A summer of inconvenience

This takes place several months after the previous chapter.

Agasa Residence, 6:00 am..

Haibara got woken up by the alarm she had set on her clock. She got up and stopped it then laid back down again with a grunt.

Today, Doctor Agasa was going to take the kids to the beach and they needed to wake up early to pack their stuff and get ready.

She didn't want to go but Conan insisted on coming since she hasn't been out of the house for a week. She reluctantly agreed but now she wished she didn't, it's not really like she had a choice, he was still going to convince her in any other way.

After 5 mins of thinking, she got up and headed to the washroom, Conan slept in his own house while she slept at Doctor Agasa because the kids were coming to his house really early so Haibara and Conan didn't risk the chance to get caught by them.

Haibara finished brushing her teeth and went to her room, she yawned and started to get ready, she changed her clothes into a swimsuit. She didn't wear a bikini, she wore a bathing suit that covers her stomach and body enough but not her legs or arms.

She then wore baggy shorts with a baggy shirt and then she grabbed her bag and started packing her stuff.

Meanwhile Conan was now wearing his swimming shorts and a red shirt with it, he also started packing and then he quickly headed out to go to Doctor Agasa's house.

He rang the bell, Doctor Agasa opened the door and let him in. "Good morning Shinichi, did you finish packing up?" He asked. "Yes Hakase, where's Haibara?" Conan asked. "She's still in her room, I don't know if she's awake." He said and Conan walked towards the stairs. 'If she's still in bed and refuses to go I'll drag her out.' he thought and knocked on her bedroom door. "Come in." He heard her say and opened the door.

"Oh Ku-Shinichi..what are you doing here, did you already finish packing up?" She asks, she still has trouble calling him by his first name but she was getting better at it.

"Good, you're awake, for a moment I thought you bailed out on me." He said chuckling. "I thought about it but then I felt bad for you." She said teasing him. He just gave her daggers and she turned around, continuing to pack her stuff.

"Did you pack sunscreen?" She asked still packing her stuff. "Oh shoot no." He said face palming. "Figured, what about your prescribed medicine so you don't get dizzy swimming." She said. "I forgot that too.." he said nervously. "Honestly, how did you manage to survive before you met me." She said sighing.

"Come onn, don't make it a big deal." He said hugging her from behind. "Let go of me, your body heat is too much in the beginning of summer." She said in a dangerous tone making him let go of her almost immediately.

"Okay..I'll wait for you downstairs." He said nervously and backed away till he reached her door.

The door bell rang and Doctor Agasa opened the door revealing the 3 semi teenagers. "Good morning Hakase!" Mitsuhiko said smiling. "Good morning, did you guys pack all the important stuff?" Doctor Agasa asked closing the door and turning towards them. "Yess and we're so excited." Genta said and sat on the living couch.

Conan greeted them as he sat down with a coffee in his hand. Haibara came downstairs holding her bag and there was a white hat on her head. "Okay guys I'm ready, let's head off so we're not late." She said approaching them. "Hii Ai-chan, yay let's go." Ayumi said and they all went out of the house to the car that Doctor Agasa rented.

They loaded all the bags in the car and went inside.

Main street, 8:12 am..

They were stuck in traffic since an accident up ahead occured, holding all the vehicles barely moving.

"Why is there so many traffic, we even left early in hopes to find the road clear." Genta complained. "We can't help it, there has been an accident up ahead, do you not see the police lights." Haibara said yawning. "It's gonna take us forever to get there now." Mitsuhiko says disappointed.

"It's okay guys we'll eventually reach there and have fun, don't let your excitement go away before the trip even starts." Doctor Agasa said trying to cheer them up. "Hakase can you pass me a water bottle, I forgot to pack one in my bag." Haibara says. "Oh I'm sorry Ai-kun, but all the water bottles are back in the trunk, you'll have to wait till we get there." Doctor Agasa says.

"Oh..I guess." 'but my throat is really dry.' Haibara thought and Conan noticed her uncomfortable face.

After an hour they finally reached the beach and they all got out to breathe some fresh air. Haibara quickly went to the trunk and opened it to drink some water.

"Okay guys, come and put on sunscreen before you go in the water." Haibara says now in her swimsuit along with everyone else. Doctor Agasa was setting up a chair and laid back on it, the big umbrella providing him some shade away from the sun.

The kids walked towards Haibara and applied sunscreen on their faces and arms and some down their neck. They then walked away and Haibara noticed someone was missing. Conan was still preparing some stuff, like putting the cooler down.

"Come here you corpse-magnet." She called for him and he turns to look at her with a smug look. "Yes my ice queen." He answered walking towards her. "Here, put sunscreen on to your face and around the upper part of your body." She said squeezing some on his hand, he took some and started rubbing it on his face, he clearly didn't rub very well since some places had a lot and some didn't have at all.

