Chapter 54: Everything Comes to an End

(Maya's POV )

The funeral for Geoff was one of the hardest things I have ever been through. Liam couldn't stop crying and didn't even make it through his speech. As I drove back to Karen's house I didn't know how to feel or what to think. Tears streaming down my face and my thoughts flying through my mind millions by the second.

(Flashback)

"Maybe I should stay here for a month and you and Aspen head back home," Liam told me. "Wait...what?!" I cried. "My family needs me," Liam informed me. "Yeah, well your wife and daughter aka your family needs you too!" I spat. Liam just stared at me.  "Look, I know what you are going through when my aunt was killed all of my family stuck together for weeks, but Liam you can just send your family away," I explained to him. He didn't say a word just walked over to his mom and sisters.

(End of flashback)

When I pulled up to the house I parked the car and went to get my bags. Harry was going to let Aspen and I stay with him for a couple of days before we went back home. "Mommy!" Aspen cheered as I walked through the front door. I could cry but I had to stay strong for my daughter. "Where is Sarah?" I asked Aspen. "In there," she pointed to the bathroom door. "Okay, did you have fun with her?" I asked her as I picked her up. "Yeah," she yawned. "Good, looks like you are ready for a nap," I laughed.

After paying the babysitter I put Aspen down for her nap and packed up our stuff. It didn't feel right leaving Liam during this time of grief but this is what he wanted I have no clue why but I had to give him what he wanted.

Harry: All ready to go?

Maya: Yeah just about...have you talked to him?

Harry: Not really. He's keeping his distance,  don't worry Maya all of this will blow over.

Maya: I sure hope so.

(Liam’s POV)

"Where is Maya?" Ruth asked me. "I uh...," I mumbled. "You what?" She asked me. "I told her to go back home with Aspen and I'm going to stay here for a month to help you guys out. I thought she would understand but she freaked out about me shipping off my family," I explained to Ruth. "Really? Are you serious?!" She practically yelled. Everyone looked at us. "Liam, I love you but are you out of your mind?" She whispered.

I was confused. I thought she would want me to stay here and help them get all of my dad's stuff packed up and squared away. "It's great you want to stay and help us, but you can't just ship off your wife and daughter!" She snapped. "Maya has a job and Aspen has preschool and dance classes," I told her. "Yes, I'm aware but, Liam, Maya was very close to dad she is grieving just like the rest of us, do you honestly think she wants her husband pushing her away right now?" She asked me.

(Maya's POV )

I set our bags down in a spare bedroom at Harry's house. I couldn't believe this was actually happening. "Do you like it?" Harry came in and asked me. "Yeah, it's great," I smiled.  "I'll go make Aspen something for lunch," Harry offered. Before I could say anything he had left the room.

Harry felt obligated to help Aspen and I since we had helped him through his cancer treatment, but I never expected him to.  I set down on the bed and stared at my dark phone screen.  Part of me was hoping Liam would text or call me telling me to stay, but the other part knew he wasn't going too.

Makayla: Maya!

Maya: Yes?

Makayla: Have you seen the news?

Maya: Kay... I'm in the UK.

Makayla: Right...well your house was set on fire. Everything is gone.

Maya: No...no....

Makayla: everything that wasn't in the safe that is and some other things were saved.

Maya: Why didn't anyone call me?!

Makayla: They just identified it was your house. I'm sure you will get a call soon that or Liam got the call. Aren't you with him?

Maya: He is helping Karen with something. Aspen was getting rowdy so I took her back to the house.

I couldn't believe this. I didn't have a place to return too. I couldn't take Aspen back home, where would we go? Do I tell Liam? Or did he get the call and already knows?

(Liam's POV )

"Yes...of course...I'll tell her...thank you so much," I said as I hung up the phone. Our house was set on fire. Some stuff was saves but not much. I couldn't believe it. Who would do this? Why would someone do this? 

" Someone set our house on fire and it burnt to the ground," I told my mum. "Are you sure it was your house?" She asked in disbelief. "Yeah the fire department just confirmed the address with me. We are homeless and I already messed things up with Maya today, she can't handle anymore stress," I sigh. "What do you mean?" She questioned me. I explain what I told Maya earlier and by the look on my mother's face you could tell how disappointed in me she was.

"Liam, I raised you better than that. Aspen and Maya, that is your family and it seems like they need you just a little bit more right now," she told me. "I don't think Maya will talk to me," I sighed. "I'm sure she will, she loves you, it was just a fight," my mother said and then walked over to Nicola.

Yeah just a fight to prove how dumb I am. I headed out to the parking lot and got in my car. Luckily Maya advised getting a rental car as well just in case we had to be in two places at the same time. I had no clue where to go to find my family, but I knew where to start.
