4 - Accident

Shinobu looked at her phone for the nth time that night, although it was technically already morning at this point

It was 2:04 am. She could not sleep. Shinobu wouldn't say it was fully because of the encounter with Giyu earlier in the week, but it definitely was one of the reasons, whether she admits it or not

It just had been a while since they last acted that casually. Zero hostility, zero conflict. Shinobu could not recall the last time that was the case

And, what was worse for Shinobu, she didn't hate it. She still, somewhat, enjoyed Giyu's company, which was terrifying for her

Shinobu looked at her ceiling, bored. She had already tried reading a book or watching videos, yet she still could not sleep

Shinobu thinks of an idea. She mischievously smiles. Giyu's disturbing her sleep, so she'll disturb his too

It was the perfect plan, she thought, except she didn't know what to do.

Should she drunk text for a few minutes? Maybe a prank call would do

She stretched her hands towards the ceiling, holding her phone. She was looking at Giyu's contact

It was filled with cold exchanges that comprised of the two just asking on behalf of the group, no actual interaction except for when Shinobu fought him

Even then, the exchanges wouldn't last long as Giyu would eventually just leave her on read, which Shinobu hated

After a bit of thinking, Shinobu came to a verdict. The obvious one. That this was stupid

I mean, why would she disturb Giyu this late? Shinobu would look like a crazy ex or something

She brought her arms down and shifted her position to look towards the side again

That was until—

Ring...

What the hell?

She looked at her phone in horror. Shinobu just accidentally dialled Giyu. At 2 am. And, before a second ring could even happen, Giyu answered

She screamed at herself internally. She was about to hang up when she heard—

"Hello? Shinobu? Are you okay?" Giyu said, clearly worried even if it didn't seem like it. Shinobu knew that tone. Giyu was always so worried about her before

Seeing Giyu with this much worry for her, it felt—weird. It felt familiar. Too familiar

Giyu was her one call away. The person who would always answer her call. The person who supported her when it felt like the world was crumbling.

Shinobu shook off her thoughts

"Worried much?" Shinobu asked, adding sass to her tone

"Well, if you called me that either means there's an emergency or the world has flipped upside down" Giyu joked and Shinobu rolled her eyes, dismissing the joke without realizing a small smirk had formed on her face

"If no emergency, then why did you call?" Giyu asked with a yawn. "Why were you even able to answer?" Shinobu asked back, making Giyu chuckle

"I was just playing something. Now answer my question"

"It was an accident" Shinobu reasoned, making Giyu chuckle "I doubt that"

Giyu plopped onto his bed with his phone on hand. His dimly lit room could not hide the small smile on his face. A smile so subtle, yet so telling

"Then don't believe me!" Shinobu huffed

"Alright, it was an accident" Giyu surrendered, holding an arm up even though Shinobu wouldn't even be able to see his gesture

"You can't sleep?" Giyu asked, and Shinobu hated it. Shinobu hated knowing that maybe Giyu still has her memorized.

"You could say that" Shinobu responded "I have nothing to do, might as well talk to you, I guess" Giyu looked at his phone in surprise

"You? Willing to talk to me?" Giyu asked in disbelief. He doesn't know the last Shinobu was willingly chose to talk to him

"Can you stop questioning me? Shinobu said, raising her tone a little bit "Sorry, madam" Giyu teased

"Giyu, why did you never fight me?" Shinobu blurted out. Giyu raised an eyebrow "I don't have the energy to fight y—"

"No—" Shinobu cut him off "I mean when we were together" Giyu raised an eyebrow again, clearly even more confused on what is happening

"Don't question it. I'm just sleepy" Giyu contemplated in answering. It felt like he may be taking advantage of her being sleepy and not thinking straight

"I was very unreasonable, yet you never said anything" Shinobu added with a yawn

"I'm not sure" Giyu decided to answer "I guess I was scared" Giyu sighed, but before continuing further, he heard faint snores

He chuckled, "Sweet dreams, Shinobu"
