 2025JAY‑JAY POV
The morning light slipped through the curtains, warm and golden, brushing across the sheets.
My body ached in that sweet, heavy way, but before I could even shift, Keifer's arm tightened around me.
"Don't move," he murmured, his voice still husky with sleep. "You'll hurt yourself."
I laughed softly, though my cheeks warmed. "You're acting like I'm fragile."
He lifted his head, his messy hair falling into his eyes, and gave me that look — the one that was equal parts protective and stubborn. "You are. At least to me."
I sighed, letting my head rest against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart.
His hand traced slow circles on my back, grounding me, soothing me.
"Are you sore?" he asked quietly, concerned, threading through his voice.
"A little," I admitted, my voice muffled against him.
Keifer shifted, pulling the blanket back over me as if to shield me from the morning air.
His movements were careful, deliberate, like every touch was meant to remind me I was safe.
"Stay here," he said softly, brushing a kiss against my temple. "I'll make breakfast."
I blinked at him, amused. "You? In the kitchen?"
He grinned, already heading toward the door. "Don't underestimate me, wifey. I've got skills."
I laughed, sinking deeper into the pillows, listening to the faint sounds of him moving around —
cupboards opening, pans clinking, the occasional muttered curse when something didn't go his way.
It was oddly comforting, hearing him fuss over something so simple.
A few minutes later, he returned, balancing a tray with toast, fruit, and a steaming cup of tea.
He set it down carefully, then sat beside me, his eyes searching mine.
"See? I told you I'd take care of everything," he said, pride in his voice.
I shook my head, smiling as I took the cup. "You're ridiculous. But... thank you."
He leaned back, watching me with that crooked smile. "Get used to it. For the next four weeks, you're not lifting a finger."
I rolled my eyes, but my heart swelled. "You're going to spoil me."
He brushed his thumb across my hand, his voice low and certain. "That's the point."
And as I sipped the tea, wrapped in his arms, I realized that this was the kind of chaos I didn't mind —
the quiet, gentle kind that came with being loved completely.
I set the cup back on the tray, leaning into him as the steam curled upward.
The tea was sweet, but not as sweet as the way he was looking at me —
like I was the only thing in the world worth his attention.
"You really thought of everything," I murmured, tracing lazy circles on his arm.
He tilted his head, pretending to think. "Not everything. I didn't plan for you to pout at me first thing in the morning."
I laughed, nudging him with my shoulder. "That's your punishment for deciding the first honeymoon spot without me."
His grin widened. "And your reward is me making breakfast. Fair trade, don't you think?"
I shook my head, but my lips curved anyway. "You're impossible."
He leaned closer, brushing his nose against mine. "And you're mine."
The silence that followed wasn't heavy — it was soft, filled with the sound of waves outside and the faint rustle of palm leaves against the window.
For the first time in weeks, there was no rush, no noise, no chaos. Just us.
Keifer pulled the blanket tighter around me, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Let's spend today doing nothing. Just you, me, and the ocean."
I smiled, resting my head against his chest. "That sounds perfect."
And in that quiet, I realized this was what forever felt like —
not grand gestures or chaos, but the simple, steady rhythm of love.
The day stretched ahead of us like a blank canvas, the kind that didn't need plans or schedules.
Just the sound of waves and the warmth of Keifer's arms.
He brushed a strand of hair from my face, his thumb lingering against my cheek. "You know, I could get used to this," he murmured.
I tilted my head, teasing. "Used to what? Spoiling me every second of the day?"
His grin widened. "Exactly. It's my new full‑time job."
I laughed, shaking my head, but the truth was, I didn't mind. Not one bit.
Later, we wandered outside, the sand warm beneath our feet.
Keifer insisted on carrying the tray with the leftover fruit, claiming it was "romantic beach breakfast."
I rolled my eyes, but when he spread the blanket out on the sand and handed me a slice of mango, I couldn't stop smiling.
The ocean shimmered, endless and calm, and for once, I didn't feel the weight of the world pressing down.
Just the steady rhythm of waves, the taste of sweet fruit, and Keifer's laughter mixing with mine.
He leaned back on his elbows, watching me with that same crooked smile. "See? Doing nothing is perfect."
I nudged him with my foot, grinning. "Fine. You win."
His eyes softened, and he reached for my hand. "I'll always win, Jay. Because I've got you."
And as the tide crept closer, brushing against the edge of the blanket, I realized he was right.
In this moment, with the ocean as our witness, we had already won.
Keifer stretched out on the sand, eyes closed, looking far too relaxed.
That smug grin lingered even in sleep, and I knew I couldn't let him get away with it.
I crept closer, scooping a handful of cool seawater into my palms.
With a wicked grin, I let it splash across his chest.
He jolted upright, sputtering. "Jay!"
I doubled over laughing, clutching my stomach. "Consider it revenge for deciding our honeymoon spot without me."
His eyes narrowed, but the crooked smile betrayed him. "Oh, you're in trouble now."
Before I could run, he lunged, scooping me up effortlessly. "Keifer, put me down!" I squealed, kicking my legs.
"Nope," he said, carrying me straight toward the waves.
"Don't you dare!" I warned, but he was already wading in, the water swirling around his ankles.
With a dramatic laugh, he dropped us both into the surf, the splash echoing across the empty beach.
I came up gasping, hair plastered to my face, while he grinned like a maniac.
"You're ridiculous!" I shouted, splashing him back.
He retaliated instantly, sending a wave of water my way.
Soon we were both laughing, soaked, and breathless, the ocean turning into our playground.
Finally, he pulled me close, dripping and smiling. "See? Mischief or not, I'll always win."
I rolled my eyes, but my heart fluttered anyway. "Fine. You win... this time."