"You idiot, you don't know how to do anything, stop let me help you." She said stopping him. He just did what she ordered and stood still while she begun rubbing his face softly, stretching out the cream all over his face then down his neck, on to his chest, went up to his arms and finally some on his stomach, she tried to avoid his abs a little and quickly went up to his chest again, she blushed a little but quickly masked it with a neutral face.

On the other hand, Conan was a red tomato. Haibara must have noticed because she looked at him with confusion. "I applied sunscreen for you to not get burned and you're already red as a tomato." She glared at him and sighed. He looked away and felt embarrassed. "I'm going to go swim now." He said changing the subject. She just nodded and started applying sunscreen on her face.

After an hour of swimming, Haibara went and laid on a mat she had set up to rest, she closed her eyes and felt a soft wind, it wasn't a lot since the summer was starting, it was just the remains of the spring air.

The others were still swimming and playing around. Haibara started to feel a headache forming and she furrowed her brows, opening her eyes and sat up. She pinched the nose of her bridge to make the headache go away but it stayed, she was now breathing a little heavier.

'I'll just take a walk to forget about this heat and my headache.' she thought and got up. As soon as she did, she felt very nauseous and lightheaded but she brushed it off and walked feeling the soft sand on her feet as she walked.

A few mins later, all of them got out of the water and headed towards were they were sitting. Haibara also just came back from her walk, she was still feeling her head throbbing in pain and becoming worse. She tried to hide it though but her breaths were becoming unsteady.

"Oh Ai-chan I was wondering where you are, do you wanna continue playing with us." Ayumi said, Conan turned to look at Haibara and felt that something was wrong. "Oi, are you okay?" He asked walking towards her. "Yes I'm fine I'm just..a little tired." She answered but he knew better than that.

"You don't look fine..by the way did you eat anything today?" He asked becoming worried, she didn't. She just woke up and packed her bag, she didn't even drink coffee. But Haibara couldn't answer anymore, she felt as if her head was a thousand pounds and then suddenly everything went black as she felt herself falling then someone catching her.

Haruka beach, 11:58 am..

"Did you bring the cold water bottle?"

"Yes here, and also sandwiches."

"Good, now let's wait for her to wake up, when she does, give her some space."

She heard people talking around her, all familiar voices, she slowly begun to open her eyes, 3 eyes looked back at her.

"Haibara..are you okay?" She heard Conan ask. "Here, drink some water." He said and offered her a bottle, she took it from him and drank some. 'what happened, oh yea I was having a massive headache and then..I fell and someone caught me, was it shinichi?' she was thinking to herself.

"Eat." She heard Conan say, bringing her out of her thoughts, she saw him holding a sandwich. She slowly took it from him, and took a bite. "I'm glad you're well Haibara." Mitsuhiko said smiling. "We were all worried Ai-kun." Doctor Agasa said turning to Shinichi, he was probably the most worried out of all of them.

"You fainted from the blazing hot sun and from lack of food in your stomach." Conan said looking at her seriously after Mitsuhiko left to talk to Genta and Ayumi. "How many times have I told you to not leave yourself without food." He said and she noticed a small worried look that appeared but he quickly replaced it with a serious one again.

"I forgot, we had to leave early and pack, I just didn't want to forget anything before I went out and I.." "You forgot the most important thing which was you, right?" He said, he wasn't really mad at her, he was just worried, worried that something worse could've happened if she didn't take care of herself.

She finished her sandwich and looked at him, his eyes softened at her face and he cupped her cheeks. "Honestly, how did you manage to survive before you met me." He said, repeating her words from earlier this morning, the both smiled at each other before chuckling.

Conan removed his hands from her face and got up from next to her, he doesn't want to make the kids suspicious after all. "Alright all of you, come here and eat." Doctor Agasa called them and Genta came quickly and sat down as Doctor Agasa handed everyone their food.

Main street, 5:49 pm..

They were on their way back to their house after they had fun at the beach, the road wasn't full of vehicles anymore since the accident got taken care of. All of the kids were asleep except for Haibara and Conan, Haibara was extremely tired and so was Conan but she couldn't fall asleep or else she'd have to lean her head on his shoulder, then the kids would know they're dating.

She yawned for the 100th time and Conan offered her his shoulder for the 200th time. "No, stop they'll for sure know if they see us like this when they wake up." She said declining. "They're literally sleeping like that together and they're not dating, so how does that make them think we are??" He said, he did have a point and Haibara contemplated before she finally gave in, she was desperate for sleep after all and there was still an hour for them to reach their home.

She leaned her head on his shoulder and he put his arm around her, she got closer to his touch and breathed through his scent. He smelt of old books and a little fresh smell from the shower he took at the beach.

He also closed his eyes and started to drift off to sleep, she did too and they slept like that, and the kids couldn't judge them because they were also half cuddling eachother.
