Letters
07:49, 21 August 2017Hi. I'm trying to make up for my lack of posting in the past so here is the next chapter. I hope you'll find that this chapter is a little more on track.
Also, have any of you read Lord of Shadows? I just finished it and it was AMAZING although it killed me. Leave comments if you have!
LilyLily awoke in her bedroom at Potter manor. At first she was confused on how she had gotten there, but then she remembered everything. Images of the bludger, Snape, and blood crossed her mind.
The last thing Lily had remembered before blacking out was Potter's voice.
Lily sat up in bed, but groaned with pain and laid down. As if on cue, Mary came running into the room.
"Lily! Lily! Are you okay? Are you hurting?" she asked frantically.
"I'm fine," Lily assured her. "Just a little sore."
"Oh Lily," Mary said as she sat on the edge of the bed. "I was so afraid. We all were. Mar had to calm me down. I was so nervous. Sirius shut up for practically the first time ever, James was crying and..."
"Hold on," Lily interrupted. "James cried?"
She didn't know why she cared so much about this. Maybe it was the fact that she never pictured cool and confident James Potter crying. She got annoyed with herself for even caring about it.
"Yeah, James was really rattled. He was the one that carried you in. He didn't talk to anyone until he was sure you were okay. Now, he's back to normal, though. He hexed Peter's bowl of cereal to sprout legs and do backflips. It was quite funny."
Mary and Lily continued to talk for a few more minutes. Mary explained that a letter was sent to Lily's parents informing them that she would stay with the Potters another two weeks until she recovered. Eventually, they heard a few sets of footsteps coming up the steps. Before she knew it, Lily's room was full of curious teenagers, all wanting her account of what had happened.
She explained that she had panicked at the sight of the bludger and apparated to the playground by her house. She explained how she had splinched herself, but panicked and apparated back, causing the wounds to open more. She left out the part about Snape, though.
When she was done, they all seemed satisfied except for Remus. She knew that he knew that something was missing from the story. He knew her as a person, so he understood that she would never have apparated back by choice. When everyone decided to let her rest, Remus asked if he could stay behind for a minute. Lily nodded and everyone left. She caught James' eye as he looked back at them before slowly exiting the room.
"Lily, what aren't you telling us?" Remus demanded. "I know you're not stupid enough to apparate again after having been splinched."
Lily looked at her friend and sighed. She knew there was no way around it.
"Just keep it between us, okay?"
When he nodded, she explained her encounter with Snape and his friends. She explained her panic and fear, which caused her to dissaparate.
"I was startled and scared. I don't trust any of those boys. I didn't say anything to the others because I knew that they wouldn't take it easy."
"Oh no, we won't."
Lily looked to where the voice had come from. Potter and Black were standing in the doorway with their arms crossed.
"You eavesdropped?" Lily asked outraged.
James ignored this. "Snivellus did this to you? We'll get him for it. Won't we Padfoot?"
"No, it was my fault," Lily said. "He didn't hurt me. I panicked."
"So, now you're defending him?" James asked.
"No! I'm not! Well, maybe I am. He was just trying to help me. It's me who doesn't trust him. And now, look at you practically ready to attack him!" Lily screamed, heat rising to her face. "This is why I didn't tell you, James. You take everything to the next level. Leave Snape alone and let me deal with it."
Lily was breathing heavy. James looked startled, but he held his ground. Before he could speak, though, Lily cut him off.
"Just get out," Lily said through gritted teeth.
James turned to leave the room, but paused for a moment. "I won't touch him. For you."
He turned and left the room with Remus and Sirius at his heels.
Two weeks later
LilyIt has been two weeks since Lily's injury. She had had a relatively good time with her friends, considering that she couldn't walk. Mrs Potter had transfigured an old umbrella into a cane for her after a few days of bed rest.
Lily spent most days gossiping with Mar and Mary, reading with Remus, playing games with Peter, and even joking with Sirius.
Ever since Sirius had gotten the attention off of her after the incident with Julie, Lily had changed her feelings towards him. She found him to be more funny than annoying nowadays. She also began to see of him as a close friend. Maybe even a brother, in a way, once she got to really know him.
Lily was avoiding James at every possible moment, but it became hard after a while since they were in the same house with the same people. And she couldn't really run from the room based on her health situation.
One bright morning, Lily was staring out of her bedroom window when she saw an owl approaching with letters in its beak. At first, she thought nothing of it until she realized that it was approaching her window. The bird was coming into view and she could see the familiar envelopes tied to its leg. Hogwarts letters.
This was the moment of truth, the moment she would find out if her hard work had paid off. She yanked her window open and untied the letters from the owl's leg. It turned and flew away after Lily dropped a coin into its pouch on the other leg. Lily flicked through the letters. Pettigrew, Black, Lupin...Evans.
Lily tore open her letter and, for a second, felt as if she couldn't breathe. Then she saw it, the golden badge with the letters HG on the front. She had done it. Lily squealed with joy and reached for her cane. She hobbled down the hallway and down the steps.
"Marlene!" Lily yelled.
"Lily! Is everything okay?" Marlene asked coming out of the living room.
"Everything is great!" Lily replied with a smile, holding up her badge.
"Oh Lily, I knew it!" Marlene squealed. She hugged Lily, but made sure to avoid where Lily had been injured. Lily slowly followed Mar into the living room where everyone else was sitting.
"Guess what guys?" Lily asked.
"What Limping-Lily?" Sirius asked playfully. She had gained the nickname ever since she had gotten the cane.
"Hogwarts letters are in," she said with a smile. She help up her badge and everyone whooped and cheered.
"Knew you had it in you."
"Congrats."
"I knew it all along."
Lily proceeded to hand out the letters to each teen. The last letter belonged to Potter. She handed it to him.
"Thanks Lily-Flower," he said. She glared at him.
"What, no nickname?" he asked innocently.
Lily had already decided Potter was back on her nerves. For the two weeks she'd been here, he continued to play pranks and tried to gain her friendship again. It wasn't working.
Okay, maybe a little.
WHAT? No, no, no. Most definitely not.
Lily turned from him to hide the fact that her cheeks were turning a bright red. She had liked the nickname... only a little.
Lily walked over to Remus who was opening his letter, praying that a golden badge would fall out. She shook the envelope and she prayed harder. However, to her dismay, none did. Remus looked at her and shrugged, but Lily became terrified. Who would be Head Boy? What if it was Snape?ย The idea of them having to work together constantly frightened her. Anyone had to be better than him.
"MERLIN, PRONGS!" Sirius shouted, a look of shock on his face.
Lily looked over to see James with a look of shock on his own face as well.
James looked at Lily and held up a golden badge with HB embedded on the front.
"Well," he started. "This was unexpected."
Lily wanted to scream, but she couldn't. All she managed to do was stare in shock at the boy that no one had ever predicted would be leading the school by her side.
